I'm 62. I have no plans of ever retiring. I was injured at a previous job and couldn't work for almost 3 years. It showed me kind of what retirement would be like. It was fun the first month but then it became a struggle just to find something to do. I started back to work in 2013 and I enjoy it more than I used to.
As a youth worker we often have to help teenagers under so much pressure to decide what they wanna do for the rest of their lives that they're omega stressed and depressed. I tell them to just fuckin chill and enjoy life, take their time figuring it out, try a bunch of different things. If that takes a decade more, who cares. life's too short to be stuck in a job or doing something that you just don't enjoy.
as someone who was a teenager just a little while ago you are absolutely right society pressures youth in na countries to have your whole life figured out when you graduate highschool but we dont have to rush work odd jobs figure it out take your time and find something fulfilling and meaningful to you
Ever since I got interested in Japan, the one thing that got me so hooked on Japanese people is how they look at work-not as a job but as a way of life. Thank you for showing me what ikigai is. I have also been struggling with the idea of what to do moving forward. I never saw myself working a 9 to 5, and with COVID destroying my confidence and creating an environment for me to get anxiety, this year, by picking up a new hobby and trying to acquire Japanese, it feels like the first year that I have control over my life. I hope all the best for your channel and any future endeavors. (Sorry for the long read, I never comment on videos normally, but this video made me feel like I needed to comment and you remind me of my best friend.) ❤
that means a lot ! thanks for sharing all of this , the lockdown was a very big reset for me too and I can relate to a lot this, id rather be homeless than work 9-5 tbh once I realized that life doesn't come "at" me, I found it easier to do the things I want to and took more control of everything that happened. hope the best comes your way !
I love your videos. Keep going, I'd love to see you succeed. As a much older beginner TH-camr, when talking with other TH-camrs, it's all about not stopping. In coming to the end of a 7 month break from making videos, but the way forward is now clearer for me. Make meaningful videos and have a meaningful life, and just keep going. When asked, 'What do you want to be when you grow up?', my response is, 'I want to be me, and I'm never growing up.' That is my Ikigai. 🙏
woah that is a really good line at the end, made me stop and think for a second i appreciate the support tho! i have absolutely no intentions of stopping and if this is what you wanna do i hope to see you grow too
Dude your videos are relatable, down to earth, inspiring and hella entertaining. Videos like this make my very weird goal of learning Japanese and moving to Japan seem not so out there and attainable.
that means a lot to hear ! glad I was able to make a positive influence. people seem to naturally tend to think some things are less attainable than they really are too, so seriously glad i could inspire you :)
That means a lot to hear, I'm hoping my content will only continue to improve and one day this video will look like trash in comparison haha glad you liked it tho :)
"Life without you doesn't exist" really caught my attention here. As someone who has struggled to give myself "worth" by focusing on the needs of everyone BUT myself, that handful of words really made me think about it, and it seems to make a lot of sense. My life, specifically, can't exist without me being alive, so what point is there in chasing after things that harm my well-being in the long run..? If I seek worth, isn't my living already enough for the value of the air I breathe? Why not just do what I enjoy? I guess this is something really simple, but I think I'll hold onto that phrase for a while until I thoroughly understand it and believe it. Thanks for the videos and effort, your hard work doesn't go unnoticed, and I'd say that even though other people needing what you're doing may not entirely be necessary, sometimes you just might say something that can alter someone's view of something completely. That may have been the case with me, I guess we'll see in the long run, lol Sorry for Much Text I normally don't comment at all on things but that had a big impression on me so I figured I'd say something.... ok bye
I'm just glad I can cause such an impression, that's the goal of the videos like these. so thanks for commenting and sharing your perspective. I don't know everything, but in my experience finding value in life isn't the result of seeking it. it's something you can find no matter where you are in life. hope the best comes your way !
Very informative video, I learned about ikigai through books, which if you want to delve deeper Japanese philosophy, I would recommend the book of 5 rings and hagakure. I was scared when you didn't upload yesterday, but little did I know you were working extra for this banger! Keep going bro almost at 1k!!!
I'd love to learn more, it's a really big source of creativity when it comes to making videos like these. I'll read those books one day if my attention span lets me I'm COOKING some videos right now trust me the missed day is not only gonna get compensated but we're going in hot now
Just wow. You're deadass smart for analyzing and packing so much information in roughly over 6 minutes (and being a fast talker, lol). I had to replay the last few sentences to actually get the words straight. I got the meaning the first time, but didn't understand it until rewatching 10 times (mainly not because you were talking too fast, but because there was so much truth in so few words.)
Hey your first vid was awesome - the amount of effort it went in was quite visible! Some of the effects and drawing used did remind me of that guy that doodles on vids and is epic! Just keep up the good work mate, I'm sure it'll pay off :3 Anyway, Ikigai is a cool concept - but probably not for everyone. It's good to see fresh takes on it though! Also I do appreciate the rapid fire commentary a lot xD
I didn't realize I was speaking so fast until it was all recorded. Working to find the balance between that and how to keep viewers attention right now... thanks for the feedback tho ! Will try and make the next video better
Idk if it's just me but I'm a foreigner who know English just in a B2 level and i can absolutely understand everything here without slowing the video or using subtitles I don't think that do that it's so necessary
It’s not so much that it was fast, it’s that the diction wasn’t clear. Need to enunciate the words more… Also, the thing I’ve noticed about good speakers is that they vary their intonation more than normal people - it makes the speech sound more engaging.
I also saw that venn diagram on a spanish book. It made sense for me at the time, but I'm still struggling on what to do with my life nowadays. Also I just also got recently to Japan on a 1 year visa and planning to go to Okinawa I'll be thrilled if I bumped into you. Keep up with the videos, great editing.
happy to see you here ! i plan on going to okinawa pretty soon, havent been yet but im excited. hope the best comes to you while you're here though, thanks for the support!
I wish I could speak as fast as you. 😮 I heard about Ikigai last year and I am very interested in finding my own Ikigai because I see no meaning in my life, at least I would have this. Love your editing, colour balance, angles, how you speak (I thought I forgot to turn off 1.5 speed). I wish you good luck! 🎉
haha I speak way too fast for some people so hope it was intelligible you don't need anything crazy to find your meaning in life, sometimes it can just be something to take care of, or something you wanna get good at. that's all ikigai means. thanks for the nice comment :)
@@BecomeAnything. Do not worry, your speaking is a challenge for my listening skills. 🧐 I think I recently found my own Ikigai and it's drawing, learning Japanese and I really want to move to Japan. When I hear or see Japanese things, my eyes start firing. 🤩 My path is directed to Japan. And thank you for answering! You make me feel better about Japan when you show such amazing places in your videos. :0
Beautifully said. I'm 65 yrs old Japanese-American born and raised in the US and I moving towards retirement. I haven't found my Ikigai, but 1) I'm hoping to help my nephews explore and find theirs and 2) I hope to find my Ikigai asI move into retirement. I will explore the meaning of Ikigai and see what I can find for myself. I'm thinking this will give my retirement meaning and purpose rather than seeing retirement as just not working and finding stuff to do. Best of luck to you and thank you for the video!!
It's crazy to hear that as a dumb 18 year old my message got through to someone with more wisdom and experience in life. Thanks for sharing your story, I hope the best comes your way in life and retirement :)
This suddenly appeared in my recommendations! It's going to get hot in Tokyo, so make sure to drink plenty of water (you can safely drink tap water) and be careful of heatstroke! がんばれ~✨
I really enjoy your content, and your philosophical perspective. It would make me happy if you're able to make TH-cam your career. Your video has pretty decent quality and editing, your thumbnails are alright as well, but I feel that your thumbnails could be more eye catching and make your click through rate higher. I genuinely feel that if you can get that CTR up your hard work will get noticed more, because the content itself is good. Your first video in particular (which allowed me to find your channel) had a very good eye-catching thumbnail. Defs underrated TH-camr atm
Thanks so much for the kind words! And I think that's really good insight! Our first video we spent a very long time crafting so it definitely has a much better presentation. Slowly, with ikigai being the one of the first we want to shift our videos back up to that quality with our new found skills since we are still learning!
Great philosophy! It should be a school subject to help youth work out their Ikigai. It would solve a los t of confusions and wasted time in their lives.
I have to admit I still don't get it, but the style of your video was pretty funny. I don't know anything about being a youtuber, but I think you have a unique thing going on. Subscribed.
Well said and wisely put, I appreciate you clarifying Ikigai for us and deconstructing the false interpretation What you iterated to us does seem to capture more of the essence of Ikigai than what that chart does. For whatever reasom, that chart has flaws, just as you mentioned with who know what could change in the future self and the fact that it has nothing to do with what you get paid because I do think our pay is dependent of a greater reality, and what we love to do or are passionate about doesn't always generate income in every culture or society or time period, but just that simple fact that what we consider our "life's work" can be raising a family successfully, or how you said life comes, not at us, but from us, implies we have a hand in crafting something even if very little of meaning to others, ikigai embodies this sense of creation and relationship with the life we're born into and the life that we create and consume, etc. Thank you for this much more spiritual portrayal that dissolves this static and honestly inaccurate representation of the philosophy.
glad this vid could resonate with you! i agree with all ur points made. i think the chart was simply made so that money could be added to the equation. the way i see it, the desire for money is a result of greed, which generally conflicts with the passion that ikigai is meant to embody. mixing the two together just doesnt work, but sadly most people know ikigai as the chart that employs the desire for money and wealth.
So, basically, the meaning in life… There’s a theory in psychology that having meaning in life is incredibly important. Without meaning, people commit suicide (at the extreme lack of it). With meaning, people can persevere through incredible odds being set against them - like the holocaust. Victor Frankl has a book on this; it’s about his observation that the people who found some purpose to keep going, survived the holocaust, whereas the ones that gave up on life, died pretty quickly. So, the meaning is the life-force that keeps you going.
that's really interesting, did not know about that theory or book. thanks for teaching about that because it really adds up to what ikigai is and how it helps people live longer
@@BecomeAnything. glad to be of help ^_^ I think that book helped to point me to one of the reasons why I was depressed at one point. But it’s also pretty common to have an existential crisis in your teens to early 20s (which is where I was at at that point).
Man, your content needs more viewers! My girlfriend is from Japan. She speaks no english and i speak no Japanese. I started using Pimsleur and i memorized hiragana and most of katakana. She is coming to stay with me soon in america. I cant wait. But i want to get better at my Japanese. Its so hard when 14 hours of my day is work
This theory does not work in real life in Japan because if a native Japanese person tells the boss that they do not like you (a foreigner), it results in the consequence of being fired. It is not even considered whether it is due to lack of professional competence or any other strong reason to prove it is due to bad behavior or cost-cutting. There are many other facts that occur, and if I were to list them, the text would become very long.
@@BecomeAnything. I think this works for any software, I'm using davinci resolve but this can be applied to any editing software I think. The tip from this guy's videos has made it SOO much easier to edit and faster (this is at 02:33) but he also gives other tips but this one is the most helpful I think: th-cam.com/video/EF_Wysanmn0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GeorgeKamenov
@@BecomeAnything. Yo, do you have an IG for this youtube? I wanted to send a video but it seems the comment got taken away because it contained a link :OO
dude i fuckign love this video, great scenography. btw what type of visa do you have and how did you get it ? i want to come to Japan to, but i have no idea on how
@@matteotorcigliani Hey! He is sadly on a school visa but he really aint wanna be in school. That's why he is trying to make TH-cam work out. And as for me, I was on a student visa too but I dropped out and am now a tourist in a few days when I come back from Korea 😭😂 (Bjorn editor and filmer here) visa status and obligations is actually the #1 reason for us not uploading much recently
Yo man you absolutely inspired me a lot with this videos I'm 16 rn and I'm planning to move there for the college i have a lot of doubts of how can i do that or if can at all but i want to ask you specially some how can i stay there? I go to the college and that's it at the beginning but what about after that? Can i idk convert my visa from a student to a worker?, i have to do that in a specific time? If you can answer it would help me a lot, anyway thanks for your content
you can convert from student to worker. usually your school will act as a pretty good alibi to help you do that, and it's probably best to start thinking of where exactly you want to work 1-2 years before the visa expires and start taking steps there, because there's no telling how long it'll take. It's very possible though, I've seen people do it last minute and 2 years prior, just depends on if you know the next step or not. hope to see ya here soon !
Just stumbled across your channel.... Fabulous! Thank you very much... Been in Japan 15 years and my Japanese is next to awful... What has helped me most is, not so much the materials you use and the way to use them, but your mindset..... It really made me think and realise that despite living in japan, I'm still living in an English world (teaching.... Wife speaks English fluently so thats what we use at home... Phone, PC, devices etc etc... all set to english) So apart from watching only a small amount of TV (because Japanese TV is mostly crap) I'm actually STILL immersed in....... ENGLISH!!! Thanks again for my "Eureka!" moment 😅👍 PS..... Sorry this isn't necessarily relevant to this particular video, but ive just watched a few of your vids and on the spur of the moment had to say this 😅
yeah it's so funny because people always say like "Wow, you live in Japan? You must be fluent even if you don't want to be!" LIKE NO IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT I STILL SUCK Also ya japanese TV is uhhh definitely interesting haha thanks for sharing, it was a fun read and always gives me hope that you can live here 15 years without going insane!
when's the new video coming out man? I'm sure you know this but you gotta take advantage of all this growth your channel is seeing! it's only up from here man 💪
Find a trade, embrace the grind, find a good woman, get married young, have kids, stop feeling so lost. It's what EVERY Japanese did when concepts like "Ikigai" actually meant something.
Ikigai isn’t really a japanese mentality btw. It was coined by some English guy who wrote a book about it or something. For the japanese ikigai is just a word for something that gives your life meaning
@@BecomeAnything. haha fr I have a native japanese teacher so every now and then we get some insight on the actual japanese society and debunking of very popular myths about japanese people. Thanks for your video btw it was very entertaining, I'm still looking for my "ikigai" aswell and your video was very insightful. Also, I got some facts mixed up and it was actually the writer Héctor García who coined the term "Ikigai" in a book by the same name according to my sensei.
@@gama103 Oh that's interesting, never came across hector in my research for this video so that's good info. Wish I could go back and add that in hope you come across something you can call ikigai, having the meaning properly understood is a great first step !
I like the mullet! It´s about time for a global comeback of mullets and here is why: Mullets aren't simply a fashion statement, it's a mindest. Mullets were big in the 1980s. 80s = best time ever! If we make the mullet come back, maybe the mindset will come back and we will again have good times again like back in the 80s! Or in other words: 10 Bad times create people with mullets. 20 People with mullets create good times. 30 Good times create people without mullets. 40 Go to 10
You said you aren't sure the world needs another youtuber, but you are selling yourself short. You are not "another youtuber" You are... well I'dont know what your name is lol. But BECOME is a great name for a channel and you "wear it" well. I mean, the world does need more interconnectedness, more authenticity, more examples of people doing what they love and more inspiring, articulated and uplifting thoughts. Anyone who can muster the courage to express and share their ideas with love and creativity has found an "Ikigai contender" for sure. Don't reduce what you are doing to "just another youtube channel"! If there is something in your heart that vibrates and you love doing it, you can certainly believe that is a path worth walking, and it will naturally contribute something precious to the world. No arguments. In a way this is the optimal thing to do to be of service to the world. Doing something you love. Keep being creative! Tahnk you for sharing your thoughts, and for your help on sparking the fire! ;)
thank you for this comment, it seriously means a lot. As I continue to make videos and get better at my wordplay and cinematography I really hope I can reach a level where I can change a life or two. but what the true meaning of ikigai showed me is I don't need to enter the scene telling myself "if I don't change lives then it's not a perfect job", the best I can do is just enjoy it for what it is and hope I can make a positive impact doing so thanks again :)
@@BecomeAnything. The way I see it, we don't need to drastically change people's lives, that is like hitting a homerun, it's maximum impact. But you don,t aim for maximum impact, you aim for the ball and you swing with some spirit. Sometimes, people just need a little bunt to touch base. And minimal impact is fine. I personnally seek not to change but to enhance and complement the life around me; of course the people mostly. Then, it is truly only a question of doing something, anything, with some actual love and the result is always that : it enhances and complements the life of others. The significance of the impact is not really ours to know, it always does an impact, and we get just a small percentage of the feedback of positive impact we do. You may have already hit a homerun without knowing it. Just keep going and don't ask for your change. That is what I realised at some point, when someone told be how I impacted him positively and that he hesitated to tell me. I was just walking very consciously, and somehow that guy needed to see that or something. I thought : wow I can have that much of a positive impact without noticing. And I thought, how many people have impacted me positively but they don,t know it? Many. If you feel at the right place, then you are probably already doing more good than you know!
@@BecomeAnything. I wish I had the old footage, I must have deleted it along with the youtube channel xX_SlackerBoy_Xx 🤮. I look forward to seeing your old vids.
"some cuter twink that can speak more Japanese and doesn't have crippling social anxiety" 💀 Love the editing. Whatever you're doing it's working. Good reminder to just do what feels right and not sweat it so much. Today it might be your ikigai, tomorrow it may just be a stepping stone to an entirely different ikigai.
So, I love your fast paced speaking (and cuts) and your content has a good feel for me, but I'm noticing others comment you go too fast. So maybe forcing a slow down isn't your style, but maybe you can add more text to the videos to help people keep up with your need for speed. It seems you're already adding more visuals and I think that will help those continuing to say you're talking too fast. Hahahah As someone stuck and struggling with motivation, I am in just the right spot to make use of your content while I hammer away at Japanese (and the rest of my life). I appreciate your work! You don't have to be the best at something for your contribution to be valuable and important.
that's a good takeaway for sure ! hope I can find a balance for pacing, I would do subtitles but if I want daily then that's going to take a lot of time away. may just have to slow down a bit after all
@@BecomeAnything. Subtitles would be awesome one day. Wouldn't want you to change your style too much just to be palatable to others, but making content more accessible could be a positive for you. Just don't let this platform make you crazy(-er). lol.
Have more condense in your skills as a youtuber, when you see people like Mr.Beast's numbers it makes you think less of yours, 6000 real people watched this video, that's crazy and something you should be proud of.
thanks for the reassurance haha, I just compare myself to the big league players and always wish my videos were the same quality. I'll work to get there one day, this comment was a motivating push :)
@@BecomeAnything.In terms of actual content you beat them by a long shot. And scenes, editing and the occasional humor is awesome, this is your style, people will appreciate it. Stay true.
I see the fun has continued, and you've implemented lots from my comment earlier in the other video! Inspiring work! I thoroughly enjoyed all the creative shots you put into here! *sprite can!* I've been watching TH-cam since it first came out in 2006. I disagree with one part of the video though-I think being a TH-camr is very possible for you and that you are good at it! I mean, technically you're posting on youtube, and people are watching, so you're already a TH-camr. Maybe you mean a famous youtuber though (which is then subjective as to what level of viewers determines one to be famous)-or perhaps you mean that you're not someone that does it as a career yet? I mean, looking at any TH-camr that is popular now, can we with definity ever say when they weren't a youtuber then when they suddenly were? It's just a change in perception of themselves, but for many of them their process and videos never changed--sometimes their quality was just as good before they ever blew up. One TH-camr that comes to mind is TastingHistoryWithMaxMiller. I was watching him at below 10K subscribers. He was still the same quality. Eventually he turned down a deal from Disney when they offered to give him his own show on Disney+ so he could keep doing TH-cam his own way. It's the same with JoeScottExplains, VSauce, Mav, and Fireship. All are vastly different channels that started at different times. Usually from what I observe, with a lot of TH-camrs, it's something enjoyed as a fun obsession made with the enjoyment of creativity and telling stories in a way only you can do for your aesthetics and expression. I do feel like you're doing that. Plus, a lot of successful TH-camrs started their youtube as projects to channel their storytelling, creativity, and curiosity. Mark Rober just started his youtube while he was going to college and didn't intend to become a TH-camr at all. He realized once the videos were giving him income that maybe he could do that full time and it was a natural transition. All of Mark Rober's videos have an exact formula too: Brainstorm, Research, Prototype, Final Build. His storytelling process also unfolds along his creative engineering process. I started noticing what other youtubers gained popularity and felt similar and suspected they were using his exact formula. * * cough JLazerVideo cough * * It makes sense though because he basically made a "TH-camr academy" with his Creative Engineering course that laid out an exact formula for his style of storytelling. I bought his course out of curiosity a little while back and my feelings were spot on. I haven't implemented anything from it yet, but I bought it not intending to use it for youtube but thinking it would help me become a better artist while I was taking art classes. I wanted to showcase video-form stories as part of a virtual experience that went with a physical object I was constructing in a 3D form and design class. Essentially, I believed buying his course would refine my artistic process and the documentation of my art would become part of the art itself as a story. I didn't make it that far though. I'm often very ambitious with my ideas, but only have the bandwidth to follow through on a few of them. What little I have watched of his course has been great though and can be applied to the creative/storytelling process in general not just engineers. I'll share what I learned with you later if you'd like. Keep being you, and having fun and that's really all you need, as long as you're having fun with the relationship of life happening through you-staying open, learning-you're living freer! I'm reminded of a moment in high school when I was at track practice. We were doing sprints, and I'd often be second across the line--just behind a person in front of me. The coach pulled to the side and told me, if I stopped looking at everyone else who is running beside me to see how far ahead or behind I am, and just looked forwards, I'd be faster. I thought that was silly-what would my head position have to do with my legs' potential?? Next time I was at the starting line, I tried it. I just ran looking straight ahead as if nobody was racing with me. I was so tempted to start looking around-I had no idea if I was in front or behind and I just wanted to know where I was. However, living without looking or knowing about comparisons was the first time I crossed the finish line in front. Really, it just allowed me to run to my own potential. It doesn't even matter that I was in front or not. It moved me philosophically though once I experienced those immediate results as feedback. Often, thinking about results, or thinking about the future and comparing oneself to others or our own expectations is just like looking into the other lane, keeping ourselves from making the most of every experience we are creating now. It definitely takes the fun out of it. When you don't know how to have fun anymore, no matter how successful you get, it's not going to change that feeling of living from a place where you feel unsatisfied. It's gotten really noisy too in our hustle-grind culture that's penetrated many subtle aspects of our existence with social programming left and right across the internet that's fed to us via algorithms because the collective makes the same messages stronger and we are subject to the collective illusions of our day where one person defines an idea of happiness in their head. Even if that person isn't happy, but they have social validation with a lot of followers canonizes their viewpoint-suddenly it's now everyone else's idea of happiness and how to get happiness-even when it's something that might not really make them happy. It's nice, to just be reminded that no matter what, where we are now is perfectly alright already. The ability we have to relax and enjoy where we are and enjoy the natural change and progress of life doesn't change no matter how many more goals we reach or pile on to try and satisfy that itch. That is the itch of unification of spirit within ourselves. It never comes from outside, but the reclections of life can change us to better see ourselves through our pleasure or tradgedies and the changes of life in between that constantly ebb and flow. To me, that has meant recognizing the inherent completion in the experience of consciousness itself. When you peel back the glamor or tragedy of anyone's life, the experience of being human in many aspects is strikingly similar--to feel emotions, to try and act according to what you believe will bring you happiness, to wrestle with the meaning of your own existence and how to navigate the feelings and emotions we experience, and the uncertainty of living with no inherent answers in a world that doesn't fit together perfectly nor have any definite answers. The fear of change-death itself can be subdivided into many specific patterns of worry about the human experience-many of them social such as worrying about specific actions and behaviors we did or the way others around us are reacting/validating/showing us love in the way we value. The certainty of death will wash over every person regardless of their income or success, and after a few generations their memory will be washed away by time. In that lucidity of the smallness of one's life and the inherent meaningless, it illuminates the value of what is truly worth wile in every moment to enjoy and live fully-and ultimately how every moment is very meaningful in the same way a flower's beauty is so precious because of it's ephemeral nature. These day's I'm more complete with my own temporality and can appreciate the beauty of my consciousness as ever changing since I have experienced myself changing so much from a child to a teenager, and now crossing over to an adult. The experiences of who I am now is a different person than who I was. The same is for everyone but we forget that we used to be a toddler that was a vastly different person than we were in other points in our life and that we will keep on changing and become someone else entirely. The person I am to be who will pass on from this body will also be different than who I am now. Naturally, I have already died as a person several times already just by changing in life period and maturity and the person I am now doesn't worry about that change like I did when I was a teenager. There's many things we don't control, and if we can't control it, why worry about it, there is nothing to be gained from that. The meaning of ikegai is beautiful. Life happens through you--It feels very Wu-Wei and close-at-heart to the philosophies of Zen Buddhism. Also, I haven't replied to your previous response to me on your other video, but I saw it and thought about your response. I can give more concise and constructive feedback that is a lot better. Tbh, I wish I had spent more time on my previous comment, so it was even more helpful to you. I also would like to share more feedback of everything that's really strong in your videos, and I am curious as to what parts of the process you're having fun with when you're making them. Give me some time though, it's making me excited now to see you growing-I want to take my time with specific feedback if you'd like that. If you can-I don't know how to yet-please sent me a private message on youtube, and we can exchange info to communicate on whatsapp or skype or something. I may be able to also send you resources that I have gathered in my years of doing videography with custom transitions or stuff if you use Final Cut Pro and want them. Tbh, these last few days, it's been quite fun watching your videos and checking when you've seen my comments. I'm also happy to report I'm going strong on my Japanese. I'm #1 on the Duolingo Japanese Silver League with over 4000 XP points in the last 4 days. I'm going ham on my Japanese training now, really only because I'm enjoying it so much. Ikegai bruh! 😍
Woah I was genuinely very surprised by the contents of this comment. You being an artist taking inspiration from TH-cam is an interesting concept in itself. Most of my inspiration from TH-cam comes from TH-cam itself, but seeing how you can transform media through different mediums is a really interesting concept. If I can ever reach a level of fluidity where I can take inspiration from music and film and put that into videos that would be one of the most interesting things I've ever done. There's a lot more to the comment that I'd like to touch on but that idea stuck out in terms of what i can apply. I'll try and figure out PMs on TH-cam but if you don't hear anything soon just reply with ur discord and I'll delete it once I've seen the message. Seeing how you have a lot of experience in introspection and also in the sphere of TH-cam I'd love to pick your brain honestly. If PMs work you'll see me there
@@BecomeAnything. I can't wait to see what you make through transforming media through your inspirations from music and film. It will be better if I don't use the comments section for longer discussions and video feedback. It will be more efficient on another platform. Okay. Here's how we can do this since my previous comments didn't make it through. I updated my channel so it has my discord user in my about at the top. You'll just have to click the "...more" button at the top of my channel to see it. I'll retype some of my other comment that somehow didn't make it through: If that's your takeaway, that's amazing. So many artists, creators, and architects translate their experience from one form of inspiration to another and that creates uniqueness. Frank Gehry, one of the most famous architects of our generation, was inspired by paintings. He made his architecture to express the paintings he liked and wished he could be a painter, but his works changed architecture itself forever. I recommend the book Steal Like An Artist if you haven't read it before. It's really short--only about 20 pages or so of the clearest, consisist wisdom on creativity I've ever seen. Since you have a variety of unique interests you can start expressing the feelings and experiences they give you through youtube as a medium. Practicing creative fluidity is one of my inspirations for living. Pick my brain whenever you want. I enjoy how educated and thoughtful you are with your topics. Congratulations on making it past the 1000 subs club! We need more of your videos >:)
Cant comment on ikigai, but people who retire have their life and capacity go downhill quickly. I intend to work until I die. Doing undergraduate atm and have been improving japanese speaking since had n2 equiv. This is partially because I live in Australia and have always wanted to work with baseball but it is not really a thing here. Japan has options as a school teacher to do youth baseball in more rural areas as a student club head activity. My undergrad is sports science and i have been checking out the japanese literature while I study(albeit confusing). If I decide I want to pursue moving to Japan I will probably do a fast teaching qualification andngo through Jet or engl8sh teacher work....
retirement just sounds like a conveyer belt to your death, I don't want the last years of my life to move that quick. that's why it's so important to find something you are willing to do, otherwise life kinda just flies right by you yeah the hardest part of moving to Japan is finding a means to get here and live here tbh. once you get that down it's a world of opportunities tho
Hi whats up what can i say about myself I'm tired of being isolated and there's nothing to do here only play video games and watching TH-cam all the day and i always wanted to travel to japan my dreams is to live in japan i never been to japan in my whole life but I'll take years of planning to move to another country I'm sick of being in my own country which is sucks is boring
I was in the same exact spot, and that's exactly why I came here. if you can figure out what visa you're willing to get to live here, the dream is totally possible, i moved here when i was 16 because I hated my life back home for similar reasons. just know it's possible and life here will probably be completely different for ya
A Zen diagram would have been better for explaining this concept (It's a blank sheet of paper). Trust the Western mind to over-complicate things. I love your videos, though. 'The 5 Stages of Learning Japanese' was a banger.
Don't worry with medical advances by the time your 95 you will still be able to work and they will probably have already eliminated Social Security. お疲れ様でした
Honestly, Ikigai may not always work…luck has a lot to do with it. What if one day your health turns for the worst? It really destroys whatever drive you have. Sure, one may strive to live a healthy lifestyle to help maintain your goal. But It happened to me… One bloody covid jab from the government, gets cancer, and then what?
everyone in their essence within their inerself have their own colour their own spice and that's what makes every individual unique. of course its no secret there's always someone better than you at what you do, even world records don't last for ever and eventually someone does "better" but they will never truely replace you because there is only one single original edition of you. what you make yourself with passion has that extra taste you wont find anywhere else like those recipes that taste like home and make you feel at home whereever you are don't doubt yourself its a waste of time we enjoy your homemade bread otherwise we woundn't be here and honestly its more about if you enjoy making it
that's a very good outlook on the concept. everybody has their unique experience that can never truly be replicated or truly communicated, which is a curse yet a blessing as it allows us to create something unique. that's what youtube is to me, it's my favorite outlet for my life experience
Maybe the real ikigai is the friends we made along the way
my point exactly never underestimate the power of friendship

that means a lot to hear! glad it reached you somehow
mate, you're video is soo high quality! the shots look awesome, the music is nice and the content is inspiring and thought provoking :)
thank you so much ! I'm just striving for better and better so can't wait to give you even higher quality in the future
I'm 62. I have no plans of ever retiring. I was injured at a previous job and couldn't work for almost 3 years. It showed me kind of what retirement would be like. It was fun the first month but then it became a struggle just to find something to do. I started back to work in 2013 and I enjoy it more than I used to.
that's awesome, i think the whole world got a taste of that during the pandemic too. glad to see you got a job your passionate about !
2:55 YES I need your content. Your words are very insightful and only your unique experience and mindset can convey them.
So happy you liked it. Actually really makes us happy.
As a youth worker we often have to help teenagers under so much pressure to decide what they wanna do for the rest of their lives that they're omega stressed and depressed. I tell them to just fuckin chill and enjoy life, take their time figuring it out, try a bunch of different things. If that takes a decade more, who cares. life's too short to be stuck in a job or doing something that you just don't enjoy.
yeah exactly !! and you can see that with ikigai, they turned some very simple idea into a routine where you need to find the perfect job for you
as someone who was a teenager just a little while ago you are absolutely right society pressures youth in na countries to have your whole life figured out when you graduate highschool but we dont have to rush work odd jobs figure it out take your time and find something fulfilling and meaningful to you
I don’t know what’s more fascinating the way you can hold the thought/phrase until each new location or the amount of microphones that you used
i will double the amount of microphones next video
Ever since I got interested in Japan, the one thing that got me so hooked on Japanese people is how they look at work-not as a job but as a way of life. Thank you for showing me what ikigai is.
I have also been struggling with the idea of what to do moving forward. I never saw myself working a 9 to 5, and with COVID destroying my confidence and creating an environment for me to get anxiety, this year, by picking up a new hobby and trying to acquire Japanese, it feels like the first year that I have control over my life.
I hope all the best for your channel and any future endeavors. (Sorry for the long read, I never comment on videos normally, but this video made me feel like I needed to comment and you remind me of my best friend.) ❤
that means a lot ! thanks for sharing all of this , the lockdown was a very big reset for me too and I can relate to a lot this, id rather be homeless than work 9-5 tbh
once I realized that life doesn't come "at" me, I found it easier to do the things I want to and took more control of everything that happened.
hope the best comes your way !
woah that is a really good line at the end, made me stop and think for a second
i appreciate the support tho! i have absolutely no intentions of stopping and if this is what you wanna do i hope to see you grow too
The ending really hits home
glad i could make ya feel something!

didn't even notice that haha I'll make sure I keep doing it in the future
Dude your videos are relatable, down to earth, inspiring and hella entertaining. Videos like this make my very weird goal of learning Japanese and moving to Japan seem not so out there and attainable.
that means a lot to hear ! glad I was able to make a positive influence. people seem to naturally tend to think some things are less attainable than they really are too, so seriously glad i could inspire you :)

Stumbled across you couple of months ago, must say you have a bright future, definetely keep going! Awesome content!!
glad you're enjoying! hope you stick around :)
That may have been the case with me, I guess we'll see in the long run, lol
Sorry for Much Text I normally don't comment at all on things but that had a big impression on me so I figured I'd say something....

I'll read those books one day if my attention span lets me
I'm COOKING some videos right now trust me the missed day is not only gonna get compensated but we're going in hot now
Glad i came across you early, 700 subs in a day is crazy, keep up the great videos
thank you for being here early !
Just discoverd your channel. Love your content!
Thank you for watching!!!!
Unreal video, super clever and you have a knack for cinematics.
Thank you!
Just wow. You're deadass smart for analyzing and packing so much information in roughly over 6 minutes (and being a fast talker, lol). I had to replay the last few sentences to actually get the words straight. I got the meaning the first time, but didn't understand it until rewatching 10 times (mainly not because you were talking too fast, but because there was so much truth in so few words.)
ya I started slowing down my speaking after this video haha
Hey your first vid was awesome - the amount of effort it went in was quite visible! Some of the effects and drawing used did remind me of that guy that doodles on vids and is epic! Just keep up the good work mate, I'm sure it'll pay off :3
Anyway, Ikigai is a cool concept - but probably not for everyone. It's good to see fresh takes on it though! Also I do appreciate the rapid fire commentary a lot xD
thank you ! it did take a lot of work I will admit lol
now I'm curious, who's this other supposed epic doodle youtuber?

Great content, I watch everything you put out, I really love your stuff!
Wow it's crazy that somebody watches everything, I'm glad you like it. Makes me want to make the future content better, thanks for being a supporter !
I found your you tube channel yesterday and love all your musings . The photography is brillant too. well done !!
thank you! glad youre enjoying the vids :)
Please, slow down, breathe, leave space so the viewer can absorb what you have to say.
I didn't realize I was speaking so fast until it was all recorded. Working to find the balance between that and how to keep viewers attention right now...
thanks for the feedback tho ! Will try and make the next video better
The current speed is good.
Me watching on 2x: 🗿

YES LETS GO THATS THE POINT
I wish I could speak as fast as you. 😮
I heard about Ikigai last year and I am very interested in finding my own Ikigai because I see no meaning in my life, at least I would have this.
Love your editing, colour balance, angles, how you speak (I thought I forgot to turn off 1.5 speed). I wish you good luck! 🎉
haha I speak way too fast for some people so hope it was intelligible
you don't need anything crazy to find your meaning in life, sometimes it can just be something to take care of, or something you wanna get good at. that's all ikigai means.

For the japanese nerds out here, ikigai is a combination of the words
生き - Human life
甲斐 - Worth/Effect
生き甲斐 - Reason for living

I have to admit I still don't get it, but the style of your video was pretty funny. I don't know anything about being a youtuber, but I think you have a unique thing going on. Subscribed.
Haha it's a confusing script even for me. glad you liked it anyway though, means a lot that you subbed regardless

IKIGAI JUST CHANGED MY LIFE
ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER EMOJI 🔥
Well said and wisely put, I appreciate you clarifying Ikigai for us and deconstructing the false interpretation
What you iterated to us does seem to capture more of the essence of Ikigai than what that chart does.
So, basically, the meaning in life…
There’s a theory in psychology that having meaning in life is incredibly important.
@@BecomeAnything. glad to be of help ^_^
I think that book helped to point me to one of the reasons why I was depressed at one point. But it’s also pretty common to have an existential crisis in your teens to early 20s (which is where I was at at that point).

Phone, PC, devices etc etc... all set to english)
So apart from watching only a small amount of TV (because Japanese TV is mostly crap) I'm actually STILL immersed in....... ENGLISH!!!

PS..... Sorry this isn't necessarily relevant to this particular video, but ive just watched a few of your vids and on the spur of the moment had to say this 😅

Mullets aren't simply a fashion statement, it's a mindest. Mullets were big in the 1980s. 80s = best time ever!
If we make the mullet come back, maybe the mindset will come back and we will again have good times again like back in the 80s!
Or in other words:
10 Bad times create people with mullets.
20 People with mullets create good times.
30 Good times create people without mullets.
40 Go to 10
I am a time traveler from the 80s

Tahnk you for sharing your thoughts, and for your help on sparking the fire! ;)
thank you for this comment, it seriously means a lot.
As I continue to make videos and get better at my wordplay and cinematography I really hope I can reach a level where I can change a life or two. but what the true meaning of ikigai showed me is I don't need to enter the scene telling myself "if I don't change lives then it's not a perfect job", the best I can do is just enjoy it for what it is and hope I can make a positive impact doing so
thanks again :)
"making Skylanders content on a 3DS camera" I thought I was the only one that used to do this 😂
no way I wasn't the only one wtf
I still have the footage too, will def show it one day when the time is right haha

Love the editing.
Whatever you're doing it's working. Good reminder to just do what feels right and not sweat it so much. Today it might be your ikigai, tomorrow it may just be a stepping stone to an entirely different ikigai.
Haha glad you liked the video and that the message came through to somebody !

I won't forget you. And rest in peace doge 😭
Hahahah
As someone stuck and struggling with motivation, I am in just the right spot to make use of your content while I hammer away at Japanese (and the rest of my life).

EEKY BUT KNOWLEDGE
I see the fun has continued, and you've implemented lots from my comment earlier in the other video! Inspiring work! I thoroughly enjoyed all the creative shots you put into here! *sprite can!*
I've been watching TH-cam since it first came out in 2006.
If PMs work you'll see me there
@@BecomeAnything. my comments don't seem to make it through when im replying to this. maybe youtube is blocking them :/
@@BecomeAnything.
I'll retype some of my other comment that somehow didn't make it through:
If that's your takeaway, that's amazing.
If I decide I want to pursue moving to Japan I will probably do a fast teaching qualification andngo through Jet or engl8sh teacher work....
retirement just sounds like a conveyer belt to your death, I don't want the last years of my life to move that quick. that's why it's so important to find something you are willing to do, otherwise life kinda just flies right by you
yeah the hardest part of moving to Japan is finding a means to get here and live here tbh. once you get that down it's a world of opportunities tho
cool video I learned a lot. ngl you kinda look irish
I have no idea what my ancestry is but another comment just asked if I was Finnish lmao
I was in the same exact spot, and that's exactly why I came here. if you can figure out what visa you're willing to get to live here, the dream is totally possible, i moved here when i was 16 because I hated my life back home for similar reasons. just know it's possible and life here will probably be completely different for ya
nah you cooked with this youtube video

everyone in their essence within their inerself have their own colour their own spice and that's what makes every individual unique. of course its no secret there's always someone better than you at what you do, even world records don't last for ever and eventually someone does "better" but they will never truely replace you because there is only one single original edition of you. what you make yourself with passion has that extra taste you wont find anywhere else like those recipes that taste like home and make you feel at home whereever you are
don't doubt yourself its a waste of time we enjoy your homemade bread otherwise we woundn't be here
and honestly its more about if you enjoy making it
that's a very good outlook on the concept. everybody has their unique experience that can never truly be replicated or truly communicated, which is a curse yet a blessing as it allows us to create something unique. that's what youtube is to me, it's my favorite outlet for my life experience
