Dear Dr Ellis, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and lifestyle with all of us. Your dermatology advise is priceless and your practical insights in different aspects of being a mother are a precious to me too (as a mom sometime in the near future, I hope!) I would very much appreciate if you do a video on your current hair routine as a mom, whole things that you do for your hair, how you manage the post pregnancy hair loss etc. Your hair looks very good, like it used to before pregnancy. Thank you.
Aw thank you. Motherhood is certainly a rollercoaster and things don’t always go as smoothly as they did in this video! Happy to do a hair update. I’ve been shedding a ton and noticed a big change in my hair density. When it’s freshly washed it’s hard to tell, but as soon as it gets a little oily…game over 🤪
Aw thank you so much. It’s definitely a lot to take on but I try to remind myself that it’s all “good” things. Some days certainly go more smoothly than others 🤪
SO MUCH WATER while feeding my twins. And ice cream every night (which I only recently gave up even though they are now five and they only fed until they were two). I both miss those days and I also am very relieved to be done with that particular season. Your baby is adorable!
Thanks for sharing what you eat in a day. I am not a mum, but we're always busy with work, language classes (because we love learning new languages) and whatever else, so my husband and I usually prep our lunch meals and afternoon snacks (I love dates too, so I make energy balls and vegan fudge) in the weekend for the week ahead. I have noticed this keeps us healthy and we get to eat versatile and delicious food. I know some people think it's not versatile if you eat the same thing 5 times a week, but our dinners vary and are usually something easy to prepare. Every week we prepare something different for our work week lunches. Honestly, nowadays even salads can be so varied 🥗 When you said you eat pre-packed salads, I though you meant you go to a coffee shop or a supermarket where these are chopped and boxed on the day. I am not sure how any nutrients are still available in a chopped and packaged salad like yours as it seems this can last forever. Do you know what the trick is? When it comes to evenings I am like you: I need something sweet. I don't call it a dessert but an indulgent snack as it doesn't usually include any added sugar. I used to be addicted to chocolate with nuts, so now my go-to evening snack is banana with nut butter (without any sugar or palm oil added, just nuts and maybe a pinch of sea salt). I alternate with other fruits and sometimes I have nuts, rather than nut butter. I love the sweet and salty combination with some crunch 😋
I love to eat balanced too, I eat oatmeal everyday & smoothies too. My milk supply goes up a lot when I do and drink tons of water. Colorful salads are my new thing too. Theo is so cute 🥰 & mama is glowing too ❤️

First of all, as a fellow millennial doctor, I just want to say thank you for keeping things real with your IG and youtube posts! There are so many times when I get stressed about work/life balance. Making healthy choices most of the time is tough but important. And the work chocolate drawer is a must visit daily! I will be having my first child soon (all of your videos on Theo and being a new mom have been a real treat) and I am worried about being away for so long during the day...how do you handle childcare? Does your husband work from home/take care of Theo during the day or do you have a babysitter/nanny/daycare? Do you work different hours/days? Thanks!!
Thank you! And huge congratulations!! Right now my husband watches him but starting soon we will have a full time nanny. It’s definitely hard being away from him during the day because I miss him SO much. My advice to you would be to take as much maternity leave as you can, and then see if you can return to work on some type of part-time schedule. I slowly added clinic days back in and I kept an extra admin day to spend with Theo. So many of my physician colleagues gave me the advice to not sacrifice time with your baby just for work, as many regret spending so much time away from their child in the early years. Everyone’s job allows them to approach this differently, but that’s sort of the perspective I’ve based my decisions off of.
This is the first video I have watched from your channel and I love your personality towards working, raising a family and food. You just radiate positivity! Not to get too personal but could you discuss balancing work and new motherhood? Do you use a daycare? Mom guilt about going back to work? How do you handle the exhaustion? My husband and I are contemplating having a child and knowing that I am not made to be a SAHM makes me hesitant. Thanks!
Good question! I'd like to say that whatever you choose- don't let anyone make you feel bad about your choice! Omg Theo is so adorable!! That smile 💟 also, have you tried muesli? It’s my new favorite thing. I am taking a break from the regular oatmeal but didn’t want typical boxed cereal.
Hi Dr. Ellis. Thank you for the video! Can you please tell me what kind of oatmeal you use and how long you put the oatmeal/fruit combo in the microwave? (I never would have considered putting fruit in the microwave!! 😃
If your bag is insulated it can't go in the fridge because the fridge will change the internal temperature of the bag... Don't want you to make yourself I'll or worse... I know this because I'm a teacher & have worked in early childhood... So many of my students have those kinds of food bags & parents made the mistake of putting them in the fridge. Through work the health department put out a statement to all Kindergartens, schools etc warming about this 🇦🇺💖
Thanks for the head’s up! I don’t zip it and nothing in the bag is actually perishable overnight so the food should still be safe. But definitely something worth keeping in mind.
Hi! Unrelated to this video but I am curious if you know about the V-Beam Prima laser. I know you have talked about V-Beam before and that you have personally used it. I believe you were talking about V-Beam Perfecta. I just heard about the Prima launch and wanted to know what you thought about it. I want to get V-Beam for Rosacea and want to know if the Prima is "so AMAZING" that I should try to get it over the Perfecta. It doesn't seem like many doctors have it yet (or at least on their websites). Thanks!
Good question! Both are great lasers but no need to hold out for the Prima. Much more important is WHO is operating your laser/performing the treatment!
@@DrSamEllis That is great. I have been a nanny for twins for 8 years now since the day they were born. I think that is the best case scenario. The moms never had to miss work because I came to their house no matter what (even snowstorms-LOL)
Hi Dr.Sam! How is Theo doing with the sleep training /merlins magic sleepsuit? I just ordered one for my little guy and am hoping it truly is magic lol
He’s doing amazing! Consistently sleeps through the night. We loved that sleep suit but ended up not using it because we thought he may be getting too hot, though so many of our friends swear by it. We now use the Woolino and it seems perfect for him. It also lets him wiggle around in his crib more which is his way of self soothing.
We, in most parts of Europe, are staying with baby at home for at least 6months up to 12 - depening of a country. Those stories of returning to work after couple of weeks after birth are nightmare to me. Also pumping at work etc..
Youre breastfeeding and bring a salad with beans and added an apple?? My mind is blown. Im breastfeeding and need to pack 3 times the amount of food you did.
Disappointing that a doctor doesn’t advocate for organic and/or regeneratively grown foods. Our soils are so depleted of nutrients we should all be eating healthiest for ourselves and the environment. A multi vitamin is nearly a must for everyone given how depleted our soils and non organic food is.
“If I decline dessert, I am unwell.” No truer words have been said 🍨

Where did you get the Pour Over coffee thing? The mug and the filter holder come together? You gave me some great ideas on what to do for meal prep.
The mug is separate (it’s from Thermos) but the pour over set up is Hario
I love adding crunchy peanut butter and cinnamon to my oatmeal. BTW I just love your hair, it’s beautiful and what a handsome baby boy you have.
Which breast pump would you recommend?
I have been drinking sparkling water only, for a few years now....so refreshing and 0 calories ❤ try the la Croix key lime ...sooo good..love your channel and just subscribed
Omg!
Is that not THE MOST ADORABLE BABY??!! ❤
Dear Dr Sam, can you talk about hair loss after pregnancy and how to reduce it?
Omg Theo is so adorable!! That smile 💟 also, have you tried muesli? It’s my new favorite thing. I am taking a break from the regular oatmeal but didn’t want typical boxed cereal.
Ah thank you ☺️And I have tried it but not for many years! Maybe I need to revisit it.
Further evidence that women are superheroes
you are literally the epitome of what i want to be
Hi Dr. Ellis. Thank you for the video! Can you please tell me what kind of oatmeal you use and how long you put the oatmeal/fruit combo in the microwave? (I never would have considered putting fruit in the microwave!! 😃
I use Trader Joe’s quick oats. It all goes in for about 2.5 minutes!
Thank you for the quick reply!! Also, I love and appreciate your videos!! Thank you for taking the time the time to make them!!
Adorable!
Will you please share what you ask your hair colorist for when getting your hair colored? Thank you! 😊
OMG, I HATE washing lettuce, too! I thought it was just me, lol.
Where is your gold bracelet from please? Xx
Do you mind sharing where is your brown cardigan from? (The bath time episode) looks so comfy and great quality!
I LOVE this cardigan. Def an investment but I wear it constantly. It’s by Storq. I think my code DRSAMTEN still works for 10% off!
@@DrSamEllis looking for it right now! New mom need cute+ comfy longe wear. Thank you so much for replying!!
Sorry if you’ve already mentioned this but what breast pump do you use and do you like it? Thanks x
Spectra 1! Love it
Love your tan sweater! Where is it from??
If your bag is insulated it can't go in the fridge because the fridge will change the internal temperature of the bag... Don't want you to make yourself I'll or worse... I know this because I'm a teacher & have worked in early childhood... So many of my students have those kinds of food bags & parents made the mistake of putting them in the fridge. Through work the health department put out a statement to all Kindergartens, schools etc warming about this 🇦🇺💖
Ill**
Thanks for the head’s up! I don’t zip it and nothing in the bag is actually perishable overnight so the food should still be safe. But definitely something worth keeping in mind.
Love those dates!
Theo is gorgeous
Hi Dr sam i'm breastfeeding too can i using the retnol for my face? because i have hyperpigmentaion .
NO you cannot use retinol while you are breastfeeding!
@@Selene965 thanks
@@DrSamEllis thank you so much!!
Curious what you do for childcare. From the video it sounded like your husband stays home with Theo. Is he working from home?
He’s on paternity leave and then we’ll have a nanny
@@DrSamEllis That is great. I have been a nanny for twins for 8 years now since the day they were born. I think that is the best case scenario. The moms never had to miss work because I came to their house no matter what (even snowstorms-LOL)
I love your necklace! Where is it from? :)
Thank you it’s Mejuri!
Theo is beautiful!
Thank you so much ☺️
We, in most parts of Europe, are staying with baby at home for at least 6months up to 12 - depening of a country. Those stories of returning to work after couple of weeks after birth are nightmare to me. Also pumping at work etc..
Wish it could be different!
I think I am also a millennial barely (1982!), it's so weird to think about! May I ask how tall you are? I am 5'11" and you seem lengthy as well!💜
and I just looked up your practice, I grew up in Alamo😂 Went to SRVHS. Small world. We are in Houston now and miss the East Bay so much.
Do you worry about the injectable ingredients you use in your derm and skin care leaching into your breast milk?
😘 Theo is so beautiful...♥️♥️♥️
What did I eat when breastfeeding? Pop Tarts. I was sooooo skinny lol
Theo is a cute name.
Youre breastfeeding and bring a salad with beans and added an apple??
My mind is blown.
Im breastfeeding and need to pack 3 times the amount of food you did.
I’m making enough milk and my baby is growing well, so this seems to work for me. However, everyone’s needs are different!
Man, I got arthritis just watching what she eats!
She looks like Ross wife from friends.
Wait until full menopause hits - skinny me now has no waist!
Well this was lame
