Now this is what I was expect when I hear the words “droid army”. Not some goofy two-legged walking targets holding rifles, but these terrifying sentient gunships killing with ruthless efficiency.

To some poor planetray defence force shmuck with A280 blaster rifle and no plot armor for defence B1s and B2s weren't joke at all.
I honestly think the massive waves of B1 and B2 battle droids is honestly terrifying especially if you're a clone and you're vastly outnumbered they only seem goofy and ineffective because Jedi are present and Jedi are the ultimate ex machina.

Isn’t it weird that the HMP played the same role as Mi-24s in Afghanistan and the LAAT visibly looks like a giant Mi-24 without its rotor and with the tail cut off.
Star Wars was very fond of historical vehicles, and they took many roles from modern day equipment to make it maybe even more realistic.
I love the puffy cheeks it has. makes it look pissed off.

The entire Onderon Arc in the Clone Wars was inspired by the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan.

really cheap on pc and the servers are back up
you can get it on steam for like 10 bucks i think and its got controller support. (you may want to install the HD menu fix.. if menu resolution don't fit your screen like i had to.
I'd also recommend looking into installing the Remaster project which just makes the game look a lot better if you want something that changes the game up but still all around great.
SW: Battlefront 2 Saga edition it makes the game look better adds new classes or load outs for existing ones thats more accurate to other sources i guess. adds maps from Battlefront 1 and custom maps like Umbara also game modes like uber conquest supremacy order 66 heroes vs villains so on.
Than you have cross era battles. 501st vs Clones Empire vs CIS rebels vs CIS and even though this makes no sense the rebels vs the republic... ya know the one they wanted to restore but i love it. Sadly no cross era space battles and no multiplayer (yet.. maybe..) you still have regular battles and new hero units its over all really damn good.
(yet.. idk if its still being worked on.)

And it is the Star Wars version Hind helicopter during the Soviet Afgan War. Without pilots.

One of the best scenes was when that Tactical Droid fistbumped the gunship on Onderon.

I'm so glad for this HMP, but I still miss the Mechanized Assault Flyer from the first and original Star Wars Battlefront. It deserves a comeback and plus it was a predecessor to the HMP so makes sense to have it too.

Oh my God I remember playing Republic at War and those damned droids appeared to ruin my day. And if they attacked in groups, I didn't even play anymore, I just turned off the game.
The Separatists got all the OP units in Republic at War. The HMPs were the worst.
I found that turbo lasers are beasts against them. But yeah i agree they freaking suck if you run into them without anti air support

They are terrifying. Heck when I played Republic At War as the Republic those gunships alone would annihilate majority of my forces.
Fun fact in the onderon episode, which was an homage to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, the HMP is supposed to be the New Hind-D gunship and the Rebel missile launchers are the Stingers provided by the CIA

This wasn’t a gunship it was a super heavy unit, and with the added benefits of unloading battle droids. The heavy weapons makes it an absolutely terrifying menace to fight against, and you needed heavy weapons to bring it down, but that only if you can hit it. This thing will shred infantry formations and will destroy light armor, and every clone troopers will probably be afraid fighting these Gunships as the war progress.
The HMP has the same exact role as the LAAT Gunship. Is the LAAT not a Gunship then?
The HMP is easily one of my favourite small ships in starwars tied with the arc 170
2006 SW battlefront 2 also had them in space battles, not just in atmosphere.
I think they can be used in both just not to the effectiveness as they would be in atmosphere. Kinda how tie fighters were less effective in atmosphere than tie strikers and vice versa! My interpretation tho. The og battlefront had some awesome additions to the lore and I still beleive the rise of the empire is canon in my eyes

That episode was Charlie Wilson's war in space, I thought the part with Hondo was an awesome touch, republic weapons through clandestine intermediaries.

I feel the best time the droid army is represented is when there aren’t powerful Jedi or Jedi around at all. Look at the Speratist attack on Ryloth, Both Geonosis battles, The attack on the banking clan, the attack against Ayla Secura,The battles for Felicia, Onderon and many more.

Does anyone had battlefront 2 ps2 flashback ? When you could put seven droids in it and board the venators ? That was fun. Especially letting some bomb on a starship ready to leave, and see it blow up in space later, as it left the hangar...
Yeah but when you landed it in the hanger as a mobile command post the droids would just fly it away and leave you there

Some might say it's "Legends" but that ship was a real pain to destroy in the 501st story line when it landed in your hanger on Battlefront 2 (2005)

Basically the Star Wars version of the Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter: Versatile, hard to kill, tons of firepower and the ability to carry troops into combat AND support them after doing so.

My friends and I have affectionately nicknamed the HMP the "Hump" even though it's completely flat.
Also, "By your command' is much cooler than "Roger Roger"
I actually liked this design. It reminds me a bit of the Defiant class starship from "Star Trek"
If I remember correctly, this gunship was actually playable in the OG Star Wars Battlefront on one map and completely OP against anything the Republic had to offer 😅

Imagine if the cis made droids like the t800 terminators. I imagine the clone wars from a boots on the ground perspective to look more like the scenes in those movies.
The gunships also terrify Saw Gerrera and Lux.
I like the Space Engineers screen shot. It would be a sad day in hell if the HMP Gunship was as good in Starwars.

So that video sparked a question in me : why was there no droïd-piloted ships able to transport people or cargo ? Well, after the clone war, I guess there was a pretty heavy anti-droid sentiment/policy in the Empire, particulary against combat able droïd but it still seems like a waste... (and obviously the original trilogy would have not exist if there was, but beside that is there an in-universe reason?)
If you already answered that in another vid, feel free to just guide me towards it, I'll be happy to watch it :)

Practical powerful, and flexible gunships that are AI controlled and able to carry a variety of weapons even act as droid carriers but primarily were designed as Gunships and support for the troops and designed to be intimidating as hell which loses none of their capabilities and perform exactly as they were designed to do, kill everything it encounters. Okay that's terrifying. Being able to speak to their commanding officer and sounds like Cylons.. Okay that's absolutely terrifying. 0_o'
Makes you wonder how Cylons would rate against the Droid Army.
Armoured Productions Well, BSG weaponry is a few technological tiers below that of Star Wars, but I'd say that at the least the Raiders would give Vulture Droids a run for their money

The HMP reminds me of the Soviet Hind gunships, their use in Andaran(?) reminds me more of the Hind's use in Afghanistan
