I feel like INFPs are a mix of whimsical and childishly naive, never wanting to grow old, but also possess an equally intense old soul that takes their beliefs very seriously due to their idealism. I find them very relatable as fellow INxPs but wish I had some real ones as friends.

As an infp, i think you're spot on with that. Being kind of childish, like having that sense of wonder, and then having some kind of old soul-thing going on at the same time seems very relatable.

The word I believe is childlike not childish as we have the wonder and innocence of a child while childish would indicate a level of immaturity or idiocy. As an infp I haven't really changed since I was a child in the sense I still love what I love back then now and yet I have changed much in the sense of growth and stepping out of my comfort zone...😊

As an INFP, I would have added whimsical and impish to the word list. There's a certain Alice in Wonderland feel to us, a certain desire to tweak the nose of reality and bring a little magic back into the world.

Glad you enjoyed the video! At some point along the line people started telling me they'd send videos about their type to people in their lives as a quick and broad way to get to know them. That prompted some of these series ideas such as 'the types in 2minutes' and this current one. It's nice to balance going in depth with things then stepping back and capturing the broad strokes or the essence of a type ~ Nathan

This helped me to understand myself and not feel so different. I have no desire to be normal but I wish I could be more flexible to fit in.
My perception is freakishly fine tuned. I tested high on visual perception and analytical thinking, but low in abstract thinking in an IQ test. That’s when the mbti test was recommended and talk about feeling seen and understood. I live in a lonely way because people who don’t understand things the way I do, don’t like me. That’s ok because we don’t all connect and we don’t have to.

@@StacyRenardPiano being an INFP can certainly be beautiful and I take a lot of pride in it but it definitely has it's shortcomings ahahha. As an INFP i love this, even though so many compliments flusters me a bit! I'm happy you talked about Fi empathy, so many people misunderstand that. You really understand us. I think you're the youtuber who understands INFPs the most for a non-INFP, and that's what keeps me coming back

  • @jessiz-

Such high praise and flattery, Nathan 🥺 As an INFP, I've always found my personality to be a bit paradoxical at times (though I suppose all MBTI types have contradictions), but this video captured the different angles really well. I love all the choices of words and even learned "Orphic" 💖
    - "'not all who wander are lost'... the alternative is being on a path that you find no meaning in, then being lost is by far the better place to be"
    - "when Alice went down the rabbit hole it was kind of a risky move" 🐇
Also love the distinction of Fi and Fe in terms of empathy! (In MBTI theory, it's rarer to hear of Fi being associated with empathy, but I think INFPs do have a lot of capacity for empathy. As you've said though, it's different from how Fe users operate, in being more individualistically oriented and values-focused.)
Watching this as an INFP feels a bit self-indulgent 😇

  • @solarisan_

The side of a personality type we get to see actually fluctuates. Weirdly enough, we all work on crossing the bridge between the dominant and inferior function (that becomes obvious to people who get to know us) while employing tactics that include the functions in-between. My mom used to be bossy (or good at managing things). But that was the side we got to see at home because we knew her well. Out there, into this wild, wild world, the functions that others got to witness more were her perceiving functions. And those made her forgiving, lenient, understanding, soft, careful,… I would often tell her that she needs to set certain firm lines in order to show self-respect. Cause let’s be real: the world is not necessarily a fairytale. If a person doesn’t learn self-respect and doesn’t show behavior that matches that, others aren’t gonna come and help. But she believed that. That people would care and be kind and help. Contrary to stereotypes, INFPs are experts when it comes to managing their emotions. People whose inferior function is the dominant one of an INFP are actually the ones who can find themselves in a pickle because they may struggle expressing their emotions properly.

Ahhhh...now I know why I "fell" so hard...lol. Spot on accurate, all 20 qualities. What stood out for me was the Orphic quality (charmed spell slightly closed book, yep), the slightly "oppositional" individualism (not quite iconoclastic...but close), the enigmatic, the intense (Atlantis? yep), the mysterious, the highly perceptive, the melancholic spirit, the protean mental and artistic creativity, the intrasigence, oi! but also the gentle tolerance, yes (totally confusing), the quiet, often silly humor (playfulness), a certain stoicism, the seeming moving through in an unreal dreamworld, the preference to be both a kind of eternally unseen observer and a free, untethered wanderer. I saw that ineffable state, too--incredibly so. Yes, wow, all of this. INTP "cousin" here, feeling wistful...though smiling deeply.

An INTJ here, I absolutely adore my INFP best friend. It was her who stayed with me and supported me the most during my depression episodes, she's literally an angel semt by God. Meanwhile, I helped her to become more confident with her body and more willing to deal with conflict head on.
And surprisingly I am the more optimistic in the duo, maybe because while she often connect things with human condition (which can be great), I focus more on finding patterns and their elegance.
For instance, once we hang out at a beach (seems like beaches are perfect for dark topics) and she sighed as she saw a seaweed washed up ashore with some trash entangled. She thought of pollution and how human ruin the natural beauty, while I appreciate how life always find a way as I noticed the seaweed had loads of fruits on it.

Almost all of these adjectives were used before by other people to describe me. But the one that impacted me the most is not on the list: methodic. I was in shock when I first heard it, because I always considered myself as chaotic (blame Ne). Then I realized that is exactly the ability to control the chaos that people sees and admires, like when you see a warrior that develops courage over his fears, and knows that he had to work harder than a fearless warrior.

Thank you for respecting that an Fi-dom can have empathy too! You’re very right that it’s highly focused on the individual, but NOT necessarily oneself. I definitely feel like I focus one at a time on people as opposed to the whole group at once.
And yeah, we can be intransigent when we dig out heels in!
THANK YOU too for acknowledging us as poised!! Maybe it’s more pronounced because I was raised by Te-doms but I do NOT like letting people see me losing it. I am very aware of what I am feeling most all of the time (and often why), and that awareness makes me feel like if I DO lose it, then it was with almost premeditated, because there were TONS of red flags. (It’s also what makes the ENTJ blindness to their own emotions and outright denial of their explosive and emotional nature so frustrating…like, HOW can you be that unaware of what’s going on inside you?)
Another funny one…yes, I AM a creature of habit when it comes to my daily comforts. Repeatedly change up business processes at my job? Cool, I’ll try it. I work with a ton of SJs at my job and my lack of change resistance as far as our job processes go really sticks out. Kick me out of my spot in the office that I had set up exactly to my liking for years? NOW I RIOT.

Wonderful video! That's an INFP. I think you nailed it. That's me to a T. I often felt that the description of passive wasn't on point. I go with the flow but if there's a vacuum that needs to be filled I can step in and fill it. I think INFPs can operate in different personality types if the need exists. And do quite well. But that process is draining and not something that you would want to do long-term. That's why learning about your personality type through MTBI can help you find the right fit in your life. I was part of a corporate leadership team and the company was very much into MTBI so we had a lot of training and exercises and seminars about it. I haven't spent much time in this realm since I left that environment. But you have stimulated me too reconnect. I have more time to myself these days and so I am continuing my wandering without being lost. Thanks for what you do

Great video, i was curious about how different these videos would be for the types that share fuctions in almost the same order, but you definitely show infp and enfp unique characteristic and differences in each video

Best example for me talking about taboos: I asked my intp what he thinks about necrophilia. Just wanted to know. Gosh, he felt really uncomfortable that poor man.
And again, I would love to talk to other infps but I am too shy... It gives me physical pain to only think about it 🙈

Yeah I’ve gone too far without realizing it bringing up taboo topics to people for the sake of discussion. I didn’t know that was an INFP thing until I watched this video. Very interesting!

in theory all the 4 intuitive dominant types are the most intuiive and the sensory dominant the least. Not one in specific is more intuitive than the other.

  • @kensears5099
    @kensears5099 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes..."unobtrusive"...because the unobtrusive place is where you watch from and...understand...and therefore know what the whole construct in front of you means and not only what you need to do in it but, more importantly, why. And if there is no "why" then...it is quite possibly time to disappear and show up somewhere else where there's a "why".

This is very helpful information to me as a 70 yr old INFP since it confirms many of my own perceptions of myself relative to the world around me. Thank you, for your words provide confirmation and support of "where I live" without the often cruel misjudgments of my attributes that many people around me may make (often in the hopes of "Helping me fix my ways"). I am happiest where I am and as I am.

That was quite impressive Sir. Also this was the last type on my list. Of course I kept getting typed INTP or INFJ when tested at 8yrs old via therapist. I was one strange kid.
But anyway, thank you so much. After asking my dad some things and now seeing this…I’m about 90% sure I am the one this speaks of.
It was driving me insane not being able to figure it out. After 3 months of almost daily research , I can move to the next step. Again, I really appreciate your work.

Very well put video, thank you. As an INFP the only word I disagree with is "Tolerant", as I vehemently disagree with and dislike people that are opposite of the principles and values I hold most important. I can't fathom how they could be so wrong and distance myself from such individuals instantly.
