    They really liked that raster flipping effect, didn't they? (Not that I mind, I always love it, though after playing through as many Treasure games as I have it's clearly used rather superfluously here -- though I would doubt a GB game could handle doing literally anything else while that effect is happening)

    Ah, memories... my first Batman game. The soundtrack is still sick... the Caped Crusader was generally treated much better when it comes to games than Superman for example. Great series, keep it up. :)

    Great as always! Please include as much of Lupin's sweet, sweet jazz theme as possible next video. Or you know, that one from the 71 series where the guy just says 'Lupin' a bunch, that's apparently what passed for theme music back then.

    • @JeremyParish

      +Justin Harwood I would love to, but I ran into a LOT of copyright flags when I uploaded the Lupin episode and had to re-cut it several times in order to avoid it being completely blocked in all territories. I don't think I used any original cartoon audio at all in the end. Fair use means nothing to these monsters....

    Love the 8-bit Sunsoft Batman games. I have a particular affinity for the first NES Batman game, because it was a childhood favorite, that still holds up well today. The Return Of The Joker sequel was quite good as well, though it wasn't nearly as good as the NES original. I never owned this as a kid, but I remember playing quite a bit of it, because a friend had it, and when he let me borrow his copy, I must have kept it for weeks. I was never able to beat it, however. The rather evil auto-scrolling levels toward the end become maddeningly difficult after a while. To be fair, the last serious attempt I made to beat the game was over a year ago, and I basically tried to get through it in the car in a Wal-Mart parking lot, waiting for my wife to finish the grocery shopping, so I suppose if I gave it a real serious go, I'd probably topple the Joker and have this one under my belt. Very solid game that makes me long for the Sunsoft of old.

    Wow, Batman NES is a rare case of a game looking better than I remember it. Though switching between the GB version and the NES makes it look good by comparison. My best friend had Batman NES and I borrowed it for weeks on end. One of the first "hard" games I beat all the way through.

    You kept mentioning the console port of Batman. As in singular. There were two other simultaneous console releases on Genesis and PC-Engine by Sunsoft. The Mega Drive version being my first ever import game.

    • @sewart
      @sewart 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sean697 I was going to pipe up and point out the same thing. The scrolling shooter bits are not unique to the Game Boy game. The Genesis version had scrolling driving and shooting bits. It also followed the movie very closely. I'd say the GB version actually has way more in common with the Genesis title.

    • @JeremyParish
      @JeremyParish  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Generation 16 OK, but I made this specific comparison because the NES and Game Boy versions had a lot of staff in common, which does not seem to be the case with the Genesis game.

    • @hecosean

    • @IrishCarney
      @IrishCarney 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a lot to like, but there were flaws too. The biggest issue is the success of Batman 89 went to his head and he took it way too far in Batman Returns. Penguin in particular was disgusting rather than dapper, and the tone was too dark and Catwoman was too kinky for a movie with so much kid-oriented licensed marketing

    • @kingboobs20
      @kingboobs20 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IrishCarney If by taking it too far you mean making easily the best Batman movie ever made then yes.

    What was it with Sunsoft and power-downs? Who was the person that thought "Power-ups are cool, but what if there were evil power-ups? Wouldn't that be fun?" No, hypothetical Sunsoft employee, no it wouldn't.
    You aren't kidding about the first Burton Batman movie being a big deal. I remember one of my second grade PE activities involved us going around acting like either Batman or Joker. It was. . .embarrassing.
