You guys got the last blue set of the Gary Turner Collab parts before they sold out. Cant wait to see this bike all finished, nice meeting you at Dirty Fest!
Same here bro! It was great meeting you in person and we appreciate you holding these parts for us! Didn’t get the pedals yet but hoping they arrive soon! 🤙🏼
I enjoy all of your guy's videos. It feels like it used to back in the day when I would just hang with my buddies. The long cruises and just hanging out talking about our bikes was so much fun. I feel like I'm part of your videos. They take me back there! Thanks guys!
I picked up the same bike for the same reason (Fiola tribute that I can ride)! Haven't torn it down yet as I'm still messing with my PL-26 Redline. Thanks for posting this build guys!
Yes we're in business! Bernie has it correct, v-brakes are long pull. Regular levers will not work on v's but the other way around is doable. Looking forward to part 2!
That seat post clamp is nice. It's not just a hunk of aluminum, it's stylin', but it looks like your gonna hafta spread and lube it to get it on, without scratching the powder coating. Let us know about your solution. Would Park Tools tire install tools be able to pry it open? They're plastic aren't they? It's gonna be another nice one. I'm drooling already. 🤪
Tune in to the next one because Bernie has a good solution to this problem and we show how to spread apart that seat post clamp the right way. He came up with a really creative solution to that based on a tip we got from Isaac at Big Bike BMX. Appreciate you commenting and watching another one! 🤙🏻
What the heck was that person talking about the dirty fest videos were the best in my opinion. Love the build can't wait to see it complete. Also you are going to have to put that powder coater on warning they need to take better care of these projects.
Haha, yeah we werenʻt sure if that comment was a joke or not but it made us laugh. I think I need to be better at expressing what I need done for the frame the next time. Our guy is cool and we donʻt have many to choose from so Iʻll just be better with my directions on the next one. Appreciate your comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Thanks man! Really appreciate that! Some people don't like the long videos, some do. We just like to film the whole thing and talk along the way. Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for sharing that comment with us and for watching! Appreciate it! 🤙🏻
A beautiful BMX. I scratched my head over the same brake issue on my yellow 29. I wanted blue and ended up going chrome diacomp at front with retro lever, and more modern chrome V lever combo rear in chrome. Chrome blends and works with the chrome bars, stem, cranks, and with no colour match to worry about.
Good point, the chrome definitely blends better for sure. How were the brakes for you using the front retro lever with the modern V brakes in the back? Are they mushy as what weʻre hearing? Thatʻs the last part of our build that we havenʻt had a chance to work on yet. Thanks for sharing your comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
@cruisinginthe808 I've heard the same thing about the mushy brakes. I opted the modern lever to marry up to the rear V. Doesn't really bother me the levers are different as they're both chrome. I know it's a no no for some though. I did find the mx1000 lever a tight fit around the bar tube.
Since commenting to you that I was fine having non matching brake levers so I could keep mx1000 lever its been on my mind......and subsequently I've changed my mind. Going to swop out both levers for Diacompe MX2 levers (good for V and caliper) so they are both the same whilst keeping mx1000 caliper on front.
I would definitely put some Blue Loctite on the stem bolts, if the road vibration loosens them, they are gonna drop on the ground and you'll probably not notice.
Thatʻs a great idea because yeah, for sure if you donʻt have your stuff tight and it comes loose on a ride, youʻll never notice it. Thanks for sharing that and for watching another one! 🤙🏻
They sell them at BMX Guru. Called the "Travel Agent" it costs $27.99 & takes up the slack in the V-brake cable. I need one myself for my Redline SQB-26 so I can match levers when I add a front (caliper) brake. Lookin' good so far guys!
Pork Chop has them for $19.99 so I picked up a few to see how they would help. Appreciate the comment and you sharing that with us because I had no idea those things existed until you mentioned it! 🤙🏻

Love the vids fellas! Good looking GT on it's way. Kevin...I hear you on the decal placement. Many times I say I have CDO on these details. Meaning, I have so much OCD that I have to alphabetize to CDO. Lol. Anyway, for the decal placement, super easy trick in case you aren't using it is to spritz the back of the decal lightly with soapy water. Place it and then move it to the perfect location. The soapy water will give you enough time to move it around until you get it in the perfect position. Works every time! @80sbmxr
😂 The struggle is real! I have to try that soapy water trick the next time because you’re not the first to suggest that. I was always worried though about the water messing it up. Sounds like it’s fine! Appreciate you sharing that and for watching!! 🤙🏼

You probably don’t remember me but I gave you a hard time in the comments when you said you were going to get rid of the 86 Wow colour scheme on the GT frame, well I was wrong, you had a vision of what you wanted and it looks incredible, all credit to you, I’m currently in the process of doing some work to mine and I must admit I ended up buying the Dia-compe levers with the toggle for V brakes or Cantilever, the old school levers didn’t really work on the V brakes, you have to set your brake blocks up so they’re pretty much touching the rim and they add those gyro tab holes but from what I’ve found in the past gyros really don’t work with V brakes either, it can be done but the braking performance is pretty terrible, I wasn’t sure if I wanted those Ame grips on my bike but now you’ve done them on yours and they look amazing I’ve just ordered the black and white set, thanks guys amazing work ❤
I remember! Itʻs all good man, appreciate you coming back and sharing this comment with us! And I really appreciate the info on the brakes! I ended up ordering the short pull to long pull adaptor that looks like a snail after it was suggested by a viewer. Weʻll see how they work when paired with the levers. If they donʻt work, I just may scrap the front brake and go with a Paulʻs for the rear. The Ames are our favorite grips! Glad you like them too! Thanks again for the all of the info and for watching! 🤙🏻
I also bought my gt 29 world tour in early 2021 it’s like new still in my Lounge room a friend recently bought one brand new from an eBay seller cheers Anthony
Iʻve wanted one of these for a long time. I"ve actually tried to get the Maui Blue version but just have not been able to get one. So when GT had their 2 for 1 sale I had to get the multi color one because I knew I was going to get it powder coated. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 I will buddy and thankyou for replying to my message love your videos but still keep an eye out because you can buy the gt world tour brand new so either they are old stock or they are still in production either way hope you get one would be good to see what you could do to it maybe put white 29 in mag wheels etc cheers Anthony Sydney Australia
@@cruisinginthe808 I personally love this color the mandalorian 29 is nice but you can’t go past the world tour 29 it’s funny it’s got white grips so I don’t wanna get my sweaty hands on it so I ride with white cotton gloves the tyres are white so I pick my days when there is no rain would hate to get them dirty and even comes with a free wheel I’m 42 I think my wheelie days are well over
The trick to putting on the frame decal is to not take it off the backing first. I just did this with my last bike, and I had to take a dry erase marker in find the top dead centre of the tube, there is a small gap between the decals on each side of the tube, and that gap is what I line up with the mark… It’s kind of a pain in the ass to describe by text, but I hope you understand the concept and hopefully you have better luck next time brother As far as the pinning is concerned, I would rather go with a steel wool, I would take the tire right off the rim. I would mount the wheel to the frame and spin the wheel and use the steel wool to ‘brake’ against the polished surface to maintain the perfect circular polish look. I’ve done this to get the black brake marks off old rims, sometimes a little 99% alcohol in the wool can help break off heavy scuffs.
I hear ya man, it was a pain to install and I did try to keep part of the backing on. I must have tried to center that long decal on the frame a dozen times before I got brave enough to pull the backing off. Another viewer suggested using water on it first but Iʻve never tried that. Iʻll try your suggestion of steel wool because I tried the aluminum foil and it didnʻt seem to do much. Thank you so much for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏻
It’s always good to have you guys in the garage again I still on my side hurts half the time I’m laughing. Remember AMY gave you the grips. I was just a catalyst chat with you guys soon.
That is very strange about the headset bearing. Standard campy 45/45 bearings, which most BMX integrated headsets use, both bearings are usually identical. It is common for the top bearing to stick up a tiny bit above the top of the head tube. That's one reason you sometimes need that tiny spacer that comes with some headsets, to prevent binding. Good eyes!!
Yeah it was kinda weird to see one size a little bigger. Still felt stupid since this wasn’t the first time we’ve worked on this headset! Appreciate your insight as always!! 🤙🏼
Yeah, that one was hard to miss but once we put on the cranks, you canʻt really see it now. Stay tuned for the next one! Think youʻre gonna like it! 🤙🏻
i think he says it'll be mushy cause the travel of the cable is longer than the old tech levers should pull. the other lever is made for those kinda brakes. i think i have a powder that could match the levers to the brake
Yeah I think youʻre right. Weʻll have to see when we actually put them on. Iʻll keep you posted and thanks for the offer to powder coat those levers for us! Appreciate you bro! 🤙🏻
Itʻs been a long and slow process to build up the channel. The first 1000 subs took forever! But itʻs been picking up and the second 1000 was much faster and the third was faster yet. So Iʻm hoping if we keep doing what weʻre doing, weʻll continue to grow. Feel free to share our stuff with anyone else who might like our content! Thanks for the kind words and for watching! 🤙🏻
GT (current GT) has terrible quality control issues. I had two Pro Series with major issues, both returned - crooked bottom bracket shell, a wheel rim with extremely sharp unfinished aluminum burrs sticking out from under the rim strip, a spoke hole that was complete blown out, unfinished headset cups that had sharp aluminum shards at the top of the cup, serious paint issues, and more that I'm probably forgetting. I'm debating on making a video about it. I recorded some of the problems. In any case, I hope you all don't have any more issues!
The current GT is not the same as the original, GT was taken over by a few different companies/corporations since 2000, like Pacific and Dorel, they didn't have the same values as the original GT company, unfortunately, so quality control wasn't up to the same standards either.
Man, that sucks! I had no idea they had so many issues! Yeah, they arenʻt built by the same family that started them and you can tell. Hopefully we donʻt run into any other problems but you know how things go in our garage! Anything can happen! Appreciate you sharing that with us and thanks for watching another one! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 bike looks great though. I can’t stand the original color but the bike and parts were nice. Glad you fixed the color. Thanks for the video.
Yeah the geometry of the old-school levers make those garbage mountain bike style brakes mushy as hell there's no good adjustment for them. I don't know why these companies didn't just keep the old-school style caliper brakes.
It’ll be interesting when we set that up today when we film the next episode! Will be bummed if they are mushy for sure. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks for sharing that and for watching!!🤙🏼
I'm just curious. How much does it normally cost to powder coat a frame and fork set? Your guy did a wonderful job by the way. That's a pretty light frame and its chromoly. That wasn't dropped it was bounced. OUCH! You goofy potty mouth. My Grandma just threatened to stop watching! I like those Billet stem spacers. Definitely a Bougie, eye popper. Bernies Big Brain Bike Acadamy (BBBBA) has gotten off to a nice start so far, but with that sweet head set, stem, seat post clamp, and rear brake upgrade it would be a shame to the color scheme and the high quality and efficiency of modern braking systems to utilize squishy, out dated, color mismatched front brakes and levers don't ya' think? Besides those old school classic Ame Unitron grips help steel the retro scene up front. Can't wait for the next episode. I've got a feeling this bike's gonna be a beauty.
It cost me $250 to strip the paint and then powder coat the frame, fork, and bars. I never planned on using the bars since they are more of the cruiser type versus the old school racer type, but figured since I had the powder Iʻll have him do it. Yeah, we filmed the second episode yesterday and the levers are the sore spot right now. Weʻll see how it all works out when we can get them connected but if they are just too soft, Iʻm gonna change them for sure. Thanks for watching and tell Grandma weʻre keeping it clean! Thanks man! 🤙🏻
The best method I've found is a product called White Lightning Clean Streak - spray it on and slide on the grip, just like using alcohol, but it dries sticky within about 10 seconds. It's great!
Don't ride the 26 GT hard I've owned several of them and have a Raspberry color one now. They are known for breaking at the bend after the head tube right in front of the GT letters
Oh man, that’s a bummer to hear! I like to ride my bikes! Shoot, I don’t do any hard jumps or anything so maybe just cruising will be ok? Thanks for sharing that! 🤙🏼
It took everything I know how to pull the barring out of my bottom bracket on my kink drafter it three days and torch to heat them up just to remove them lucky I know how to do that

@@techjunkie68smusicandtech56 For sure. I emailed them about the current Superlace hubs, and they couldn't answer basic questions for me.
That's going to be sweat
Thanks man! Appreciate the comment and for watching! 🤙🏼
Kev, you got a new car ? Did you sell your Ram ?
Eddie would go
You know dat! Chee! 🤙🏻
Ah man. I could see that decal was crooked way before you zoomed in and pointed it out. Gonna have to fix that. 😢 2:31
Yeah, it bugs me too. But dang, those decals arenʻt cheap. Iʻll have to see if I can just buy that one. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Thanks man! 🤙🏻
Those grips are a bitch to put on. use air
The best method I've found is a product called White Lightning Clean Streak - spray it on and slide on the grip, just like using alcohol, but it dries sticky within about 10 seconds. It's great!
Thanks for sharing that!! Yeah air is probably the easiest if you have a compressor. 🤙🏼
Y’all are lying, Bernie didn’t get no two days off- impossible !!!!
He came up with a great suggestion and his boss was like, hell yeah! That gives all of them two days off so he was all for it!

It took everything I know how to pull the barring out of my bottom bracket on my kink drafter it three days and torch to heat them up just to remove them lucky I know how to do that
That's pretty awesome of you to be able to do that. I don't know that Bernie and I could do that! If we run into that problem we now know who to contact! Thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏻
