You are brave. I had butt length hair for years. I cut it because as I aged my hair thinned. Its a shock to lose your hair- the inevitable thinning & then the necessary chop. Nothing is worse than thin looong hair. Mine is at my chin- in my mid 70s. This womans hair looks healthy & she looks happy! Great video
That came out so good. The layers are so pretty. You don't even have to curl it, since it looks like soft curls all over due to the perfect layering. Absolutely beautiful outcome.
As a hairstylist for nearly 40 years, I was cringing....but you did all right! It helps so much to have a good pair of scissors for HAIRCUTTING. I didnt realize people were so nervous about cutting their hair....It looks really cute on you and I enjoyed the video
You’ve been a stylist for 40 years but you “didn’t REALIZE” that people are nervous about cutting their hair? Damn. I mean, I’ve known people who struggle to see beyond themselves, but that is like… the precipice of self-absorption. I wouldn’t let you touch my head if YOU paid ME! 😂 She did better than alright* by the way.
@@e.erin. my reply was meant to be a compliment, but thank you for the thorough evaluation of its flaws. I appreciate that you would n't "let" me touch your head unless "I paid YOU". The few clients who ever told me they were nervous to get their hair cut, were obviously being dramatic. That's not even the point of this video. If there's no relationship, and no trust, between client and stylist, it would be nerve-racking. What's important is that you love the way your hair looks, whether you cut it yourself or not. I will choose my words more carefully if I ever decide to comment again on TH-cam.
Makes perfect sense, considering it's got to be nearly blindfolded, second nature to you~ I wish! At nearly 60 yrs old, I'm just now feeling brave enough to mess w/my own hair~ which is so silly, it's just hair, right?! My first attempt was some highlights, which I screwed up royally, ending up w/a few big orange blotches that cost me $200 to have "fixed". I really do want to try this cut however, on my now just past shoulder length hair. Do you have any advice that would be specific to my length? I have wavy, not curly, strawberry blonde natural hair. It curls up if I tie it up to dry, or can be brushed straight as well w/out any heat. Anything appreciated, if you care to respond~ thanks, in advance~ Sammy Whitson in NV
@RV-there-Yet Hey there, I am in the same boat as you - about the same age, wavy hair, but down to my mid-back. You had mentioned that you were thinking of trying this DIY layered haircut. If you did try it, how does it look with wavy hair? The reason I'm asking is because I cut my own hair and I've always done a straight one-length cut, because I thought layers might look too choppy on wavy hair. Anyway, if you did try this particular way of cutting hair to add layers, are you happy with it? Thank you.
Oh yeah. Wow. She was a perfect candidate this cut. Her hair looked healthy, and shiny, but it was just sort of sitting there doing nothing. Now it catches light from every direction, and has all sorts of movement. Gorgeous.
I LOVE THIS EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS VIDEO! I've been on the fence about doing this cut for probably about the last 3-4 months now, and my hair is probably just about the same length as yours. After a bad car accident/torn rotator cuff, things like brushing my hair at this length have become increasingly harder to maintain and I hate it... I've been SO NERVOUS to do this because of everything you mentioned, but I'm absolutely IN LOVE with how your hair turned out, and I think you've just given me that EXTRA PUSH that I've been needing!!! I feel like I've watched SO MANY of these "tutorials" lately, but you were the very first person to give a very "real life portrayal" of doing this, when you are a complete "rookie" when it comes to cutting hair. Thank you SOOOOOO much for showing this in real time!!
this is a good video, i have extremely long hair that is dead straight and out of all the videos ive watched i never see any do this cut with this long of hair and actually take a decent amount off...the reason why everyone gets so scared as if they are taking off so much hair is they are not counting on the hair that is on your scalp that is behind the ponytail once you count in that hair and then what you have left its always a decent amount of hair....
Thank you for posting this. I've been having migraines for a week. Can't ever find a stylist open when I'm off work. I just chopped off about 8 inches. Head instantly feels better. My hair was longer than yours. Again, thank you!!
This honestly is one of the best butterfly cuts I have seen. The aspect of this cut that I usually don't like when people do it is that bottom line of the hair looks straggly, but yours doesn't, it looks fabulous and full. Incredible job, I really enjoyed watching. And William is beyond adorable. 😍
Methinks it doesn’t look scraggly because she did a blunt cut while her hair was positioned straight down in front of her face rather than at the angles that Brad instructs.
Girl I just finished cutting my hair like you did. It worked but combing and parting it was much more difficult than I expected. Like you said it was hard to get the parts without the hand mirror I used.
Wow 😮 that looks absolutely gorgeous on you! Im so happy that it turned out so well for you! I was torn between the two cuts , but after this I'm definitely doing the butterfly 🦋 cut 😁 thank you for sharing🙂
Beautiful!!!!!! I have a baby William too!!!!! When your sweet William picked the butterfly I knew your hair was going to come out absolutely gorgeous 😊
I had my husband to snip my length, it was not put up in a pony tail, i took and sectioned the crown area and cut it to the length i wanted, and the front/sides was cut the length i wanted, i love it and I've had so many complements on it, i did not soften at all so when i turn my head, the way it flows is great for me. I love my hair now. You did a great job on your, it's gorgeous!
I've done this cut a few times and loved how it's turned out every single time. My hair is mega thick and curly, so it's never as easy to cut as yours was. My advice : Buy the very best haircutting scissors you can afford, they honestly make so much difference. Your little boy chose well, your hair looks fantastic ❤
Thank you for posting this! Your hair is similar to mine and I've searched through so many videos looking for similar hair and a simple diy - nailed it! Thank you!
I looked into the difference between the wolf cut and butterfly cut. The wolf cut is very shaggy, but gives thin wisps at the ends. The butterfly cut when properly blow-dried creates 'butterfly wings' which flick away from the face like curtain 'bangs' (fringe - I'm British). A variation of the wolf cut: the triple unicorn, looks better on my curly unruly hair.
Awww. You are sooo pretty and your hair is sooo pretty and your haircut turned out amazing also. No matter how you wear your hair, you are beautiful! This was very inspiring, thank you!! 😊
My hair is down to my bum… or *WAS* It’s so hard to deal with parting it, and my arms weren’t long enough so I had to enlist the help of my husband. His job was trucker, not hair stylist. He only ever buzz cuts his own hair 🫣 He first went in and took 8 inches of the back, I was like 😳🤬 but by that point, it was too late to go back. He ended up taking about another 2-3 inches off the back while he was point cutting!! 😳We ended up having to go back in to do the front layers, as they weren’t noticeable enough. He is not my fav person right now. I’ve went from hair where everyone asks if it’s extensions, to needing extensions 😭 Oh well, it’s only hair!! I realise so many have to lose all their hair, so I can’t be a baby!! 💕 Yours looks amazing, so healthy and shiny, I wish I had got you to do mines instead of a burly trucker 😂
Had to laugh! My ironworker husband put highlights in my hair for YEARS. Even with me having long thick hair He always did a perfect job. After 2 hours of hard work temoers could get hot, but we'd get past that, he was always ready for the next hair coloring/cut. Even after a divorce, he continued to do my hair...bless his heart! When he remarried, he had 2 clients ...me & her! He was a good husband, super great friend & an irreplaceable hair wizard
Girl, it looks FABULOUS! I always wanted to grow my hair long and I did. Long hair is so pretty, but it really doesn't have much style. So I did what you did and have no regrets. Great butterfly cut 😻
It really looks good sweetie 🥰 I have really thick long curly hair and I am inspired by you. I'm tired of the really long layered cut I have. Wish me luck 🙏🤞
Oh goodness.....Dare I try???? Your looks gorgeous. My hair is long and straight. But I hate the thought of getting it cut. I REALLY want layers thou. I'd rather be mad at myself than someone else... lol. Great Job....Subscribed and saving!
Your hair and makeup is fabulous, maybe leave length for a month and see how your hair routine develops. I did this Brad Mondo cut as well, I only took 3 inches, but my hair is only a bit longer than Mannyquin, lol. 💕👍
Very brave! But I’m loving the results! I just took the plunge too with same length “before” hair, but not as brave, I just trimmed way more than usual. I love your results so much better! ❤

I was a hairdresser and on wavy or curly hair this cut would add more body and fullness just don't take too much length off at first@@user-ry1vi1jc7o
U did a great job! Your hair is beautiful!
I’ve cut mine three times using that method, and I’m never disappointed and I saved money.
Girl! That is the quietest cutting of hair I have never experienced! xx
It’s GORGEOUS!!!! You did the right thing by playing it safe. Definitely envious of your hair!!!!
This style is so beautiful on you. The color and shine of your hair is to envy. This cut added body and sass!
Fun to watch - I just did this to my hair this week . . . may want to cut more but going to live with it for awhile.
Me too! Loved my results.
