Yeah I knew he was gonna say that as soon as he asked. I’ve never even watched a game of hockey in my life but yeah it’s such a cool concept. I like the NBA’s too but nothing tops the Stanley Cup
Thanks for liking our trophy. Question: Why do some football fans insist on the Lombardi Trophy being the greatest when the only arguments they can think of in its favour is the size of the event and not even one argument about the trophy itself?
I agree with Jason. Hockey is not at the top of my sports list but the Stanley Cup is special. Second favorite trophy is the World Cup - because it is only won every 4 years after you beat the rest of the world to become the best soccer nation!
Right on the Stanley Cup. But that WC trophy is small and pathetic; I don't care if it's made of gold, make the earth the size of at least a ball from the game, also the names of the countries that win get put on the bottom of the trophy that no one can see.
Ooooh shit I forget about the World Cup as I'm not a big soccer person, but man that's another gorgeous trophy and it's certainly gotta be one of the most prestigious ones too.
Eh The Champions League Trophy is way cooler. It's the best two teams in the world from the best leagues in the world. Plus its got its own theme song.
You're missing out. Like Baseball, there are a lot of subtle easy to miss actions going on all the time, that influence the game. It's not as nuanced as baseball, but it is more intense, physical, and faster.
@@voiddcxi2630 Baseball has a lot of subtle and very unique aspects to it no other sport has. Especially the duel between the pitcher and batter. Lord Stanley… I was fortunate to hoist and drink out of it TWICE!! When the Red Wings won back to back in ‘97&98… I’ve got a dope pic in front of Federov’s house, catering his party, and I was 15… he was letting everyone get a drink with it and pics.. he saw me and said “Get over here man!” One of the single coolest things ever
the coolest part of the stanley cup is having your name etched on the side with legends of the hockey world, that cup has 125 years of history behind it & it means everything to hockey players. every kid in canada has the same dream of hoisting it up at centre ice & doing your victory lap while the crowd goes nuts.
Not entire true, your name goes on the trophy but they can only fit a certain number of teams. The cup has rings with x amount of teams on it, they add it to the cup but remove the oldest ring. Once a ring is removed, it goes to the HHoF (Hockey Hall of Fame) and is there cemented in history. Otherwise if they kept adding rings of names and not removing old ones, it would be like 6ft tall
In Canada? Hell even the kids across pond in Russia, Finland, and Sweden grow up wanting to follow in the footsteps of their countrymen. It really is an international trophy and the sports greatest ambassador
Gotta agree with Jason on this one. Part of what makes the Stanley Cup so special is that there is only one whereas the Lombardi gets re-made every year.
When the Nats won the World Series after the Caps won the Stanley Cup I remember thinking "Wow, these guys could use a trophy you can really have fun with."
I just watched an old clip where Rick Tocchet brought the cup out on NBA Whatever (Shaq, Ernie, Kenny & Chuck) and he said (I think) that you can fit 14 beers in the bowl
Stanley cup is awesome. And such a grind to win. Game every two nights for like a month and a half. Intense games and you are so beaten up at the end. Very hard to repeat due to the physical toll on your team.
There’s two one of them is in the hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto also, you should probably watch some hockey. It’s a fun sport to watch unlike baseball.
Stanley cup is precious it’s the worst of worst luck for a hockey player to touch it before winning it. Crazy history and superstitions with lord Stanley
The best part about the Stanley Cup is that every single organization that wins provides 52 names to go on the cup, that being players, coaches, management and staff. That was the tradition for a long while, since they can only engrave 13 teams on each ring of the cup, they have started to remove the oldest ring of champs in order to keep the trophy the same size. When the oldest ring is removed, it gets retired into the Hall of Fame, so every single name can still be seen till the end of days. Even if you’re only a member of the coaching staff, as long as your team wins a cup, your name will live on. Generations down the line will be able to find your name on the cup.
100% agree. Hardest trophy to win! Good QB play equates to championships in football. Hockey doesn't have a "QB" equivalent position. Each position is equally important. It's the truest team sport. Not to mention, the playoffs are over 2 months long. Not 4 weeks like the entire NFL playoffs. This is comming from a massive NFL fan.
Agree on Stanley Cup. Also among the hardest if not the hardest trophy to win in sport. You need to win 4x 7-game series with speed, skill, stamina and relentless physicality. Only the strong survive.
As someone who fell in love with Hockey before Football I just have to say I fully agree that it's absolutely Lord Stanley but man the Lombardi for as simplistic as it is, is a really nice trophy, but if I had to pick win the Lombo or win Lord Stanley it's Lord Stanley all day.
Nothing touches how much I love football. I’ll follow baseball, hockey, basketball, and some world soccer. Nothing compares to the Stanley Cup. For one it’s f’n massive. Two, the history of getting a plaque on it and being enshrined in history. It having a bowl to drink from with championship champagne. But really it’s going through a slew of 7 games series to get there. You can somewhat have a luckier easier path to a Super Bowl. Rarely is the Stanley cup winner not the absolute best.
Favourite quote from the guy who looks after the cup “you can hug, you can kiss it, you can even lick it, but if you want to hoist it go out and win it.”
It lord stanley and it’s not even a debate. There’s only one. You’re not allowed touch it unless you get permission. It’s only in your possession for as long as you are the champ. And if you win it. Your name gets engraved.
I was absolutely thinking the Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup feels as opulent as it needs to be without being super gaudy. And also the fact all winners of the Stanley Cup get to have a night with it is way, way, way better then i get to keep my fingerprints on it as it passes to the stage (if the NFL team doesn't polish the ever lovin out of it) in the Lombardi.
Stanley cup is iconic... because it's only one, and you gotta take it from the other team... makes the competition better over making a new one for each team that wins..
