The concert (Sion Festival, 2011) begins with the Adagietto from Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. A man is approaching the end of his life, peacefully, full of memories and passions that time has managed to subdue, not without reluctance, into long notes of melancholic beauty. The harp accords evoke tranquil waters, drifting towards the end. Finally, the tired body lets go and the eyes close. Silence. Then the notes of Mozart’s last piano concerto, the twenty seventh, sound like the man’s soul waking up to golden light beams at the gates of paradise, where joy and harmony will never end.

Great. Amazingly great. I like Pires MJ. This is one of the greatest music I have ever listen. Japanese want Pires to return back to Japan. Yamaha is wonderful. I think, if so, all Japanese become happy to have Pires. I want to hear all Mozart piano concertos by Pires MJ.

This remarkable woman has the humility not to want to demand or expect that. Notice her clothes: she's not a narcissist or a prima donna. This is an interesting musical programming experiment with which she was obviously in agreement and in tune. One sublime Viennese piece prefacing, or partnering, another.

Mahler just taught me something use the harp 's basses with the doublebasses ! Wonderful Nagano ! I think his wife is a pianist too ! Why is the pianist onstage for movement cut out of Mahler Symphony 5 . Nagano is very specialand Pires is one of the few pianists truly alive in the way she is soit doesn't matter !

Clearly because of the intended effect of moving directly from the Mahler into the Mozart.

Perfeita e linda mulher !!!

It is the worst form of audacity, nay, obscenity & vulgarity to abruptly throw in an advert smack in the middle of a performance! Why can’t the advert be inserted between movements and not during?

Mahler is intensely boring ... REALLY! ... tell me I'm wrong! ... I saw a performance of one of his symphonies years ago and only woke up when the percussionist hit a giant gong that threw him halfway across the stage! I can't imagine a more painful musical experience than ever having to listen to a Mahler symphony again ... I am here only for Pires!

Is that love or saccharine sentimentality...?
Seems to me that being in love would be no more or less than any little tune from Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalene.
