Thanks for a very clear walkthrough of the replacement process. You answered all the questions anyone would ask. Always wondered how dozens or hundreds of floppies were retrieved f the flash drive and you did a great demo of that! I have aTrinity HD. Does anyone think I should install one of these or just transfer all my floppies to the hard drive?

Is there a possibility that the system files (pcg, combi, sequencer / song / and pcg with samples) that I made on my Korg Triton Classic, will be originally loaded into Korg Triton Extreme ???

Thanks for the vid. Question: What is the exact part/make of the USB floppy that you upgraded with? Is it a specific part for Korg Tritons or you could simply order any convertor like this, and it will work for a classic Korg Triton Studio? I need to do a data dump of both Audio Song files, and Midi files from my Korg Triton Studio to an external USB Drive. Please advise.

Hi there, I have a question and I'm wondering if you'd be willing to help me out. I had an original Korg Triton years back (like this) and composed many small pieces of music before I sold it. I recently found by backup of all my SNG files, but without the device, it seems there's no real way to convert these to standard midi files without the hardware on hand. More difficult still, is the limitation of the 3.5” floppy. I'd LOVE to be able to bring these compositions into my DAW after some 20+ years and hear them again.
Any chance you'd be willing to help since you have a usb drive on your triton? I can provide a link to a dropbox folder with the files (there's about 50 of them)

I do this with my Extreme and it's awesome but I'm hoping to downsize to a Triton Rack for portability.

I’m a musician - piano player and a proud owner of a vintage musical Keyboard Korg IS40
Gotek really help me bring it to modern times by replacing to old and unreliable floppy disk to USB…
As a professional musician special in important moments as New Year eve and other great party that I’ve play-it normally make my own arrangement in all music, I keep them in the USB flash in several floppies, the problem is that during any music performance, the music have to change according the reaction of the people, and sometime well a lot of times those music are in different floppy and to move down the selection is at the moment with this hardware it’s impossible…
I can only move up the selection but to move down our even go back to the 000 floppy I need to turn off the keyboard… and that takes forever…
I wonder if there’s anything that we can do change only that feature… in programming our making some kind of connection to allow some kind of mod to move it up and down the selection of the floppy in a quick and efficient way…
If that alteration were possible that would change the game forever…
any musician that use any vintage musical Keyboard in a daily base is desperately searching for this feature… Time between music’s in any stage is the most hated thing when people are having fun…
Best regards from Funchal - Madeira - Portugal…

1 formatting from Korg will be for 1 floppy. Do we have to repeat one by one to simulate 999 floppies? It seems that until now there is no other alternative for floppy to usb emulator isn't it? Anyone knows? Still no device with fixed OS in ROM to "merge many floppies" into a bigger partition (max DOS size). Does this ubs needs to be in FAT12 or FAT32 format? Thanks for any input.

If using stock Gotek firmware (as in this video) simply have USB stick inserted and hold both Gotek buttons upon power up to automatically format all 1,000 virtual floppies (will erase USB stick). There are also a few Windows apps for managing floppy images. In addition you can flash the Gotek drive with free FlashFloppy firmware, or else €10 HxC firmway, for many additional features and great support, although the Triton strangely has some odd incompatibilies for such a late and MS-DOS compatible floppy system.

@@ShallRemainUnknown Thanks Mr. Unknown! I tried the method you said, it seems have formatted to 1000 floppies, although Windows Disk Manager sees 1 unformatted drive (the hidden area) aside with 1 formatted drive (the floppy 1.44MB). The problem is that Gotek USB_Floppy_Manager_v140i.exe does not see any floppy! It looks unformatted. Would you mind indicating which Windows app do you use to see these 1000 floppies? Many thanks.

If not using free FlashFloppy firmware upgrade for your Gotek drive (which I believe still has some compatibility issues with Korg Triton and/or Trinity keyboards), or the paid HcX firmware (possibly better compatibility with Triton/Trinity), then I'm aware of 3 software programs for original factory firmware Gotek drives: 1) Ketron Italy USB-Floppy Software, 2) IPCAS GmbH USB Floppy Emulator V2, and 3) GOTEKsystem software (what you seem to be using). I'm not sure whether any of the three programs are merely reskinned/rebranded versions of the others. All three programs are available to download online currently.

Gotta be 2G or lower as the computers in these old keyboards run in older drives that can’t read above 2G flash drives. BUT VERY IMPORTANT... buy the smallest it can! Because you have to format it to use it and once you do that the keyboard will turn it into only 1.44 MB just like the floppy disk were. So everything above 1.44 MB will be erased anyway. I found 256MB flash drives online.

It's just a standard 34 pin IDE connector with the standard floppy power cable, so any emulator that works reliably in a PC should in principle work in the Triton.
I can't make any promises of course, but I can say that Korg supported standard IDE connectivity even before they used standard cables. My N364 happily accepted a regular PC floppy drive with a simple passive adapter.

I'm told it has to be "flashed" with the right software or it wont work.

Why don't you just replace it for a LS-120

You completely glossed over how much work is required to make the cover fit, and you didn't actually show us that.

Yeah, I was hoping to see that part as I'm having problems as we speak inserting the device back where it goes...

Once you format your flash drive to use it on the keyboard it will downgrade it to only 1.5 MB just like the floppy disk were. Just an important thing to know so you don’t get surprised like I did because nobody is mentioning this. You won’t be able to save more data on your new usb flash drive stick than you were able to save on your old floppy’s. Still a great upgraded but make sure you get a bulk pack of flash drives 😆😁. I’ll be ordering a pack tonight.

You can actually get that space back by reformatting and repartitioning your usb. You do it on a pc with the diskpart utility from the cmd prompt.

It would have been nice to ACTUALLY HAVE SEEN The removal and installing of the 4 SCREWS that held the drive in!

    One important question.
Is there a possibility that the system files (pcg, combi, sequencer / song / and pcg with samples) that I made on my Korg Triton Classic, will be originally loaded into Korg Triton Extreme ???
