I lived in camp 6 and worked in curry village the summer of 1998. It was amazing. Camp 6 does not exist anymore and curry village is yosemite village. I hiked and rock climbed alot. I have been everywhere in the valley but somehow i never saw that hike. I'm disabled now. It looks like a place i would have wanted to go. I wish i could. Thankyou for the beautiful camera work. It took me there brother. I recommend hiking to Vogelsang from Toulumne Meadows, spend the night and then climb to the top of Fletcher peak. Its epic. Cheers!
Worked in Curry Village Summer -Winter '77! That was after being a Camp 4 Dirtbag for 3 months! Ran out a $ and got tired of dumpster diving for bottles & cans!! Also perm. disabled now, so I also like reliving my adventures by watching these wonderful shows!! I cleaned the bath houses & my girlfriend worked in the sporting goods shop @ Curry. Got great discounts on X-Country skis for winter trips into the high country!!
Just found your videos and watching through them. My Dad worked in the park in 76/77 and us kids did a lot of exploring around the valley. This is one I didn't know about. You scored with the seeing the bear!
Can’t wait to do this hike next year! Went a few weeks ago and Yosemite falls had stopped falling. Will be awesome getting so up close and personal with it full flowing like this.
I'm very familiar with the rockfall trail because it's the walk-off trail for a few short climbs that I have done on Sunnyside Bench. No climbs were more than three pitches. I did not know about fern ledge when I was there.
I did this today, minus the final ledge (but there was no real point since the falls are unsurprisingly completely dry! )Thanks for describing it so well and sharing your knowledge.....this was a super fun adventure! Oh- and there are warning signs posted now at the top of the rock fall just before turning west.
@@yosemite-tv I'll be back for sure 😀 I also found the Ledge Trail - and did ascend a while- but had no intention of going all the way up, so had to come down before it was too late. Lol.
This is such a cool channel. I love the trails that not as many people know about, which are the type you do. Those are the kinds of trails I like here in the Appalachian Mountains, as well. I went to Yosemite in 2017 - such an amazing place! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you for the extremely informative video, I’ve been wanting to do this hike for a decade. No way I’m going out on that final ledge though! Great video! Suggestions for future vids of “secret”Yosemite : Indian Canyon, El Capitan Gully, The notch between Cathedral Rocks and Gunsight that takes you to top of Bridalveil Falls and base of Silver Strand Falls in springtime. Well done!
I see you have lots of commenters who have known Yosemite intimately for many years. That's great. I have seen people on that ledge from the Falls trail, and I never knew how they got there. I have tried to figure out how to get to the middle falls area for years too. This was very useful!
I've hiked this 3 times, but only the section I knew as Sunnyside Bench, which was the entire horizontal traverse from top of landslide/boulder approach to top of lower Yosemite Falls. My best hike was late summer w/ almost NO water in falls but allowed access to large pools and lip of lower falls - could actually swim in pools. About 1980s! I did not attrmpt Fern Ledge access.
Going to this, this video helps! I was concerned about the "route finding" but thankfully your directive is thorough. Going for this trek on Saturday this weekend! Thank you.
Cool video. However, part of what makes these "going rogue" routes so cool, is that you are very unlikely to encounter crowds of people and scenes of human related impact. I fear that with these videos, these routes are now being exposed to the masses, and sensitive areas of this already greatly impacted valley will become trampled. In your disclaimer section, perhaps you could ask folks to please tread lightly and please try to keep these quiet corners of the valley as free from impact as possible. Try to walk and hike on rock wherever possible and avoid crushing the vegetation. Leave no Trace . . . blah, blah, blah. You know the drill. Thanks !!
My favorite areas of yosemite are around cathedrial lakes an sunrize lake .Worked in Yosemite from 1987-2000 an my last job in the park was managing Crane Flat grocery/ gas station. but i was still hourly not salary. (i never would have had the time if i went salary) For any whom wish to work in the park an still be an explorer.
I like how at 10:29 you mention deviating off the trail... instead of explaining why you should deviate off trail I wish you just said "BECAUSE THERE'S A HUGE GODDAMN WATERFALL IN FRONT OF YOU."
There are only ferns in the first third of this hike unfortunately. There were lots of ferns here in the past but due to almost constant doubt they have all since vanished. M
@@yosemite-tv It’s not that I don’t like it, in fact, it’s one of my favorite day hikes in the whole world. I assume you understand the concept of secret spot versus popular hiking destination. I’ve been going to Yosemite every summer since about 1980. It wasn’t till about 1992 that I found out about Fern ledge, and that was because I had a friend who worked there, and knew a lot of locals. Think about it for a minute, there’s a reason this wasn’t in a guidebook back in the 80s, or some blog page in the 90s. And it seems to have taken quite a while for someone to post a TH-cam video about it.
This is not the first video of the for fern Ledge on TH-cam. This is not new information. This is not in loser guide books from the 90’s because those boomers who wrote those books didn’t know about it. Wake up and then grow up
@@yosemite-tv That’s just the kind of response I expected from some little Nepo baby POS with no sense of historical perspective. Yosemite is for your generation now, dude. Good idea
This is pretty cool i didn't even know there was a trail that really went anywhere up there
I wouldn’t call it a trail. But it’s awesome
@@yosemite-tv well I can't argue with you there but don't know much about the N side of the valley except for Tenaya Canyon and the falls trail

Sick ass video. Plan on doin this in August. Would u say this is tougher than the ledge trail off glacier???
Very well done!
Thank you very much!
You could spend a lifetime in this place and not see everything. Really looking forward to hiking this.
Lots more to come
God's Country. God Bless!
I have done the hike twice. For me, the part that sucks is almost at the end when you go up hill walking on the sand
Yeah
I agree. I hate that section
@@yosemite-tv same lol
Nice 👍 but my luck I’ll get lost, and David Paulides will end up doing a story on me for his Missing 411 books…..😬
great videos, just now finding you
More on the way
What time of year did you shoot this video?
This was last week
Early May
How many miles is it?
I’d say between 5 and 7 miles total
It was impossible to calculate having to walk back and get may camera added a lot of extra walking on this day
Great video/setting. Music unnecessarily dark, ominous, distracting.

'doubt' read: "Drought"
Cairns (kArn) not "karen" .
Why do these have an ominous vibe?
