I was there!!! I cannot believe the day was filmed and has never been shown!!!???? Omg this brings back so many memories!! Incredible day!! Manchester at its best!!
@@nota8386 I’ll never forget!! The journey home on the train two guys had recorded the new order set on an old Sony pro Walkman. We were listening back too it. Crazy times!! Never been a gig like it since!!
There was Steadicam operators filming just about every set throughout the day. That was one of the first times I'd seen those counterweighted cameras in the flesh. Always assumed it was Granada and we'd get at least a best of highlights show on TV. I want to see Mac McCullough and Barney's Ceremony duet plus The Fall and The Smiths sets were both amazing as well.
Me and my brother went for the whole day...£12 to see some of the best acts ever. The Smiths, New Order, ACR, OMD ( and fire bucket), Ian McCullogh singing Ceremony, JCClark, Tony Wilson, The Fall. Will always be the best music event I've ever attended. Can't believe it's never been released on DVD. Still have the Festival of the 10th Summer ticket stub....Class!
Me too. I crushed hard on a girl when I had the Substance cassette on repeat. Never got to get to know her, but she seemed perfect. "Oh, she has blue eyes"
Very rare that a NO live performance is as good or in this case, better than the studio release! I am in tears. My fave NO song, and possibly fave live song ever!
I discovered new order in the early 90s as I was a bit younger. I liked True Faith and Bizarre Love Triangle so went to the store, bought the Substance album, and discovered this song. This was the one that made me realize how amazing this band was. Still my favorite NO song and one of the best ever written.
Wow - thanks for posting I’m really looking forward to the Brotherhood re-release. This is NewOrder at the peak of their powers - when Barney (as he was back then 🧐) used to give it some Fuckin’ WELLY! The mighty Temptation - probably the best tune ever IMHO. 😎💪🏻
One of their finest. Incredible, life impacting track. Pipped only by Ceremony. IMO. (and back in the day Bernard could hold the high notes. Now? Not so much. But he is still a legend).
Okay, sorry for asking, but was Barney on a lot of coke or something for this performance? Or was this just how it was during these few months? I feel like I’ve seen him deliver smoother vocal performances of the same song before and after this. Not to take away from it, I do enjoy the return of the fall-off-the-cliff effect that both JD and early NO had, I was just wondering from those that had been there…
They did yeah. They went on earlier. If I remember correctly The Smiths headlined the 'From Manchester with Love' concert in Liverpool so New Order headlined GMex

I read somewhere that The Smiths performance was the highlight of the festival.
One of the greatest songs ever written.

There are no words to describe how amazing this song is
A special day for me at 15. New Order got me through my dark adolescence. I'll always be grateful to them for that.
❤
Me too. I crushed hard on a girl when I had the Substance cassette on repeat. Never got to get to know her, but she seemed perfect. "Oh, she has blue eyes"
I’m literally 16 and am also going through it rn this video was a blessing
Same for me. I've been to alot of gigs, this one is still the best. Incredible. I'll be buying the footage ASAP
Can't believe I saw The Smiths and New Order on the same bill. Both were out of this world.
And Morrissey thinks Ian Curtis and joy division was insincere and fake. I can't belive New order would bill with the smith's.
And Morrissey thought thought Joy division and Ian was a joke. Go figure

I saw them in Glasgow at The Barrowlands that same year. Absolutely stunning.
The greatest song ever written, soaring majestically above everything else - unbreakable, timeless, and uplifting.
Ridiculous....not patch on any joy division song...get real
The eighties were an awesome time and the New Order's sound of that time fit in really well 🖤🍷
My favorite New Order song .................... an inmense hug of light from Perú 💋💋💋💋💋♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹☀️⚡📣🌈😎👍...
One of THE best 80's New Wave songs of all time.
Arguably their finest moment...
'86-'87 were the years I first heard NO & spent hours searching little indy record shops for their music - it was so mind-blowing good.
And still is.
Festival of the 10th Summer! Amazing day, I still have my ticket
Same.
An unforgettable time... give it to us again❤!

Now that's a party!!! Everybody is jumping to the music. The energy is incredible.
Masterpiece drumming by Mr. Morris…!!!!

NEW ORDER FOREVER!
La neta pienso lo mismo… es la banda de mi vida !
I was there. Great day.
i was there , dont remember a thing about the day 😳
Excellent band, song, and live performance 👏, many great memories from seeing 👀 New Order live over the last 40 years. 😊
Looking forward to seeing Ceremony with Ian McCulloch on vocal...
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before🎶🎶🎶 absolutely mustard! Salford's finest.
Sensacional!!!!......the best band in the world
Certainly, the best song New Order ever produced.
What a great day that was 🎶🎵
めちゃ好きです。懐かしい😍
brings tears of joy to my eyes! ❤
i love you guys
The full gig will be on the Brotherhood super deluxe set dvd. Bit pricey though.
Love it!!❤❤
Thanks for uploading!!👍🙏😌🎧💎🎙💎🎸💎💞❤️💖🌬🌊🎶🇬🇷
bass drum kicks proper man
Me saw these in '89 Reading festival!!😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Love this classic
These guys are awesome!
Majestic… nice to see footage now from this era other than the Brixton Academy VHS.
Go on Stephen!
Wow. Thanks folks! 😮😊😮
Love this song 😎
excellent and sofisticated !!
Wow - thanks for posting

I love 💕
Always cool play at home (guitarist from Salford).
Huauuu show!😊
This is the good shit. Hooky and Stephen nailing it and an enthusiastic skinny Barney.
I often watch the original version (video) 💆🏼♂️!
Que maravilhoso
This is New Order coked up goodness! Don't do drugs!
great !!! ❤
I wish I could find a Stratocaster like Benards with those kind of pickups. And Hooky is still in pretty good physical shape today close to 70.
Grumpy bastards which made them the coolest band in the world

This song doesn't need the vocal exclamation points Sumner throws out there during this live performance.

andy robinsons reaction to all the woops 😅
Great day. New order. The fall. The smiths. And many other great bands. O and bill grundy.
yup.
Amo muito 🇧🇷🖤
The story.
All the keys eh Bernard? 😬🤣
Was this the one with ACR and Happy Mondays as the support bands?
The Smiths, The Fall, OMD, ACR, John Cale...
I don't remember Happy Mondays
ACR & Mondays was Dec 1988 at GMex. This was Summer of Love thingy - Factory meets Liverpool?
Bunnymen too I think.
Mac did Ceremony with NewOrder
@@julianmbarker 'The 10th Summer' festival. A week long series of art and music events around Manchester, culminating in a GMEX alldayer.
@@julianmbarker i have a promo poster for that show. it's one of those jumbo size wall posters.
Sounds like Gillian's fighting some budgies while playing the synths
Love the performance. The lighting was so boring back in those days days
Did The Smiths play on that evening too, nah?
They did yeah. They went on earlier. If I remember correctly The Smiths headlined the 'From Manchester with Love' concert in Liverpool so New Order headlined GMex

Muito tri 🇧🇷🇪🇪🇵🇸✌🍻🍻🍻
so angry😂
Hooky walking away. sad.

No Hooky No New Order.
