you know what pisses me off Yes they have business people to get the drugs and they are looked up to with respect running around in posh cars and wearing the best clothes and the drug addicts (my son was one) was looked down on as if he had leprosy .The hell this put me his mother through was and still is a nightmare as it is for him as he has lost family who wont have anything to do with him . So very very sad. Those at the top are the lowest of the low not the junkies they are vulnerable people who get hooked and end up robbing etc to feed the habit. their life is over really as they dont just lose respect of family they lose their soul. I met Curtis once.
I had an argument with him about a car parking space. I was 5ft 11’ and skinny as a rake. Cocky’s neck was bigger than my thighs! I didn’t know who he was but I was angry and gave him a right mouthful.
Curtis never flinched, he just backed down, was very polite and moved his car.
My mates waiting in the car nearby were all laughing saying “do you know who that was”..I saw a pic of Curtis a few months later in the Echo and it really was him.
I don’t know you Curtis but if you ever read this, thanks for not reacting & kicking the sh*t out of me! Seriously I was younger then and I admit, was well out of order, so whatever anyone says about you, respect to you!

I was born in Liverpool, lived next door to another notorious Lpool family (Fitzgibbon's) they were pretty thick, Warren wasn't, he dressed down, lived an onoxious exsitence and kept a low profile but like all gangsters he was sold out by his crew (or his associates) Glennon/Bennett/Hass...the Ungis (this was the turf war 95-97) for me personally it's a sad indictment to Liverpool that these lowlives exist as a working class person this type of criminality doesn't have to be a final option, it's a choice hence why they don't deserve approbation but derision.

The cocky watchman, great read for anyone interested in this story, government have done experimental trial providing heroin to addicts in a number of areas in the uk to see if it effected the crime rates, they said at the time they would roll it out if it were a success, it was a massive success bringing crime down by up to 80% in some areas, they've done this twice now i believe but haven't rolled it out, the amount of lives wrecked not because of the drugs but because of the money is outrageous for what is at the end of the day no different to drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes is really annoying and quite sad, just think of the prisons no longer needed or its staff & the police they wouldn't need to police these crimes, that really is a double standard, it's just a matter of time as it clearly works everywhere its been tried it's been a success, it's probably not changed because of the massive industry behind it!

    • @technomickdocumentalist2495

That's why they won't do it, if they roll it out ( which I am 100% behind BTW ). There would be too many lost jobs from the present infrastructure.
I've been on methadone for about 19 years, and have been an on and off heroin and crack for over 20 years, I'll be honest more off than on, I don't have a criminal record etc, but the times I've been bad, it's my family that have took the brunt, and if they legalized and prescribed medicinal heroin I'd go to that and come off the methadone.

The money was all over the place .. nearly 30 years have passed .. I bet the majority of it has drifted away .. tied up in property in other peoples names businesses and company’s stocks and shares .. back then you could do as you please .. today you it’s completely different .. lot of people walking around worth a lot of money on paper thanks to him .. a proper spiders web .. but a very dangerous vipers nest

I've read that book a few times. Very good book but he got some the facts wrong in the book but being from Manchester myself and already knowing about a lot of the people and stories in the book i could just piece the facts together myself to make sense out of what he got mixed up with other people/incidents.

When talking about the phone tapping and the issues with slang I’m surprised he didn’t mention it was also the fact they used scouse back slang as well as standard uk slang which meant an officer from Liverpool who knew how to speak it had to travel to Holland to help them out as even the English officers who were there were struggling with it.

Back then I remember my big cousin who has unfortunately been killed now. I was a teenager and I remember that Liverpool had so much heroin and cocaine that when they found out that he was a large dealer. I was there when he was on the old first mobiles Vodafone flipphone and he come off the phone shocked and though he had a few quid he never had cash for what they they were offering and couldn't believe how cheap and the scousers never really knew us and were throwing kilos and kilos and when you broke it down to ounces of heroin that was £900 at the time were we are from and after breaking it to ounces it worked out £300 to £350 depending on the strength. So after my cousins first pick up laid on he was able to pay up front after his first time.
Can anyone remember when the there was 3 or 4 celtic v Liverpool testimonials happened just after 2000 I was down with my dad to Liverpool for a game. But I will never forget that they had so many testimonials. I found out by my cousin that each testy game busses was packed with drugs and I don't know to this day but people said that the games then was intentional for drug runs and I remember after a bust the heroin was 83% pure
