Your hair looks fantastic Melissa. But it's so funny you should say this because I think the same applies to skin. This used to be my routine. Sunblock daytime. Retin A at night. Suddenly (because everyone else did) I got into serums, Vit C, Niacin, peptides, hyaluronic acid, multi this, multi that, bakuchiol moisturisers, and my skin has never looked worse! So I'm going back to the 'less is more' regime. Bless my heart, I'll be washing with plain soap and water next! Joking apart I was talking to this 90 year old the other day who had skin like a peach. Pears soap she said. That's it!
I have been thinking the same thing. I kinda have this feeling that product development people sit around at a conference table and try to decide which layer they can add to women’s routines next. The more layers I put on my skin, the more it sags. I sometimes wonder if they’re just playing with us. I guess they’re laughing all the way to the bank. Many thanks❤❤❤
Hi Melissa just to let you know i fell in love with your gorgeous top so i ordered the 4 colours in it.. So thank you for pointing me in the right direction for purchasing it. Blessing love from Christine from Scotland xx
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with this. I've been trying for 2 years to regrow my hair and make it healthy ...no coloring, bleaching, extensions or hot tools ...only "moisturizing treatments", masks, leave ins, etc. and my bottom half looks like i have bleached it weekly ...any growth id start to see wouldnt matter because i would trim constantly (with multiple hair scissors because i thought maybe i was using bad ones to cause the damage) just to keep repeating this cycle non stop. Im almost in tears with how awful it has become but this is the first day i came across protein overload and I'll tell you what... 80% of my expensive hair care products all have a form of protein. About to go use a clarifying packet i think i have stuffed somewhere and a simple conditioner then a dab of Moroccan Oil (argan oil) to the ends. Praying this works. Your video has confirmed what I anticipated the issue would turn out to be, i appreciate you sharing ! Take care ❤
This was a very informative video, after reading the comments I wish some of you ladies would’ve named the shampoo and conditioners without protein you all were using, sometimes I’m so indecisive… Melissa your hair looks gorgeous and that top is super cute on you, thanks for sharing.
It’s a challenge. It really is. It’s like you have to become a scientist now to figure out just basic things and what is in what we’re putting on ourselves. And they just keep adding more and more products they want us to use. I stripped things down on my skin care, and now I’m about to do the same thing with my hair. I am having good luck with the Nioxin system right now. if I venture out into other shampoos and conditioners, I will name them. Take care and thank you. ♥️♥️♥️
@@Melissa55 oh I saw nioxin my daughters hairdresser recommended it for some hair loss my kid is having. It has 3 levels I think from mild hair loss to shampoo for more hair loss. Which one are you using? And this has no protein at all in it? You use 3 piece set with conditioner and leave in I think it comes like that I’m Not sure. But since your trying it and I got recommendation from stylist I will try for myself and daughter. Hope it’s sulfate free too
I had this problem from using to much of the Olaplex line. So I stopped for awhile and now I clarify once a month. Made a huge difference! Thank you for sharing and the tips. Love your tops! xoxo
I agree. My hair does not like Olaplex and the number 3 treatment works like a protein treatment....even though that's not technically what it is. So if you have protein overload the worst thing you can try is that treatment.
I had that problem when I got highlights and the salon suggested a specific shampoo to keep them looking pretty. I started having the same problems as you. My hair broke off and looked awful. Someone on Reddit thought it might be protein overload. I used protein-free shampoo. The problem disappeared. Thanks so much for spreading the word. You're very kind to use your influencer status to help others. ❤️
@@saniaz680 Look at Melissa's time stamp at 6:00 minutes. She puts the list on there. Other key words to watch out for are keratin, biotin, hydrolyzed quinoa, amino acids, "bond-building", or silk protein are some examples.
I sure do appreciate it. It took me a while to put things together. I just didn’t think to look at the ingredients, I just looked at the word moisturizing. I think it’s probably a bit of a balancing act, and some people maybe can get away with using a lot of protein and others can’t. I sure do thank you ❤❤❤
I’ve been watching the Blowout Professor on TH-cam. He owns a salon in Florida and does amazing videos on these types of issues. My hair has never looked and felt better since following his advice
Hi Melissa, you look absolutely. beautiful today. Your hair looks thick and bouncy and I love your new top. I have noticed that I am losing a lot of hair at the moment. I asked my hairdresser about it and he said it is normal at this time of year. I look more like a plucked parrot everyday but I just hope it comes back in the spring! Tfs xx
aw, you are so sweet, Rose!~!! Thank you so much. That is interesting about it being this time of year. I didn't know that. So far my root loss is under control more, it's just been that breakage!! So frustrating. I sure do thank you!
Im going through abit of a protein over load crisis now... I have been trying to help my hair from protein masques.. and it back fired on me. luckily I knew about protein overload and have gone straight to fixing the problem with protein free moisturising masques.. hopefully it can be fixed 😭😭 also your hair is beautiful and so are you!! 💕
Your hair looks GORGEOUS! Would love to see a video of how you did it? I have the same kind of hair as yours and struggle with the curly bits 🤣. I have also moved to shampooing twice a week and limiting heat…which is hard for us curly girls I think. Love the videos, thanks so much for posting 😘
Well, I appreciate that so much. It is hard for us that probably need heat to control our hair. I do wear mine up in a clip a whole lot. Lol. Many thanks.
Melissa your hair is not naturally curly though. It has a slight wave. But to suggest that it’s Kerri Russell curly is misleading. You have said you twist it at night thus it would give it a forced curl upon waking up. But a slight wave vs curl is very different.
@@ladoñasarita Misleading how? She literally has videos posted showing you how she styles her hair. I have the same type of hair and have been described as “curly” my entire life, although technically the curl pattern is considered wavy. Details, details 🤣
@@marciaeasterling5089 Umm she literally ALSO has old photos AND pictures herself as a child on her IG and her hair is straight as a board. So yes fn’ MISLEADING!
@@sarahwalker3329 I have tried to post two different links to my IG where it clearly shows my hair which IS naturally curly with ringlets and all. But for some reason the comments won’t show. A wave and curly ringlets are two different things!
Love love LOVE that top! Glad you found a new distributor for it. Your hair always looks awesome, but glad to know about the protein overload test. I'm trying that tonight after my shower!
I apologize if I missing. I did not see a link for products. Im not sure if Nixon has different types shampoo and conditioner . Can you please share link or what specific one u use. I’m having this problem as well.
I have had the same issue. I can't use any products with protein. Keratin is a big no-no for me. It's even in haircolor. Some of the curly websites insist that silicone shouldn't be used. But conditioner with just a bit works perfectly for my hair. Gives it just the right amount of slip. I have fine hair. Your hair is georgeous!
I got a Keratin treatment once. It did ok, but I wouldn't want to anymore. I remember she told me she had had some people say it broke off their hair. Yes, I think I can use just a tiny bit maybe, but then just not layer so much. Take care and thanks!
@@MISSYMINX261 My favorite was one from Pantene that has been reformulated and it no longer works for my hair. I'm currently looking for a replacement.
Melissa. Your hair looks really good. My stylist has broached the protein overload subject with me so I’d be careful using these products. I want to say your lipstick looks great, made me look at the product you used; quite a nice color on you!
I think the Amika line is protein-free. Can you recommend any leave-in conditioners or shampoo/conditioners, in addition to Nioxin, that is protein-free?
Thanks Melissa! I have so many hair struggles these days. I am going to keep this in mind and check the ingredients on my products too. Love that top and that colour is gorgeous on you!
Great subject Melissa. I don’t use anything on my hair but my shampoo, conditioner and a hair mask 2 times a month. I don’t use any leave in except for Lanza Treatment every other shampoo. I don’t use any styling products. I do use Oribe Texturizing Spray. My ends are not perfect as I don’t think anyone’s ends are who have long hair. But we can all improve the ends. Love ya. Xoxo 😘
Hi Melissa, I didn’t know you could overload on protein with your hair. It was interesting finding out about that. Your hair looks lovely today. Kindness, Teresa
Well, thank you so much. I think it’s a fine line. Because you do need protein in your hair. I just gather, that certain types don’t need quite as much and it can do the opposite. I really appreciate it.
Hi Melissa. You know, this is some really good information. After washing my hair, I tried to stretch my hair, and it didn't break!! Of all of the TH-camrs I've watched throughout the years, I've learned the most from you, and Elle. Love you, my beautiful friend..MaryEllen
Your hair always looks so healthy. I remember3 in the past, mind wouldn't break either, but it sure snaps now!!! awwwwww, than you and love you! Happy Birthday! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
You look great and your hair is beautiful! My hair was very fuzzy & frizzy on the ends and looked like cotton candy. I used K18 repair mask and it made a world of difference. It’s kind of expensive so I bought the trial size. It just takes a tiny, tiny little amount and you don’t put it on your roots. I think you’re supposed to use clarifying shampoo, but I used Briogeo balancing shampoo. DO NOT use conditioner or any other product before the K18. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to comb my hair without conditioner, but after I left the K18 on for 4 minutes I combed my hair with no tangles whatsoever. I air dry my hair and I now have waves I haven’t seen in years. I bought the large size of the mask and it’s awesome! You use it after several washes in a row, then just periodically. I was very excited when K18 finally came out with their brand of shampoo. Unfortunately, it dried my hair out really bad. Their shampoo does not work for me at all, but I love the repair mask.
Oh thank you!!! I will look at the ingredients of the mask and see if it has protein in it. I'm trying to avoid it right now until I get a reset on my hair, but it sure sounds like a good one. I thank you and I hope you have a wonderful upcoming weekend! Love, Melissa
Right now, I'm using the Nioxin System 4. It does have some biotin in it, which I did read in some ingredient lists as considered protein, but it doesn't seem to affect my hair negatively, so I think I'm ok with it. I saw my hairspray has protein, so I'm laying off it for now. It's a process!!! Many thanks.
Your videos are always such a delight!!! I look forward to every one of them. I have wavy hair when I was growing it out, I was using Velcro rollers. I noticed that they were getting full of hair. My hair was breaking like crazy on them! You might want to switch to a smooth roller that doesn’t encourage any breakage at all! Lol. I ditched them and just use dryer on low heat with cool blast and done.. Sometimes less IS more! 😂😂😂 Also , you mention your grandkids. Could you do a video on what kind of things you do with them? 🎉I have some, and struggle to find things and ideas that they might enjoy. Also common gift ideas that you do for them. Thanks so much for any help.!! You are aging backwards.. just STUNNING. Thanks for doing what you do. OH! And it’s time for TV UPDATE!!😂😂😂
Thank you so much, Barb!!! Yes, I am beginning to realize less is more, too. And I'm using my Velcros less and less. They are the ones for fragile hair, but I can't find them anymore! They are so much gentler than the regular ones, so it's frustrating to not find them now. I might experiment with something like gauze to see if that softens the pull more. lol. I'm always experimenting! lol. Oh thank you for the ideas about what to do with the grandkids, Something that was popular was a scavenger hunt around town. But it was places instead of things. Like, "where is the statute of so and so", so they had to find it on their phones and map it out and give the driver dir3ections. Doug and I each took a team. they had to work together to give each of us direction on where to drive and we weren't allowed to help at all. It taught them to read maps and learn about their town. I sure appreciate you! Love, Melissa
Hi Melissa, this was a great topic to cover. You described my hair to a "t". I am looking forward to trying your suggestions. I would love to see a hair tutorial on this look. Lovely.
Thank you Amanda. It is so frustrating to see your hair Just snap like a twig or something. And when I tried that test of pulling a strand that was wet, and it snapped quickly, I figured it was very brittle. I appreciate this so much.
Hi Melissa, Your hair looks great! What hair color dye and brand do you use? And do you use a 10, 20, 30 developer? It’s looks like a dark beige blonde. Am I close? Im having such a time finding the right color for my 50% grays. Really like your shade. Please share it. Thanks😊
So glad you were able to figure out what the problem was! Thank you so much for sharing that with us...I had no idea too much protein would cause that! Have a great week!!!
Thank you, Tanya. I gather it doesn’t bother a lot of types of hair, but there are certain types that just can’t handle too much of it I think. And I think mine is one of them. Take care and thank you.
That’s so interesting. I hadn’t cut my hair for awhile. Linda took off about three inches. My ends were frizzy & dry. There’s still a couple of inches that feel like that. My hair has never felt that bad. I’ll have to check my shampoo and conditioner. I don’t want to cut any shorter since my hair will be up to my ears. Your hair looks gorgeous. Love you, Lucy
Lucy, I was in the same predicament. It’s like the splitting started all over again. I wonder if sometimes we just need to get back to basic things and keep things as simple as possible. I think I was just layering and layering and got my hair in trouble. Love you lots and I appreciate it.
Your hair looks beautiful, Melissa! I am going back to my Nioxin. I haven’t used it for a while and I have been experiencing the same things as you described. We had moved and I thought it was the water in my new location and the humidity, but we have been dry lately and it still continued. A clarifier temporarily helped me. Such a helpful video. Thank you!
aw, thanks, Patti. Your hair is just so healthy and gorgeous. It really looks like you have a great combination of products. I think it doesn't affect everyone, so you are probably good to go as is! Love to you!! And thank you!
Melissa- my hairdresser has cautioned me in this. I usually only use moisturizing conditioner and only use masks with protein maybe twice per month. It made a HUGE difference.
Oh thank you for this video so much, Melissa. I’ve never heard Of this. I will sure look at my products. Your top is everything Love it. Please don’t feel like u have To answer I totally understand I too have grandchild. You just enjoy your family. Hugs. Jana - Texas
🤩Wow! This is a pretty hairstyle. Can we have this hair tutorial please? Thanks for the info; I love learning about hair. I have long hair & it’s hard to keep it healthy. I leave coconut oil in my hair a few hours once a week & it’s very helpful.
Hi Melissa! This was such an interesting video! I have noticed over the last few months that my hair has not been in very good condition! I don't colour it anymore so I would have thought it should have been more healthy but nope!! It just keeps breaking and has really thinned out!!😫 I will definitely look into my shampoos and what's in them! Thank you dear friend for sharing this with us!! I hope everyone is well! And you top is gorgeous!!😍 Much love Deb x ❤️❤️❤️🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🎃🎃🎃
You’re so sweet Deb. And thank you. I wonder if your hair needs different things now that it’s in its natural state. It is so frustrating trying to get the right combination. I swear they throw more and more products at us and I’m not sure it’s always the best thing. Lol. I appreciate you and have a blessed week.
Hi Melissa I'm late watching your video cause we ended up staying in Tenn longer than we planned on our anniversary trip. Your hair looks absolutely amazing lady!!! It's just gorgeous but your makeup is beautiful as always and I love the top lol I have 1 in the same color! Lol went in several outlets while in Tenn Banana Republic was one of them. Thanks for the tip. You never think or I haven't about too much protein in my hair!! Thx for all the work you put into your videos. Have a great week (its turned really cold here to of course Duh...) and be happy and healthy! Love from SC 🍁🧡🍁
Oh I hope you had a good time. I have got to get up to the mountains before the leaves all drop. Oh girl thank you for the kind words. I love that deep teal color. It's such a nice color on almost everyone. You are so sweet! I sure thank you and hope you are well. Love and thanks! 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Hi! I love watching your videos so much! I just wanted to let you know if your roots benefit from having that protein then only use one product in the roots (like if it was a spray or a mousse). But only add in that one product again and don't put it on your ends because your ends are more porous because they are older.
That's such a good idea, Natalie! After I get my hair back in shape again, I'm going to try that. It's It can add body to my roots for sure!!! Many thanks!
Hi my gorgeous friend. I love your hair videos. Such a cute outfit with the navy and gold buttons. Wow so interesting I had never heard about too much protein. You know I dont use much product on mine. I need to double check though what is in the products. Thank you so much Melissa for this. Hugs and love ya. ❤
Hi Melissa. I suffered from protein overload once too. I have coarse, naturally wavy, high porosity, low density hair that I straighten most of the time. It can happen to any hair type. I’m super careful now. Your hair looks great. Hang in there.
Please tell us what number of the Nioxin system you use. When I look up the ingredients I am finding a lot of protein in them such as citric acids, biotin.
Melissa I love that top, it’s different and lovely on you. I believe the more products we use the worse our hair and skin will be, these manufacturers tell us we need this and that just to line their already greedy pockets unfortunately. Love you girl ❤. 🏴
Awesome video!!! Thank you so much for informing us on this issue. I’ve been having the same problem for the last year. Breakage and my hair won’t hold color. I stopped coloring it, brushing it and styling it because it was breaking off so much. I have bought so many products, including supplements trying to get my hair healthy and I’m still having this issue. I’ll have to check the ingredients on the 500 products I have. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
That's so interesting about the holding color! My curl wasn't making a nice pattern. It frizzed and was stringy. And I read that can be a symptom, too. I swear I wonder if we are using too many layers and products on everything now. Skin, hair, etc. I appreciate this!
@@Melissa55 My hair did the same thing…wouldn’t hold curl and would get stringy. I will say I was going through menopause too. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ Im still not sure why my hair took a turn for the worse. I totally agree with you on using so many products. I have simplified my skin care routine somewhat, now I guess I need to simplify my hair routine. I don’t know what shampoo and conditioner to use now…
Love, love that top, it’s adorable. I have a belly, pooch so it might be too snug on me, but I think it’s so cute. You’re hair looks gorgeous curled. I use Olaplex but my hair goes thru dry spells also. I need to try something different and watch the proteins. Thank you for sharing 💕💕💕
Oh thank you, Kim!!! It's so hard to find that perfect combination that works and it's hard because what works for one person doesn't necessarily for another. I sure appreciate it!
Protein is very misunderstood when it comes to protein treatments/regular uses. Everyone's hair is different and requires different products. When it comes to protein or deep treatments JOICO is one of the absolute best products.
Hi Melissa curly or wavy (or coily) hair is a whole big rabbit hole here on youtube lol. I have curly (with some wavy bits 2c/3a) hair and only started wearing it curly several years ago. Prior to that I had blow dried it round a brush and left it in sort of loose beachy waves. I always had a ton of thick course textured hair and then menopause hit - OMG it did a number on my hair. In desperation I started doing some research and stumbled on "the curly girl method" (or at least the variation of it most people were making videos about). I stopped blow drying it and stopped everything else they said, to see if my hair would improve. Stopping the heat made a huge difference, but over the years i've gone back to shampoo and a little bit of silicone. I always had dry hair, scalp and skin, but the lack of estrogen made everything incredibly dry (I have eczema on the scalp and skin, as well as rosacea on the face and neck). I still use minimal heat and I've embraced my curls and never straighten it any more. Learning how to keep my curls looking decent and not a frizzy mess made a big difference. It's actually much much curlier than I had realised before I stopped straightening it out. I have dealt with protein overload before - having course textured hair we're told we need protein, but in actual fact my hair needs mostly moisture and just a little bit of protein. Most people need some protein, but you can also over moisturise hair if you don't balance it with some protein - it's a rabbit hole as I said and curly hair can be more difficult to care for than straight hair for sure. I'm glad your hair is feeling better and the breakage has stopped. Be careful not to eliminate protein completely as you need some, but check your products to make sure you are balancing it with moisture. I also found my hair hates aloe (it causes "flash drying" on me where water pours out of the hair and it feels brittle too), so ingredients do make a big difference. Best wishes.
You sure are right about the huge rabbit hole. I think our smooth-hair sisters are very lucky! lol. But I have a feeling they would say they have their own problems. Hormones will do a huge number on the hair. I have tried the curly girl method off and on for years, and can adapt some of it. Mine is wavy, so the full method didn't give me enough body, but so many people just do really well with it. I feel like eventually I will fully embrace my waves and wear it curly all the time, which I think will enhance the curls over time. I still like to experiment too much right now, but I see myself doing curly full time someday. Yes, I need little protein and mostly moisture, too. I hope you are well and you take care! Love to you Melissa
Thanks Melissa for this video. I hadn't heard about protein overload 😳 Shoot, I better do that strand test. I've been using a generic version of leave in Sébastien Potion 9 from Sally's. Oh oh, yup, it's got at least 3 of those protein ingredients 😵🤯
If your hair is looking really healthy, you may need that protein. What I was reading is we do need proteins in our hair. It’s just there’s some types that can’t handle too much of it. But I read that not enough can cause some problems with certain hair types. I swear it’s a full-time job trying to keep up with things. Lol. Many thanks.
@@Melissa55 it's not more fragile, it's just that the scales that seal the core of the hair are "ruffled" in places when you have curly hair and that will allow the buildup of product and loss of moisture. I have knee length hair, maybe a bit shorter after last trim, and my hair is north European: fine and with only the slightest of curl. When brushed it goes silk straight. Every time I tried to keep or force the curls for a longer period of time I got breakage. Guess that keeping everything as close to natural as it gets will always be the best solution. Conditioner should be banned :) If you want your hair conditioned just put some coconut oil a couple of hours before shampooing. It goes away fast and your hair will glow.
@@happygoluckyperson2935 I try to get it on at least half an hour before shower and have a plastic shower cap over to warm up the scalp a bit. But a couple of hours are always better. The hair is softer. Oh, and no conditioner after. Just plain shampoo to clean the hair.

Something new I learned, thanks. I'm gonna do that strand test. Will just stick with shampoo/conditioner. I don't even use conditioner all the time, makes my hair too soft. Or I just use it on my ends. Don't worry about responding to comments. It's not a priority when you get to spend time with your grandchildren. Take care Melissa.🍂🤗

Hi Melissa, Your hair looks beautiful. I'm glad you found something that works really well for your hair. I have been a life long Johnson's Baby Shampoo girl. It has worked so well for my hair. Now that I am older I dilute the shampoo with water. I usually put 1/2 cup shampoo, 1/3 cup water and 1 tablespoon of Jojoba oil. I shake it up and wash my hair. I usually put conditioner half way down my hair (called Shikai Color Reflect Daily Moisture Conditioner) first then shampoo, rinse, and then put a little more conditioner on and rinse well. I also like the Paula's Choice Smooth Finish Conditioner. I wash my hair at the end of the day so I can let my hair air dry. Your sweater is lovely. Those earrings look pretty with that sweater too. Thanks so much and I hope you have a wonderful day! Love, Karen

It really is a complex subject, because we do need protein from all I read, but in some people there is a fine line. I think the trick is to find that line and stick with it. Hormones have played a part in my thinning hair for sure. I sure do thank you1. Love, Melissa

Not sure.
My hairdresser said the same thing about the Olaplex line. She said so many of her clients were getting hair breakage using it. Thank you JD ♥️♥️♥️
@@dawnboyce3628 my hairdresser said so many people have complained of that.
Your hair looks beautiful. Please do a video on styling the curly look. 🤗👍
What ingredient name should we watch out that means protein because sometimes they have hard words that means protein so I’m
Not sure.
Thanks Melissa for sharing this!! I have the same problem as you, will be starting nioxin !
@@saniaz680 Look at Melissa's time stamp at 6:00 minutes. She puts the list on there. Other key words to watch out for are keratin, biotin, hydrolyzed quinoa, amino acids, "bond-building", or silk protein are some examples.
@@saniaz680 there are tons. But she does put some up on the screen.
Oh thank you for the heads up, Dawn!!! I will go look. I appreciate it!
Love the Blowout Professor ❤
Melissa, I add castor oil to my shampoo and conditioner and my hair is growing and is so soft and shiny
Does it leave it greasy? Which exact castor oil do you use?
Thanks for the info. Good to know! Love the shirt! And your hair came out very nice, it looks so full! 👍
Protein dries out my hair terribly. You look beautiful in this video! Going to get that cute top. Have a wonderful week!
Oh thank you Debbie!!! I think my hair isn't too fond of much protein either!!!! I sure thank you! 💙💙💙

Oh thank you, Kathy!!! I'm curious what you find out when you test your hair!!! Love ya girl!
Love the top! Your hair looks great curly!
Thank you, Lois. It had gotten so brittle it was frizzy instead of curly. My texture has already changed. I appreciate you!
Melissa this explains a lot! I am going through the same issue. Thanks!
Thank you. I used to never have this problem. It's been eye opening to read about it. Many thanks!
Thank you! Super informative ❤ Appreciate you sharing the “buzz”words 😘 You look fab! 😍
Same!!
I got a Keratin treatment once. It did ok, but I wouldn't want to anymore. I remember she told me she had had some people say it broke off their hair. Yes, I think I can use just a tiny bit maybe, but then just not layer so much. Take care and thanks!
@SunshineGirl can you list some of the products you use without protein? thanks
Can you recommend any leave-in conditioners or shampoo/conditioners, in addition to Nioxin, that is protein-free?
yes this would be really helpful.
😨😱I think I have it, your hair always looks beautiful!! Watching the video after work!! Blessings beautiful Melissa!!

Love ya. Xoxo 😘

Hi Melissa,
I didn’t know you could overload on protein with your hair. It was interesting finding out about that. Your hair looks lovely today. Kindness, Teresa
Well, thank you so much. I think it’s a fine line. Because you do need protein in your hair. I just gather, that certain types don’t need quite as much and it can do the opposite. I really appreciate it.
your hair looks beautiful today🥰
aw, thank you!
Hi Melissa. You know, this is some really good information. After washing my hair, I tried to stretch my hair, and it didn't break!! Of all of the TH-camrs I've watched throughout the years, I've learned the most from you, and Elle. Love you, my beautiful friend..MaryEllen

Thank you for sharing your research and experience with your hair. Love your hair it looks so shiny and healthy.❤️🌺
Oh thank you! so kind of you!
Yes I had the same problem u also need to use a clarifying shampoo
This was perfect timing for my porous white hair issues. Please let us know what products you are using. Sorry if I missed it during the video.
Many thanks.

aw, thank you, Sandra. You have gorgeous hair. It always looks beautiful. Love and many thanks!
Thanks, Melissa. Much appreciated 👍.
Also , you mention your grandkids.

That's so interesting about the holding color! My curl wasn't making a nice pattern. It frizzed and was stringy. And I read that can be a symptom, too. I swear I wonder if we are using too many layers and products on everything now. Skin, hair, etc. I appreciate this!

You are just so beautiful, Melissa. Have a great week.
You look so amazing!😊🥰
All I do to my hair is use shampoo. I let it dry naturally or blow dry a couple of minutes. Mine is thin but it’s soft.
This was so helpful. I have naturally curly hair & have noticed the exact same thing. Thank you! Will check my ingredients.
Shelly, I think hair like ours is more susceptible to this from what I read at naturally curly. It's more fragile I think. Thanks girl!
@@thamieklybodonmi put coconut oil on before shampoo? How long do you leave it on?
@@happygoluckyperson2935 I try to get it on at least half an hour before shower and have a plastic shower cap over to warm up the scalp a bit. But a couple of hours are always better. The hair is softer.
Oh, and no conditioner after. Just plain shampoo to clean the hair.

She used my shower the first night and told me I was using Shampoo with Wheat Proteins in it, and Formaldehyde. she told me to throw them away (OgX), and buy L'Oreal EverPUre Sulfate Free Shampoo/ Conditioner. So far its working fine.

Love, Karen
Where do you get the shikakai conditioner your using ?
I buy the Shikai Color Reflect Daily Moisture Conditioner from Amazon
Thanks, Karen! I remember my cousin used the Johnson's for years and she diluted it too. You use some great products! I'm trying to wash my hair at night, too. awwww, thank you so much. Take care! Much love, Melissa
Melissa, you enjoy those grandkids!! Getting "caught up in life" is a good thing! 💖
Thank you so much, Cammie, and that is such a true statement. I appreciate.
Hi Melissa! I love your videos! I just wanted to say the curls in your hair look amazing! Did you use a special type of curling iron?
Oh thank you! I used a one inch curling wand and then pinned the curl to my head. I think I'm going to do a video on it tomorrow. I think you!
,MELISSA You LOOK BEAUTIFUL !! Which number of Nioxin line do you like to use…..we have very similar hair and I haven’t used Nioxin in years ….probably need to go back to it.
I had just bought the olaplex clarifying shampoo so I hope that doesn’t have protein
Your all beautiful. Love your earrings where did you purchase?
Please do a Hair video on how you got that look today.
You look fab. Enjoy your life and don't worry 😉💕
Boy, I'd never heard of too much protein. I'd never heard of protein. Now I've got to check it all out. I've been losing hair for years. It's a very complex subject. I don't know if it's lack of hormones, major surgeries or age. Thanks for the information.
It really is a complex subject, because we do need protein from all I read, but in some people there is a fine line. I think the trick is to find that line and stick with it. Hormones have played a part in my thinning hair for sure. I sure do thank you1. Love, Melissa
