    I am glad 2020 has a table with the 83% rule. Now all I have to do is remember to apply it👍🏽💥⚡️

    So the 83% rule is only apply to the single-phase feeding to single dwelling unit, right?? I got little bit confuse, because those questions about the 83% rule do not say that single dwelling unit is feeding by one phase....If the dwelling unit is supplied by two or more phase power, it won't apply this 83% rule, right? Hope you got my question....or do I dwell on the little details?

      Great question brother! It's talking about single phase Transformers consisting of two Hots and a neutral

    • @sf6213
      @sf6213 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ElectricalCodeCoach So, you mean these two hots are come from one phase? I got this confuse because usually I deal with those single house which are supplied by two phases and one neutral, which means it is not fit for this 83 rule, right? thanks.

    • @ElectricalCodeCoach
      @ElectricalCodeCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would apply to that scenario, regular homes are served from a single phase Transformer.
      That single phase Transformer produces 2x 120v legs.
      The A and B of that panel are both being served from the single phase Transformer.
      We do not get multiple phases until we get to 3 phase or a true two phase system

    Since there are rules to apply to test questions like, unless the question is specifically asking for aluminum conductors you otherwise default back to copper. Is this one of those tricky things that is asked for or do you always apply the 83%? It seems that these tests are designed to boot you off course.
    Thank you

      Great question! They are definitely designed to mess you up!! the only time I apply the .83 rule when actually testing is if it says the word service or feeder for an entire dwelling unit!

    Is there a book that gives us just and only just the new changes for the different year of the NEC book instead of rereading the code book all over again?

      Great question! There are several companies that do them but this is the best
      amzn.to/30HlsPA
      It's called the analysis of change 2017 NEC.

    A 40 Amp appliance has a bad splice with a resistance of .5 ohms. How much power is lost? Answer 800 watts.
    How did they come up with this number?

    I may be wrong but i thought we size the wire based on the load not the OCPD? Can you explain when that changes?

    • @ElectricalCodeCoach
      @ElectricalCodeCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct, only when you get over 800 amps does the wire have to meet or exceed the overcurrent protection

    • @shawnidavis1305
      @shawnidavis1305 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. So would that change the last answer to D instead of C? I really just want to get it right on my exam. I take it in January

    • @ElectricalCodeCoach
      @ElectricalCodeCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the question you are talking about we are using the 83 rule for services and feeders 100-400 amps
      You use the size service as a base and then multiply the size of the overcurrent device by .83 and that is your new "load" to size the wire by. Take a min a watch it over and you will se what i am talking about! if you need more help please let me know!!!

    10:55 The load is 855 amps and 800 kcmil x 2 is good for 980 amps, but you said it's not enough. Am I missing something?

    • @ElectricalCodeCoach
      @ElectricalCodeCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! When you exceed 800 amps, the ampacity of the wire has to meet or exceed the overcurrent protection.
