    I bought it and, really, when it arrived. I really didn't use it for about a month. I installed it and it really sounds good. Not great, but notable. I then tested it on my car stereo, without Blu-tooth. I have a JVC KD-ADV5490 CD/DVD player with digital outlet, and it worked. BUT, it has one little problem. It doesn't have a volume control. So I've decided to purchase the Prozor with volume control. I'l post te results here. Thanks for the tip.

    This is how I turned Denon PMA-520 (basically Denon 600 NE which you liked and I agree - great dynamics and really fun and "analogish"sound compared to much more expensive amps) into stereo "ampilifier" with Tidal wireless and connecting TV, two dacs for 15 bucks, two optical cables (3 bucks), two rca connectors (10 bucks), two old mobile phone chargers (free), chromecast audio (20 bucks- still can get them in Poland) and here I am 21st century !

    Good video. This Prozor stuff is the business.
    I got a Prozor 192kHz Bluetooth DAC Transmitter and Receiver (PST139), shoved it into the back of my aging Cambridge Audio A4 Amp and voila...my 25 year old amp is now aptX HD Bluetooth compatible!
    I can stream my HiFi Deezer to it from my phone and connect my BT enabled Audio Technica vinyl turntable to it both at FLAC quality.
    All this for under forty quid (about 56 bucks).
    Gets 5 Cheapo Stars from me.

    When my 20 year old $600 Arcam CD player finally died, I went to Walmart and got a $40 Sony DVD player, thinking it would be what I used until I got something better. But, to my amazements, the coax digital out on the Sony, into my Integra receiver driving my KRF C40s from the 80s, and even the analog out on the Sony into my Kenwood KA89 100w/channel integrated amp, also form the 80s, driving a small pair of Cerwinn Vega bookshelf speakers, or into my TA3116 based class D amp driving my Wharfedale Diamonnd 9.1s, all sounded better than the digital and analog outputs on the Arcam CD player. Now, I'll have to get 2 of these DACs to see if they better those in the Integra receiver and Sony DVD player, and it'll only cost me $30! Thanks Randy. I've seen these, and I was curious, but I didn't really know if they were any good or not.

    Thanks Randy for this review. I received one today and hooked it up from my television via digital coax to my all analogue Cambridge integrated amp. Its a great little DAC. I found mine is a little bit rolled off and the bass a tad boosted. works nicely. I would consider this a fair but noticable upgrade from any built in DAC one would have in an inexpensive Amplifier, CD, DVD or Blu ray player. $200 will get you one that is significantly better and really can not be compaired to a Burr Brown, Sabre or Wolfson Dac. but for the $24 CDN I paid its great

    Dude! I have a Prozor 192kHz dac with bluetooth connected to an old Aiwa sff system in my bedroom. It cost around €30 and sounds amazing when I'm trying to get some... peace and quiet in my bed. Just reach for the phone and zap the music in the SD card to the Prozor. It also has coaxial and optical spdif inputs which sound great too. You can give one of these to your dad and connect it to the aux in of his 1980s Pioneer amp and woohoo, he'll be enjoying some Fleetwood Mac goodness in no time! And his favourite TV shows too. I can tell the differences in dacs on my system. Stage depth, height, linearity, texture, focus...that said, can't say the cheapest are going to sound bad. More money, marginal improvement that you can hear once you learn/train for what to look for. That said, I am not going to spend thousands on a dac and would expect best sound for under a grand. It's your job to help me save as much of that thousand for a dac.

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that DAC differences are going to be much more noticeable as the amp and speaker quality increases. On a $100 receiver with $75 speakers the differences are nearly unperceivable. $500 amp and $500 speakers is when one is going to be able to tell a difference. The purpose of this was to let people know that they can have digital music into a device with no dac at a very low investment. With that said, the Topping D50s or the SMSL M300? are both great options. Both are under the $250 range.

What I'd like to know is, that you mention here that the performance should better something from X years back. How true is that? Would this DAC sound better than say my old Hifi CD player from the 90s? And that Minidisc I mention? Are these cheap chips and cheap units getting better? Anyway I've ordered one to see how it does. What intrigued me is that the headphone out on the TV was so, so, so dreadful compared to optical -> minidisc -> headphone. If these chips are cheap why aren't they in the TVs? Or is it all about the amp?

    Hi Randy. I may be misinterpreting what you are saying. What I hear is you suggesting a signal path of TV/CD digital out to Prozor DAC and then analog RCA into older avr receiver. However, the analog signal into the avr receiver will be converted back to digital for any processing before being output again to the speakers through the avr receiver own internal DAC. So you have not bypass the older DAC in the receiver but only added an additional conversion without any benefit. Please let me know if I am misunderstanding something.

I get a few seconds of static every time I load a CD and every time the CD begins to play. If the volume happens to be high, the static is high. If the volume is muted, the static is muted. JDS Labs states that their DACs have "relay muting", which "eliminates power-up transients". I have their $100 OL DAC connected from my laptop to the same receiver and there's no static. Unfortunately, this DAC doesn't have a digital coax in, or I would use it for my Bluray player. Any suggestions on eliminating the static? Are you getting any start up static on the Prozor DAC?

      Sounds like either a power issue with the dac or something with your RCA's. What powers the dac you have noise issues with? Is it a 5 volt or something else?

I read online that others have had the same problem with DACs in general. I have a JDS Labs OL DAC, which sits between my laptop and receiver. I used the same RCA cables and stereo input on my Onkyo receiver and have zero issues. Strange; the static only occurs when the CD player loads on my Sony 4K player. When I push play. And, when the music begins. It lasts less than 2 seconds, but I imagine could be damaging to the speakers if the volume was high. CD audio running through the player's HDMI is fine, but quality seems to be much better running through the DAC.
