    Great job! I am a portuguese from Braga, and a plus i would mention is that Braga will recive high speed trains in 2030-2035, the project is confirmed and this will conect Braga-Vigo(spain) in 30 min and Braga - Porto airport in 20 min.
    Coimbra and Aveiro will also benefit a lot from this project reducing the time to Porto/Lisbon by hours.🙂

      Braga has a university, and a great vibe! Braga has a big Brazilian expat community. It was one of my favorite cities in Portugal. As opposed to Coimbra, which was a bit startling, because there were people shooting up drugs at the entrance to the grocery store. Sinatra, however, takes the cake! Absolutely magnificent!

      @@ExpatsEverywhere Would have loved a final list with the cities listed by healthcare, with the green ones at top, the red ones on the bottom. They all run together as the video rolls by, so a final list would be helpful, especially for retirees for whom healthcare access is a particular consideration. For example, I only recall Porto as green; Gaia was yellow (?), but of course bing adjecent to Porto it could still be a good choice.
      And that brings me to my second wish list item. An indication of how long it would take to get from each yellow city to a green city. A 20 minute distance is very different from 90 minutes... But thanks for the video. Very informative. Maybe a video dedicated to expat retirees in the future, or did you already make one recently?
      Last, has the tax benefit for expat retirees completely disappeared? Does this mean 47% tax on all passive income, such as social security, 401Ks, etc. That would be a deal-breaker. Pension income was not taxed for 10 years. I could take 10%, maybe 15%, maybe even 20% if it did not have a timeframe limit (if it was locked in). But a marginal tax climbing to 47%? I would think that would eliminate 90% of new incoming retirees and their money...

    Good video, Josh. Could I give you a challenge? Make a video about Central Portugal. No farther north than Aveiro, no farther south than Leiria, but stay off the coast. And the last parameter - towns with 50,000 people or less. There are so many scenic, historic towns in this area. You would be the first to do a video like this that I've seen (and I live in Central Portugal so my radar's up!). Obrigada

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
      @ExpatsEverywhere  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Thank you, Beth. I don't think we're willing to accept that challenge. We couldn't do it justice. These videos take a lot of resources (time, money and sometimes both) to do. There's probably a reason that there's not a comprehensive video guide out there about the topic. My guess is that it just wouldn't get people's attention. I mean, there's an outside chance that it's done like a Peter Santenello-style, but unfortunately, that's just not us. You know? We don't have a car, we have Cia in school, our audience isn't the Santenello-style, so straight out of the gate it wouldn't get the views for TH-cam to pick it up.
      Sorry, that's just my honest response. I'm sure it's not what you wanted to hear but it's the truth. We simply couldn't pull it off well. - Josh

      We've been looking at Tavira. Mediterranean climate, close to Spain, close to the rest of the Algarve, a bit less expensive... However, housing seems very limited in Tavira and not as inexpensive as you might think as well. Porto looks attractive, but perhaps overcast and/or rainy too much? I understand Coimbra is pricey (?), and Setubal may not be next to our metropolitan area of choice (Lisbon)?

I was going to visit in February, and my friends in Portugal told me the carnival in Loulé was a good idea. But, Nick commented on one of his videos, he wasn’t such a fan of that carnival. I second that sentiment. I think the Algarve is underrated. There's isn't another part of Portugal with so many historic, picturesque, and vibrant towns all within 1 1/2hr drive. That's why I chose Portimao. If you combine Alvor and Ferragudo across the bridge where else can you have great beaches, restaurants, coastline hiking trails, good weather year round, lovely countryside to go motorcycling. If love an active lifestyle and the outdoors, it's hard to beat the Algarves.

So i dare you to go to "Serra da Estrela" this winter (if you are allowed to get to the top because of the snow). There are gorgeous places nearby with different cultures and foods on the surrounds of the mountain. The most popular city nearby is Covilhã, but you can also explore Guarda, Fundão (visit in spring to see the flourish of cherry trees) or Castelo Branco. People that prefers the country-side will also find these places a good place to live or visit. Enjoy this trip :)

      The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. Continental Portugal is classified as either Csa, Csb, and Csc depending on where you are. Where is this Atlantic climate classification you're referring to?
      Csa = Hot-summer Mediterranean climate; coldest month averaging above 0 °C (32 °F) (or −3 °C (27 °F)), at least one month's average temperature above 22 °C (71.6 °F), and at least four months averaging above 10 °C (50 °F). At least three times as much precipitation in the wettest month of winter as in the driest month of summer, and the driest month of summer receives less than 40 mm (1.6 in).
      Csb = Warm-summer Mediterranean climate; coldest month averaging above 0 °C (32 °F) (or −3 °C (27 °F)), all months with average temperatures below 22 °C (71.6 °F), and at least four months averaging above 10 °C (50 °F). Maybe we should have listened to your video before taking our decision. We have spending 5 weeks in Portimão (in the algarve region), first this city is very beautiful, great restaurants outside tourists center. This being said I would compare Portimão to Atlantic ciity with the noises and young crowd who comes at the beginning of school break and love to party and drink. Each night we are awakened by their shouting and noises. We rented a beautiful apartment near the beach but would never have thought the night life would have so nosy.
    Some people living here told us that the cities on the Atlantic side are very humid and it makes them feel even colder during the beginning of the year. Do you agree? Are all cities with beaches all noisy and have night life like in Portimão?

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
      @ExpatsEverywhere  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! No, Portimão is probably the "worst" for that. It's known to be that kind of destination. Humidity is a "problem" in many areas of Portugal not just cities and towns along the Atlantic.
