This was the nicest Christmas present! Thanks for answering my question about how you work with glasses. You captured the essence of each person in just a few lines.. I liked how you switched between the three colored pencils to keep things lively. So fun to learn that you were influenced by Sarah van Dongen. All of her Domestika classes are great.
I love Domestika for finding great courses to boost skills and try new things... Im with you on that! I alllways find watching people's processes fascinating to watch - when I'm doing quicker faces, I often do a similar thing - drawing that face line and jaw - kinda getting the obvious silhouette, and go from there. On more detailed drawings I'm more likely to start with finding all the important points on the face and have a guide down before I start "committing" to ink. But you know, there are a zillion ways to do things and I'm of the opinion that there is no "right" way - just ones we might prefer because they work well for us, haha! I enjoyed watching your series of heads and it's so joyful seeing them come to life in your distinctive style. Love it!
You are so totally a teacher, Melissa❤These were great examples and demos of how you approach drawing faces and especially faces with glasses. Your self portrait was a fantastic first example in drawing “what you see and not what you *think* you see” when it comes to how your glasses looked. And it totally worked and looked real. BTW That drawing of your grandma caught my attention immediately! I was like who is she? She’s so cute and that looks so lifelike (even though it was obviously a drawing) Wow, I guess some magic really happens when you draw someone you love🥰 I feel like I have a very similar approach as you where I draw the face shape then features and when it comes to glasses, I used to draw the glasses right after the face shape. It always messed me up! I started just doing eyes and brows (if visible) first then drawing the glasses bridge and frames after and it was way easier. I think I learned that after drawing the Free Draw Friendzy portrait drawing session. So many people had glasses! So I had to adapt that technique!
@@debbiedrawsfunny hehe, I still love that drawing of my grandma so much. Maybe she needs to come out of my sketchbook and into a frame for the wall… 🤔 and thanks for the vote of confidence! 🤗💖✨
This is so GOOD Melissa 🙌 i think this video made the click you talked about!!! I saved it on my People Drawing list 🤓❤️ THANK YOU, you teach very well. This will be perfect for People month in January 😉 and you have a video about drawing people?? I don't remember that one 👀 take care of you, hope you feel 100% soon 😘
@@oficinacaracolinho I’m so glad you like it Teresa! 🤗💖✨ I’d love to see some of the people you draw if you try any of these tips! I’ll be following on people month too - I’m excited to see if anything evolves!
@@melissamartinart Beautiful boy! I watched Sarah's course 2 years ago, I really enjoyed it and her. But I always watch Domestika courses when I am stuck in bed because of the pain, and I never do the exercices. That is a huge mistake I guess. I should try them!
I like the tip to start with the most pronounced line of the face shape! Thank you! Going to try the Art Hang Party 100 faces challenge next!
@@emgjagogg thanks Betsy! 🤗💖✨ I can’t wait to see all your faces!
