  • The new Hyundai Venue SEL takes on the likes of the Kia Seltos S and Kia Soul S. Though these three all come from the same corporation, some people may be cross-shopping between them. If that's the case, then this comparison aims to narrow down which model is best for you based on your SUV buying needs.
I evaluate each SUV in seven different categories:
    1. Value (Price and features of each vehicle)
    2. Safety (Both active safety features and passive IIHS results)
    3. Power-train and performance (Engine, transmission, 0-60 time)
    4. Fuel Economy (EPA rated fuel efficiency)
    5. Reliability (Rated by Consumer Reports)
    6. Functionality (How well the SUV performs intended function)
    7. Styling (How each SUV looks, from my point of view)

Even though I've already done hours of research I still love watching reviews. The Venue seemed too small for me and it was a toss up between the Seltos, Soul and a Jeep Renegade. To get a Renegade the way I would like it was way overpriced. So the Renegade was no longer an option. I went from a used 2005 Optima to a new 2013 Rio. The Rio was great on my wallet but terrible on my back. In 2016 I traded up for a Soul +. In 2016 I discovered that they had an AWD concept Soul and was hoping that eventually it would go into production. A couple of months ago I asked about an AWD Soul and the dealer tried to push me towards a Seltos.
The Seltos is a first generation vehicle and only time will tell how good it really is. The Soul is a third generation vehicle and is much more refined. The Seltos looks like someone stuck a tablet on the dash. The Soul has a nicely integrated display in the dash. I went with the Undercover Green, Soul EX. The 2016 Soul + was wonderful and the 2021 is even better. The 2.0L on the 2016 Soul + had 164 HP. The 2.0L on the 2021 is 147 HP but has more pick up. The transmission has improved and no longer does that yo yo thing when coasting down hill. The selling points for me was, third generation vehicle, heated seats and the Seltos is not offered in Undercover Green. Also, the new Soul comes with a spare time and the trunk floor can drop down about 8 inches for more room. However, the weather sucked today and AWD would have been nice.

Great, simple, straightforward video!! I'm a soul guy and I truly believe if the soul were AWD, there would be no comparison to the seltos. The venue catches my eye when considering my girlfriend wants to move on from her nissan juke. Thanks for the great comparisons !

Lots of information packed into the review. Much appreciated. Some comments.
() The Venue is a vehicle originally designed and built for the Asian and Latin American markets. (Much like the Ford Ecosport.) In those markets consumers prefer (or are satisfied with) significantly smaller and more importantly less expensive vehicles. I suspect Hyundai doesn't expect many sales from the Venue (again like the Ecosport.) But Hyundai and KIA are masters at slicing a market segment into smaller sub-segments and the Venue appears to be a budget alternative to the far more popular, larger, and better equipped Kona. And the Veunue is targeted specifically at the Ecosport and other sub-subcompact vehicles. (The Venue is only 159" in length. Most subcompact crossovers average about 170" long.)
() The Soul has been an unexpected sales bonanza for KIA. Its demographic appeal is remarkable. Here in the Seattle area it's popular among "twenty something" hipsters, young families, and downsizing Seniors. Originally aimed at competing with Nissan Cube and Honda Element, the Soul has outlasted them both and sold so well the the trim choices have been expanded to six separate models. I suspect my local KIA dealer could sell Souls via a vending machine and eliminate a salesperson. At 165" long the Soul is small even for a subcompact crossover. (Six inches longer than the Venue and 5" less than the Seltos.) But its boxy shape gives it more than adequate interior room, both for passengers in the rear seat and in terms of overall cargo space.
Nonetheless, as much as Soul fans love its funky, highly versatile shape, it's undeniably (ahem) "polarizing." A look that puts a natural ceiling on the vehicle's sales. And despite KIA's marketing effort to re-brand the Soul as a "crossover," it lacks an essential feature consumers associate with SUVs, i.e. All Wheel Drive. (KIA says they considered adding AWD as an option for the Soul but abandoned the plan when surveys of Soul owners indicated a substantial portion believed the Soul already had AWD!)
() Enter the Seltos. A more conventional looking subcompact crossover with optional AWD. And though externally shaped more for looks than pure functionality the Seltos' extra five inches of length offers slightly more cargo space than the Soul. (24.2/62.1 cub ft vs 26.6/62.8 cf) but slightly less overall headroom, especially in the second row. (39.5" vs 38.0") In any event the Seltos leads every other subcompact crossover by a huge margin in terms of interior space. For example, the Mazda CX-30 provides 20.2 cf/45.2 cf cargo space. (For reference an airline carry on bag is about 1.6 cubic ft in size.)
() I appreciate the effort to choose comparable vehicles in your videos. I know it's a difficult task because automakers mix and match the features of trim levels and options in a variety of ways. For example, some brands offer a trim level with a relatively small list of options and require a customer to move to another trim level or add option "packages" to get particular features. Others, particularly European manufacturers, have literally dozens of individual features that can be added to a particular vehicle trim level of a vehicle.
One way to cope with the issue of comparability is to select loaded top trim models of each vehicle that demonstrates all the features a particular vehicle has to offer. This approach sometimes leads to complaints that such trim levels are beyond the reach of some consumers but it offers a more complete picture of the potential features of a particular vehicle.

I appreciate the feedback and your input! I've toyed with the idea of comparing loaded models in the past, but you're right about the complaints that would result because of it--hence why I stick with mid-range trims.
Typically I compare pretty apples to apples across segments, but in this comparison (and in a few of my more recent ones) I have crossed segments, stayed within brands and more for comparing cars--only because I am waiting for the 2021 model year cars to come out before I re-start the process with my more traditional apples to apples comparisons. Looking forward to what's ahead!

only thing about the soul is the stiff ride my mom has a 2020 it’s not like bad to where it feels like the cars body is gonna fall apart but it could be a little bit more soft and i think for the 2021 version they updated it on the upper trims which is appreciated

In all honesty, I don't think it's fair to compare Seltos to Venue. Both belong in different segments. True competitor from Hyundai against Kia's Seltos would be Kona. For size, engine and over all vehicle segment, Venue is definitely a lesser car every bit.

    • @Allcarseveryday
      @Allcarseveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Totally correct! Only reason I chose these three is because I noticed that they are being cross-shopped based on search data. If anything I hope that I helped people realize that the Venue shouldn't be cross-shopped with the other two.

Sorry to post again but don’t want you to miss it
On that jeep grand Cherokee rising in sales. It’s because Maserati Ferrari and Fiat but jeep in 2014. Look at a 2015-2020 $130,00 3.0T Maserati Levante and a $32,000 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (or Limited) 2.0T
They’re the same vehicle built on the same assembly line with the same screens, infotainment, material, switches, buttons, and same Ferrari engine design in the jeep but factory built instead of hand built. The ZF 8 speed auto found in jeep products is built by ZF (not FCA) and BMW buys that exact same transmission for their entire lineup.
They take all those nice materials and make them even nicer and bigger screens in the grand Cherokee
Meanwhile it has 4x4 and AWD Along with a hellcat engine that makes it the fastest SUV ever made.
Yes the platform dates back 10 years but it’s completely redesigned by Maserati in 2015 and rides completely different with nicer materials and way different technology
Compare that to a Subaru with AWD (no 4x4) CVT (no gears) less than 200hp in most SUVs And the smallest screen in the dash which Jeep had in 2011 and people called that small then.
Subaru makes the most cheapest interiors possible with the slowest engines and a horrible CVT just to get an extra 3 mpg (save $120 in gas a year) over their competitors.
They claim they’re an off-road brand but Volkswagen, Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Kia, almost every other brand is better at what Subaru says they’re good at.
Anything you like about Subaru other brands do better. Although I give them credit for sticking to their LGBT history which I am not for or against.

I rented a Kona once while traveling. WAY to small for everyday / everyway use. Kia Soul is spacious in comparison and a few thou less. At least consider it.

OK that screen that you said was 8 inch was clearly the upgraded tenant so you clearly weren’t paying attention

    • @Allcarseveryday
      @Allcarseveryday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Nope. Every screen shown was an eight-inch screen. Measured in diagonal, as all screen sizes are.
