Most of my other folks have had some fun ones and the s80 sob story aside (won't work on them.. read: one Volvo not to buy... 1999-2004ish depending who you talk to..) and a few 960 b6304s with porous blocks, they are fun to work on and being a true turbobricker I can say I like my old "cheap" stuff.

@hooviesgarage here's a quick tip for getting oil out of your clothes.
Use 1/2 the amount of detergent you'd normally use, and add 4-5 drops of Dawn liquid dish soap. Your clothes will come out like new again. Dawn can also be used for spot treatment and food stains. 👍

The best thing with a volvo redblock engine is that changing the timing belt is not very important, it's non interference so when it brakes you just put it back again. mark the timings when you get it and then you never have to worry about it :D

It's nice that the Wizard is letting you do some wrenching in his garage with his tools. Knowing how to do some of this stuff is worthwhile knowing how if you are going to drive these older cars. I learned this when I had a 1982 300 SD MB turbo Diesel. I don't have the car anymore, it was in rough shape when I bought it and I had a part of the frame break and it was not reparable. I really liked the car and I am looking for another!

I'm at the point now where I want to do things, but also understand the time value of money. So picking and choosing my battles, but also realizing where "I really don't want to do that.. it's worth paying for". :)

I've got a 1990 n/a automatic 240 DL and up until late this past August, it sat in our garage for 20 years. A new fuel tank, both fuel pumps, fuel and oil filters, oil change, belts, starter, ECU and brake fluid, and alternator and that ole brick is back strong as ever!
Very clean for an Ohio car, extremely little body rust but the bulk of the bad rust is on the suspension. It's ok for now but I will be redoing the suspension soon.

Turned a '90 745T with a bad head ($600) for about $200 and sold it for $1400...225K miles or so. 740/760 with the 'ol B23/B230F is amazingly great to work on, just takes a bit of practice. When you're done, don't forget to replace that turbo inlet hose from the airbox...the duct tape is leaking and costing you valuable boost. 😉

They do sell "full strut assemblies." They are called quick struts and they come with the the springs and everything installed. Easier to swap out that way, but cost more and the quality may not be as good. But wrenching is hard. My biggest issue is rusted and stuck bolts. You had it easy with the Wizard's lift. Try wrenching with just a floor jack and jack stands! Great video, though. Looking forward to the turbo brick being fully sorted!

I see it has a lower chassis brace - helps reduce body flex. Might want to check the bushings for the control arm stay rod, they tend to crack and deteriorate with age and allow the control arms to move enough to usually cause vibration typically when braking. You might even want to upgrade to the later " jumbo brakes " with the thicker and larger front rotors along with the callipers. Still think you should invest in a set of IPD sway bars but regardless, have fun with it.
