They undergo a more concentrated version of the SAS selection so technically, it IS real training. Except more concentrated

I've read countless books from ex sas and it's unlikely ex sas soldiers would participate in a show portraying sas training that "not the real training at all", as you've put it. One of the biggest differences (according to the actual ex-SF instructors) is that throughout the real SAS/SBS selection the DS dont shout, dont encourage or decourage. Its about self-motivation. So psychologically you dont know how good or bad its going. And each part takes months to complete and you can fail at any time. This is just for TV.

Yes I believe that is correct. I was Royal Navy untill made redundant. Had that not been so. I would have been there longer I guess. Defence cuts end of cold war.
I know from my courses the staff don't speak unless it's a safety issue. And only instruct other classes to those they don't know.
You struggle to separate the training from reality during the RTI phase. In other words you struggle to convince yourself it’s training, it becomes very real, very quickly
I watched a Jeremy Clarkson documentary about the Commandos raiding St Nazaire, and one of the Veterans said that there was no shouting and you were treated on the same level as staff.
It's called Silent Running. We do it in Australia for our Commando Selection, and I believe the SASR do it as well. It's quite the headfuck, to tell the truth.

They dont go for anything else after this if they pass. Passing is just a recognition that you passed they show.

I’m pretty sure if you pass you get give an option if you want to do the real thing, and if you say no they show your reaction to getting a pass on TV and if you say yes they will put a reaction of you failing on TV. Doesn’t mean you get the real thing any easier, it more like they add your name to the list and make sure you get on the course but it’s just as hard.
Yeh you need minimum seven years experience in the armed forces to just apply for special forces training in the British military

Anyone who really thinks this show is anything like SAS selection is living in cloud cuckoo land! It's just a boot camp scenario with a few physiological tests thrown in. It's entertaining though. Enjoying your channel mate. Keep up the good work.
It's obvious that a show for civillians isn't going to be as demnading as a course that 90% of elite experienced soldiers fail.
The interrogation part for actually SAS and SBS soldiers last a lot longer than the two days they go through. Still though it’s a half decent watch better than some shit soap haha
you have to remember the show is filmed over 8 days and they have to try and fit as many elements in as possible

Nothing happens after they pass. The show just lets people see if they have the VERY fundamental building blocks to become an SF Operator, mostly celebrities these days and the show isnt as intense anymore in my opinion. Even Mark "Billy" Billingham, one of the DS, said that none of those who passed would realistically have any chance on real SAS/SBS Selection. Its just a show to see some basic aspects basically. Hope this shed some light, cheers.

I binge watched all 5 seasons! - It's true there is a bit of drama but all participants are civilians without any military training.
It is a first class production that gives a TINY glimpse of what SAS selection involves. The locations are breathtaking and the photography is awesome. In Season 4 they allow women on the course and some of them really kick ass!
The instructors are a mix of SAS and SBS veterans. The show also raises money for cancer research in the UK.

Yeah, both those guys were amazing. Neither completed the course, but I think they got more out of it than most “contestants”.

Yeah as a former Londoner who has lived in the States for over 20 yrs,naturally I don't get to choose or watch many TV shows..But as u have rightly observed this is just another BS so called "Reality Tv"show..And most of the instructors are former "SBS"which is probably closer to the American Seals..Except for Mark"Billie"Bingham who is a former SAS Veteran of Parachute Reg(8 yrs)and SAS(19)He has also been a Bodyguard to many well known celebs(Brad&Angie Jolie,Tom Cruise,Hulk Hogan and so on).And if u watch another former Royal Marine Chris Thrall"s channel,then that might be of some interest..But this show👎

I'm glad you realise this is reality, I remember on your last react videos you made some comments on the commando training, made me sad that you may have thought that was what it was actually like.
Problem is to join the specials you have to already be in the military and badass. So civilians wouldnt be able to apply anyway. Show is unrealistic
In SAS selection and training, there is no screaming or shouting, no motivations. You are there because you want to be and you either leave or you’re failed so this isn’t really like selection. It’s more like basic military training
All the instructors on that show are ex SBS except the grey haired guy who is ex SAS
They cover different terrains in different seasons, jungle, arctic, mountain, etc. There’s also a ‘celebrity’ version.
i watched the first 3 seasons or so of this show and thought it was actually pretty legitcompared to most of these types of 'survivor' reality shows. really glad to see you're take on these, would love to see more from who dares wins
The trainers in this were all former SAS or SBS, but the training seen in the show is obviously easier then that required of the SAS due to TV purposes. Also almost all of these people taking part have no military experience what so ever.. occasionally there is a few who have. But for the most part it's all civilians having a go at dumb down parts of the training
But if they pass this training, can they go into the military because I mean, this is more tough than average training for an average British Soldier

When you said it’s a ‘slice’ you’re absolutely right. People here in the UK like this show but never actually think this is the tip of the iceberg. The actual training is unimaginable, certainly not suitable for any form of UK TV :( gutting cause i’d rlly like to see how far they push the body and mind. Respect 🔥
From what I know from watching ex 9 Para SF videos and podcast, they check your mental, heart and physical limits. Breaking soldiers to extreme limit. You never give up.
SAS, Green Berret and other SF battalion more or less go through hell for 6 months.

I think that "Who dares wins" is one of the better reality shows of this type. I agree that it is cut for entertainment reasons and to be honest do we want everyone in TV land knowing what our regiment boys are doing 100%. Respect to anyone who can complete something like this. It shows character just like with all our servicemen and women.
You should probably binge the entirety of the seasons. You will love it! Quality production and scenarios!

Ant can be called out at any time from what I’ve heard on interviews, he said “I’m signed on for life” and then he went on to talking about how he could until he’s like 70 or something

I was in the army for 12 years and back in the 90s our regiment did hunter force for the escape and evasion part of the sas training course, and i can tell you that the real training that they go though on selection is insane, these programs are nowhere near as harsh as what the real selection is.
My brother did selection in the 70s but failed the first phase when he got a bad case of pneumonia.

Nothing if you pass the tv show, even the guy running the show said “ none of them would pass selection in real life!”. He said come on! We have guys who have been in the military for around 10 years fail.
Some of them definitely have the potential too if they've been in the military for a few years, cant just expect a civilian to pass though
FIonn Lord That logic doesnt make sense, those who are in special units arent "forged" by prior military experence they are forged by their past, so being in the military vs being a civilian has hardly an advantage when we're talking being qualified for those types of units
Lividbutton there is a podcast on TH-cam by Billingham who explains it all. He said they wouldn’t pass the real selection as you’re up against experienced soldiers.

I'm in the British Army myself and I've been to presentations by SRR operators telling us what SF selection entails and how to apply. I also know 2 lads that have completed the hills phase, obviously it's brutal but if you are fully committed training up for it and if you have the right mindset it's possible. You're acting like there's no way physically possible for these lads to pass selection when in fact there is.
I respect you Sir. As ex infantry, you and I know in real life its not as easy as the TV show , it's pain, sweat, and tiers. The quicker you dig in and help your boys the better your journey through training you will have

Like you said this is a tiny tiny snippet of what it takes and your normal civilian would struggle their hardest to even complete this. Ex British soldier here. Seen the program in the UK, when they pass nothing happens they can just say they have done a weeks pre sas training.

Honestly I've watched every series of SAS who dares wins and I love it I have done no training what so ever and couldnt go through it myself but it is good to get an insight of what it takes to get into the SAS. Hats off to them for even giving it a go 👍 and I don't know myself what happen after but I would think they would put it to good use

Jamesons Travels . Keep it up buddy 👍 Love the videos. If you want to read more interesting stories look up the SAS when they stormed the Iranian embassy in London in 1980. And the Scottish former SAS soldier called John McAleese who was the leader of that operation. He has a very interesting story and he also lost a son in Afghanistan aswell.
The wall at PI, there were a few that just wouldn’t want to go down, they were already leaned out... after they did it once, they could do it a hundred times. People are afraid of getting to the edge of the cliff, then they are afraid of falling, then they are afraid of landing... enough philosophy haha; love your channel! I don’t miss an episode.
What happens after the show mate is the huge sense of achievement you have earned for turning what possibly a negative past right into a positive weather they choose to forward on to military training is there choice.
At the end of the program the just go back to civvie life, the show is basically a test for themselves. It's for bragging rights

I watched a podcast with Ross Kemp and Billy (one of the ex SAS staff on the show) and he said that on the show they go through about 12 hours of interrogation but in the real selection you go through 36 hours
24-33hrs of stress positions and white noise. 1-3 hrs of interrogation

They go home and that's it in reality none of them would make it through the first 2 days of real selection. There only there for 2 weeks it's entertaining none the less.

It’s a great little taster for civilians, watched the show and it’s certainly entertaining, when they have someone undercover who’s served it gives civilians a good reference point.
after the course all recruits just go back home, dont think they go on to any other course or training since they havent actually passed the real S.A.S. selection or had any Military experience. Vids are great, keep it up man
S.A.S selection is just the first part of training if your lucky enough pass you will then be put on 1 years probation to see if your can handle it out on ops and if you cant they will kick you straight out.
Well presented by you,Jameson,... I was in 1966. Back then the military toughness was everywhere. My Canadian MOC was Transport,but we did all the grunt training as if it was our MOC. Reason being if you got over run and landed in a situation where you were required to defend your self and your position,your training becomes very useful.
Thank god the first American truly understands this is a TV show 1% of the training if not less, to even get considered for SAS or SBS they must have served seen action and have military experience usually a long record. To answer your question, they win nothing but a respectful handshake from a SBS serviceman which is a reward in itself.

I was in Hereford for a few months and saw some RTI stuff that was happening in an open field.
Their instructors are actually kind of comforting like that which, is weird. The guys I was there with was walking us around and we saw the beginning of RTI on our way to the front of the base.

Me: yeah we call it SERE though and it sucks.

@@JamesonsTravels not one of the great hairy unwashed that pass through this TV show continues onto any UKSF training. You need to have served as a regular in a Brit or Commonwealth unit for 2 years (with a few operational tours under your belt), before you can even think of volunteering for UKSF training (which is strictly SAS, SBS, SRR, a Signals and an RAF/Army hybrid unit). Then it's still down to your boss to give you the thumbs up. They can say no if you're any good, and they want to keep you in your current unit. We did once have 2 reserve units attached to SF - 21 & 23 SAS, but there was a reorg, and they are now considered ISTAR rather than SF units.
If anything, it may inspire one or two of the tv participants to give the regs a lash....doubt it though.

Watch Mutiny, a re-enactment of the 'Mutiny of the Bounty', 4000miles (I think that's right) in a 23 foot boat with 8 other crew, only oars n sails, crew were from all walks of life. I think that at one time in his life Ant may have been that way, to a point, but I personally would follow this true leader anywhere.
Yeah from what I know to even have a shot at the SAS selection you need 3-4years of military service. Be it serving in the Scotts or Intelligence Corp all the way to Parachute regiment. Lol most of these guys on the show can’t even strip the L85A3 or A2
They are typically made for easy field stripping...It's part of the design requirement, so just about any boot can be taught how to do it in very little time... I mean you have to be an absolute moron if you can't be taught with minimal time, how to strip a rifle.
So bit puzzled why THE thing to mention as far as abilities they lack, would be rifle stripping ???
It’s good to see an actual marine speculate on the show. I’ve always thought I’d kinda love to give it a go because I like training hard and pushing myself to the end and I think the mental and physical benefits would be worth it. That said I don’t view it as an easy task and never have what you guys do is phenomenal and it’s really incomparable to anything that takes inner and physical strength and it’s inspiring. I’d love to see you on like a joe rogan pod cast just talking about what it takes to be a marine and how hard it actually is. Then maybe people won’t think it’s so easy.

good to see the last bloke cry because he past , sas , navy seals , commandos , ect . we all are still humans and have to deal with a lotta shit in our time on earth , getting older makes me more emotional . Damn mate , never shed so many tears the past years . guess it is coming home to my soul .

This is nothing like the real SAS selection, although Ant Middleton and his team do a very good job at replicating it..civilians can not replicate what it is to be a soldier because their motives are different than those of a serving soldier who does selection..civilians are mostly doing it for the glory whereas a serving soldier has higher and more realistic motives..the SAS are not looking for glory hunters and will weed them out very quickly during selection..When I was in the forces, I was urged by some comrades to do SAS selection and although I was a good, extremely fit field soldier, I knew that I lacked that "je ne sais quoi" that it takes to do SAS selection.. I have had comrades who joined the SAS and I knew a couple of guys who also failed selection and one that actually died doing selection training and I know from hearing about their personal experiences that you have to be very special indeed to become a member of the most elite and highly trained special forces regiment in the world....

@Kamil S WTF do you know ?.. your response is stupid..you just think someone joins the SAS only because he has mental and physical toughness?? Mental toughness wouldn't exist without a motive to get you through the immense mental challenges..If that was the case then the SAS would be full of the wrong people which it clearly isn't..
