Ah, Otokojuku. One of my favorite obscure series....It's a shame it never got a good game...
Also about the whole Nationalism aspect, yeah it's straight-up satire. The anime censored that part by redesigning the teachers who wore WW2 gear in the manga, and toning down other aspects as well.
And as much as I love it, it's a series not made for everyone.

the worst part of the manga are the fakeout deaths honestly, they make me not care about what's happening cause as a not so wise jedi once said "noone's ever really gone"

Bless you for suffering through all this to educate us on the context of such an astoundingly terrible game. Neither we nor the game deserve such exhaustive research.

I keep meaning to ask, what's the "episode preview" music you use? It sounds so damn familiar.

It's from Neon Genesis Evangelion, an anime series. I keep expecting Misato, one of the characters in it, to speak over the music, as she does in the anime.

Ah yes, Sakigage Otokojuku! A Shonen Jump manga so obscure I only learned of it in DS import darling Jump Ultimate Stars! What a bizarre thing. For a moment, I almost expected it to take on a Riki-O twist.
Not sure if this has any bearing on anything, but the Cromartie High School comparison is pretty apt: Cromartie's Japanese title is "Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou". Whether that is meant to be a direct allusion or not, I'm not sure.

Yes skip this game and go straight to JUS! Bonus points for any info related to Monster Party.

I felt like I had seen it before! JUS was the only Japanese game I managed to buy when I was in Japan in 2007 because my father was so annoying we couldn't really spend any time in Akiba at all because he was as annoying as he could... Mother yelled at him for it later as I and bigbro had really looked forward to it. During our trip I managed to get:
      2 Digimon cd albums
1 Megumi Hayashibara single (Didn't know it was a single at the time, wish I had gotten an album)
1 Fate/Stay Night poster and 1 Idolm@ster poster that came as freebies when one bought albums
1 American copy of Harvest Moon DS (my only game in that series)
      2 T-shirts
      Many melon pan
And of course the aforementioned JUS
(Bonus: 1 traumatized mother after she went into a figure H-store (with a huge 18+ sign) on her own despite me warning her)

This game covers the best part of the manga but it's total crap.
The manga started as a comedy and then morphed into tournament fighting but the first two tournaments aren't really anything special. The third tournament and also longest arc is the Tenchou Gorin Daibukai in which all the 16 fighters from the previous two arcs battle against other teams of 16 fighters, and I think it's when the series found its best style. It's all fight after fight, but the techniques used by the enemies get stranger and more fun to see than up to that point in the story, some of them even being humorous just by virtue of their oddness.
So while the first two tournament arcs are something more generic, the third one which this game is about is a lot more interesting.
It's a shame that as far as I know the only game where the Tenchou Gorin Daibukai is featured is this one.

Have you actually read the manga ? I did, and i'd like to know your opinion if you did.
Btw this series has a prequel and a sequel, the former among other things showing how Edajima, as main character, is tasked to ensure Pearl Harbor can happen.

Reading scanlations was the bulk of my research, as a matter of fact. I made it a few volumes in, to the point that it stopped being quite so wacky, and... I dunno. Maybe it was the rough translation, but I was left with the impression that it was very much not for me. The way I assume Japanese viewers feel about seeing bucktooth yellowface characters in Western media. (Then again, Ko Takeuchi just tweeted about how much he loves Breakfast at Tiffany's, so what do I know?)

I actually read the whole series and yeah, it literally stops being about the school and beomes a near non stop barrage of back to back tournaments. Hell, the longest break between one ending and another beginning was 3 chapters. The series ended up having four happen before the last one got suddenly stopped halfway in.
And spoilers, we never find out anything about Momotarou's past, and he never experiences any character growth.
Also the narrator literally lies when he makes up that characters have died, when they all appear alive later. And that after the series indulged in it's gimmick of brutally murdering animals to showcase the gimmick of the fight is actually serious too. They explain away people falling into acid we got demonstrated was actually acid and somehow not being hurt by saying "the senior years saved them". That's it.
Oh and speaking of fake deaths, Togashi gets three of those. O´The second time it's at least hinted at that he maybe not dead but the first and third time the narrator bloody lies to you, hell there's a big ass picture of Togashi's face up against a starry background when they talk about how "dead" he is.
Honestly the only good part about this show was Edajima. And yeah, haven't read his prequel yet but I've seen the Pearl Harbour bit and it's true.

Hm, I'd never heard of that before, but I guess it's fitting that a sometimes-xenophobic anime would be used as material for a video that deals in its American equivalent.
