Fun video! GREAT job showing the differences on those bb tools. My guess is the silver one is irregular. It should have fit both sides like the black one. .. At around 29 minutes, that bb cup shouldn't need a wrench until you get to the very end to tighten it down. Typically, when they're hard to tighten like that, I would take the frame to a bike shop with a thread chaser and have the threads cleaned. Otherwise, you risk stripping the frame threads and/or the bb cup threads. But it looked like you got it done! .. Regarding Kev's question at 39 minutes about the chainline - The chainring you removed appeared to be a 'narrow-wide' chainring, designed for single chainring up front and a cassette in the back, it helps so the chain doesn't pop off when the chainline is way off (which will happen when you're switching really low or high up on the cassette). You might be fine with the chainring you installed, if you're riding mostly slow and on non-bumpy roads. But the chain could jump off the chainring. If that keeps happening, you can install a "bike chain guide" (search on Amazon) on the seat tube. They look a little silly, but they work well if installed properly. BUT, it looks like that seat tube is not round, so you might have to shop around to find one that will clamp on properly. Of course, you could get a narrow-wide chainring, or install the one that came with the bike, and it should work most of the time. I have a 1x (front) 10 speed (rear), and even with a narrow-wide chainring, it still jumps off occasionally if I jump off a curb or something. But when I used to have the chain guide installed, it never came off. .. Okay, I see the chain got stuck later in the video. 10-speed chains are thinner between the links than single speed. So your chainring teeth are too thick. Also, that chain doesn't look like a normal 10-speed chain. Personally, I would put a narrow-wide chainring on (designed for 10-speed), and a new 10-speed chain from KMC or whatever. .. The bolt pattern on the chainring doesn't matter for your sticking problem, it's just the sprocket is 1/8 design, and the chain is thinner.
That’s my man, coming in clutch with the bike mechanic knowledge! Thanks man! We can always count on you to set us straight! Bernie bought a narrow/wide chainring and used a 4 spoke spider and we got it to work fine the other day! I will share with him about getting a proper chain though. Appreciate you taking the time to give us all this info!! Thanks brother!!
@@cruisinginthe808 Your chain might be fine. I thought it was a 10 speed, but I saw in a comment below that it's a 9 speed. A 10 speed chain will fit on a 9 speed cassette, but it's a little thinner. Just make sure the chain fits the teeth snug without catching, and it cycles through all the rear cogs well. Good work!!
Because of you guys I’m 50 and just got my Monza 24” and back to riding around enjoying this hot weather in Florida but it’s been fun like a kid again😅👍🏽
I'm 56 and back on it
What color did you get?? I love the monza bikes. I want the gold one 😂
That’s awesome man! We love hearing stories of guys getting back into it! Keep us posted on how you like the Monza!! Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
That’s awesome man!!
Another dope bike build 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 👍😀
Thanks man! We can count on you to watch another video! Appreciate you! 🤙🏻
Great vid as always guys! I look forward to seeing how you fixed the chain issue...safest bet is a narrow wide chainring with the 3/32 chain. The stock GT one looked to be a NW..I like to use Wolftooth, made in Minnesota, they make them in 110 bcd 5 bolt...that is unless Knight makes a NW, just use his...multi speed chains are designed to "flex" so the angle isn't too much of an issue...parts probs happen to us all, so thanks for keeping the positive vibes flowin in the vids...
You nailed it, the narrow/wide chain ring was the solution! Comes out in our next video later this week! Thanks for the encouraging words and for watching!! 🤙🏼
Its oil slick crank arm nice!
They are really nice in person. If you like that look, oil slick parts can really add some pop to your bike. Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
The only thing you need is 5-arm chainring in correct diameter BCD 110mm for 9 speed chain.
Wheel axle Bolt on rear wheel is 10mm, wheel axle bolt on front wheel is 9mm.
Greetings from Croatia
Thank you for that info! Croatia? Wow! Much aloha to you and thanks for watching!! 🤙🏼
@@cruisinginthe808 Alternative other way to do it with a little more work and cost is to keep your Knight chainring and reduce the number of gears at the back, then you need a 4.5mm spacer between the wheel and a new 7 speed cassette and a new chain for the 7 speed which is the same dimension that fits your anodized chainring and the last thing you need is a new rear derailleur and gear shifter for 7 gears. Is it worth it? Well, it's a matter of taste, but you will get a more solid system as everything is thicker and stronger..
I live on the Croatian coast we have sun, palm trees and beaches like you have.
The axles are probably 10x1mm or 3/8”-24 in size we make these also. 3/8”-26 is the most popular size you tried in video.
Bern, are you sure this is your wife's bike or did you take it over? 🤣 Good stuff as always, guys!
She actually chose all the parts so it’s still “her” bike! 😂 We’re gonna ride it though before she does for sure!! Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
That bike is next level now
Great choices on that bike, can’t wait for the test ride
We’re gonna try and take it out for a spin next week so stay tuned!!🤙🏼
Big Mahalo for the shout out ..... Keep up the awesome work as always.. 💯🔥🔥🔥🤙
Appreciate you Pauly! 🤙🏻
Show up to RAD city, we’ll ride.
We got so many things to ride on here, whether it’s a slow beautiful paved river path, insane downhill rolls, plenty of skateparks, pump tracks galore…
You’re gonna have to bring like three different bikes
I'd love to make it out there bro! One of these days!
Ultimate seaside cruiser
the threads are tight because there's usually paint overspray in the threads. in road racing we typically well get the BB shell faced and the threads chased before install but really for a frame of this quality not much you can do
We should look into a thread chaser because weʻve had this issue before. That would probably be a good idea to do that on every build. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
You brothers welcome here at our Ohana in Florida anytime friends. Blessings to you and Bernie. Aloha 🤙🤙🤙🤙😎💪BMX4Life.
Brah, thank you so much!! Would love to check out the scene out there one day! And if you ever make it to Kauai, we have some bikes you can ride! Cheee!! Mahalo!! 🤙🏼
🔥🔥🔥
Hey guys, the original chain ring has direction teeth for gears shifting for going up and down. Regarding to the axle nuts , yes there's different pitch because I have a Mongoose Fireball mountain bike dirt jumper has a 12mm thru-axle which has 25x.1mm pitch threading, which a normal 3/8 axle nut won't fit.. so now I have to get 25x.1mm type axle nut and for my front , well I have a Manitou Circus Expert dirt jumper fork that uses a 20mm thru-axle for a certain type front hub.... wish I could help you guys out if I was there. See that original chain ring and the chain are specific to be together and so the bmx chain ring uses bigger wide chain. I know it's just hard to understand the bike stuff but you guys will figure it out.....
Thanks for all of that info! Yeah we realized that he needs a different sprocket and so Bernie picked the narrow/wide version and we filmed a new video where we got it to work. Now we know! Appreciate you taking the time to share that and for watching! 🤙🏼
Great build video
Thanks man! Appreciate you watching another one! 🤙🏻
Great work guys
Thanks man! Appreciate that comment and you watching! 🤙🏻
I absolutely love these videos! I just bought the GT Power Performer and the street performer is basically the same without the E-bike tech. I’m having it powdered GT lavender and styling it after the bike I grew up on. 84 lavender Mach One.
I really want to add a GT Power Disc to the stock 3pc crank to match my original bike. Thanks to the video I’m aware of the chainring update but will the power disc attach to those GT 3pc OEM crank arms and spindle fit? I look forward to the videos!! Great work guys!
Bernie has some GT cranks and uses the power disc so I know it works. But make sure you know what size the power disc hole for the crank spindle is. You might need the 19-22 adapter that you can find online depending on the spindle size. It can get confusing so just be sure the sizes match up. If you message Bernie on IG he can help too. He rarely checks comments on YT. Thanks for the comment, good luck on the build, and keep us posted on your progress!! 🤙🏼
TEST RIDE !!!!
I think that Knight gear requires a 3/32 chain
I got the 29 world tour gt but this gt looks great I like it only thing is it looks chunky and heavy it has to be heavier
The frame and fork alone are already heavy. You’d think the mags would be heavy but surprisingly they aren’t too bad! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏼
😂😂😂 thanks for the shoutout guys
We appreciate you brother! 🤙🏻
first bike was a gt now i have a 29 inch pro comp red with white tires and a black and white big flyer
Thatʻs awesome man! Glad youʻre still riding! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Geard bikes run a different sprocket
If you turn the screw on the derailer just a little bit it will stop clicking and searching for gears
Thanks for that info and for watching!! Much appreciated!! 🤙🏼
I think it was sticking to the anodized finish
He told Gary Turner to his face that he didn't weld his frames well..... 3 doritos later, Cochiloco knocked him out...😂
😂 Good one!!
What kind of gold sticker is it?
I have the same GT model in purple.
Greetings from Croatia
@@BranislavB-hx9zy I love Croatia
I believe the sticker is a 50th anniversary sticker or something like that that was already on the bike on the seat tube. I can take a photo of it if you want. Hit me up on Instagram and I can try and get that to you. Greetings from Hawaii! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 how much for the beer can valve caps I’m in Australia
I built a complete 100% oil slick bmx it’s the only 100% oil slick in the world
That’s cool man! Send us some pics so we can see what it looks like! Thanks for the comment and for watching!! 🤙🏼
You need to use an 1/8" chain because the new sprocket is 1/8 and the old one is 3/32. Get a 1/8" chain it will fix the problem
An 1/8” chain is for single speed bikes. Not geared bikes.
We actually found out that we needed to get a narrow/wide chain ring. The next video on this bike will show how we fixed it! Thanks for the feedback and for watching! 🤙🏻
Bernie yr new 26” cruiser could be a torker with doubletop tube
Love that idea!! I’ll share that with him!! 🤙🏼
Chain is usually thinner
You should upgrade your gears to sram will be much better
Great idea! I’ll share that with Bernie! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
36t should be easier to pedal and more torque, right ?
Iʻm not totally sure but it makes sense! 🤙🏻
Yes you have to change the sproket
Yeah we definitely figured that out the hard way. Bernie picked up a narrow/wide chainring and now it’s good! Appreciate the info and you watching!! 🤙🏼
Threads per inch
Can you fit a 46 tooth front chainring ?
That would honestly be a really big front chainring for a 9-speed bike. If you have the gears in the back, Iʻm not sure that youʻd need one that big up front. I think youʻd also need a longer chain too. Iʻm not an expert on this so donʻt quote me but those are just my thoughts after working on this bike. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻

Why don’t you guys do a video on all of your bikes line them all up I don’t know whalers u store them. All lol
