  • In order to benefit from movement, to improve, to organize yourself better, to feel better, resolve trauma, get rid of pain, you have to move in a certain kind of way. In this video I show you how. You have to start small, think about your movement, feel your movement, rediscover your own lines of movement and follow them. In this way you can resolve many troubles.
    In this lesson we use "lifting the head lying prone" as an example, and will experience the immediate benefits for the neck, chest, fluidity of movement, movement expertise, and improve a lot of basic movement patterns such as lifting the head, turning the head, breathing, overall posture, flexibility of the upper body, just to name a few.
    Somatic education is a field within bodywork and movement studies which emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. The term is used in movement therapy to signify approaches based on the soma, or "the body as perceived from within," including Alexander technique, the Feldenkrais Method, and Rolfing. In dance, the term refers to techniques based on the dancer's internal sensation, in contrast with "performative techniques".
    This is my series of videos with beginner lessons of the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education. This will give everyone with an Internet connection the chance to get to know the Feldenkrais Method, to learn more about awareness, mindfulness, how to take care of one's own health, and to become better day by day.

    Toughest lesson so far. Will be repeating lessons 6,7,8. Can see it will become much more fun. Feel my inner child is angry, grumpy and annoyed at being kept in a box for so many years. Sure he will come to life soon.

      Hi alfonse! First, thank you for sharing! It was difficult to find any feldenkrais lessons lead by a real person on TH-cam. I've been following you getting better day by day even though I have some feldenkrais experience already I'm really enjoying it... I have one question, when we do the rolling it feels really good and sometimes I feel a stretch. Still it feels good but i get confused because of my dance training I think sometimes that "stretch" feels good to me but maybe it's not good for me? I'm not sure... should I avoid going to that place even though it can be pleasurable for me?

      There's a wonderful podcast about Biotensegrity from Dr. Stephen Levin on „The Liberated Body Podcast”, it's called „DR. STEPHEN LEVIN: BIOTENSEGRITY (LBP 035)”. I also recommend listening to the episode „THE ARCHITECTURE OF LIVING TISSUE WITH JEAN-CLAUDE GUIMBERTEAU (LBP 059)”. They don't talk about stretching, but after listening you just need to put 1 and 1 together to answer this question. Best greetings!

    Thank you for sharing these wonderful sessions. I love how informative you are yet you make me laugh all the time. Your post are healing in many ways. I’ve just started to learn to appreciate this body in the past couple of years through emotional healing coupled with trying to manage yoga. But I must say this method is AMAZING! In days I felt more relief than I have felt in years! I never knew this body, in its current state, could feel light and fluffy. It’s a new discovery to me! But what amazed me most is the emotional release that happens when doing these movements in lesson 7 and 8. What liberation!!! I appreciate you immensely! Thank you so much for helping us all! When the body is more at ease, everyone you come in contact with gets more joy.

    My partner enjoyed climbing to "Left Foot Mountain". I feel very different after this lesson. During the arm-leg raises on the floor I identified a very tight muscle in my front left-side with particular arching movements. This muscle released during the movements and now my chest is sitting much higher and more 'open'. Thanks Alfons see you in the next lesson...

    The fact is, for some of us this Must be difficult. Certainly not comfortable. My plan to get around this, because I do intend to get to comfort or some kind of ease, is to Feel my discomfort as something that I am traveling Through rather than an immovable fate. I'm trying to keep organic sensibility while lifting all these different parts here into the 35 min. point I got the idea to see myself -- FEEL myself -- as deep down in the very colorful oceanic realm. Even better ~ to be an octopus. Big difference toward conceptualising the gesture(s). I'm going to go with Quadropus, though the head should probably be included.

    Because I am 1. such a model student and because I 2. can look so badly from the prone position to the monitor I did not get my leg up. Only at the end did I watch Alfons closely enough and saw, that the leg then comes much higher when the hip is also lifted. I had pressed my hip to the floor🙈😀. So since Alfons instructions are usually very precise, I would have executed this movement better if Alfons had said "lift leg AND hip". Probably only I have this understanding problem, .....well, I'll do the sequence again and look forward to the see-saw.
    Nevertheless, something feels REALLY good now afterwards, like mostly I don't know what exactly feels so different and better, but definitely something is much better.
    I am very grateful for Moshe and Alfons and TH-cam and my floor.

    Nice. Question Ahead. Bringing a whole new meaning to "explore yourself", "feel yourself", "massage yourself", "play with yourself". I feel as if all of the previous things I've seen from feldenkrais somehow work together.. this is amazing.
    One thing I realized and observed though. I know my left side has many weakneses (disc protusions, herniations , impigements etc). However, at around minute 33~37 doing the right foot and right hand/head up I felt a huge tightness on my right quadriceps. Could this be due to the left side issues or is it more of a right side weakness unrelated to the left side one? It's an interesting observation and I still feel the muscle soreness.
    Thanks. I wish I could give 1000 likes

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting, considering that a lengthening of the right side means a shortening of the left. This might be related to your report of weaknesses (the disc material squeezed out of the spine to the left, like squeezing a lemon, wow, this sounded overly dramatic 😅) … maybe you’re on to something… maybe protecting the left side led to weakening of the right … quads? Is this the agonist (opposite pair)? And now a little bit of overwork can be felt strongly? I can’t say! Please continue to stay true to your own observations and play with possible conclusions. Stay safe by working slowly and staying inside your savety zone…

    This was interesting! Lesson 6 I found quite difficult, on my front, though the results felt very good; then lesson 7, also on front, was one of the most profound in effect, and not so difficult ... but this one was the hardest of any of your lessons, and much of the time wasn't fun like it usually is. Something is going on ... and very much an extention of the day I just had. Oh well, see you in the next ...

      Interesting! Since I can’t see you, could you describe it? What are the easy parts of this lesson, and where do the difficulties start? You could share here, or on Patreon, or keep your answer private altogether. But maybe you can solve your movement challenge in writing?

      @@ImprovingAbility Dear Alfons. When I did this lesson I had been working on a very frustrating editing task all day. I was upset and cross, and resentful of using so much of my time in that way. I finally decided I should do one of your wonderful lessons and be soothed and cheered up by YOU!!! It was a case of wanting the wrong thing, I think. I had to laugh, really, that I did not get what I wanted! (And, of course, I need to organise my life better so I don't do jobs I don't like!) Last night I went back to lesson 4 of GBDBD, one of my favourites, and all was well. Today my neck still feels good from the work last night. But the arms/neck/shoulders knots and stiffness has been with me for decades. At last I am getting better, slowly and surely. Lying on my front certainly puts a strain on my arms/neck/shoulders, but as I said before, lesson 7 was magic, and I felt incredible when I got off the floor. With lesson 8, I kept needing to stop and bring my arms down to my sides. it started to get easier by the end, with the rolling. I see you have an other video on rolling on the floor ... perhaps I should try that before I try this lesson again. What do you think? (I think I will be getting down on the floor with you for the rest of my life!!) Janet xx

    Oh my gosh Alsons! -My chest feels so 'awake'. haha! I absolutely had a ball rolling around, but when I went to get up, I had a pretty bad headache again (like a hangover thing). I still think this is probably due to the neck b/c everything else felt so fluid, as if I have a new front chest/belly! -Do you know what might be causing the pressure in my head? TY again & loved this lesson!

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mary, there's probably as many reasons for headaches as there are people 😆 I would first rule out the obvious ones: coffee, cigarettes, alcohol. I recommend not taking any of those substances, because they all are toxic to the brain. Besides that continue practicing with these exercises, but also work with my "Relief for Neck & Shoulders" series.
