      Not only that. That are plenty of opportunities to make use of his extra copies of Urabrask.
      He could've attacked and cast new one to give it "vigilance". It's not like his unused mana is doing anything else.
      Or he could've killed the 4/4 and just cast a new one (this one is a bit riskier as it locks up future mana).

    I'm playing Izzet Prison in standard post rotation, Urabrask + Jin stops them from saving up cards to kill Jin, use it or lose it, but the first instant sorcery or instant you play each turn is countered.
    Normal red/blue removal for creatures, a few damage based board wipes. But get this - Wash Away, 1 blue - counter target spell that wasn't cast from anywhere but their hand (can play it for 3 mana if it was from their hand to still counter stuff) but having a 1 mana answer to anything after you lock it up - because everything is being cast from exile. Feels completely unfair and I love it.
    The extra turn card with cleave - doubling that after Jin hits play is usually game over, also you can play it for 3 mana, and at the end of your extra turn Channel a giant metal crab to counter the triggered ability unless you pay 3 (hint - you don't). Sure it's 2 cards and 6 mana for an extra turn, but it beats dying in a pinch.

    I think functional erratas are honestly fine. The rebalanced companions obviously, but there were other erratas like T5feri's +1 and Pridemate and Book of Vile Darkness. Sure practically speaking those erratas didn't change much, but they were certainly functional changes and got people to play them the "right way" without going through hoops.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, it's a tough topic. My worry is that if Wizards changed their policy and started doing power level erratas we'd see a ton of cards changing all the time (which is one of the reasons I've mostly quit playing Historic - I dislike that staples have different words every few months). If there was a way to only use it in extreme instances it might be okay, I just don't have faith that Wizards wouldn't run wild with it based on what we've seen with Alchemy rebalancings.

    • @JediMB
      @JediMB 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MTGGoldfish When it comes to errata and other oracle changes, my current pet peeve is that the original wording of Doubling Season style effects would make them completely compatible with the more recent ability to copy permanent spells.
      But since the wording was changed from "put onto the battlefield" to "create", and the spell copies are technically made on the stack, there's no interaction.

    • @TheNoblestMan
      @TheNoblestMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This... kind of misses the point?
      Targeting your own spells is *the point*. It's Transmogrify for spells not a red counter spell, Maro said as much! You don't cast Transmogrify on your opponent's stuff! Trickery was intended by WotC to be a dumb meme combo piece. That's why the random mill is there, to make it harder to combo.
      The problem is that the card which was intended to be for funny meme decks cause it isn't very good was being played in Bo1 at exceedingly high rates *despite* being terrible because it grinds dailies fast. That's an Arena economy problem, and since they're not fixing the economy they should just have banned it in Bo1 only to patch it.

    • @joegaylord87
      @joegaylord87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheNoblestMan I get that was their reasoning. My point is more that their reasoning is stupid. It also broke modern when combined with cascade and, as I recall, did some damage to legacy as well.
      I understand the idea of their design, but it's a shitty design, even as a combo piece. However, as a true red counterspell, it's a very interesting potential tool. It might not be a great tool, but there's certainly potential.

      If you do it during the end step, the *next* end step is on the next turn, so they can live until them.

    Great video! I love this. I've used Drannith + Possibility storm to hard lock people, but Urabrask is almost more fun b/c of the unknown remaining cards in hand. Also, this being in Standard(?) is pretty cool.

    Oddly fitting that right after Yatagarasu came of the yugioh banlist you post a deck built around yata locking the opponent

  • @Cornelius135
    @Cornelius135 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The pioneer version just runs possibility storm instead of urabrask, right? Like that’s a legit lock - no more spells, can’t break it up. I mean, why not both for redundancy, but then you’re also running 6-8 five mana spells

  • @MusicoftheDamned
    @MusicoftheDamned 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That Tibalt's Trickery will forever be missing the obvious "your opponent controls" wording that it always should have had will remain a shame until they print an equivalent to that. It would be funny if even then it still ended up being broken though given it's 1Red--might need to be RedRed to be truly "fair".

    • @JoeNokers
      @JoeNokers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      card isn't good as a counter most of the time, doubt it would see much play outside of sideboards

    • @MusicoftheDamned
      @MusicoftheDamned 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoeNokers Yeah, by itself, I wouldn't worry about a fixed version much. It's just that at this point don't trust WotC to either ban things that might make it degenerate again, like WAR Teferi, or not print something else that would.

    Urabrask is probably my favorite new!praetor. I will say though that Boros D&T is a little weird to me, especially since Red doesn't really add much to the "Taxes" side of the deck (because most of their "tax" effects want you to be playing Burn or Aggro, because they take the form of "don't do X or I'll hurt you")
    EDIT: The synergy between Reflection of the Mirror-Breaker and Skyclave Apparition is super sweet.

      There are also a handful of cards that have been errata'd in paper, mostly cards that were worded incorrectly / didn't work the way the designers intended (e.g., hostage taker was errata'd to say "another target..." since her effect was originally broken since it could infinitely loop itself and lead to a match draw)
