Scuffs and scratches are just signs you love it enough to wear it. For me, a watch that sits in a box or safe, because I want to keep it perfect is useless. That is a beautiful watch that will be a lasting symbol of your wife’s love. Cherish it forever!❤️
I bought the blue 38mm Aqua Terra (latest version with Co-Axial 8800) and I literally cannot take it off or stop looking at it. Very special experience getting my first proper piece and I have absolutely no buyer's remorse. Its perfect.
Nice video! 👍👍 In Spain, the tradition has always been to buy the man a watch when you get engaged. My wife, who is Spanish, bought me a lovely watch in 1991. My mother in law bought my father in law an Omega in 1955, which we are currently having restored. Can’t wait to get it back! 😃
My wife bought me an Omega Chronostop when we got engaged. That was 48 years ago on the 1st of July. The watch and the marriage are still going strong. Two Seamster 300 have joined the collection since then but my Chronostop still gets worn. Reminds me that I must get it serviced 😂
Jody, I bought my husband’s wedding ring and a watch when we got married. I didn’t have a love of money 25 years ago so I was proud that I had saved up and was able to do that for him. Unfortunately I didn’t know back then much about watch brands. Thanks to folks like you, I can buy him a quality watch. Thanks to you, in particular, I now know quality for the money can come at many different price points. Thank you for great content as always.
Recently got myself an aqua terra as a present for raising my 1 year old baby girl. My waiting time for the olive green 41mm is less than a month and got it at the best possible retail price. Hearing your stories makes me more in love with the brand, how they make this realm of horology accessible to our personal life milestones. Thanks for sharing, Mate. Keep it up!
I’m a big Omega fan. They are very accurate, reliable, well finished, and (in my opinion) so beautiful! The seamaster aqua terra worldtimer is definetly my grail watch.
Great to get some personal insight into the life of Jody. That Omega is certainly a under the radar stunner 👌 I guess one of the problems with Omega is there catalogue is so vast with many many home runs, it's hard to pick one to saddle up for life with.
Not the everyday watch review. I love it if the watch is not only for sell but the emotional part of someones life. Suddenly the watch makes more sense. But also without the pre history of your watch, the Aqua Terra is an incredible watch itself.
My wife also got me an Aqua Terra, blue dial with the fully brushed bracelet, version before yours. It's such a versatile watch and I love that it has the quick set hour instead of a quick set date.
Omega is my favorite brand as well, My Grandfather's Omega Geneve started this whole obsession for me. watching him wind it every morning on visits was hypnotizing. I bought my own Omega Seamaster Professional 22.54.50.00 after saving for it for 7 years in 2007, and when my grandfather passed away my grandmother gave me his Omega Geneve completing the circle for me.
Possibly my favourite video of yours Jody. The thing I love most about watch collecting is how the watches interact and intersect with everyday life. Most of the time, they are on the wrist to be enjoyed, but sometimes they become part of a bigger event or are a formative element of something special (as this watch clearly was in your engagement). The special watch in my collection is the eminently more humble but no less loved, Seiko SND255P1 'Flightmaster' Blue Dial bought for me by my wife when I got my PhD. As you mentioned in the video, I think I may start the tradition of the 'Diamond Anniversary Black Bay'. Thanks again Jody - and best to Mrs JOMW.
Jody, I pick up the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for myself a few years ago, in the midnight blue (date at 3 O’clock) with the polish centre links, but knew that I also wanted to wear the watch on occasion on the blue leather strap. I did a bit of negotiating with the Omega boutique (Oxford Street London) and came away with a fantastic Omega and my “free” XL leather strap. The watch looks nice on the bracelet but I agreed it would look even better with brushed links vice the polished (centre links) but when I put it on the beautiful blue Omega leather strap it looks out of this world. A true keeper and one of the most versatile timepieces I have ever seen or owned (from the seaside, to casual, to a suit and tie, as well as a tuxedo) it is truly a one watch for all occasions.
I love your idea for new gift giving tradition. My wife and I are just now celebrating 20 years together. I have gifted her the engagement ring she always wanted, and she in return has gifted me with Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, that I have always wanted. Everyone is happy!
I bought my James Bond LE Aquaterra in 2015 as a bit of an impulse buy, saw it in the Goldsmiths shop window, walked in , was told it was their only piece, took 10 seconds to decide, yes I wanted it and have not looked back once or regretted it. It’s a keeper in the collection and the pleasure I get every time it goes on wrist is simply delightful.
My lovely wife asks for suggestions before buying me a watch. She knows my style choices, but knows nothing else of watches. I am lucky to have a wife willing to indulge my obsession!❤️
It's also overpriced as all hell. It's kinda silly how the smp300 is yeah less versatile but like 1000 bucks less. Even the speedmaster co axial is alot cheaper.
Is this not the heartiest, most wholesome content on all of TH-cam or what? Congrats Jody, you're winning in life. Long may the winning continue my friend!
Polished middle links are the reason why I went for the first gen. model. And I did the right thing, the watch is awesome and it serves me as a daily wear/beater, but also for some more formal occasions. And I like the plain black dial, very understated but nevertheless beautiful. So, that's what I suggest to anyone : if you don't like the blingy parts of newer bracelets, just go for the older model, instead of hating or butchering the fine watch.
I’ve been a subscriber to this channel for about 8 months and I enjoy your content and reviews extensively. This is, by far, my favorite video! It was great getting a real glimpse into your personal experience. Your passion for this hobby bleeds through the screen. Keep up the great work! Beautiful Aqua Terra, BTW...on my shortlist for sure
I was taking a sip of coffee when you mentioned the "cheesy proposal." That made me laugh and partially irrigate my nostrils at the same time. I'm just glad my computer survived. Thanks for the review, Jody. I was looking at getting one.
Great Episode! My wife got me a Movado Museum watch when we got married, '91. at the time it was a hot watch. It still a beautiful dial. Left the battery in there too long, need to get it serviced. :-). The Aqua Terra is my Grail Watch!!
I like to watch your videos at 0.25 speed. It's like having a one sided conversation with an annoying watch geek in a pub after they've had one too many pints.
I had not watched this video until today, ironically similar watch story to mine. Last month I picked up a similar watch, same generation no frame 3 o'clock date window vertical lines (white dial 41.5) and hated the polished center links. I properly fell in love with it when I had the bracelet brushed look how it should have from the beginning. Good stuff!
Just bought the white/silver dial same model myself today. Cannot wait to get it. Ordered the black rubber strap with orange stiching from Singapore, we’ll se how that works when I get it in 30-45 days! lol 🤷🏼♂️ This has been a long trek to get to this watch, I once had my Dad’s original ‘48 SS Seamaster, but gave it to a sibling that sqaundered it, sadly. So, short of getting the special edition platinum re-issue, this is it for me. And I agree with another commentor, this is your best vid-and I have watched hundreds, I reckon. Cheers mate.
Got the same 38.5 AT as my engagement gift too! One generation older, no polished links, grey dial and with the bordered date window. It started my appreciation for watches 😊
Great video! I have had my 38.5mm AT since November 2017. Purchased it for reaching a career milestone. A definite keeper. Keep making great content 👍🏼👍🏼
I've just joined the Omega Club after buying the 41mm Aqua Terra for my 50th birthday and I love it! In the AD I had this lined up with the Speedmaster Moon Watch and a Tudor Black Bay Red Bezel. I so made the right decision! 41mm has 20mm lug width so I can easily change straps so you don't scratch up those polished mid-links!! Mine is the 8900 movement and is currently running pretty much at -1 second per day. It's my first serious Swiss watch (I don't really count my Tag F1!) and like yours, it's definitely a keeper!
Snap! I also received my Aqua Terra as an engagement present from my then fiancée (now my wife). We went to the Omega boutique in central London together where I chose the 38.5mm blue "Skyfall" 8500 (ref. 231.10.39.21.03.001), and I have been in love with it ever since. I wore it on my wedding day, despite it having been overtaken by a Rolex Sub 16600 that I picked up at a later date (was my grail watch at the time). Despite having strong competition in the collection (the sub has since been sold and various other models purchased) it's this piece that has cemented its place as a keeper. My version was released just before the polished centre links (which I also dislike) so aesthetically it's perfect in every area. I still think the AT is an underrated watch in lots of ways so it's always good to see it getting some profile. Enjoy yours and thanks for sharing the story :)
Jodi your engagement sounded very thoughtful and cute! Good job mate, and good job to Mrs JOMW for having your engagement watch on hand and ready as well.
Having owned this watch (42mm) for almost ten years I can't help but agree with all your comments - the strap has been the most frustrating part of my relationship - I'm a NATO fan and have a drawer full of options, settling this month for a black leather strap which alternates with velcro on green webbing and a heavy recycled fire-hose strap with brass fittings, which has a thin strip behind the watch hence it all sits flush. As a surveyor, keen cyclist and motorcyclist who occasionally takes the kayak down the river I can't bring myself to wear a traditional bracelet or strap in case one of the pins fails or springs, in which instance the watch would be lost forever! Constantly pondering the Speedy, but since they're not waterproof I have reservations! Great review, glad you like the AT - mine is also a daily wear and has never, not ever let me down!! Best wishes, Daniel, York UK
Hey Jody - I toured the Opera House when I was in Sydney this past February! Fabulous place - attended a recital in one of the smaller performance rooms. Loved Sydney, Melbourne, and Tasmania - will definitely return.
My 39.5mm 10 year old AT is by far my favorite time piece and the one I will likely never part with. They really do represent the "any occasion" watch just so well.
I agree, I own a Planet Ocean Master Chronometer that I am besotted with, and that thing runs like a quartz movement... About once a month I adjust it, never by more than 2-3 seconds. Have Omega take a look at yours Jody.
Funny how things remind you of things. I've been wearing watches since grade school, and I remember on numerous occasions sitting in class bored, deliberately reflecting sunlight off my cheap watches onto things in the classroom or other kids. At some point I guess anti-reflective coatings became ubiquitous, and I forgot how much of a distraction reflections used to be.
My Korean friend told me about their culture's tradition of exchanging rings and watches for wedding engagements. I thought it was a great idea and a wonderful way to attach a story to the timepiece.
Always love Omega's from the time I got a Seamaster in 1966 for my 21st birthday complete with rice grain bracelet. This was followed by a Speedmaster Moonwatch and finally a 1970's Omega Deville Quartz GP with integral bracelet. Added a Rolex Datejust, Tudor Day-Date and a Corum 'Jolly Roger' Bubble Chronometer 1 of 500 (Birthday present frommy wife). Added a Pagani Design Submariner two tone with blue dial after reading your reviews and finally a Casio Royale. Love the videos, keep up the good work, all the best from the UK
Everybody commenting about the watch... but did anyone notice the huge stone on that engament ring?! Well done Jody! I bet your wife was very happy. You deserve the aqua terra
Excellent review/"Love Story" Jody! The bracelet looks like a factory brushing in one of the pics, so the person who refinished it did an excellent job. Anyway, keep up the great work!
Jody your wife has excellent taste. I’ve only got one Omega Seamaster (bought it in 1979) and to me it is just a classic watch. Hope to get another one soon.
my wife bought me a new "old stock" 41mm golf edition aqua terra with the 8500 movement. i'm so glad it came with a un polished bracelet. its perfect and my first luxury watch.
Great video, my wife also bought me the Omega aqua terra 8900. I have just brushed the polished mid links myself. Only took me 20 minutes or so. Used green scotch pads. Looks just as good as my fully brushed Tudor bracelet.
Sean Robinson I’ve got a couple Scuba Dudes, I love mine. Get it on a NATO or rubber strap soon as you get it though. Don’t even try to size the factory bracelet, they’re made of actual tin.
Awesome, love that style bezel, semi chunky but slippery an non catchy! Your a Lucky Boy, welldone in Your Marriage. Beauty JOMW, the bracelet debacle, hahaha.
I owned the 1st version Aqua Terra with cal 2500 for 17 years. It’s my 1st luxury watch and I loved it. Truly a GADA watch. Just like you, I don’t like the polished mid link of the current version but I like the new movement.
Funny story. 😂 I also bought the AquaTerra 41 (blue), had the same concern about scratching the bracelet, bought the rubber strap with deployant buckle and the fill in pieces for the center of the lugs (super expensive around $750), wore that for a while and then brought a black omega leather strap and switched over the deployant. The watch dial really pops in contrast with the black leather and there is has remained
I love that you wife gave you this watch...such a wonderful idea. I am so happy for you that were able to fix the bracelet so that is way you like it Jody. Thank you for sharing your journey with this watch...I remember when you got it 😊👍
I recently sent to Omega a lovely white-dialed Constellation I'd picked up for an amazing price from a fellow addict because it was running so massively slow. They not only changed a bunch of parts (barrels, spring, crown, handset and other things I can't identify) but they also polished out a deep scratch on the lug. Now it runs perfectly and since it was all under warranty, there was no cost to me. I'd advise you get yours back to Omega asap.
Your Erebus Ascent that I bought earlier this year in purple fumé is the closest I’m going to get to an Aqua Terra vibes watch and that’s fine with me. Thanks for your great work!
I've never been a fan of Omega and Chrono's until a couple days ago when i finally got my hands on my friend's 2 Omega's , both the Speedmaster and a 36mm pre bond quatrz , wow such stunningly beautiful watches
Good video, I agree about the ring/watch engagement idea, I just need to convince my wife that it should be retrospective. The vertical stripes are much better than the horizontal ones, it would be better still without any in my view.
What a wonderful story, thanks for sharing, it shows how much the hobby gets into our lives it’s not about buying and keeping in a box in the safe. Like you my watches show the use and that shows how much I love them. Thanks again, brilliant piece.
You and I went on a similar path except I bought her a vintage platinum estate piece engagement ring then, got her wedding set and a Tudor BB41 for my wedding watch. Every scratch is a memory, wear on my friend!
Fantastic story and great long term review, I am absolutely in the vertical line camp but also the 1800 date window placement. I adore this watch it's the Omega I lust after more than any other, I think the 033 captures a little of the magic of this albeit with no comparison in terms of build and materials etc.
Scuffs and scratches are just signs you love it enough to wear it. For me, a watch that sits in a box or safe, because I want to keep it perfect is useless. That is a beautiful watch that will be a lasting symbol of your wife’s love. Cherish it forever!❤️

7 crackers with chutney and cheese plus coffee, a well timed video.
Well done on the bracelet and of course Mrs Jody.
I just commented. Love the pear shape, stunning.
That was nice, a bit of a change, interesting and obviously from the heart and no, not to long at all. I thougherly enjoyed it. 👍
Thank you mate! Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice cup of coffee and some Sainsburys chocolate chip shortcakes. Gorgeous watch. Cheers!
Excellent review/"Love Story" Jody! The bracelet looks like a factory brushing in one of the pics, so the person who refinished it did an excellent job. Anyway, keep up the great work!
I am blessed like you, Jody! After I proposed to my now fiancée, she bought me a Cartier Tank and it has been pure bliss!
Nice story Jodi. Great watch with loads of personal meaning to you.
Jody your wife has excellent taste. I’ve only got one Omega Seamaster (bought it in 1979) and to me it is just a classic watch. Hope to get another one soon.
Thanks for sharing. Nice ride over the years. I have recently become enamoured with the AT but white dial with blue hands.
my wife bought me a new "old stock" 41mm golf edition aqua terra with the 8500 movement. i'm so glad it came with a un polished bracelet. its perfect and my first luxury watch.
Great video, my wife also bought me the Omega aqua terra 8900. I have just brushed the polished mid links myself.
Only took me 20 minutes or so.
Used green scotch pads.
Looks just as good as my fully brushed Tudor bracelet.
Your idea of an engagement watch is fantastic. I will make sure to let my son know
Vostok T. Like it!

I ordered a Vostok Amphibian Scuba Dude watch. Waiting for it to arrive. Love the shirt and will pick one up from the link you provided. thanks
@@JustOneMoreWatch Thanks for the heads-up on the 'T'. Ordered one - just hope the weather in Shetland allows me to wear it.
@@scottwaldie4979 it will be fine under a coat...
Thanks Jono mate! Much appreciated.
There was a young man from Antigua
Who decided to buy an Omega
So with no more ado, to Geneva he flew
And brought back a new Aqua Terra!
Beautiful! I'm glad you like and enjoy it.
Engagement watches >>>> engagement rings! Enjoyed the video with a homemade latte and a Berger cookie!
Bravo! Really enjoyed the backstory and updates you provided. Best JOMW video to date, IMHO!
Just bought myself the blue 2023 38mm aqua terra today, absolutely beautiful watch.
Just bought a Seamaster Aqua Terra 41. Living it so far. I like the butterfly, but would also probably prefer a quick adjust option.
Awesome story. The aqua terra is my everyday grail watch but with grey dial and blue index
The watch looks so much better with the brushed center links! Its a real stunner now!
Talking about expensive stuff but the shirt tells it all. Love frogmen. On the wrist.
What a wonderful story, thanks for sharing, it shows how much the hobby gets into our lives it’s not about buying and keeping in a box in the safe. Like you my watches show the use and that shows how much I love them.
Thanks again, brilliant piece.
Yes Jody… One of my favorite things as a happy ending! All my trips to Thailand are very happy! Thanks for a wonderful piece!
My wife put a Rolex Datejust on my wrist as a engagement 🎁 gift...I was stunned! My favourite of all my watches. Cheers Mike.
Looks so much better with the unpolished links. Great idea thanks.
I am glad you are happy with Michael’s job 🙌🏻
You and I went on a similar path except I bought her a vintage platinum estate piece engagement ring then, got her wedding set and a Tudor BB41 for my wedding watch. Every scratch is a memory, wear on my friend!
Fantastic story and great long term review, I am absolutely in the vertical line camp but also the 1800 date window placement. I adore this watch it's the Omega I lust after more than any other, I think the 033 captures a little of the magic of this albeit with no comparison in terms of build and materials etc.
My wife gave me a Stowa Klassik Flieger watch, with an engraved rotor as a wedding gift. Love it!
