Great Conductor and Orchestra. This concert was fabulous. Brahms created one of the best symphonies.
The third movement is the most beautiful movement I have ever heard!

It is sooo beautful. Have you seen the 1946 movie Undercurrent ? They use the 3rd movement as the " theme music " throughout.

The third movement always breaks my heart
In the fourth year in music school, Dr. Murphy analyzed this piece with us. We spent a whole semester with this symphony. Each movement, each bar, each theme & motive, front to back, vertically and horizontally. Listening to this is like seeing an old friend. I realize now, I am very lucky to be knowing this great piece. I like this recording the most, the conductor kept a great tempo in each movement, truly brought out all the under current and emotion. Brahms’ pain and suffers has not gone in vain, it’s all here. Thanks Brahms, thanks Clara.

@@jospenner9503 It's easy to suspect that indeed they were. Johannes was in love with both Robert his mentor and beloved teacher in many respects...and Clara whom he admired and loved in private. But the passing of Robert in 1856...left little room for an eternal platonic love between the two survivors. It is more than certain that Johannes and Clara, after a very respectful period of grief, allowed themselves to find each other's arms. BUT and this is a very strong BUT Clara was constantly touring even as her husband was locked up in the Institution were he willingly commited himself. And she tourred all thru the 60s, 70s and 80s. So if there was a Passion between the two...it was certainly anything but domestic and tranquil...as Johannes' reputation was also travelling across Europe...and so was constantly growing. Therefore...i think we are looking at romantic platonic musical love...that for all i know...she might have also shared with Joseph Joachim. Joseph Joachim was the genius behind Brahms splendid Instrumental Colours. He was akin to Maurice Ravel...a genius with a Palette for Orchestration. Maybe we have ourselves...a part-time Lover's Triangle of touring Stars in the 19th C. Who knows ? I doubt that even after reading the hundreds of letters ALL of them educated Socialites wrote to one another...we would find any indiscrete allusions to this. So, let's leave it to respectful imagination. They were just like us, hungry...but nobody could travel faster than Horse Carriage power. So the Fast Life was very much slower back then. Cheers.

Sure. Just think how many lived before this has been composed... :) I have this habit, to wonder if Eminescu (best Romanian poet) could know/see/hear something (music or object, whatever). If yes, that is old. If not, it is too new...
You must realise that there are musical gems you will never find, no matter how hard you look for.
The Brahms 3rd is the hardest of his 4 symphonies to interpret, IMO. Maestro Orozco-Estrada's interpretation is as close to perfection as I have ever heard. And the playing is absolutely superb. One of the very best TH-cam concerts available. If you love Brahms, you must watch this video.

Dvořak loved Brahms 3d symphony and said it's better than the first two.... Dvořák to Simrock, October 1883: “I was in Vienna these days, where I spent beautiful days with Dr. Brahms, who has just arrived with Wiesbaden. I have never found him in such a cheerful mood. We were together every day at noon and in the evening, and we talked about a lot of things. (...) He immediately granted my wish to hear something from his new Symphony and played me its first and last movement. I say and do not exaggerate that this work of his first symphonies prevails, although perhaps not in size and powerful concept - certainly in beauty! (...) “Two months later, Dvořák is present at the Viennese premiere of this Brahms Third, and he immediately travels to Berlin for his work. Dvořák to Simrock, January 1, 1884: “I hear here in Prague that the Brahms Symphony, which I am looking forward to as a child, will be played in January. If you write me when it will be, I will come immediately ... ”The Berlin performance took place at the end of January and soon after Dvořák began writing his Seventh Symphony in D minor: he began to write it with a determination to give the world something very special that would surpass its current symphonic creation and what would match Brahms in his eyes.

You're not the only one... It's because this 3rd movement is a true master piece in my humble opinion... the orchestration, the melody and harmony... it touches us right to the heart.
Thats Brahms for you! I have loved this symphony since I was 17, started to listen to the other three and now in my late sexties I know them all by heart. This music gives me goosebumps overall! Glad you found it!

Amen - beautifully done! The whole buildup to that climax is hands down my favorite passage of music in any genre by any composer. Brahms has been under my skin since I was 3 years old, 66 years ago.

That abrupt sweep into the purest and sweetest and most rarified something that's ineffable and defies description at 19:57 is the most amazing things in all music ever composed. I've listened to this symphony hundreds of times over the past 50+ years. How I would love to know what Papa Brahms thought of there. It breaks and heals the heart at the same time.
23:37 Poco allegretto. That horn followed by the oboes and the viola plucking strings... just strikes by heart so hard. Than the clarinet and bassoon. The whole orchestra coming together to express that bittersweet feeling of having great love so close but so out of reach.

Check out his circle; there's a lot of composers that took inspiration from the same source (wouldn't call them "Brahmsians" necessarily, as that suggests they copied Brahms, which would be unfair). I'm talking of Fuchs, Dietrich, Herzogenberg, Draeseke (to some extent), and perhaps most of all Gernsheim.

A wretched performance by a usually reliable Maestro. (Never liked Solti"s rendering either).
Choppy in places, and often too fast, with frustrating elisions.
Ladies and gentlemen : this is the very authentic Third Symphony of Herr Johannes Brahms. Karajan, Abbado, Mutti with other magnificent orchestras also, of course, are great, very great... So HR Radio Frankfurt Sinfonie, so so perfect!!! Mr. Orozco-Estrada must have studied it on deep and rehearsed intensively with all these extraordinare musicians, all of them wonderful soloists as they have demonstrated during this pandemic. With such professionals an outstanding conductor can not fail. And here is the proof.

This symphony is the most graceful of Brahms’s works and of all symphonies! Estrada never disappoints, nor the orchestra: the cascade and layerings in movement 3 is unintelligibly ethereal. 😌

Obviously this whole piece is just sublime, but those two parts are just impossible to describe to me. What a wonderful symphony, and talented orchestra.

Oh those wind solos. Especially the Clarinet. And the motifs in this music? Pure Brahms. Pure genius. Delicious. Excellent performance all.
The dynamics in this performance are truly awesome. A wonderful interpretation by one of the top three orchestras in the world today.

Now, I have to wish to go to Frankfurt to hear the symphony in person before I am too old to travel. What a find on TH-cam to be able to watch the orchestra perform in such a passionate and artistic atmosphere. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to experience such a beauty, otherwise I would not have been able to. My late uncle was a flutist, and any time the flute sounds above other instruments, it is as if I am listening to him. Thank you for that reminder, however bittersweet it may be.

I can't believe how much I love this symphony! I've heard the 3rd movement countless times of course but it's a shame it took me this long to discover the rest. Every single movement is astonishing and melodically enthralling.

I did not like Brahms previously, except for his hungarian dances. But this music is molten Gold!! It reminds of olden memories, and deep emotions, and he has now become one of my favorite composers. What a beautiful symphony, played by a fantastic orchestra!! KUDOS!!
The thing about Brahms is, no music rewards repeated listening more than his. There are so many beautiful details woven into his structures that always relate to each other, and he conceals them so subtly that you don't notice the first time you hear them.

There is something little to be proud of as a German: We have 130 Orchestras in our Land ! And besides this interpretation is very very powerful, gripping, romantically happy and as I know Brahms interpretations very touching. Thank to all this brilliant musicians of one of the few Broadcast Stations orchestras left in Germany the one and only hr (Hessischer Rudfunk) - Sinfonieorchester.
But what a pity it is that you barely find Germans nowadays who take an interest in classical music.

@@max_kl Oh I couldn't say. It is very difficult to give any numerical estimate without having any data. But from my own experiences in Germany and in other parts of the world, I do not think it is unreasonable to say that today's youth does not really have the disposition nor the temperament to enjoy classical music. Contemporary popular music, which young men and women really seem to enjoy, strikes me as quite barbarous and crude. This, I believe, is especially true of contemporary rap music, which is loaded with expletives of every kind, and has next to no melody. I had higher hopes from Germany because of its very rich musical tradition, but, alas, I found that globalization is all too real, and I was not able to discern any real difference between the youth of America and the youth of Europe.

Third Movement is a delicate composition that I never hear!!!!! This Third Movement is a Adagio "Poco Allegretto", The Best, of the Best!!!! When I hear this movement I feel very well, my soul up to the Heaven!!!!
Those multiple microphones on the ceiling probably explain the great sound quality of these videos.
The sound quality is great as you say. If you go to any of the Warsaw Philharmonic’s broadcasts (an equally fine orchestra) you will hear probably the best engineered sound available on Y.T.

Tanta pasión en una interpretación no es fácil de lograr. Y no hacen falta dictadores como Von Karajan, Mutti, o, de la vieja guardia como Toscanini o Fürtwangler. Es suficiente con amor a la música perfecta como Abbado y el aquí presente Orozco-Estrada, el milagro de Viena. Y, por supuesto, un grupo de solistas como son todos sus integrantes.
Basta escuchar sus presentaciones durante la pandemia. Danke viel HR FRANKFURT SINFONIE!!

The third movement has such a haunting beauty to it.
Each time it's played by the celli, violins, french horn, and the woodwinds, it carries a deep melancholy mood.

One of my favorite symphonies and beautiful performance. The only critique I have is for one particular spot of camera work. The 3rd movement starts, the cellos have their biggest moment of glory, and the camera is focused squarely on the backs of their heads. I love how animated the orchestra became in the energetic last movement.

Same thing happened to me fifty years ago! My father who loved Brahms told me to start listening to number three. I was knocked out, learned to appreciate the other symphonies also but my heart belongs to the third❤️🩹

Fabulous performance. The oboe entry in the second movement is always lovely, but is heavenly in this version and the conductor obviously loves this moment too. The sudden crescendo from the brass in the final movement at the end of the first statement of the theme was another good moment, quite hair raising!

I agree. But after focusing nicely on the woodwind at the start of the movement, the director misses the oboe solo and switches to the conductor. Such a pity to deprive the oboist of his moment of glory.
Frankfurt is one of Europe’s finest orchestras right now. I go for their high quality recordings before others.

Brahms 4th symphony is my favourite of his symphonies but I love the 3rd movement of this symphony. The first time I heard it and not knowing the composer, i thought (in my limited Classical Music knowledge) that it was one of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances.

Great sound- The old Curmdgeon Johannes would approve! The passion and fluidity of the conductor seem to inspire something special from the orchestra; not simply going through the motions, as all techinally accomplished musicians could if in auto pilot mode .
I love this (And many more) concertos.
The professionalism of the orchestra is, without, phenomenal .
