      Agreed ... this year is Austin’s year and it’s quite obvious ... he effectively can shoot from either side and just proved It by mopping the mat with a national champ and Olympic hopeful ... Fix might give him some noise but will get trashed on his feet against Austin

    Since 2017, DeSanto has beaten Spencer Lee, Micic, Suriano, Gomez, Bravo-Young (twice), Lizak (twice), and now Gross. This kid’s belief in himself is off the charts. He is absolutely fearless.

    I think Gross made the mistake of letting DeSanto in on his legs thinking he could just out scramble him. DeSanto was obviously prepared for that. Can't wait to see the rematch in March and the adjustments these guys make.

      That's how gross wrestles but desantos finishes were just clean...and anytime they got in a scramble situation austin was smart and didnt keep scrambling just got to a stalemate position and waited...it was a very smart match

      They were big rivals in high school. Desanto beating Lee in the state finals as a senior to give Lee his only HS loss. You can credit Lee for helping Brands recruit DeSanto when he transferred from Drexel

      He just got done cutting to 57kg and wrestled some good guys not too long ago. He might be sucked up

    That third period was a chess match. For Gross not enough time, for DeSanto it must have seemed forever. Great match.
    The key for both beat them the last time you see them at Nationals. It's just as excited to watch Spencer Lee cheer for his teammate.
    I can't wait to see how Roman Bravo Young does against them. DeSanto overwhelmed him for 2 periods last year at NCAA. Once again 133 and 165 are looking to being the thoughest weight classes. ( No disrespect to the others. )

      133 is just RBY, Gross, and Desanto this year. It’ll be a tossup between who takes the top three spots but I think Desanto will pull through and win it all

      Cut YT your not actually serious right? He gave fix one of his closest matches of the season last year, he beat suriano in a dual meet, he beat SPENCER LEE in the state finals his senior year anyone that doesn’t think desanto is a championship contender is a complete fool

    People saying Gross looking tired but honestly this is how he always wrestles. Stands high in his stance, wants to turn your shots against you. Desanto was just ready for it and knew how to finish.

      Is it possible Desanto improved since last year? Guy is an animal, I'm sure his practice work ethic is the same as his matches.
      Maybe he improved so much he is at another level.
      I think that's possible.
      Maybe he was underrated at the two seed.

      I would not say he tried to pop Desanto's shoulder out. That is an olympic arm bar, and when it is done with power and force that is the perception it gives you . That was not an illegal arm bar. Gable used it at the olympics. No body is going to give you their arm to get pinned. You have to snatch it from your opponent who is probably grabbing his own singlet and like any other move that is forced it is not going to look pretty

      gabe duchesneau probably because gross is like 5’7 and cuts to 133 and 125. Dude is probably the tallest 133 out there and cuts so much weight. Probably not the best for the cardio

      Actually he doesn’t cut as much as desento for 33. Gross is legal to go 125.5 and desento is legal to 130.8 so he’s much closer to his body limit

I don't think he cared about the late turn attempt because he appreciates hard wrestling. I know it's early but I hope we get to see him against the Russians, Iranians, Cubans, and all other international competition

    I am not sure how a second stall on Iowa in period 3 was not called. That was stalling 100% for basically the entire period by Iowa.

      Andres Sandoval I have yet to hear anyone make a Gross excuse. Desanto is the real deal. Gross just lost his Hodge in this match.

      I'm a huge Desanto fan 🐐🐐 but I fully believe Gross was sucked up from his cut down to 57kg and had some great matches at Farrell. Desanto beats him 10 outta 10 times but cant help that Gross has been busy and it takes a toll on your body. Who knows how he would have been if he didnt wrestle at Farrell.

      joshua B enough with giving excuses to top guys, the better guy won that night, losing is a part of wrestling and gross lost fair and square. He’ll likely adapt wrestle a better match than that though.
