    Alexander Arms puts a 7.5 twist on all their “short” Grendel barrels. They’re the only one I’ve seen to do it as most opt for 1:8. This doesn’t make up for speed but it will better stabilize a heavier bullet at longer distances.

      @LRRPFco52 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bill A. did that for gyroscopic stability on everything 18" and shorter.
      For 20", it was either 1/8.75" from Satern, or 1/9 for Shaw if I recall.
      My first 16" AA was 1/7.5".

    Great video. Short, sweet and to the point. I got mine to carry in my vehicle. I wanted something compact for cqb but with more punch than my 5.56 pistol that is primarily for home defense. With the 3X Burris prism I have on it I doubt I’ll ever take it past 300 yards. That’s what my Creedmoor is for. I agree it’s a very versatile package.

    The ballistics he quotes are mythical. Even assuming he can get 2300 fps out of an 11" barrel, 123 gr ELD match bullets at sea level will go transonic(1230 fps) at approximately 760 yds. This is the real wall. In the transonic area, buffeting occurs, which will cause it to wander everywhere. Even that being said, with these given parameters, supersonic speed ( approximately 1,110 fps) is reached at 860 yds. He is correct, however, that 1,600 fps is maintained out to 450 yds. It just stands out to me because a 123 ELD M bullet goes transonic just shy of 1,000 yds out of my 24" barrel. I guess the rush to claim 1,000 yd performance , out weighs reality. All in all though, the SBR Grendel is pretty crazy. Hunting at 400 plus yds with and 11" barreled pistol, that weighs 5.5 lbs. I love the concept. Just don't pass on my leg and tell me it's raining.

      I am sorry you feel this way. In the end Ballistics don’t lie. Of course there is a way to get the numbers he quotes to work. Which of course to simply push the standard atmosphere to a little over 5,000 ft in elevation. So if you live in Denver CO everything he quotes is absolutely true. If you live in Nags Head North Carolina absolutely not possible. I have no problems with him calling it saying it is based on a standard atmosphere., but any standard atmosphere must be clarified with altitude. If you bought this rifle and ammo combination in Nags Head NC expecting his claimed performance results you would be extremely disappointed in
      Secondly, don’t shoot me. I am just the messenger. I am just pointing out scientific facts. You can use this insight any way you like. If I was you , I would use a ballistics program and draw your own conclusions.
      Don’t believe anything I say. Question anything you hear. At the same time don’t believe anything you hear because of someone’s credentials. Or perceived credentials.
      The rifle performs as he says, if you take in account for elevation and are at 5,000 ft plus. I know this, because I have been playing with 6.5 Grendel and it’s long range ballistics and capabilities for the last 10 years . Where I shoot it is 350 ft in elevation. I have established through actual experience, and hand loading that the information he has supplied is true with certain caveats that were not disclosed. For me to approach these numbers at 350 ft elevation and 59 degrees I have to use a 24” barrel and have a muzzle velocity 2,635 fps. This is pretty hot and trashed the brass in particular primer pockets.
      I really am not offended by your mis characterizing of my background or abilities. You can choose to either question statements which to me were misleading or research it yourself and draw your own conclusions. Or you can blindly accept what is presented to you. For me as a general rule , question what you hear. In particular when you have absolute proof through hard experience that what is being conveyed may or may not be absolutely true.

    is 1125 fps. Also this setup would be at 918 lbs of energy at just 300 yards and dropping fast! Impressive round for sure but

      At my range at 500 foot elevation, 60 degrees 45% I'm 1110 fps at 1,000 yards out of an AA 20" barrel with 123g Amax. Muzzle measures 2512 (Labradar). While I shoot it to 1,000 yards it's happier out to 850 yards or so where it stays solidly above transonic. 1086 fps out of the shorter barrel may be a little optimistic. Hitting something at 1,000 yards is somewhat subjective where the size of the target and the amount of damage you want to do to it effect the answer.

      I have shot the 17.6" at 1000yds more than any of the others, including rapid-fired 6rd groups on steel that were 8" vertical, 4" horizontal. That was at 6600ft elevation though, using 123gr A-MAX hand loads, .7gr lower than max.

    standard disclaimer: i own a grendel rifle, i am not a fanboy. it is not a magic caliber. the claims made in this video seemed a bit dubious. so i dug in and here's what i found, with actual evidence!
    1:08 - 2300fps? well... maybe, but i think not. here's a video from arfcom where they test the exact same load through a 12" barrel (the barrel featured here is 11", so it's HIGHLY unlikely it would be FASTER, although i would believe it was as fast, due to small differences in individual barrels and coatings), and they got an average of 2254. th-cam.com/video/in9FB5WbKWM/w-d-xo.html go to the 3minute20second mark to see the chronograph data.
    supersonic to 1050 yards at "standard atmosphere"? his description of standard atmosphere and Hornady's calculator's match up: sea level, 59degrees. using the 2254fps from arfcom's video, the bullet would go transsonic (1100fps @standard atmosphere according to NASA) at about 950yards (1106fps). if you assume a muzzle velocity of exactly 2300 (which seems too high to me, but he claimed it was right about that in the video) the calculator would yield a transsonic range of a little shy of 1000yds (where it measures 1093fps).
    lastly, i decided to figure out how fast she'd need to be going out of the pipe to actually make it to 1050yds, and according to Hornady (link to the calculator for this specific round discussed is below) the magic number is 2402fps, or about a 100fps faster than the [unsubstantiated] claim here, which likely equates to 2-3 extra inches of barrel necessary to actually have a supersonic projectile at 1050.
    Grendel is a great all-around cartridge. But 1050yds out of an 11"? Not with factory ammo and and non-exotic barrel/coating. For that to work, you'd need it be be a fair bit warmer, or at a markedly higher elevation. check it yourself with the calculator.

      If you shoot the 130gr Nosler RDF, it does 1000yds easily. 123gr SMK and Scenar are high BC bullets as well that outclass the Hornady 123gr ELD-M, but ELD-M is more affordable and available to shoot. The scope really becomes more of a determining factor in what you're wanting to do with it. Most people aren't going to put a target scope on an 11" AR15, but the compact magnified optics options with good reticles are slowly being added to the market. The NightForce NX8 1-8 is pretty ideal for many uses on a pistol or SBR Grendel. You get excellent Close Quarters, hunting, and more than adequate long range use with that optic.

    For the Tacstar CF 10" handguard did you have to swap out the original barrel nut from the stock Alexander Arms AR Grendel?

    If anyone watches this in 2024 these fps numbers are wrong here. I only get his stated FPS out of my 22” barrel.

    “You got targets out to 1000? It’s great for that.” Umm. No. It’s capable, yes. But it’s not “great” for that. It’s remarkably capable for such a compact option, but let’s not pretend these are going to tearing up PRS.

    What does the bravo recommend for buffer on sbr for this??

    • @LRRPFco52
      @LRRPFco52 ปีที่แล้ว

      Standard carbine buffer is fine, but they like being sprung heavier with Sprinco Red. That's what I use in my 12" Grendel suppressed. I also use the Bootleg Adjustable Gas bolt carrier system, choked fully-suppressed.

    They test those BC using the 24" barrel, not 11". But nice gun there!

      BC doesn't care about the barrel length.

    it "can" get out to 1000yds is one thing, but will it be consistent tight grouping is another thing...... hell, a 22lr can get out to 1000yds also 😂😂😂

      Hey Nicolas, thanks for watching, I appreciate it! There is only so much time, but you might see a follow-up in the future demonstrating additional capabilities. I can get out to beyond a thousand at another range.

    That barrel length is too short. I don't care who makes it.

      I love short-barreled Grendels. Just got another 12" and finished my 10.5", after shooting my first 12" for 4 years. Started with 16" and 18" before that.
