I love that Pikat said "improbable anime hair" instead of just "impossible" because it implies that, statistically speaking, there is someone out there who's got natural anime protagonist hair
tbf, the character on screen when she said that was yami from yugioh and there is a black cosplayer who was able to shape their fro into that hairstyle. when she said textured hair can come in a bigger variety of styles she wasnt kidding lol
Depends the genre. If it's a slice of life or romantic anime, it probably does. If it's a shonen or youngs catching monsters, expect the unexpectable lol
the fact that pikat is left-handed is somehow such a huge plot twist I did not see coming... The fact that the animated hand is also left, should have been the clue... But apparently not enough for me!
Hmmm... the distinctivly left hand being the hand that Ms pikat from yoobilytoobily should have hinted that this person is, in fact, left handed! But naw, that doesn't make sense? 😂
I struggle so much with drawing hair. Needing more practice aside, I just generally have a hard time visualizing and drawing. I'm slow to learn creative things, but I get there hehe. This hair is so beautiful I'm even more inspired. Thank you.
I just have trouble with hair, I can pick up anatomy really quickly, but hair.. no matter how much I try, I simply can not grasp it.. it's driving me nuts, I tell ya!
Im sure you mentioned it in other videos, but when shading/adding details, always remember: determine the big primary shape (for hair: which half is in shadows). Don't let the secondary shapes obscure the primary shape (shade the individual, big strands). Repeat for tertiary shapes (individual strands/texture /locks within a bigger strand) I think proko did a good explanation on that principle
As someone working on learning to draw at almost 30. Thank you so much for your videos ♥ You break things down into super simple steps and you are doing the art community a HUGE service.
Even though I am a beginner artist, I still have trouble with the hair size (I make it too small). I also have trouble making hair have the curves but describing them as ribbons is great advice and I'm gonna give that a try. Also can't wait to see the dragon tutorial.
Thank you for the diversity in these drawings. Definitely helps me as someone who makes a comic with all kinds of people. Also helps me in case I want to do a self portrait heh
Just wanted to say, being an artist who’s been leaning more on the cartoony side and is shifting more to anime/realism and you’ve quickly become my favorite artist TH-camr!
you know, about a week ago I've been trying to learn how to draw hair to improve my 3D modeling. And now a bunch of artist that I follow started making hair tutorials lol
YEAAAAA DRAGON TUTORIAL IN THE FUTUUUREEEE!! one way i go about it is trying to find a similar animal and using refs but it doesn't always work w/ suuuper fantasy-rooted creatures (i.e. "biblically accurate angel" lvls of intricate or bizarre)
Pikat, I cannot stress enough just how helpful your art has been for me as an intermediate. Your insight is so invaluable, thank you for sharing what you do!
Your guides are so helpful! Ive been wanting to learn to draw for years, but Im so impatient. If I dont see near-immediate progress I decide its not for me and give up. And then I work on my fantasy novel and think how great it would to draw these characters I see in my head non stop, so I try again. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam. But this time Im sticking with it, been practicing a lil bit every day for a couple weeks now and Im seeing decent progress(who would have thought😅) Hair has proven to be a particularly large roadblock, its so frustrating. Between this video and the "You can learn anything" one hope has been restored and Im ready to try again. ❤❤❤ PS: I am so hype to see Monster Hunter fan art. My favorite game series hands down
I remember watching some of the streams and I can see you’re really good at writing as well. You summed it up really good and explained very well the whole thought process and the progress. I learned a lot just from this video, not only about hair but how to approach studies in general.
I’m a programmer and aspiring game developer. Ive always enjoyed drawing but I was never really that good until a couple years ago when I started putting in more effort to improve. I feel like ive made improvements in chunks, where i suddenly understand something and see a noticeable improvement. Ive been trying to improve my sketching confidence lately since i feel like i always spend ages on every sketch to get things to look right. Your videos have helped me by giving me a better idea of how to do studies and actively work on improving in certain areas :)
Dood you over here saving my life rn Trying to learn to draw at almost 30 after forever regretting I never picked it up as a kid and figured-why not now?
i really thanks your appreciate>< you know? i think i have been taking notes, ONLY NOTES for almost 3 or 4 hours now and in my country now is 1 am buuuut im happy cause it really help me!!! thanks pikat>< i think you really save me hahaha✨✨
I think my biggest problem is also shading. Cause usually when I look at the works of some of the artists you mentioned here, there's a huge jump between just placing the base shadows and the final look and I never know how to get there. Thanks for the video - it helped when you talked about shape design as well! I think your final result looks really awesome, regardless of the improbability of the hairstyle😂
i love all the different refs and textures you used! it shows that no matter what style you have, you CAN draw anything and anyone if you practice well! continue to push on, pikat!
One of my favorite videos so far (chibi was my other because that was what I was searching for originally). Two things: I love the outros you do with the subscribe button because they're quite playful and not the "smash that like and subscribe" that we hear too often :) -- Number two, yes dragons, please!!! Monster Hunter has a plethora of good content!
So as to how I understand it, you need to know how real life hair works in order to know how to stylize it well through design 🤔Like shading only using 2 values to get a sense of form, you don't need to draw a lot of hair strands to make it appear organic and or have a lot of detail.
Thank you for the video Pikat! I would love to see how you add the texture in the final touches part. I typically use a raked smudge brush on a low opacity with the darker value of the hair, but its pretty unruly lol
So I just wanna mention my experience with Xp-pen I bought an XP-PEN Artist 22E Pro which costs half as much what wacom would and its still holding up, the only thing now after like 4 years of using it (a lot) is that one of the two pens stopped workin which they send and the screen is scratched up a bit, which for how much I draw seems like a very nice cheaper big screen table
The art sensei of the woods once told me "hair in art is like flowing water or tall grass in the wind, it acts and flows like it, and of course, it is one thing tons of people avoid despite being a necessity"
I love that Pikat said "improbable anime hair" instead of just "impossible" because it implies that, statistically speaking, there is someone out there who's got natural anime protagonist hair
YES.
tbf, the character on screen when she said that was yami from yugioh and there is a black cosplayer who was able to shape their fro into that hairstyle.
when she said textured hair can come in a bigger variety of styles she wasnt kidding lol
I'm ngl my hair has looked very anime protagonist-y in the morning. The antennae are indeed possible, I say this from personal experience.
Miku has entered the chat
Depends the genre.
If it's a slice of life or romantic anime, it probably does.
If it's a shonen or youngs catching monsters, expect the unexpectable lol
Hair tutorial that includes textured hair you are the goat
She's the goat!! THE GOAT!!!
the fact that pikat is left-handed is somehow such a huge plot twist I did not see coming...
The fact that the animated hand is also left, should have been the clue... But apparently not enough for me!
You like me just never registered this before seeing the reality that changed our cognition
It was a big plot twist for me too
As a left handed person I'm disappointed that I didn't notice that earlier.
@@thatonepekokinniesame lol
Hmmm... the distinctivly left hand being the hand that Ms pikat from yoobilytoobily should have hinted that this person is, in fact, left handed! But naw, that doesn't make sense? 😂
I’ve been needing this tutorial so badly. I always oversimplify hair.
THE WAY YOUR HAIR DRAWING TURNED OUT IS JAW DROPPING
TIPS: Big, medium, small Principle dont just work on hair but also any design elements like clothing designs and etc
Also love your Vid❤❤❤
YAY! LEFT-HANDED ARTIST UNITE!!
theyre multiplying
Let's go!
yeaaaaah

I’m still not used to hair tuts/studies including textured hair LMAO you did an amazing job
New pikat video just dropped, today is a good day
Im sure you mentioned it in other videos, but when shading/adding details, always remember: determine the big primary shape (for hair: which half is in shadows). Don't let the secondary shapes obscure the primary shape (shade the individual, big strands). Repeat for tertiary shapes (individual strands/texture /locks within a bigger strand)
I think proko did a good explanation on that principle
11:03 that's all I wanted to hear, absolute happiness😊

Amazing work, watching you show your process as you're explaining it is very helpful

I hate drawing hair. This video was so helpful, can't wait to try it again. Thank you so much!
pikate video is good, therefore i am happy

You Are So Skilled I Hope One Day I Can Achieve The Skill Level You Have Practice Very Hard For And You Do A Really Good Job Keep Going ❤
I'll be back for this one at some point.
Love the artwork pikat! It looks super good!
Thank you for the video Pikat!
I would love to see how you add the texture in the final touches part. I typically use a raked smudge brush on a low opacity with the darker value of the hair, but its pretty unruly lol

Aka paint in black and white to study value before you paint in color. You can always color in overlay!
The art sensei of the woods once told me "hair in art is like flowing water or tall grass in the wind, it acts and flows like it, and of course, it is one thing tons of people avoid despite being a necessity"
Okay, i like that curly hair
