Desanto is the embodiment of Iowa wrestling. He’s an out of time Dan Gable era wrestler and no one wants to admit it.
DeSanto is EXACTLY what wrestling needs. More entertainers, more drama. Big reason why it gets eclipsed by other sports is that it's just not as entertaining if you don't wrestle yourself or have a history of it
depends on what you mean. people who tune in to watch him wrestle ARE what wrestling needs. people who tune in to see if he's going to apply kimuras, spit on mats, or generally act like a spaz should instead look into wwe. the health of the sport doesn't rely on the latter group, and any additional influx of ignorant, fly-by-night nimrods should probably not be encouraged.
Lizak called him out earlier daring him to take bottom. We saw who lost that. So everyone upset about the extra, maybe lizak should have kept his mouth shut
If that's true, Lizak probably shouldnt have done that. Especially after blowing it last year against Gilman.

XD Desanto is a LEGEND
DeSanto is "unstabled" it seems like, but that's what gives him an edge. Some guys are better at displaying it away from the cameras, but he's not able to do that. He's sort of the bad guy that you love as a teammate but hate as an opponent. But he does scare me. I would not be surprised if he did something unsportsmanlike again if he's having a bad match.

Austin Desanto will smack you in the face then look you in the eyes. That's why I like him, he's got more guts and courage than the average wrestler, even if he is the villain sometimes.
He's off center. That poor sportsmanship is the result of a disorder of some type. Don't talk it up.
i hate what he did at NCAAs last year but i'm all for this type of harmless behavior. I hated Gilman at first but he became one of my favorites as well.

The other penny of my two cents: Anyone wondering about DeSanto's sportsmanship need only look at his recent match versus Thornton. Normal handshake, no verbalizing.
As many have already pointed out, Lizak tweeted some pre-match taunting claims about DeSanto. So there's your context why Lizak passively tolerated DeSanto's screams and hand smack, a bitter pill he knew was coming when the ref blew the final whistle.

Dylan Wentz He did take it too far once the match was over. I think that last exhibition right before the whistle was because he felt Lizak’s arm come up and he thought he had a shot at near fall. But, yes, great win.
Solid win but Austin’s immaturity in big moments has to end soon. He’s a sophomore now and that immaturity also comes off as a classless individual.

Did Lizak impress you more this weekend? He rode DeSanto impressively. DeSanto didn't look like himself at moments in this tourney. I think he is attracting a lot of attention to himself and how to defend against him. It's going to be hard for him to finish top 3 any of these years if he keeps attracting a target on his back

It's only a matter of time before DeSanto seriously injures someone. He has no self-control. Of course, last year, he should have been DQd from NCAAs for attempting to break Micic's arm. In this match, at the 6:50 mark he jumps and leaves his feet to try and come down hard on Lizak's arm and leg.
