It was NOTHING like having cellphones to where you can call even for free from an app via wifi even if you don't have service. Fluffy is one comedian who doesn't have to be GROSS or vulgar to be funny. Sure he uses profanity very rarely, but it's effective when he does it. But it's not the core of his comedy. His comedy is brilliant because it's NOT based on shock or crassness. He is amazing!

Just flip phones that had the ability to call and text to call our ride. Honestly, if I ever have kids, I'll probably do the same. Parents these days seem too dependent on cellular devices to raise their kids for them. It's a damn shame.
It's not so black and white though in our generation, we all put up with our 9 to 5s now, but 70% of americans live pay check to pay check. And it's only getting worse. When the manufacturing jobs automated, suicide and crime sky rocketed. They had government retraining programs but only 10% of the applicants were successful. And today we don't have that luxury, as truck driving, call centers, desk jobs, even advanced professions like CGI and VFX are being automated. Within the next decade we're going to be truly experiencing the fourth industrial revolution. As half of this country loses their jobs without an alternative present. Scary times since people pride themselves on their jobs.
I love it and so true! Growing up in the 70s and 80s, we had great music, but no cell phones. I love Gabriel's comedy! He seems very kind and down to earth. It's not easy raising children. God Bless Gabriel!

I have one of those. I paid $5 at the clearance table at Walmart. I got a 90 day card for $19.95. I was good to go for $25. I have that an my 1948 bell Pacific Telephone.
My cousin worked for a phone company in California in the 1940's and 1950's. Then he moved back east and had some phones he brought with him. Seems that he was told to toss some phones in the trash by his employer but instead he took them home and fixed them up and made them work. When he came back east he gave them to my grandmother. Her old phone at that point was a candle stick phone they had since the 1920's so this was a new modern innovation. She actually got three of them. One for her bedroom, one for the kitchen and one for the living room all on the same line. So then when my parents got married in 1959 my grandparents gave them the one in the living room since the never used that one. My mom used it as her primary phone until 1988. Then she got a new phone and was going to throw away that one but I offered to take it off her hands a I had never had my own phone up to that point. So I've had it 31 years. I had to get it adapted to the new circuits a few years ago since our phone company no longer supports analog phones. It still rings and you can still dial out with an actual dial. Very cool. An antique dealer friend of mine calls it a Lucy phone since it's the same model that appears on the "I LOVE LUCY" series from the 1950's ironically set in New York but filmed in Hollywood where the prop master obtained the phone.
Well that just means that the kid still gets what he wants. Not really disciplining him to take care of the shit that's been given to him. He's making his kid understand that sure you can buy a new one but you shouldnt have lost or had it stolen in the first place.
It’s not a luxury when the kid needs to contact their parents, their school, or the police somehow .-. Break ins & emergencies happen a lot more often than you think

It's not supposed to be an issue now unless you're actively making it an issue... If someone needed to contact someone, when cell phones were starting their craze - even when you paid per minute/text, you got a call from your friends, or even a random person - because empathy is something people have for one another. Before then, people were shouting "call the police!" or "help, someone get a doctor!" or running into a building asking to use a landline to phone in something... You don't NEED a cell phone. It's a luxury. It was never NEEDED when you have other options at your disposal. It's just a convenience and nothing more. Besides, when does it just so happen that for a day someone loses their phone and THAT day is the ONLY day they need an emergency call? It's not that often - and people STILL make emergency without a cell phone. And not just here in the US, but all over the world. It's a luxury. If you honestly can't deal without a cell phone, natural selection has been slacking on the job and you should deserve to be it's next intimate relationship if you can't improvise like the generations upon generations before you. When I was still in high school, I had to buy my own phone. Now at 23 years old, I am thankful my mum made me buy my own phone, because it showed I had the responsibility to take care of my stuff, or else it would cost a lot of money to replace. If I had a kid like Frankie, I would make him earn his stuff just like how I had to.
When you’re a kid, you don’t need one, but when you’re an adult, or in college, you need one, unfortunately. Cuz the only way to contact work or professors is you need to call work, or email teachers. Email is also if the professor got announcements/cancellations too. Back then, you could just call with the house phone, but almost no one gotta house phone. And now, at least high school, you do have to email teachers cuz it’s a blocked schedule now, so you don’t see the same teachers everyday. I get that he’s trying to teach his kid a lesson, but if someone steals something from you, it ain’t your fault, it’s theirs. If someone stole from your house, it ain’t your fault, as long as you had your doors locked and/or security. He’s gonna learn the hard way that yeah, you can get robbed, but only certain things are luxuries. A phone with apps, sure, luxury, but the phone itself, is a strong necessity. I don’t know how old Frankie is, but he’s gonna actually need one once he’s in high school, etc. Heck, Gabriel needs one in order to get in touch with his manager to do shows, or if he ever needs to cancel, or do a new show, as he’s pointed out several times. I just hope Frankie doesn’t take this too hard and realizes he should maybe just have his phone in his pocket. That’s the only thing I could think of that he does different.

My parents spammed the home phone with credit card companies and people they don’t want to talk to so I never answer it especially if it’s an unknown number. So I’ve probably missed a bunch of call backs from jobs who want me to come in for an interview. Plus they sometimes call during my class and when i get home and check the missed calls I see the job. :/ hopefully I can get one soon.

My family had a system; My dad would keep his phone until he could upgrade, get the new one, give me the old one, and I would give my old phone to my mom. It just made more sense that way, rather than panicking about getting the newest phone.

When I was still in high school, I had to buy my own phone. Now at 23 years old, I am thankful my mum made me buy my own phone, because it showed I had the responsibility to take care of my stuff, or else it would cost a lot of money to replace. When you’re a kid, you don’t need one, but when you’re an adult, or in college, you need one, unfortunately. Cuz the only way to contact work or professors is you need to call work, or email teachers. Email is also if the professor got announcements/cancellations too. Back then, you could just call with the house phone, but almost no one gotta house phone. And now, at least high school, you do have to email teachers cuz it’s a blocked schedule now, so you don’t see the same teachers everyday.
I get that he’s trying to teach his kid a lesson, but if someone steals something from you, it ain’t your fault, it’s theirs. If someone stole from your house, it ain’t your fault, as long as you had your doors locked and/or security. He’s gonna learn the hard way that yeah, you can get robbed, but only certain things are luxuries. A phone with apps, sure, luxury, but the phone itself, is a strong necessity. I don’t know how old Frankie is, but he’s gonna actually need one once he’s in high school, etc. Heck, Gabriel needs one in order to get in touch with his manager to do shows, or if he ever needs to cancel, or do a new show, as he’s pointed out several times. I just hope Frankie doesn’t take this too hard and realizes he should maybe just have his phone in his pocket. That’s the only thing I could think of that he does different.

Tyrone Johnsino lmao yah, I’m a teenager but don’t have phone, but I actually need one for jobs. My parents spammed the home phone with credit card companies and people they don’t want to talk to so I never answer it especially if it’s an unknown number. So I’ve probably missed a bunch of call backs from jobs who want me to come in for an interview. Plus they sometimes call during my class and when i get home and check the missed calls I see the job. :/ hopefully I can get one soon.

My family had a system; My dad would keep his phone until he could upgrade, get the new one, give me the old one, and I would give my old phone to my mom. It just made more sense that way, rather than panicking about getting the newest phone.
