It's hard to pick the best piece of dialogue in this game, but my favorite has to be this one exchange between Nate and Sully during the car chase: Sully: " Nate..." Nate: "What?" Sully: "We can never come back to this city again." Nate: "Add it to the list!"
I think the reason the scene of Elena and Nathan standing in the dining room with all of the dead pirates hits so hard is because you see Nathan really fall back into the whole reason he was really doing all of his adventuring in the first place. His love of the hidden history of the world. And Elena is reminded of the reason she wound up falling for him in the first place. Her expression drops because she can’t help but be fascinated by the man in front of her just gushing over a piece of history no one has seen in centuries. And it reminds her of the reason she joined him back in the first game. It’s a touching moment that reminds them of where they started together, and works as the final piece to them repairing their relationship.
Oh that is an interesting way of seeing it , the way I see it was always that Nate is talking about these great pirates the greatest infact dying in an instant, these great men who accomplished so much just died because of the greed of others, and thats exactly where Nate could end up and that is all Elena can think of, replacing it in her head as "nate the greatest adventurer in history, died in an instant" and that is why Nate apologizes in the end because he realises that too.
You forgot the best moment in Sams reintroduction; Nathan doesn't mention he's married initially. He regales Sam with the stories of all his adventures and the cool shit he's done, but doesn't mention he has *a wife* until the very end as an afterthought. It's such a good moment that further demonstrates where his head's at and compliments his moment with Elena so well
@@Road_to_Dawn main driving story is about Nathan helping his Brother Sam out of debt and get his head out of Gold Fever. Nathan and elena had been through tonnes of shit to know treasure is just useless piece of junk kinda like the test about weighing system
@@stalinsoulz7872 its not the treasures Nate loves. Its the adventures. Constantly on the verge of dying, discovering secrets long lost to time, exploring forgotten lands. He lives for it and that was a main driving point to the story. He wants to find the treasure for the thrill until he's confronted by Elena
@HwanNiggles Yeah, and the last stretch of the game is essentially Nathan getting one final shot at fixing his relationship with Elena and getting to choose between a life of adventure and a life of peace. Their relationship is a little in the rocks, not because they are angry at each other but because neither of them are entirely sure that Nathan is still fully committed to their relationship. Nathan is still stubborn around the end, but Elena convinces him that he was wrong in a respectful way that saves him from falling into the trap that got Rafe killed.
The look on Elena's face when all the dead pirate captains are found, she's almost overcome with the emotion of knowing that, yes, she does still love this man. As well as why she fell for him in the first place.
Also, let's not forget that Rafe's motivation for greatness when we meet him in Panama does not hold a candle to his motivations when we return to him thirteen years later. When he agrees to help Sam and Nathan before Sam "dies", he's a man trying to make a name for himself, sure. But by the time we revisit him in the Rossi estate, he's got so much more fire under his ass, and that's all because of one guy: Nathan Drake. During the final boss fight, the dialogue interspliced between sword slices from Rafe reveals that with every victory Nathan won, with every lost city Nathan discovered, Rafe was only getting madder and madder. While Nathan was receiving all this treasure-hunting glory, Rafe was still in Scotland, turning over rocks. So by the time Uncharted 4 is happening, Rafe is *hellbent* on finding Avery's treasure. With all the money and resources at his disposal, he was turning squat at the cathedral. Meanwhile, here's this guy, crybaby Drake who lost his big brother, finding El Dorado, the Chintamani Stone, and Ubar, like it's nothing. Sure, Rafe wants to make a name for himself, but he also wants to prove that his dick is just as big, if not bigger, than Nate's.
Yeah you are right. And then imagen you finally have a new lead. And then this crybaby comes and steals it. After years if work while the crybaby is earning glory. Fuck that is dark.
Now i wonder. I dont think it was ever brought up just how famous Nathan must be except this fight with Rafe. He must be a legend among treasure hunters. Nathan should really consider writing an autobiography
Also, with his vast fortune he could make a name for himself by feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, bring up the poor, and creating a more equitable society for all. However, instead of doing all this he buys a historic landmark, blows it up over the course of 15 years, and finds fucking nothing. He then throws a pissy fit since no one knows anything about him except that he has daddies money, and because Nate found the craziest shit since unlike him he fucking moved on, from the death of his brother no less. I understand what Bricky was saying about people feeling like they don’t deserve what they have because they’re not from poverty or near poverty. The thing is, this man didn’t work for his shit like bricky did. Bricky updated his formula, got better at his work. This guy got hung up for fucking 15 YEARS.
@@santiagopomposiello5151 All of those victories you listed would just be attributed to his wealth and not him. Just look at Bill Gates, who has created and funded many charitable organisations but doesn't get credit for it as a human being and everyone just says he can do more. Also Bricky points out that it's a dumb plothole that the guy owns that landmark for 15 years and finds nothing until Nathan trespasses on his property and yoinks the clue out from under him. Comparing moving on after the death of a loved one versus dropping one's goals or dreams isn't equivalent for obvious reasons.
So basically, if Sam didn't ditch Rafe, convinced him to get Nathan onboard, sat down with Elaine and explained everything/invite her into it as well... Everyone would have had a happy and fun time. God Dammit, Sam! This is why we can't have nice things!
Pretty much! Rafe and Nate didn't necessarily like each other, but they weren't enemies, and Sam totally could have made the case of "we were doing this as a team, we finish it as a team".
@@trekadouble757 Rafe knows/understands that he needs Drake, Nadine even called him out, saying he tried to lure him out. I could totally see him going along until the end, then bam. Winner gets the loot, kinda like how Eddy Raja planned.
Yeah exactly. This really did not make sense. When you think about it, why did Nate not bring this up? Nate knows Rafe doesn't need the money, just his ego
Exactly. Rafe is the one who hired Sam. Why wouldn't he allow Nate to tag along as well? Al they need to do is let Rafe get all the honour. The closest thing we ever get to an explanation (for Nate's side) is "he became too ruthless". But that does not explain Sam's motivation, except selfishly wanting to do it himself
The old lady mansion section is one of the best moments of narrative through gameplay I've ever seen in a video game. If you look at letters and memorabilia throughout the mansion, you begin to put together the pieces of a story. A story of an explorer who fell in love, but became so engrossed with her own adventures that she let her marriage die, and didn't even bother showing up to her husband's funeral, destroying her relationship with her son. And that explorer was the old lady who owned the mansion. It's such a beautiful yet heartbreaking reward for players who are willing to explore a bit more, and a really good parallel to what Nate and Elena's relationship could become if Nate goes down that path. God I love this game.
Uncharted 4 was great at leaving stories in universe through the collectibles, often as parallels to Nathan's path. Besides Evelyn's story, there's the Johnathan Burns story (when happens when explorers don't have Nathan's luck and don't know when to stop) and the story of the founders in New Devon (what happens when explorers are consumed by their lust for the treasure, like Nathan could have been). Seeing Burns and his crew fall into ruin and die when he was SO CLOSE to the treasure made me go, "OOOHHH" when I realized.
I’ll forever be amazed by how well they actually pulled off the "long lost brother no ones ever seen or heard of before" thing. It’s so cliche and it really shouldn’t work but it just does. Sam grew on me immediately and I cared just as much about him as all the other characters we’ve known since the first game. And yes I know that there are plotholes regarding his existence but I feel like it’s something I’m able to look past considering how he was very obviously written into the story and the developers didn’t plan for Nathan to have a brother from the start. Sams existence gets a napwiss from me
I rolled my eyes so hard when they pulled the “long lost brother” card, but they genuinely did it so well that I just didn’t care when I finally played it. Doesn’t hurt that Troy Baker always gives 110% in his roles, too.
@@zachfreedom644 but the big plothole comes from 3. Marlow pretty much knew Nathan inside and out for the most part and 4 reconned some of the things confirmed from Marlow. 1. No mention of Sam 2. Mother doesnt commit suicide. She dies due to terminal illness 3. Father didnt surrender Nate and Sam to the state. He straight up abandoned them at the Sir Francis school. Also somehow Sully knew too when the past games have no mention of it. Tho considering this was Amy's idea and not Niel's, Im gonna assume it was gonna be vastly different
Rafe's motivation as a character works well because its so similar to Nates while being the opposite to Nate's, and ties in well to the central themes of the game and how the hunt for glory can be all-consuming and destructive. Many of the other Uncharted villains come across as mustache twirling cartoons.
And we've seen Nate almost fall into the same hole as well in previous games. But it was because of Sully and Elana's patience and love that he could pull himself back. Rafe had no one, and Nadine is most definitely just in it for the money.
1:13:52 i just want to point out, so that you understand how fucking insane Havery was: those bones weren't always bones... let that sink in, he went full chainsaw massaquere in those caves

I'm a historian, life-long pirate lover, and married man. This game had me in tears of awe, joy, and sorrow too many times. It is, in my opinion, a true masterclass in the creation of good videogame dialogue. What a masterpiece.
I actually like that Nathan never told Elena about Sam, he'd be ashamed he had left him behind and feels responsible. Even if the reason is that Sam orginally didn't exist.
Honestly finished this video smiling for Nathan and Elena's happy ending. Lots of games have a romantic subplot but so often the feel empty, not realistic. This one showed the hard times, and hard work a real relationship needs, and the happy story you make by making that effort. Oh yeah the game seems good too.
Something I love is in the scene where they find all the dead founders, where they more or less reconcile, where they have their heart to heart, has a very similar lighting/color scheme to when they have their first "moment" when he's explaining Sir Francis Drake's ring in the first game
Hearing Nathan's emotional damn break and saying sorry really hits home since I had a similar moment recently. You think you're fine but as soon the magic words come out, all hell goes loose
For as good as the last minute Sam/Nate relationship is, my god Elena and Nate have really gone through the most in this series. So glad they got a happy ending.
So I've heared that - originally - Sam and Rafe were suposed to be partners and the big twist in the game was suposed to be Sam being Nathan's brother, which eventually results in Sam turning on Rafe and joining the hero team. Nadine wasn't even suposed to exist before the redraft.
Well Neil drukman directed this so you know you there's gonna be a all powerful women that can beat the shit out two men while you sit there and and no matter what buttons you push still get your ass kicked because she's a women, like bro we know you wanna have your balls stomped on but WE don't lol
For me, Elena visually looked her best in Uncharted 3, but was written best in Uncharted 4. Absolute prime wife material. That whole thing where she joins you for the big last part of the game was just such a joy. Kind of a wild mix of emotions there - wistfulness, love, camaraderie, regret over past mistakes, resolve to do better. Probably the best part of the whole game, especially when it’s just the two of them in the jeep, driving up there.
Honestly your diversion 1:19:00 is pretty awesome and on point. We don't get to celebrate much unless we had immense hardship. And even you succeed through hardship, it's supposed to prove that the system is fine (instead of the truth that the system is awful for allowing such hardship to so many)
Hardship is just a thing that happens because life is hard and no one will make it easier for someone else without initiation to make things easier. That's what Systems tend to be; another means of making life easier in particular aspects, but there is no universal one that works for everything.
You talking about Rafes motivation and how related to it was fantastic, because it has hit home for me, I've also grown up with loving parents and with out much hardship and whenever I think about my future of whatever I want to do. I'm happy to know I wasn't the only person feeling that
@@jackmurray764 yeah but Rafe was born rich. He felt useless, unworthy because he was always handed things to him like that. When you have everything, whats the point of trying?
@@hwanniggles187 Honestly, it could’ve been even worse for him. He likely does have accomplishments of his own but he’s always live in the shadow of his father and his deeds would always be compared to him. As such, he would’ve likely believed that he had to do something massive, like find Avery and Tew’s treasure, to stand on his own.
That's good. You have empathy and aren't blind to your inherit privileges. That shouldn't stop you from doing what you can or want with what you've got, you know, so long as it's moral and not harming anybody. It'd be more insulting if you squandered it.
I like the part with the armored truck for 2 big reasons. 1. When the soldiers first show up they shoot in the air so that innocent people have a chance to run away, they're not blood thirsty killers, they're mercenaries, they aren't just going to straight up murder people for no reason. 2. The armored truck adds a huge amount of actual competence to the enemy soldiers you're fighting. It doesn't do what other vehicles in games do where it will just sit in one spot and constantly shoot at you even without LoS it always hounds you and follows your movements exactly, making it feel like these troops are coordinated and determined.
Facts, it also amps the tension of the chase. By that point; Nate has taken out a good chunk of Shoreline, a lot of those dudes probably had friends at the church and Nate took them out. Of course they're going to put out their maximum effort to get Nathan.
sams death is so well done, it had me in tears, even tho i only knew him for like half an hour at that point. this game is such a masterpiece, from start to finish.
Personally, the only thing i kinda missed was something "supernatural", i know that the story wanted to be way more grounded and have a whole different approach with Nathan/Elena/Sam, but i just kinda missed not having something like this. Your Videos actually made me replay all the games and i still cant help myself enjoying 4 the most of like all the reasons you mentioned.
The lack of supernatural elements in the story is actually what makes it my favorite in the series. The mystery of the journey being a betrayal by historical figures as a result of greed made the adventure feel a lot more compelling and as we learned from the video, reflected the characters in the story really well.
I certainly missed a supernatural element as well. First game had zombies, second game had yetis, third game had djinn, though the djinn could be argued to be a hallucination brought on by some kind of drug, because even though the jar that housed the supposed djinn was found, we never actually saw any djinn beyond the hallucination Nate had of Sully dying, Uncharted 4 didn't really feel like it needed or even warranted a supernatural element. Nate, Sam, and Sully weren't hunting down some ancient mythical relic or city, they were hunting down a treasure that was well documented and known to exist. El Dorado, the Fountain of Youth/Shambala, and the Atlantis of the Sands(can't remember its actual name) were all heavily shrouded in myth and legend and weren't really believed to be real. Avery's treasure is most assuredly real. The myth aspect comes into play with Libertalia, a city very reminiscent of Tortuga, which was a real and very well known pirate refuge in the Caribbean
Ok… why the hell would you miss the supernatural nonsense? That’s by far the worst aspect of the series plot. You do realize you’re playing as a TREASURE hunter, not a goddamn ghost buster. Besides, how many supernatural hidden cities/ relics do you need? 3 isn’t enough?
Eh, Uncharted has been only semi-supernatural. Like in the first one it's some viral infection or something, not really supernatural, you can finagle your way into some biology explanation (it would be a stretch, sure, but realistic enough), same with the 2nd game. And then the 3rd one is just about poop water that makes you trip balls, nothing supernatural at all.
That final shot with the photographs never fails to make me misty eyed. Its the epitome of "greatness from small beginnings." The way this game wraps up and perfectly brings the entire franchise full circle is just astounding, and honesty miraculous.
Hey Bricky, just wanted to say that thank you for introducing me to this series properly. Never really knew much about it and after I watched your first two videos I decided I would go buy the games. But by a random miracle a co worker of mine who is a massive fan of the game (even naming his first child Nathan), lent me his Uncharted collection after talking to him and I've been playing it for the past 3 weeks. Almost done with the third one and I'm having an absolute blast really love everything about these games. Genuinely haven't had this much fun and enjoyment since I played Doom Eternal. Thank you so much for introducing me to this series. I will have to sit out this video for now until I finish the 4th game, but seeing how the first three were fantastic I doubt this one will fail to deliver. Cheers!
I was always a little bit mad about Rafes death. He‘s by far my favorite uncharted villain, simply because he actually has some nuance and personality. He isn’t any worse than Nate or Sam really and he isn’t even after the treasure because he wants to destroy the world or whatever, he’s already rich as hell so the only reason he’s after it is because he wants the same notoriety that Nate got for his adventures. The dynamic between him and Sam is so interesting, he was always the third wheel and even after he busted Sam out of jail he turned his back to him and went to find the treasure with Nathan alone. I mean it ain’t Shakespeare but it’s certainly more compelling than a stupidly evil villain who is just after money and power right? That’s also why I was mad that Nadine got to survive instead of him, because pre the lost legacy she had literally zero personality. I’m not saying she should’ve died but damn I wish they both could’ve lived cause I would’ve totally loved to see more of Rafe
Rafe becoming some sort of rival to Sam, Nadine and Chloe definitely would've been interesting. Especially if they could've developed him to side with the protagonist in some cases but still at the end just duping them in order to find it himself but never killing them. But we got what we got, and it is what it is.
Right??? I feel so bad for him actually like yea he was kinda crazy but he certainly didn’t have more blood on his hands than Nate or Sam. He just wanted to make a name for himself which Nate already has so damn just let rafe have this one😂
ill be honest, when he broke Nathan's sword, while explaining how he hasnt earned anything except that, that everything has been handed to him in a silver platter except that, i mean what can i say i was rooting for him, and i almost velibed nathan was gonna talk his way out of it, let him keep the treasure and everyone is lives happily ever after, it made me sad to see him die like that
The storycrafting of Nate and Sam making the discovery of Libertalia is absolutely brilliant. Having the brothers alone making a Great Discovery is a great redemption for their tragic past, plus we get some exceptionally great Nate & Sam banter as Sam geeks out about their discovery, while for Nate its old hat.
Props to Sk8terclone for not pulling out the trigger i mean big salute there man. The editing, inserting memes and all, thank you for having us this wonderful video essay that has been really well made by thicc brick himself. I can't wait for the Lost legacy video. Sic Parvis Magna
the theme that plays during the final bossfight is so damn good, it also plays when nate and sam escape the police from the old ladys house, it fits so damn well in both instances.
I keep on binge watching these four videos, remembering the first video that I watched JUST A COUPLE HOURS BEFORE, thinking that I'd love to watch it again, and repeating. I have watched this series 3 times in 2 days and I see no sign of stopping.
Bricky, this is by far the best video you've ever made. I've been subscribed for over 6 years, I love the direction you're going and I whole heartedly believe you are filling a niche I can't quite describe. Insane props for this one man. Do Mass Effect next, you won't coward.
I think the thing about the poison table scene with Elena and Nate is that, Elena is afraid that Nate could meet the same fate, histories greatest pirates the worlds greatest treasure hunters gone in an instant because of their need to always want more. Elena see a piece of that in Nate and it breaks her heart. Then Nates apology makes it that much more sincere he's sorry for being so greedy and putting them in so much danger. I think it's also a nice parallel that only two pirates lived through that dinner. Just like Elena and Nate have out lasted many famous and powerful people.
It made bold choices for the ending of a series that was already over, and it worked very well, still would have loved to have some pirate monsters, or a sea monster or something like that
That moment when you're currently building a Kratos tank while watching this video, and Bricky pauses, only to announce that he too has built a Kratos tank... Ah what a satisfying feeling
I think the fact that Nate and Sam work so well is thanks for Nolan and Troy being practically brothers themselves in real life. They're so good together and it's great seeing these two characters work together.
@@therookieva apparently both Nolan and Troy had disagreements about where they wanted Retro Replay to go and that caused friction between the two of them and so Troy either left or was let go we don’t know which is true. In a statement from Troy he said that he and Nolan were “not okay” but that they would be, that was last year and as of right now none of us know if they ever matched things up or not.
What makes the story to the treasure better is that, save for one, all of these pirates were real, and the gunsway(?) heist was an actual hiest Avery and Tew pulled off.
Uncharted 2 is still my favorite, but DAMN does Uncharted 4 come close. There's just so much character depth given in Uncharted 4 that builds on the smaller arcs from the previous games. And the performances and face capture are the best they've ever been. Plus the story delves into obession and fake happiness in a great way imo.
When you talked about all the stuff Elena has been through, it gave me a thought. It would have been great to be able to see scars on Elena from when she got blown up in U2.
33:34 so funny observation at this particular moment in the game. If you do the drop stealth attack on the soldier as he is taking a leak, he continues peeing even when he’s unconscious. I discovered this when I had the low gravity cheat on for some reason. It was one of my favorite visual jokes in the series.
I think what makes this game so great is it's not just a sequel but it made the franchise evolve. Most game series will stick to the gameplay mechanics that past games did. Uncharted 4 put modern mechanics as well as the older mechanics to make a new but also familiar experience. Also the story is just one of the best in modern gaming because of it's more human focused storyline
Uncharted 4 is like 1B to Uncharted 2’s 1A for me. It’s a fantastic game, some of the best set pieces in the series and the grappling hook mechanic is just *chef’s kiss*. Wasn’t initially keen on Samuel, but he grew on me over time, and I enjoyed the Babby Nate sequences. The graphical upgrades are an obvious upside - the game looks the best the series has ever been. I agree you can feel certain elements of the Last of Us, and that’s not a bad thing at all imo. It’s really only personal preference that would put 2 over 4 for me, but I wouldn’t argue with anyone calling 4 the best.
The whole vibe of uncharted 4 is just unmatched by any game ever for me I absolutely love it and made me fall in love with the real life Henry Avery guns way story
But I mean was there ever supernatural stuff in Uncharted when you think about it? The 1st one had some gas infection thingy, the 2nd one had some healing liquid and the 3rd one had poop water. You can conjure up some biological explanation. A stretch for sure, but no ghosts or something like that
I always felt like the supernatural stuff was the "worst part" of the older games so I kinda appreciate that they decided to move away from it (worst part here being relative because of how good the games are)
One of the few games I will replay at least once a year. Such a fantastic story and fantastic characters. And the pacing. The highs, the lows, the intense firefights and then long exploring sections. It’s one of the best games ever made. Ever.
1:21:42 Originally they were going to have a plastic sword fight mini-game when Nate and his brother were kids to help you prepare for the final boss. I played through the toughest difficulty and yeah as you said, I couldn't get through it. 1:24:15 Ah that's a good idea too, swordfighting with Nadine. You could tell too that the swordfighting felt too jarring.
Following your first video, I actually replayed the whole franchise before this final installment (unless you do Lost Legacy, of course) and despite all it's action packed moments, awe and splendor.. The most memorable aspect of the series is the relationship between Elena and Sam. Their emotional sendoff with the daughter is really beautifully done. And obviously excluding the shooting and murder, this romanticised vision of globe trotting and treasure hunting is genuinely inspiring. It makes you want to just leave and see the world, and I'm sure it will give birth to the next generation of treasure hunters. Very few titles will top the emotion that Uncharted 4 evokes. It's a sweet send off and celebration of the franchise and its roots. Also, I may have missed this, but how could you miss out that one of the head pirate captains was Guybrush Threepwood! It's crazy to think that a Monkey Island reference is such an integral plot point in an Uncharted title.
I'm honestly glad someone saw Rafe as a great villain, a little bit misunderstood and short tempered, but not THAT bad of a guy. Always liked his character, honestly he was a great addition in the cast of characters.
32:57 idk why but that scene your bonking Nathan’s head with that snap sound effect at the end made me laugh way to hard Also thank you for the 90 minute video bro. I always love your content and I’ve gone back to play the old games and rn as I comment this I’m installing uncharted 4 lol
I love how Rafe just goes insane at the end. He's done everything he possibly can over nearly 2 decades to get one load of treasure all the while Nate gets 3 loads accidentally and DECIDES NOT TO KEEP THEM. Granted, it makes sense being as every one would be terrible if it reached the world, but from Rafe's view (not knowing of the dangers), it would be crushing. And then when he's confronting Nate, he's still not wrong: 'Nathan Drake raced a madman and his entire army to the steps of Shambala' 'Nathan Drake found a lost city in the middle of the Rub' al Khali desert' 'Nathan Drake discovered the fabled El Dorado' And then calls him 'legend' before his flurries become ridiculous. And right at the end: 'You just don't know when to give up, do you? That's good. Don't hand it to me. I've had everything handed to me on a goddamn silver platter. Everything except THIS. I earned this.' He has had everything given to him. He wanted to have one thing that he fought to get and actually deserved. And he did deserve Avery's treasure. He lost so much to get there, and then Nathan Drake, infamous for his treasure discoveries, came along and ruined it. It's a brilliant moment, and his descent into insanity certainly makes sense.
I think one of my favorite detail in these games that you didn’t talk about (I think) is the health regen. So basically the whole screen gets greyer it not Nate get near death it was he’s luck running out because realistically Nate isn’t ever wearing body armor so a good shot puts him down. I think it’s pretty neat
@@hwanniggles187 Confirmed? Wait, hold the phone, they really took a simple gameplay mechanic that has been around for a long-аss time in a legion of games and went "yep, that's our brilliant idea"? Wow! That's incredible. It's like when some games make the screen more red the more you are hurt and one guy just goes "yeah, I've come up with this thing where the more your character is hurt, the more angry he gets, starts seeing red". Unbelievable bullshit, the absolute balls and nerve on Naughty Dog devs. I literally cannot get over it
First of all. Great Video. Just what i needed to wind down after a stressful day. 1:20:00 Honestly, be proud of your accomplishments on youtube. I and many other people enjoy your videos on a regular basis. This video in particular is of great quality. Be proud of it. And also, amazing editing from Sk8er as always.
I can say after working on the night shift and binging a few of your vids lad, you actually helped me see some of my issues with UC4 and I can admit most of my issues came from the absolute obsession some of my friends had for last of us, i was the Uncharted player of my friends beat all of them on crushing, been a fan of Naughty Dog since Jak 2. These games were the adventure I wanted to go on myself to find the things lost to time, and made me want to learn but all that emotion and nostalgia blinded me from what made me love them in the first place. But I will die on the hill that 3 had the best MP experience of the series.
I love how Sam, Rafe and Nadine all share a motivation of proving their worth through their legacy, while the callback on Nathan's realization of "nothing to prove" from Uncharted 3 is reminded to him.
Resident Evil 4 is arguably the best resident evil (and in the top 10 games of all time), so I guess it isn’t unheard of for a fourth outing to be really really good
53:05 I think another thing you could've mentioned is the deadpan blank stare that Sam has when Nate mentions getting Alcazar off of his back really kinda feels like Sam has a moment of "oh shit i'm lying to my brother". I'm also not sure if him saying okay is him shrugging it off, but that okay kind of sounded like he was about to tell Nate he was lying, before deciding against it and pointing out the ships, both because he's actually concerned, and also because it changes the topic.
by far, my fave series on your channel. they made me understand this franchise and TBH, it made me get MORE excited for the ports to PC. Thank you bricky
Can we just take a moment to admire all of the edits? They had me chuckling through the whole ordeal while trying to take in what Bricky was saying. Love the content, you're the best.
Referring to the parallels between Nathan and the historical characters, as an uncharted 3 defender, the title "Drake's deception" is referring to both drakes, Francis and Nathan. Blinded by their ambitions of riches and greed and then snapping out of of it to protect others. Francis was deceived by the queen and Nathan was only deceiving himself
I think the idea was that Rafe got desperate and finally decided to maybe go back to poking around Panama looking for another cross or maybe something Nate had missed their first go around. That would lead him to finding out Sam is still alive. As far as Rafe 'keeping' Sam from talking to Nate, I don't think this is the case at all. I think Sam chose not to speak to Nate because he's obsessed with the treasure and finding it together with his brother. So he waited till after he'd been around Rafe long enough to pick up his leads and snatch it from under him, then go to Nate with what he found: ie. the cross being handed out at an auction. The whole two year gap is a bit too long, but I chalk it up to Rafe finding jack shit even after pulling Sam in and Sam was just waiting for something substantial to come up before he jumped ship.
That scene where Elena just looks at Nate, the fact that they could convey so much emotion from just a look, the artists, animators and actors outdid themselves in this one scene, one of many great scenes in this absolute masterpiece.
Uncharted 4 is the only one i've beat multiple times. Easily my favorite, and the only one i can play for long periods of time. Great story, visuals, ost, and setting.
1:12:30 because, you’re watching an incredible depiction of someone watching and understanding exactly what another person is thinking and feeling, and then from that, gaining a new understanding of the person - the relationship growing right there and then. A live depiction of empathy it really is an amazing scene
1:20:00 man as a "underdog" i want to say that i HATE it when people act like being in a disadvantage is something "good" or "helpful" and they just glamorize having awful things and luck in life and its so weird. being "privileged" isnt something anyone should see as an advantage really, it is every human's right to have a loving family and something to eat and a place to sleep. its so sad how people look at "privileged" people and say "yeah he doesnt deserve it because he wasnt in prison for 1532 years" and as a random guy on the internet i am proud of you and your videos and channel and everything you do and create. you make people feel your feelings when you talk about things and its f***ing amazing to watch and puts a smile on my face.
17:52 This Call to Adventure sting in the music, combined with Nate longingly looking at the picture of an Island just gets my adrenaline flowing so fast. It makes me want to drop everything and adventure in the Caribbean. Holy is it effective.
I appreciate how the game doesnt even pretend that Sam actually dies in the prison. His "death" happens in a flashback AFTER we see him alive in present day.
As satisfying as it may be to take down the armored truck, I just can't get over how Nate did it I've seen that thing bust through BUILDINGS, and you expect me to believe Nate shooting his little gun actually did damage to it? Massive N.A.P.W.I.S.S.
My headcannon is that after smashing through so many buildings, walls, other vehicles, etc. that its front armor plating had been damaged just enough to expose the engine. Plus in the final stretch, it's STILL smashing its front into more objects further trashing it. Nate probably does at least a tiny fraction of the damage that driver was doing to the truck all by themself.
This game was my first uncharted, and despite the issues with the story you pointed out, it still is a 10/10. I’ve never been so immersed in a story driven game in my life. Yeah there are some issues/plot holes but they were believable enough for me to suspend my disbelief and just enjoy it for what it is!
Thoroughly enjoyed these videos, thanks for putting so much effort into them (both you and the editor(s)). Also, I find it kinda odd that Uncharted 1-3 dealt with supernatural elements to certain extents in their finales, but 4 seemed like a pretty grounded 'realistic' story by comparison. Which is fine, but the supernatural stuff was always kinda the cherry on top to me.
Also in 19:30 Tommy wears the exact same denim jacket in the last of us. And both tommy and sam are supposed to be the main characters brother. So cool
I haven’t played Uncharted 4 since it’s release, but i remember REALLY being bumped out by the game not having the vast amount of customization to the game like Uncharted 2. Loved playing as different characters trough the chapters again with their very own dialogues to certain events.
I think if Naughty Dog ever did a sequel to this game it'd have to be through the perspective of their daughter after she's grown up a bit. I just think the ending to Nathan is so final that there really couldn't be a tasteful way to put him back into the action after we see the amazing ending that 4 had.
Oh hey there Bricky! Awesome vid, really agree on Elena part (talking and finding out). Man I've watched this whole series and yeah, 4th Uncharted is the best. What a journey it was. Btw that Kratos is quite big, I wonder how it would compare to old and new rhinos and CSM.
I did all the platinum trophies for uncharted and recently replayed it and honestly it will always hold a special place in my heart especially since uncharted 3 was my first ps3 game
What you said about relating to Rafe at the end was very nice to hear. Never saw someone "defending" Rafe with actually good points. I actually love it when youtubers relate stuff to their own life. And also the fact that you have the exact same hairstyle as him and kinda look like him makes it all the more funny lmao.
The urge to craft a 3d printed Nathan bonking hammer is quite high
Sell it as merch

What about a Solar Titan Bonking hammer?
So are we going to get a review like this for the first last of us game?
you gonna do the dlc?
It's hard to pick the best piece of dialogue in this game, but my favorite has to be this one exchange between Nate and Sully during the car chase:
Sully: " Nate..."
Nate: "What?"
Sully: "We can never come back to this city again."
Nate: "Add it to the list!"
So at first I misread Sully as Sam and I just accepted it at face value and went "Yeah that makes sense"
With all of the journeys we haven't seen, it’d be funny to see how long that list actually is
@@cicada8981 At the very least off the top of my head you got Indonesia, Italy, Syria, France and Madagascar, possibly Borneo and definitely Yemen XD
Nate when he returns to America and has his house raided by an FBI team because of his crimes across the world:
@Ricky Lol very true but I am very sure they would be banned from the whole country for their crimes.
I thouthg of this too

You forgot the best moment in Sams reintroduction; Nathan doesn't mention he's married initially. He regales Sam with the stories of all his adventures and the cool shit he's done, but doesn't mention he has *a wife* until the very end as an afterthought. It's such a good moment that further demonstrates where his head's at and compliments his moment with Elena so well
I never thought about it like that, but I think you’re absolutely right.
@@hwanniggles187 killing millions of security guards and mercenaries
@HwanNiggles
Yeah, and the last stretch of the game is essentially Nathan getting one final shot at fixing his relationship with Elena and getting to choose between a life of adventure and a life of peace.
You forgot that he found the Golden Abyss alongside Chase!

Nate chose Elena and their bond, that's why 4 is great cause Nathan drop everything he would have done just to spend with Elena until Sam came
Uncharted 4 was great at leaving stories in universe through the collectibles, often as parallels to Nathan's path.
I love the “bricky is overwhelmed and needs to play with his toys” break 1/3 the way into the video, means it’s gonna be a banger.
NAPWIS!

1. No mention of Sam
2. Mother doesnt commit suicide. She dies due to terminal illness
3. Father didnt surrender Nate and Sam to the state. He straight up abandoned them at the Sir Francis school.
Also somehow Sully knew too when the past games have no mention of it. Tho considering this was Amy's idea and not Niel's, Im gonna assume it was gonna be vastly different
@@hwanniggles187 I can't understand the obsession these days regarding plot holes. Every story has them.

I would’ve liked that much more honestly.
That would explain why she is kinda just there in this one.

The Elena and Nate dialogue in this game in my opinion is the best dialogue out of all of the games period.
@@Road_to_Dawn yeah bricky said it in the video, but their relationship is probably the best of any game I’ve played I think

Greatness can come from anywhere. Even the middle class.
I’m glad you mentioned For Better or Worse, imo probably one of the most fitting and well-crafted pieces ever composed for an OST
I missed it at first too. But I guess the whole point is that no supernatural creature or curse could be as destructive as human greed and selfishness
@@abeeragarwal4516 I mean Nathan is like a perfectly normal name
The dialogue about Sully looking good for his years is absolutely fantastic
She got to live because she's a black woman.
ill be honest, when he broke Nathan's sword, while explaining how he hasnt earned anything except that, that everything has been handed to him in a silver platter except that, i mean what can i say i was rooting for him, and i almost velibed nathan was gonna talk his way out of it, let him keep the treasure and everyone is lives happily ever after, it made me sad to see him die like that
I agree Rafe didn't deserve to die he wasn't one of the irredeemable villains from the other games.

Just like Elena and Nate have out lasted many famous and powerful people.
also makes Elena's joke of being late to the party even more fitting
It made bold choices for the ending of a series that was already over, and it worked very well, still would have loved to have some pirate monsters, or a sea monster or something like that
That moment when you're currently building a Kratos tank while watching this video, and Bricky pauses, only to announce that he too has built a Kratos tank... Ah what a satisfying feeling

In a statement from Troy he said that he and Nolan were “not okay” but that they would be, that was last year and as of right now none of us know if they ever matched things up or not.
I bet they bum each other
I don’t know why, but the Sully “Coaches Don’t Play” bit is my favorite part of the video.
Ah it’s always a good day when u can start it with a Bricky vid
Man exactly, when they first introduced Sam I was like "WTF they ruined it, Nate works better in solo" but now I couldn't imagine Nate without Sam
The whole vibe of uncharted 4 is just unmatched by any game ever for me I absolutely love it and made me fall in love with the real life Henry Avery guns way story
An hour and a half long video on a 6 year old game that I’m still obsessed with is exactly what I needed today
The thing about that second encounter with Nadine is that she loses. You literally show them holding her hostage after they beat her in a fight.
I've miss the "supernatural" bosses and enemies, but it is an amazing game.
Wouldve been cool if the skeletons came alive
@@mjl11 True!
But I mean was there ever supernatural stuff in Uncharted when you think about it? The 1st one had some gas infection thingy, the 2nd one had some healing liquid and the 3rd one had poop water. You can conjure up some biological explanation. A stretch for sure, but no ghosts or something like that
I always felt like the supernatural stuff was the "worst part" of the older games so I kinda appreciate that they decided to move away from it (worst part here being relative because of how good the games are)
@@steelbear2063so zombies infected by a cursed artifact that have been around for almost 500 years can be explained by biological means?
1:21:54 I fucking love the talbot edit whenever bricky mentions him lmfao
32:57 idk why but that scene your bonking Nathan’s head with that snap sound effect at the end made me laugh way to hard
Also thank you for the 90 minute video bro.
And then when he's confronting Nate, he's still not wrong:
'Nathan Drake raced a madman and his entire army to the steps of Shambala'
'Nathan Drake found a lost city in the middle of the Rub' al Khali desert'
'Nathan Drake discovered the fabled El Dorado'
And then calls him 'legend' before his flurries become ridiculous. And right at the end:
'You just don't know when to give up, do you? That's good. Don't hand it to me. I've had everything handed to me on a goddamn silver platter. Everything except THIS. I earned this.'
He has had everything given to him.
You're overthinking a gameplay mechanic that has been around for around 2 decades
@@steelbear2063 its confirmed thats how it is
@@hwanniggles187
Confirmed? Wait, hold the phone, they really took a simple gameplay mechanic that has been around for a long-аss time in a legion of games and went "yep, that's our brilliant idea"?
Wow! That's incredible. It's like when some games make the screen more red the more you are hurt and one guy just goes "yeah, I've come up with this thing where the more your character is hurt, the more angry he gets, starts seeing red". Unbelievable bullshit, the absolute balls and nerve on Naughty Dog devs. I literally cannot get over it
@@steelbear2063 yup they did. There’s an old Dev interview where they say it
@@steelbear2063 why are you so mad at that
The pirate utopia falling apart because the people who made their fame stealing from others stole the treasury is funny, ngl.
Resident Evil 4 is arguably the best resident evil (and in the top 10 games of all time), so I guess it isn’t unheard of for a fourth outing to be really really good
Your best work yet. Thorough and funny game breakdown, as always, but also a lot of heart! (the story of your history near the end)
Well done
40:58 we also need to take a moment to appreciate that this puzzle is made much easier if the player knows who Guybrush Threepwood is
Oh yeah. I was so excited to see him when I first played, and every time afterwards.
Love how every uncharted video is double the length of the last one
1:20:00
man as a "underdog" i want to say that i HATE it when people act like being in a disadvantage is something "good" or "helpful" and they just glamorize having awful things and luck in life and its so weird. being "privileged" isnt something anyone should see as an advantage really, it is every human's right to have a loving family and something to eat and a place to sleep.
its so sad how people look at "privileged" people and say "yeah he doesnt deserve it because he wasnt in prison for 1532 years" and as a random guy on the internet i am proud of you and your videos and channel and everything you do and create. you make people feel your feelings when you talk about things and its f***ing amazing to watch and puts a smile on my face.
You know I was waiting for this the whole day, just thinking to myself "Is it gonna release?" and here it is. Keep up the good work Bricky
His "death" happens in a flashback AFTER we see him alive in present day.
the subtle music cue whenever there is a tense scene between Nate & Elena.
Phenomenal.
As satisfying as it may be to take down the armored truck, I just can't get over how Nate did it
I've seen that thing bust through BUILDINGS, and you expect me to believe Nate shooting his little gun actually did damage to it?
Honestly, every time I see Uncharted 4's intro (right after Sam's "death"), I get goosebumps
This video was excellent! Hell, this whole series was great. Would love to see more of these types of videos from you.
I remember crying from happiness and sadness at the same time at the end. It was so sad its over but so nice to have them happy.
I think if Naughty Dog ever did a sequel to this game it'd have to be through the perspective of their daughter after she's grown up a bit. I just think the ending to Nathan is so final that there really couldn't be a tasteful way to put him back into the action after we see the amazing ending that 4 had.
Seeing you're video and thinking it over the case with Nate and Elana can be a example of why being honest with one's partner matters greatly.
I like that 20mins into a 1 and a half hour video Bricky had to take a break. Also kudos to the editor, everything is just so damn funny
