The minimum wage in Portugal is around $700 per month, so you can definitely live in Portugal for less than $2000.
Especially if you move away from big city centers such as Lisbon and Porto.
I really enjoy your content, just to mention that public schools in Portugal teach the same program as private schools and after year 9 you actually get better chances of getting into a good university by attending public rather than private schools.

My grandma left Portugal on a boat in the 1900 to Brazil and I moved from Brazil to Canada and now to the USA only to maybe retire in Portugal.......Essa terrinha muito amada!

Wow, I live in a low cost of living area in the Midwest US, and the cost of living in Portugal absolutely blows us out of the water. That is incredible!!!! Especially the utilities and health care costs. It really makes you think... 🤔
Yes, we lived in California! But, Portugal is really affordable compared to almost all areas in the U.S. It does make one think . . .

Portuguese here: See the benefits of changing the diesel car to a LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), it´s way cheaper. Via verde for the roads tools, check the local farmers markets instead of "supermarkets stores" and maybe change a little of the lawn to a Portuguese pavement with basalt and limestone. (is not that cheap but it´s beautiful and no maintenance needed). And you have the right to a Family Doctor appointed to you in the near hospital or Health center (centro de saúde). Good Luck!

While our pavement are nice and belongs to our culture, I don't consider them the best investment and they can even be dangerous (slippery) when it rains.

The first time I visited Portugal, I fell in love with the country right away. I mean I’ve been to France, Spain and England but Portugal is my favorite. I feel very much at home here but more importantly the people are genuinely nice.

Haha! Yes! And there are no restrictions on foreigners owning homes here in Portugal!
Haha, I know, right? 😂 the only place I can think of that beats that is Congo-Brazzaville, where there are absolutely NO property taxes. Over there, once you own your house, you really own it.
12:19-12:28 is so true, the longer you live anywhere, you find more and more ways to lower your expenses. I bet if you did the same video one year from now the differences would be very interesting.

That's what happens with a universal public health care system. It lows prices of practice to the actual cost of it. But it has to be sustained with taxes on revenues everyone has to pay, if you want to use it. That forces the private healthcare market to low prices. Well, you have the Canada example next to you, which I don't know thoroughly, but I believe is similar to most european. For instance, Swizterland changed its public health system to a private insurance based one a few years ago. Now costs are rocketing year after year, as insurance companies profits. My brother lives there and his (single no children) is over $7000 a year. He had a anckle surgery 2 years ago bc he hurt himself playing rugby, that was $10k co-payment
I know! I just had to make a mental note to schedule mine before my plan goes up again. Ugh

Congrats on the new home! and thanks for sharing this! Moved to Lisbon after 10+ years living in Manhattan in NYC, I was floored when I paid $4.50 for an oat milk latte AND a breakfast sandwich! Just 1 cup of coffee alone in NYC was $7.50 daily, and the breakfast sandwich would have been $8-10!
I know right?! I was in Lisbon in the summer and found a place where I could get a sandwich (nice baguette with cheese and tomato) for $3 Canadian!! Love it!

Cartels in the US. My modest home taxes went from $2,000 a year to $5,000 in about 15 years in the US. Dont even talk about the health insurance cartels! You get a major illness in the US and youre on the street, even with "insurance"!
