Masha Ray - Eye Candy

Were it not for the fact that I had forgotten to leave a USB stick in my car to play some of my favourite music, I would not have switched on the radio the day that I first got to hear "Eye Candy" by Masha Ray". Featured by one of my lesser favourite DJs who failed to provide details of the track he had just played, it would be another two years, and thanks to a Rieker footwear TV commercial, before I learned the name and artist of this catchy toe-tapping electro-swing number.
The artists are a Berlin based singer-producer duo consisting of Ukrainian vocalist Masha and trumpet-player and DJ, Roman Andor who met while at a songwriter camp in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. What I consider makes this duo so special is that they embrace their music cultures and tastes to produce modern vocal recreations of sounds and tempos that swept the world a century ago. Making use of modern technology that enhances drums, strings, bass and wind section backing their performances, their fresh take on "vintage" sounds, which also includes Masha's recordings of Jewish songs of her heritage, is a joy.
The delightful "Eye Candy" was written by Masha and Roman under the names Maria Raykhman and Roman Andor Krotil.
