FYI. It’s not hardware failure or slow computer or overheating. . I have a 2.7 quad core 2tb MacBook Pro with 32gb of ram. So please stop saying that...it worked just fine when I switched to rekordbox so it’s not hardware. It wasn’t vibration because the speakers were in front and nowhere near the controller, but again...worked fine with rekordbox.
got a gig coming up and was planning on using vdj2020, ima test it out first. I always have a tablet with appropiate tracks in the aux channel ready to go in case i have to restart my computer or switch to my backup one. The crowd never even knows it, and theres no awkward silence
@@doctormasterdevil I have had that same issue with an sx2 and sx3 using serato, It seems to be a voltage issue or an improper ground issue. Can't say its the same thing for you but it might be worth looking into.
@@nicholassampson5280 i used serato dj and serato pro for about 5 years with the sx2 and had no issues at all. I used serato since the scratch live days, but switched over to virtual dj about 4 months ago. Got tired of the shitty support for windows, especially the dog shit video plugin, most of my library consists of video, and vdj is a monster when it comes fown to video and overall features. I like the 2020 skin too, ive always hated the ugly as fuck virtual dj skin layout, and user skins are garbage so glad it now looks like a real dj software.
@@doctormasterdevil Just giving my experience with the products, so if there is an idea for a solution for it. This is my second sx2, the first one I never had an issue with only the newer one, did a gig last Sunday with an sx3 and the issue came up again, got an outlet tester and the outlet had a ground issue. I'm not saying that the hardware is trash or bashing, just putting it out there to compare notes. I am yet to try VDJ, from these reviews I am ill to give it a try.

I respect you and this video more than you'll ever know. After what just happened to you, you could have easily come on here and bashed the crap out of VDJ 2020 and I wouldn't have had an issue with that at all. However, instead of just bashing the program, you kept an open mind that maybe, just maybe this is fixable with more testing, feedback etc... That is true intelligence to me. I guess you can call me a VDJ fanboy but if what happened to you ever happened to me, I wouldn't ever use VDJ again until I knew for sure the problem was totally fixed. As an FYI, I use VDJ 2020 with the Pioneer DDJ-800 in a professional environment DJing for many hours at a time 3 to 4 days per week with zero issues. I have never experienced what you have. I can also add that I use a PC and not a Mac. Not sure if that helps, but I sincerely hope you and the kind folks at Atomix can resolve your issues together.

I had the SAME issue last Saturday with my DDJ 1000 with VDJ 2020 during a wedding I did! Thank god it happened during cocktail hour and not during open dance, but I had to reset everything. After that, had no issues

Terry, thank you for sharing this video! I *did* see this VDJ8 issue, when I was using an American Audio VMS2 on Windows 10. That was almost 2 years ago. Since then, I've upgraded the computer, Windows 10 has gone through a bunch of updates, VDJ went to 2020, and... I switched to using a 24 inch touch screen and external sound interface. That means no MIDI controller. I also am not that heavy on the platters. There isn't much similar between my hardware and yours, except that I had the issue when I used a USB MIDI controller. I am learning to use the touch screen as a surface, and it is coming along. My day job is consuming my time, but I am getting there!
I always use two computers with identical music libraries. If one plays up I can keep the music going in a second. I do occasionally have problem with vdj 2020 at startup, but a reboot, with the controller powered up at boot, usually fixes it. For me, the program has always been glitchy with controllers, and I guess it still is. My answer - give yourself plenty of time before the gig is due to start and hopefully get everything working okay before the party starts. Great video!
Hi dj Terry, this is dj solid Joel, addressing the issue you have with VDJ 2020. All you would have done was to pull out your USB CORD from the computer and back in again, this usually solves the problem. A much better way for the issue not to happen at all in the first place, is to totally disconnect your internet on the computer while doing a live gig. I promise you that the problem will never occur again. I have much experience with this software as I have used it in numerous live gigs with no issues.
Using vdj2020 with mcx8000..so far so good..reason i decided on the mcx8000 was the ability to play standalone and with computer at the same time or seperate..although there were bad reviews whrn it first came out ...hope u get everything resolved ..seems you handled it all very professional and kept the party rockin ..great job sir
Hey Terry love your videos, Ive been a DJ for over 30 yrs,, Im telling you from major experience, I took some time off to raise a family and got back into it around 2014. Seriously had to go back to school seeing all the guys using laptops so I didn't know good from bad. When I bought my new controller American Audio VMS2 just to do a small gig and get my feet wet again, it came with VDJ 7 I think so I loaded it up. Seem to work fine for awhile then it did what I saw your screen its the same side jog dial, I said damn it the same thing that happened to me!! During a show, during a wedding, several times.. I got off VDJ and switched to Serato and got off Windows and switched to MacBook. Ive had no issues with Serato for the last 2 yrs since I switched. I'm telling you for some reason its the right jog dial that starts not responding I thought it was the USB cord like you have mentioned before and I said SOB was that the cause the whole time?? But then I saw yours doing the same thing.. so I had a Windows laptop it was doing it on, you have a Mac so its got to be the software. just my two cents.. but I said shit there it goes again when I saw it,, what I would like to know is how you switch to rekordbox during a gig?? Did you switch laptops?? It didn't appear that you did.. sorry for the long post. What's the ghost in the machine??? hope that helps someone..peace & unity..
Hey Terry. I feel you pain... Ive been in that situation myself and it puts you through the ringer damm. VDJ2020 I just upgraded to it early this week. I'm a PC user "windows 10 sucks" And use a pioneer DDJ SR. I gigged with it last night and didn't experience any issues. Audio was good no glitches no loss of jog wheel control. I think you may be on to some with pioneer and software compatibility.

I had this same problem when I went from Ns6 to NS7iii, I bought a new USB Cable and that fixed it. I bought my cable from DJ TechTools. That cable seemed to work better then even the usb cable that came with the stock. I Know your the man and you will figure it out brother. Peace!

Hi Cleveland Terry Bowens i’m hailing from the Caribbean,(Trinidad & Tobago) and i had the same problem with my controller not responding to VDJ. I had a bar gig on Friday and when was my time to play my VDJ was moving really sluggish so i tried re starting and still had the same problem. So i closed off VDJ and opened up my SDJ and i got the same problem. What saved me was i had to uninstall and reinstall both programs. Cant say what caused the problem but i hope it doesn’t come back again...

Australian DJ here. I use VDJ 2018 with rmx2 Hercules and I was using mac book pro and it messed up so I changed to HP laptop and have had no major issues so far
Sorry to hear about this experience. I am a DDJ 1000 / Virtual DJ User, I have had more issues using Rekordbox than with Virtual DJ. I use both Music and Video. I have had experienced a similar situation like a while back but a reset did it for me. Computer updates maybe? Hopefully you can get it checked / fixed, soon. Thanks for sharing.

I use a Numark NVII with VDJ 2020 thus far, no issues. On my old Mixtrack I had tons of issues with VDJ and the hardware not properly communicating with the software, I've had issues with Serato and my NVII similar to what you had in this vlog, thankfully it worked itself out after a couple of tracks and didn't repeat that night.

First BIG gig tomorrow night with DDJ 1000 and VDJ2020 - hope I dont experience this will have my backup laptop running VDJ 2018 and my DDJ-SX on standby just in case this happens to me. All my testing with the 1000 and 2020 has been fine. But nothing is like a live gig.

/Had no problems - everything worked flawlessly using manual beat matching and also gave sync a good test run. I used key adjust a few times as well. Used most features at some point in the night didn't even hint to an error. Had backup laptop on standby that is still on 2018 just in case, but no need.
You have some major balls using Virtual DJ at a gig. Rekordbox DJ works flawless always with the DDJ-1000. I would never ever ever try that again.

Cleveland, I'm glad u posted this video. I can tell you theirs been many issues with pioneer hardware working with VDJ. first experienced it with VDJ 7 and CDJ-400's, the 400 is a great unit supporting midi and built in soundcard, VDJ Utilised this but after few hours playing it got sluggish and sound sounded like it had been pulled through a washing machine. Resetting it helped for a while. I now use a Pioneer DJM-5000 with Midi disabled and use a external sound card (Traktor Audio 6) along with my Denon SC-2000's. since version 8 i haven't experienced any glitches , But i always have another audio source playing in case of the fatal crash. I'm planning to use my DDJ-RB With VDJ 20 This week.
So all DJ's that use comps please consider taking an ipad or tablet for a back up (if not an entire extra laptop) because THINGS.HAPPEN.DOT.COM!
Make a few 15 - 20 mixes of different genres that you would play out live with a sweeper/intro/drops to segue from your main computer to the backup and then launch the appropriate mix. Hopefully any issue you have can be resolved within that time and you can resume playing on your main setup without any issues and no one will even notice. I hope this helps someone :)

I love the fact that you are , using vdj while critiquing, I usually experience that with serato, although it never crashed during a gig

I'm not a rekord box user but VDJ has always given me issues. When I started DJing I always used traktor and serato. I'm a serato user. My buddy told me to try VDJ for my mobile gigs. So I did and it worked but always had some issues 😭

I will say I have a numark ns6 2. This controller was made for Serato DJ. I too have seen major glitches with virtual DJ 2020. My crossfader will go out. I've had to go to settings and reboot it several times to get it to work. Also the audio sometimes sounds off. Like a different key or something. I have chalked it up to maybe because my controller is made for Serato it glitches with VDJ. I haven't experienced any issues with jog wheels, but definitely like I mentioned my crossfader definitely. I also use a PC. Very disappointing because II really wanted to use VDJ 2020. Great content though bro. And your mixes were on point for this event 💯

I haven't seen it yet, but i am on a PC. I have a feeling it might be the MAC code, coz its very different to the way u have to code for windows

What up family. I'm totally with you on this one and its mostly its what you said about the hardware not giving a feed back to the VDJ2020 software. I seen that when you show it. Now I am not a pioneer user but last year my VDJ in 2018 it was doing something funny when I was broad casting on the software it was having some up and downs moment for me. When I rest the broadcast it work out fine for me so I did some research on it and man I can't not deny I though it was my laptop for some reason but they been doing some more upgrades for DJ's who can go live since now they adding few things I can work with. So I will doing some live DJ set asap when I get to my new place. For now I am using Hercules Starlight Control for practices. My main hardware I got in 2013 Vestax VCI-380. I will be doing some more work on my software deep since I am Fan Boy VDJ user since 2010. So that been said I think VDJ wil paid close attention to the Pioneer Hardware's updates real soon I see u use it very well. Keep up the work they will see this vlog and they will paid attention to it. Keep up the work. Funk Up Salute Peace.
P.S I am a PC user soo that tells u a lot I am not a Mac or apple user lol!!

Great video again. The problem with vdj could be the new vdj software or Mac. I use vdj 2020 on windows with pioneer sb3 and I used it multiple times with no issues so far. In serrato, I've been have issues not detecting my controller, and for some reason, serato wont let me use the sb3 with my laptop interal or an external soundcard, it only let's me use the line outs on my controller, I'm not sure why.
Just a note on my experience with the DDJ-1000srt version. I picked up my DDJ-1000srt about a month ago. I had a strange issue with the jogs when they are NOT in scratch mode, where they do not respond to very subtle/slow movements like when setting up a cur point etc. It was VERY annoying. I thought it was perhaps a hardware issue. Was using Serato. When VDJ2020 came out and added support, this issue did not happen. For me VDJ2020 has been stable with no issues testing with streaming sets for the past 3 weeks. (iI always preferred VDJ over Serato) running on my 2016 MBP 15" with touch bar. So that tells me the issue is with Serato itself. Goin to be using the 1000srt with VDJ2020 for my first "live" event, a wedding in just over a week, but bringing my MC6000 mk2 as a backup. This is also the first time I have owned a Pioneer controller (did use to rock CDJ's back in the day)
Hi, Cleveland I use VDJ 2000 With the DDJ 1000 and what I found is the USB that you use to plug-in from your laptop to the controller doesn't like a lot of movement or vibration when using VDJ. Watching your video I saw a lot of movement & vibration going on there and that will cause the problem that you're experiencing. So what I did to combat that problem I got a flight case for my DDJ 100 with the sliding table to put my laptop & a folding four leged piano stand to put it on. now when I do gigs's I do not use the DJ booths unless they are rock solid and the space of course. now I make sure where I put my setup is solid to reduce movement and vibration and I've not had a problem since. it only happens on VDJ, not on rekordbox. Hope this is useful.

My current setup is VDJ 20 with my Denon DN-S3700's. I've used it mainstream at gigs without freeze, or glitches. It's running Win10 64bit. I have a 2012 MacBook pro is my backup.

I use Virtual dj.. Never really had hardware issues. I use Numark NS7II and pioneer ddjsb..
Three gigs (each in duration of 7-8 hours) so far with VDJ 2020 on my old lowly but so far trustworthy DDJ-SR on Win10 and no issues at all. (Laptop with Core i5-3210 from 2012).
I have a ddj 1000 and I use VDJ2020, I had similar problems. So I just done an experiment I got an external sound card and used that to output the audio of VDJ to the inputs of the DDJ1000 mixer so using the ddj1000 as an analogue mixer, while also using it as a controller with its sound card disabled. I've been using it for six months like that I have never a glitch.
I've got the same DDJ1000 Rekordbox, and have used VDJ for the last 3 years, yes I've seen this. but I haven't seen it recently tbh, so I thought commenting was relevant, and I've seen it both on my MBP and my windows machine.
I have only had one crash using VDJ 2020 during a gig and it was due to my grabbing faulty files - once I got rid of the files my old Numark was back in action and I PRAY it does not ever happen again - to you or me #loyaltovdj
DAM that is is SO EMBARSING. . . . Ive had that happen several times of 15 years of using vdj, and it sucks but over all several times in 15 years is not to bad , it makes you sweat bullets, I actually got a gig tonight and have not upgraded to vdg 20 yet . . . thank God!

Heey Clevland...another good video as always. I guess I can add my 2 cents in here about the issue you had with VDJ. I use the DDJ SX2 with VDJ and never had that problem so my guess would be the VDJ software but I bet there will be another update soon if others are having the same issue when using VDJ with the DDJ 1000.
To be honest, I don't think it's VDJ 20 the problem, I think it's the controller. Been having some hiccups(1 out of 10) while using the 1000 with VDJ 18 and 20. I have 3 controllers DDJ 1000, SX2 and SB3 and only the 1000 be having hiccups. I really give VDJ credit to be able for Us to use the 1000 on VDJ but i think Pioneer did something to the 1000 to be used only on rekordbox

I've had a lot of problems w/ VDJ 2020 but, none w/ rekordbox or Serato DJ Pro. my equipment is the Pioneer's DJM-900nxs2 and 2 CDJ-2000NXs2, VDJ was a real mess while working w/ it, so it has to be a proprietary software thing.
I always check to see if my Windows 10 is up to date (for those of you that use windows) also it doesn't hurt to update your video card as well as your PC's Bios, doing these few things will make your gig's a non problem , you shouldn't have to re-set all the time. I fine it a lot easier just to bring along a some SSD USB Hard drives or sticks, and just forget about using the laptop.
Last wedding gig that I DJed, I used the DDJ-1000 with rekordbox dj version 5.70 and it is giving me problems while playing songs on the right deck. I am contemplating to use the cdj-2000nxs2 for this weekends wedding instead. Something is going on with DDJ-1000 firmware or rekordbox dj software.

After updating to VDJ 20 I had a problem with the right deck not responding. I switched over to 4 deck mode used the 4th deck and everything was ok. Then all of a sudden that stopped working as well. Had my Oh Sh*t CD and played it until I restarted.
I also had a problem while scratching on deck 2 lost control over the deck as well on a seperate occasion.
I am using a Roland DJ 202 on a Windows 10 laptop.
I had a big issue last weekend using the updated version of VDJ. I have a Numark Platinum Controller. I started an effects loop over a track and nothing I did would turn it off. I tried playing a different song on the other deck and it still wouldn’t stop. It got so bad and out of time I had to pull the plug. Not good! No music while I had to close everything and reset. By the time I started again the vibe on the dance floor was gone. I now know not to use the effects loop but this now scares me on what else could go wrong.

@@ClevelandTerry ok I will check it out. I need something affordable but reliable. So I have this question about record pools. I understand that they want to promote music for the record label and artists and want to filter out I guess people by asking future o possible customers by social media page or association with club or such thing but they still want you to pay a monthly feed. Why making people like myself life difficult since I do this more often for fun and do not a DJ social media base page or association with any club to satisfy there requirement but I am willing to pay monthly. I just needed to let that out of my system T.

That´s the reason i never ever use VDJ, With Tractor or Serato you will ever had any problems. Try with any other PRO App. (sorry for my english, i´m from Argentina).

+Nicolas Segui DJ I have used them all, well except for traktor and in general I believe Rekordbox is the most stable.
I've actually seen that issue multiple times with controllers (doesn't matter the brand) and VDJ midi mapping..that's why I always use rekordbox when the dance starts, and I use VDJ for cocktail and dinner music.
Had this same issue at my last wedding with Serato and the Ns7II. Everything was delayed by a half second. I asked the photographer to take a group picture of the guest which night be enough time to restarted serato and cycle the controller on and off. Everything was fine afterwards. Makes me a little nervous because I am finding more and more issues like this such a long load times and my screen completely freezing for a 3 or 4 seconds when loading a song. It always comes to just fine but my heart freezes with it. Will be interesting in the srt soon!
Eating on the road is a must!! I travel 4+ hours for Gigs in Maryland and always have to stop & grab some grub!
I feel what he's saying bcos I am concerned as well because when vdj is not connected to my hardware it runs fine but moments in after connecting my hardware I start to get different issues with songs reading different bpm's from normal and the whole thing glitching out. I had to switch to serato in the middle of an event. Thank God for 2 laptops and hardwares for 2 usb's

Last Saturday at an event Virtual 2020 with Pioneer DDJ-1000 started pop and scratch noise during a special Waltz song. I played it off but I clearly heard it. I nearly switched to Rekordbox but did not have my backup playlist ready. Lesson learned. I come home to stress test and nothing. Same issue. Since I play videos, change the Sample Rate to 48,000 and it stopped. Works perfectly. WTH.
I'm testing vdj 2020 with the new Roland DJ707m, the sound into the front aux input cuts off when I open vdj and comes back in 3 seconds after vdj is closed. Serato doesn't affect the sound from the front aux.
The pitch sometimes automatically follows the hardware pitch position when the deck has been automatically synced. Therefore putting the deck off-sync. I can beatmatch I just use sync for convenience and speed 😂. But the pitch would snap to the physical fader position regardless of the autosync.
Otherwise vdj 20 has been very stable. I'm also testing it with ddjsr2. It is flawless with that controller. I will use the Roland in an event tomorrow.
Although I have never experienced any software or hardware issues while performing, I'm still very nervous each time I play because with computers, anything can happen regardless of the platform. I can't wait when anybody finds the cause and fix of this issue!

And my dj brother, what lesson did you take away from this? Backup music source. Bring an iPad with music and have an artillery cable. Love your videos

Sh.. happens if you DJ long enough. The teachable moment here is to have backup "ready" to drop a song at a seconds notice, or an extra mic ready etc. Never let them see you sweat to coin a phrase. You can sweat bullets all night but as long as your dance floor is cooking and people are happy, all is well as far as the customer knows.
+Rick Addy no sweating on my end. I’ve been doing this long enough to adjust accordingly. I always have a backup.
I had the same problem during an outdoor event... my left deck specifically barely responded.... I thought it was over heating, but seeing this there may be a deeper issue....

I was working a wedding last weekend using VDJ2020 with Denon MC4000 and during dancing it would freeze for a few sec stopping the audio then resume. Made me so nervous for doing first dances. I switched over to serato and completed the night with no problems.
That really sucks, well at least you didn't let it break you that day. You still knocked it out the box. Looks VDJ just isn't feeling you bro just stick to Serato or RekordBox. man
I use an sx2 and a mixtrack platinum and never had any problems with them and the 2020. I also use them on both windows and mac. I hvnt updated to Catalina cause Mojave works fine.
Did u update by chance?
I suggest u try the 2020 with ur sx2 and see if there are any similar issues to help narrow down the where the problem is stemming from.
Have the same setup... Have 2 DDJ 1000s and a 2018 MacBook Pro.
Been having the same problems on both boards since November. The music never skips, however the controller and visuals lag at times, which sometimes will mess up my mix. We’re Still trying to troubleshoot it since it is a random thing. Trying a different skin next. Please let me know if you find a solution and I’ll do the same. Opening a support ticket with virtual DJ soon.
I’ve been using the ddj1000s with virtual DJ for a year and a half now and think it started when 2020 came out
Since update I've had one isolated problem with it but only at startup. I have an error in every box in the audio mapping section. Seems to only happen if I leave my computer on without shutting it down and the restarting the entire computer(not the software) will fix it. But this problem happens during setup and is fixable in the gig I couldn't imagine it happening while playing. But like you are saying, issues after update only.
As for the VDJ Fanboy remark. You can add me to that list (CLE!) I learned on VDJ, all my hot-cues for 7 years are on VDJ, all my macro-commands, and the extra features that you normally have to pay extra for are on VDJ. Ppl on Serato aren't going to switch from what they learned on just like I won't. I'm even so specific I am still using the "old" layout still after update because I think the new is too compressed. So not switching. I'll bring my own shit over using your Serato rig bra!

I have posted this vlog in the virtual DJ official FB group hopefully they can watch and see what the problem is in my friday gigs I use a xdj rx2 with vdj2020 I have a issue with the crossfader it maybe something in the code that runs with reckordbox hardware not sure I still think it's a solid software but not sure I haven't updated to Catalina (there's a few glitches there too) I know there a few issues with that but I still feel something has changed in 2020 that talks to the hardware somewhere as a few glitches has been posted in the vdj FB group maybe you can join the group and you guys can work with each other with issues that come up
Maybe VDJ needs to work a few kinks out. No new firmware has come out for the DDJ1000 lately.
hey cleve.. had a similar prob with vdj 2020 .. using my numark ns7 ii .... the 2 tracks just keeep running awa from each other.. and the left jog wheel keep glitching.. but when i load it up on serato dj pro or traktor pro 3 it works fine.. so i belive its just some bugs iin the new update.
