Colin, the situation may seem worse but if anyone can manage to improve the situation, it is you. Therefore the situation is just an inconvenience. You've dominated every large and small broken issue over the years and it has been extremely satisfying to watch how you break down the tasks to systematically rectify the problems this boat throws at you! Parts have failed, Lagoon 450 design has failed but nothing has stopped you as you improve, strengthen and repair your beautiful Jamie 465! You got this brother! Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
Lagoons are one of the greatest boats and one of the worst in the same package . Fantastic for space and floating off a beach or chartering at a big bang for the buck . However they were cheap production boats never intended to last and not only poorly made but also not made to be fixed .
@@faircompetition1203 I will say that Colin has proven that they can be repaired and made stronger. All of the work he and the various crew members have done have increased the value of the yacht by double or more.
Cursed?..it just need periodic repairs like all boats. it was brought back to life by a knowledgeable and dedicated new owner, has crossed oceans, given hours of enjoyment to many people and is a superstar of TH-cam…I wish I was cursed.
Yeah, it’s. A boat, shit breaks. Did you see the Wynn’s episode where their liferaft disappeared and waves were crashing up through the cockpit floor? That was on a Leopard…
I’ll never forget my cousin telling me if I get a sailboat I need to prepare myself for fixing stuff all the time. I never believed her until I started watching these videos. I’m not patient enough to handle all the things going wrong.
@Mthanerco So if you were in the market for a catamaran similar in size and price to the lagoon 450, or maybe a little smaller like 40', which one would you get?
A true never ending saga. My heart goes out to you Colin and you crew. If its not one thing its another. Yet there again you are the guru when it comes to those Lagoons aren't you. Good luck and looking forward to the conclusion of THIS saga.

Thomas Crook nailed it with "Traveling around fixing your boat in amazing locations" really seems to fit - Parlay, Delos, Zatara, Nahoa, Barefoot Doctors, VA, et al. The next stage is "F#*k it, let's buy a new boat." ala, Doctors, Delos, Nahoa, Wynns, recently. Zatara seems to follow "a boat is a hole in the water you pour money into", and he does a magnificent job of anticipating/avoiding problems, but at a substantial (and necessary) cost. Colin, your skills and talents are amazing and you manage to not only survive but excel with your resourcefulness. Kudos and thanks for the journey you take us all on weekly.
It's a lot like deciding whether to have old vehicles or new ones, but on a bigger scale $$$ wise. Do you like zero payments but have to do regular maintenance, or do you want to make monthly payments and fight with the warranty people. I recently had all newer stuff, but am selling them to pay cash for older. My newest vehicle is a 1996, and once I get them caught up on the more costly repairs, I will start looking at paying cash for a ~23 ft boat or so.
I'm no engineer, but a tinkerer. Really appreciate you showing the whole process of troubleshooting, diagnosing, to eventually fixing the motor problems
What a bummer!!! I so hoped, as I know all of you did as well that the sail drives would swap out. I know though that in true Parlay fashion you 'll have her back going in no time . Cheers Guys ! Hang in there!!!

Even if this episode was a bit sad because of the issues with the sail-drive, I anyway want to thank you and your crew for a nice episode with a lot of funny moment. Curved gears are called helical gears (spiral bevel gear), and usually run much quieter, than regular straight-cut style gears, and can handle more force generally. So they're usually used things like on car transmissions/gearboxes etc. They are more expensive to make.
