I remember, with Jag under Ford, Lincoln used wooden steering wheels in the 1st gen Navigator and LS in the exact same style as the Jags like these XK8s.
The steering wheels were supplied by an Italian company Momo, but the rest of the veneered interior was produced in the Jaguar Browns Lane Coventry veneer centre. Jag along with Rolls and Bentley were the only manufacturers who had the capability to produce their own veneered componets, others (BMW, MB etc) sourced them to a variety of outfits across Europe and Turkey, but in doing so, ceded styling integrity.
@@makelikeatree1696 5 second flat 0-60. Pretty damn good for normal/non crazy speed enthusiast standards. Good enough for me, im actually looking at an ‘03 XKR with 70,000 miles for 8 grand.

If this car in anywhere near $20k it is a buy. The last year for tgis model , they had really gotten this car to be reliable. This is the one to own if you want own one.
My 06 Jaguar XKR Victory Edition Convertible with 35000 orig on the car is the BOMB with more than enough power to boot and 1 of 350 made in soft top...LOVE IT!! Will sell for no less than 25500
I have an 2010 XK and I had a '64 XKE. I find very little in common. The E-type weighed around 2500 lbs and the XK is almost 4,000 lbs. Inboard rear brakes, clamshell hood, no back seats, tri-carb vs FI. While there are a few styling cues, not really all that alike.
Well I wanted to find a review of the 05-06 in regards to maintenance. Instead I got an infomercial. I have owned several beginning with late 80's XJ8. Then a couple of 98 XK8 models which have same basic features, but nothing but problems. Transmission issues, water pump failed (luckily I knew what was happening when the temperature started to rise and changed pump quickly). And those damn failed chain tensioners and guides. I was hoping to find an expert that could tell me that's all been solved on an 05-06 model. Love the looks, hated my repair bills.
Gorgeous vehicle, the reliability on this year is awesome, anything before 2002 for a XK8 stay far away from, nothing but problems for those years they got all of the kinks out the engine after that, this year reliability and above is awesome.
Dude, I live in Raleigh and people here wear SKi Parkas when it’s 65!! They dress by Calendar, weather!! Labor Day is the barrier, before Labor Day, no coat, after, for exact same weather, Parka! I ask them, “What do you do when it ACTUALLY GETS cold? Cut open an animal and climb in???” I’m from NY and I’ve worn a coat a whopping 10 times in 5 years. When it dips to teens. wear shorts 12x365 and have long sleeve shirts but it must by in 30s. Otherwise I don’t feel it.

The next generation XK was lighter 91kg, at that time Jaguar started using a lot of aluminium. But the next generation didn't have the look nor the wood trims in the interior.
@@keithgale2596 Not what I meant lol. I meant, of the Jaguars with WOOD wheels, are they all mismatched? The woods grain pattern doesn't match at all! Totally different species.
@@Johnathan_Waters Jaguar made all of the veneered components in their veneer manufacturing centre in the Browns Lane plant, but the wheel was made by Momo in Italy, a steering wheel specialist. It is a totally different process applying the veneer to a steering wheel compared to flatter components, requiring different machinery. It was not worth setting up a separate facility for a relatively small number of wheels. So as you saw, the veneer selected by the Italian company would befrom a different tree (or log as they are called in the business), and the feature and colour could never be the same. It would also be affected by UV rays differently to the dash because of its position in the car, and would weather slightly differently to the dashboard, and other components. Hope that explains it.
Don't you hate it when you grab a graphic from the info box in front of a house for sale and they don't have a price on the info sheet? There's a reason these guys don't want to include a price in this video. Think about it. The price is too high. You have to know it's coming because they oversold the car. They're chilling you about the Royal family and the light touch the previous owner had but they don't tell you that this kind of exotic luxury car has no resale value. Once Ford got ahold of Jaguar they became much more reliable and make one of the best buys out there. The same can be said for Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura but especially the higher-end luxury cars. Everybody's afraid of the high repair bills. But the truth is these newer jags aren't that bad but everybody still thinks they are so nobody wants to buy them so they sell for thousands back of wholesale book at auctions. I sold my dealership and retired back in 2006. I've actually been looking for an older XK8 but I hate salesmen :O
In my opinion...still one of the best looking vehicles ever to grace the road! (The back seat is there for insurance purposes so the car is not classified as a roadster which defines as only a 2 seater). That being said...dont be fooled. These "cats" hate any kind of moisture (rain) and have ALL KINDS of mechanical/electrical problems!!! DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT buy one of these if they have not had the timing chain tensioner(s) retro replacement job done (a VERY expensive job requiring hours of labor and the front of the car removed). Jaguar used 4 nylon composite timing chain tensioners within the engine. The issue? The timing chains are naturally metal...metal wears the composite tensioners down by 20k miles ...the timing chain gets loose, jumps the cam sprockets and you have a destroyed motor which turns the car into a pretty paperweight. This is why an originally priced $71,000 car can be bought in pristine condition with around 20k miles for $14,000 or much much less. Personally, I think the hard-tops are much more aesthetically pleasing. They are beautiful vehicles...but beware and READ THE SERVICE RECORDS. Or I guarantee, you will be very sorry.
Realistic advice John - but a bit of scaremongering in my view. I have an early 1996 version (24 years old now) and it has been one of the most reliable cars I have ever had. It stays outside all year round (in the British weather!) and has never failed to start. It has original engine, gearbox and diff etc - obviously a few bushes have been replaced but the most problem area was the A drum in the gearbox (German ZF box). I do of course look after it - and agree with the sentiments regarding the tensioners. I replaced these myself, on the driveway with minimum special tools and it wasnt a huge problem or expensive. I would never trust a Jag dealer to do this or it will be expensive - but there are plenty of independants that will do this for around £1000. Even in Britain these are cars are less common on the roads now - and people just cannot believe how little I paid for it or how old it is (original paintwork). Hey - lets not tell them, and keep these gems a little secret!
The car is gorgeous, nice color combo too until he brought in the "royal pain diaz" to ruin it. The beautiful car speaks for itself, it doesn't need no powerful people to make it look good.

Some younger customers do not like wood, they had options of aluminium or piano black as well as walnut burr.
