I am an aerodynamicist for a formula SAE team. The scoops are most likely not doing anything they are more like skids. Try doing a skid on each side to see what that does and if you are getting the same result then they aren’t doing anything. I also recommend you can make it one scoop instead of 2 because the second one is being blocked by the first one. But in the end I think it can be a bit of the track gripping up and being able to rely on the car rolling and using the scoops as a skid.
Agreed, I think some kind of extractor on the back would be more effective.
At this scale slapping on a 7” wing from a 1/10 scale e buggy with a gurney flap will be more effective then anything under the car.
They do lower the CG height a bit which could also be advantageous. If acting as a skid helps that means a stiffer right front spring would give the same benefit without costing overall grip like a skid plate does.
I was thinkin like @jman145 im no expert at all but was thinkin if ya made a manifold fir the front 2 and ran it out the back window where the opening is that would give ya down force right? Be more air hitting the spoiler but idk about the turbulence it might cause at the deck lid just ole hillbilly with my redneckgineerin hat on
@@jman145 does the theory i have hold any water?
Doesn't that just push the air to the underside of the body? That would counteract any advantage if so.
That will make zero downforce.😂
I could be totally wrong, but having those direct upwards air into the body, at some point will exacerbate the classic parachute phenomenon. Atleast that's the way i understand it.
Now that's easily solvable through multiple methods, but i think it's something to think about for the speedrunning applications. Typically they want to decrease positive under body air pressure, not increase it.
I think an air gap and it not being totally being solid would help. The air has to escape some how.
I'm left with the sneaking suspicion that the speed increase around the track is more of a result of the front right scoop acting as a "training wheel" and limiting body roll and allowing the car to carry more speed through the corners.
Definitely a science 🧬 project, I’m still trying to figure out how to keep my Mojave Grom on the ground pass 65mph 😂 good video 👍
If any mod to the stock model was to be done I would mod the front of the body where the air intake is by cutting some out and putting some outerwear filter fabric in place by some glue to allow some air flow into the body to cool down the motor. Those scoops are awesome! Maybe a bit smaller to allow for suspension travel. Very cool!
Keep the bumper and vents/holes in the body right over the wheels!
The lap time gains are most likely coming from changes in weight bias, the car either likes the lower over all center of gravity or the slight increase in nose weight.
Soften up that right front spring
Glad you move to the driver stand i was getting dizzy 😅 how did you do so many laps spinning round and round😮
You should add a good sized lip on to the front bumper protector. It may help you stick the turns with some from down force!!!! Would be cool to see if it helps
That is a cool track-Vac!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 i think you will get 4-4.5 laps with more wheel time.
Should use fans sucking up and make a skirt around the fan to get the most suction. Real electric full size car does this and it’s the fastest / most grip
I never knew you was a thinkin man joe? Nice job feller!!!
New Challenge: Two drivers stand in the center. Most laps without falling down or blowing chunks wins.
Definitely pushing the boundaries 😊
It would seem like the air needs somewhere to excape. I would like to see it with air gap near the top of that.
Your tire will 100% be the biggest determining factor in better lap times. (From a tuning standpoint.)
Tires are everything in racing.
Also, the rear scoops (the ones directly behind the first scoops) would literally do nothing.
Traxxas XO-1 and Arrma Limtiless and its descendants have proven the only currently working solution, for closer fender aerodynamics, on the market, is a full floor pan aerodynamically formed chassis with chin spoiler and diffuser.
For some reason, Losi has been trying to carve new niches and doing stuff in ways that don't really work. Losi made its name by playing along side competitors but doing what they did, albeit with their own flare, often better. In the last 10 years or so, Losi has been just weird. Losi could have been huge in the 1/7 on-road space, if their "6ix" was the "7even". They could do it now using their "8ight" buggy or truggy for parts and using a new chassis and a few bits and bobs.
You gotta put that combo in the Mojave Grom. You ain't had fun with a Grom until you do. That thing is stupid fun. I don't even like mini scale and have a blast with mine since putting the Furitek combo in.
You need to channel those scoops up and back out thru the rear quarter windows that way you will get more downforce stiffer spring or smaller scoop may also be needed
I got some that are 5mm shorter. The debris in the body was more than expected. Maybe I can print some ducting for that?
Ooohhh what if I duct it with a big bad fan like a jet engine? 😂
@@ExocagedRC you are better off sealing the whole bottom off then open the center of tailgate area to let air out .
👍👍😃
You should try putting them on one side only and testing each side as well
Joe, there are no rules in internet speed racing. I bring a spare car for parts. Truex is on the block. He already gave us a right front axle. I want to run them both directions. Just a video and a pic. I would take the left sides off and see what it does on the track.
That's not how down force is created 😂😂
Maybe you could try some sort of fan powered downforce? Theres some unbelievable rocket of a hillclimb electric race car thats using fans to hold itself down to the road and it works well be cool to see it done in small scale.
This is just going to add weight and drag without downforce
If you came out and dove in carried more speed through the corner may even grip up better.
I think they need to be staggered a little bit. With one right behind the other, it doesn't get the chance to grab air
Hmmm. How could I fit both in the side spots if I did that?
@@ExocagedRCThey don't exactly need to drag on the track. Maybe start shorter in the front and drop in succession
If anything the air pushing up on the inside at a high speed will be bad. On your track you aren't going to hit a high enough speed to effect it.
Jeah, uhm.... My gut says, impossible they work. Debris in car also makes sence. You scoop it up from the tires! But told before (about my tuned 2wd on street/tarmac/racing) is use weight. Can't get the power down or turn as tight without it. Makes a world off difference. Have two exact same cars and tested it thoroughly...
You should try preheating the tires see if that helps at all
Make bumper more aerodynamic and add lexan to make underbody flat.
But the air being scooped in, has to get out too. If there is no flow, air will not go in and it will not work. You could try and make an air tunnel and blow some smoke on the car to see the air flow 🙂
You are probably just noticing a better weight balance. So try adding some weight down low for better lgc...just like with our crawlers 🙂
It releases into the body which is an open atmosphere release chamber.
@@ExocagedRC sounds awesome, when you say it 😀You could also add some front and back spoiler...and a flux capacitor, but be prepared to meet the future 😀
Thanks for your awesome content, I enjoy watching them 🙂
I still would like to see some sort of infield like some carpet or something
Saw a lot of 4 second passes for all the skepticism on here never know unless you try i think instead of scoops pointing forward try backwards to try and create a vacuum
I seen an exocaged rc bouncer on another channel. It looked like a vitivon x-maxx. I want one.
edit. never mind it's that rambouncer build
the track seems not complete, it needs the outer walls to be oval as well. You should make a drag run now for funny car
Blue bumper seems like a must 💙 💯👍
0:23 Are you serious………😂🤦♂️
How could you imagine this working…I don’t want to be unpleasant but come on…
The only effect you will have is BRAKING YOUR CAR by huge drag effect at high speed like a parachute…🤦♂️
I think you're on to something Exo, I really do!! I could tell the difference as you were piling up the laps!
I’ve never got such consistently fast laps.
@@ExocagedRC its from left weight add some lead .we use stick on wheel weights for real cars . you need weight as far left and as low without dragging as possible
Check out the body for a Arrma vendetta, i think the holes in the body create down force.
couldn't finish the video because i got motion sick lol.
so tell me how that downforce works when its just blowing the air underneath the body lifting it up. thats like trying to lift yourself off the ground but in reverse. i would imagine if anything this having the exact opposite of downforce.
Nope. The body is an open atmosphere release chamber. The the actual vacuum point is only about 5-7mm at the very bottom of the scoop. The airflow through the body releases any built up pressure.
@@ExocagedRC ok but its still capturing the air coming directly out of the scoops, meaning its lifting the car up. if anything the effect is zero/balanced out because you could argue the air is forcing the scoop down but that same exact force is also pushing the body up. so at best you made zero difference. your argument is like saying parachutes dont work because the air escapes.
You don't need scoop as if losi give the customers the option for Sway Bars....
😂loving all the latest video's.
I was asked by the with😊
At the end of the video's, you say we are the pick of the litter, wouldn't that make us, cat poop😂
LOL well I hadn't thought of that LOL
😮😂❤
🤦🏻♂️
litter as in a group of newborn animals. like a litter of puppies. we are the pick of the litter meaning we are the best.
@@dirtrider88😊❤
I wouldn't do that because it scoops up to much sand and dust and that will go into the chassis I covered the nerf bars to keep out dirt and dust 😮😎👍
Face them backwards and you will probably get the same results. Dought that they add down force.
Why does the website allow you to choose different currencies while you don't ship internationally?
Put fans in the ports
1:58 who told this guy those will create downforce. I think it’ll do the exact opposite
Rather than doing two, do one big one.
I would think those would not work very good for speed runs you would have to vent the body a lot that's going to throw away too much are inside the body I think at 100 plus miles an hour that's going to be a lot of are especially when you start getting up around 200 mph but I have been wrong before
Do you think the fusion mini would be a good motor/esc for these cars?
Those wont be banned, they did absolutely nothing.
The spinning sucks. Just stand on the side of the track.
They will not make downforce as all the bottom area is open the more air you move fast with the scoops is immediately replace with the surrounding air at normal pressure you need to ,ake a sealing ski raround the whole floor like the fi Tyrell’s back in the day its simple aerodynamics . The car is not traveling fast enough to make the deflected air mass have any affect , sorry bin it its all just bullshit
😂❤💯🏁
PJ1 TRACKBITE
To much motor for cars to race multiple
