@AdSense
He simply portrayed a dude who was playing the dude disguised as another dude. And he did a great job.
That was the joke. People don't wanna laugh well that's on them for being lame.
Yep
😂 facts😅
Correct. That wasn’t “black face”
The blackface in the movie was part of a narrative, and even discussed on camera in context of the film…
🤔
RDJ is a white American that played a white Australian playing a black American. It was a great performance in a hilarious movie.
Absolutely 💯. To me that's the kind of performance that deserves an Oscar
He is a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude
RDJ is European not American. Stop stealing our Ethnicity.
If RDJ is American my Native American ass is African now. Oh shit my dick just doubled in size!
He also played a Vietnamese rice farmer near the end of the movie
“Nobody has a problem, let me create one”

Exactly, looks like a funny black character to me. Black face is some other disrespectful mocking type racist stuff.
@@travisstrickland7270 Like what Jimmy Kimmel, and Justin Trudeau had done.
@ag8793 I don't know what the Justin Trudeau thing is, but Jimmy Kimmel was just another example of simply playing a character, the race of Shaq or Karl Malone did NOT matter. You're grasping at straws, making something out of nothing. Everything is not about race or is meant to demean another race... There use to be a thing called "comedy"

@@gregorio87 Justin Trudeau went to a Halloween Party a few years back in pure brown face lol. He went as like an Arab genie or something and his skin was completely painted dark brown. Look it up.
And don’t forget that he invited a n*zi to parliament…TWICE. Invited him, people were outraged and he apologized, and then invited him again like a year later lol.

Amazing how many people don’t get this.
there was a British sitcom many years ago, i forget what it was called but it was about a black family moving in next door to a middle aged white guy who lets just say was not happy about it, some today would call it racist but it wasnt, it was about how stupid the white guy was.
exactly
It wasn’t make fun of black people, it was making fun of people doing blackface.
Exactly 👏👏👏
Not even that. It was making fun of method actors.
@@redbigun Exactly. They were making fun of actors who are so deep in their show biz bubble and so far up their own backsides that they are oblivious to common sense. The character had gone so far into method acting that he was unable to see that he was essentially engaging in minstrelry.
It was making fun of all Hollywood stereotypes.
Exactly. Just like blazing saddles wasn't trying to be racist it was making fun of racists.
Tropic thunder is an all time classic

That film is funny as hell.
And he never said the N word he slapped the black guy who said it
@Chakawatts what do YOU mean, "You People." ??
I’ve never seen a black person who was offended by RDJ in Tropic Thunder. It’s very clear he’s not mocking black people. The target of the joke is the actor himself, his vanity and ignorance, not black people. I think everyone gets that.
Only people who have issue with it haven’t seen the movie, they’ve only seen clips or screen grabs and form their opinion on that alone without the full context of the film.
Without that role (and the perfect casting) that movie is so far less than what it is.
Exactly. It's the greatest single critique of method acting you'll ever see. Kirk Lazarus does this vain, stupid, ridiculous and completely offensive act of darkening his skin solely because he wants to win another Oscar. It was great.
@@djraptorxand only people that haven't seen that movie don't understand how great it is.
The point of the movie is how ridiculous the industry, celebrities, and entertainers are.

"What do you mean you people" ," What do YOU mean you people" lol. Great movie.
As a black man I love Tropic Thunder. I watch it several times a year. To me I actually thought that RDJ's character was the coolest of them all because half the time I'd forget that it was RDJ. The movie wasn't making fun of black folks. They were making fun of method acting. His impression of a black man was that of a really cool and badass black man. That's why his character gets called out for it the whole movie 🤣. I'm sure that people that have a problem with Tropic Thunder haven't actually watched the movie or they have a lousy sense of humour.
That's the problem with this country now, it's lost its sense of humor.
We used to make fun of ourselves and other people and be able to laugh about it, as long as it wasn't too personal.
Soon as we started making everything about the color of our skin, it became thin and weak and no one can joke about anything that has to do with it. It's ok to laugh at each other as long as we are with and for each other.
@@brianj3150 facts 💯
As a black man I think RDJ did a great job, #tropicthunder is a straight up classic!
Thank you 🙏 humanity needs a sense of humor to survive. We should take the piss of of these woke commies.
They have zero sense of humor
Its important to have an actual black character to consistently point out how fucked up and racist he was being just existing in black face "what do YOU mean 'you people?' "
The movie itself acknowledges he's doing black face. It's fucking part of the comedy of the movie.
He was making fun of people who did blackface. He wasn’t trying to play a black man. He was trying to play a white man doing blackface. Huge difference.
no he was actually making fun of hollywood always looking to cast white actors no matter what the race of the character they're playing is, while also making fun of delusional method actors who don't break character while filming. there's a lot of layers to Kirk lazrus lmao
@Thatthar899you lost me at the remake part. The film is literally perfect as is. There is no reason for a remake, reboot, sequel, or prequel. Anything more would ruin the films legacy.

I also kinda see it as making fun of method actors. “I don’t drop character till I do the DVD commentary” 😂😂 he’s just a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.
To include those that went to far with method acting, because thats also an issue with acting now. That people go to far with method acting.
Tropic Thunder was GOLD! I still be laughing at RDJ's character. 😅😅
I think that was his best performance so far.
RDJ, portrayed a better Black American than any Caribbean or African actor could have ever portrayed in film.
We cannot relate to seeing a Caribbean or African portray us in a film, it comes off as a minstrel.
Strangely enough, RDJ portrayal was spot on and funny as hell😂.
The vernacular, mannerisms, and personality was spot on and relatable to most Black Americans.
I guess it’s an American thing.

Uncle June-Bug was a retired Veteran who served in the Vietnam war.

Man Downey killed that role. Tom cruise too.
Downeys role wasn’t offensive at all, and the fact that they even had Brandon Jackson’s character roast Kirk Lazarus for playing a guy who’s playing guy that’s playing as another guy, was great. The writers outdid themselves lol.

The movie did to blackface what Avitar the Last Airbender did to sexism. Always been one of my favorites excellent line people are getting ridiculous
The thing about that line is it's a "real" line. He plays an Australian guy that gets casted to play a black guy. So if it was just a movie script to the actor he played then the line should have just been "I'm a dude disguised as another dude".
