It's important to align the subframe correctly using the locating holes in the chassis, you need a special tool as per the workshop manual, but you can use two 18mm round steel rods, they slot through the subframe into the chassis, if they don't go in you know it's not aligned properly.
Planning on doing this at some point in the future and your videos are always helpful to give me an idea on what’s involved. Also glad to see someone else spending time and money on keeping their mk6 alive. Brilliant cars 👌

Just take your time with it and youll do it and just make sure that all the underside bolts loosen nice undo then tighten then undo and retighten just to break that rust seal off them as they are soooo tight if they haven’t been touched before, reach out if you have any issues
It's easier/safer to undo the two bolts holding the steering rack and tie it up, and leave the union joint alone. The subframe will fall away then. You don't need to drop the suspension or disconnect the driveshafts, just pop the lower balljoint out on the control arms.
