    Thank you so much for posting this video.
    In the late 80's, I was inspired (understatement!) by my extensive readings of Ansel Adams life, to travel (from the UK) to Yosemite in 1991, to attempt this route to the diving board, but during the climb, I was soon struck with the realisation that I would probably not be able to get back down the same route, and (stupidly) having not told anyone of my intentions, I backed out of the attempt.
    I was 31 years old then, but I am due to visit Yosemite again in May of next year (34 years on), but any sort of climb would be completely out of the question for me now....sadly.
    I am very envious of your achievment and also very grateful to you for documenting your climb for us all.

    Great tour of an area I have not been to. Lived in camp 4 in 1972 for a year and did a lot of the big walls. Climbed with legends in the climbing world. Best year of my life living with almost no money. Scarfed the cafeteria for food.

    I've wondered about the viability of this route many times - thanks for the video! Other than the last pitch up to Grizzly Peak, the parts of this route that you showed actually looked less sketchy than the other route via snake dike. I haven't hiked either, and likely never will (my ankles just won't tolerate that much camber anymore), but it's still thrilling to get a glimpse of what it's like.

    I was also inspired by the Adam's description. My wife and I tried 25 years ago and got denied at a large polished wall section in the gully. We attempted to find a route through the trees and slabs but it got way too sketchy. We retreated mainly because the polished wall would have been too hard to down climb if we had to abandon the route higher up. Highly recommend an early start for this challenging route. Bring a friend too.

    Yosemite means "they come to kill" I think we need to have more respect for our Native Americans from California and the Northern Americas. As a native my self it's hard to see all the trash left in mountains and a long the shorelines of higher level lakes. 3:35

    • @thechad4485
      @thechad4485 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kinda. I mean, technically Yosemite doesn’t mean anything, and is just a word made up by Lafayette Bunnell. But the two words he used (yohhemeti - “they are killers,” isimiti - “great bear” (uzumahti variant)) mashed together would technically mean “they are killers” using the primary word yohhemite for the translation, though Lafayette believed his word to be a better version of uzumahti than any native variant, intending for it to mean “great bear/grizzly.”
