  • Torticollis is a condition in which a baby's head is "twisted" or turned to the side and tilted to the opposite side. Here the babies have their head tilted to the right and turned to the left. It can also happen in adults but this playlist is dedicated to the treatment of torticollis in babies. I would like to thank Bode's family who allowed me to come into their home for 6 hours at a time to film him starting when he was 1 month old. ...And then to return and do it again. Wow! Bode does not have torticollis. Bode was quite tolerant of being turned and stretched this way and that. I hope you find these videos useful. If you believe your baby has torticollis, consult your doctor and a pediatric physical therapist with experience treating a child with torticollis for a program specifically designed to address your specific child's recommendations. Do not delay. Earlier treatment is predictive of better outcomes and shorter treatment.
Here are the clinical guidelines for treatment of congenital Muscular Torticollis:

How many minutes/times per day would you recommend doing this exercise?

The Research is unclear on that answer. It appears more frequent. Stretching is better than less frequent.

Is there any advantages to this stretch compared to the traditional methods?

There is no research indicating that one type of stretch is better than another. I believe it would be up to the individual family to see which stretches are tolerated Best by the child.

Hi, my baby is 20 days old, is this exercise too much for him at this age?

Unfortunately, I cannot make recommendations for specific child that I have never evaluated. I will say that this baby is one month old himself.

Hi there, I was just wondering what kind of torticollis my 8 month son has. He constantly flips from his back to the left and ends up on his tummy. He has a bald spot on the lower left part of the back of his head. I also wanted to ask for any suggestions on how to help with my son’s sitting. He wants to extend so he leans back and fights me when I try and get his pelvis or hips (I’m not sure which) forwards so he’s more upright.

Hmmm. Sounds like he may have more than just a neck problem if he is extending at the hips. I recommend you consult with a local pediatric therapist who can customize a program for your child

I forgot to add that he avoids turning on the right and even if I have toys he’s uninterested in leaning to the right.
