The Pro 3 is my favorite Saucony shoe in 33 years (and I've loved dozens of Saucony's).

Absolutely luv the versatility of the Pro 3 you can run long miles in this shoe without your legs feeling beat up at the end of it.
The Pro 3 sure is a comfy shoe, but I also just ran the Boston Marathon in the Elite and my legs gelt great at the end! 👊🏽

The Pro 3 is a fantastic race day shoe and definitely a good choice! Keep in mind the Pro 4 will likely be released in a few months, so the price of the Pro 3 will likely go down!

I ran my first marathon in the pro 3 but had bad numbness in the latter stages - even with loosening the laces - I use them now more for speed work and got the adios pro 3 for my next marathon - wider toe box / mid foot

Hi Matt! Congrats on Boston! I'm going to stick with the Pro 3. I don't think the Elites would meaningfully help me at my paces. The Pro 3 did fine for me at Boston; I just got killed by the downhills at the start! Thanks for a great comparison video!
The Pro 3 are such a good shoe and for the price difference, I think a lot of people will be happy with the Pro 3s. Those initial downhill miles at Boston are no joke!

Don't have the pro 3, but the elite is def a firmer shoe than most current super shoes (I have NB elite v2 and Puma fast-r to compare against). But my goodness a bounce and energy return!
I haven’t run in either of the shoes you have, but I agree it’s firmer than most, perhaps all other supers!
I have Metaspeed Sky and a shoe called the 361 Flame which are both probably firmer in my opinion. I like both of those shoes too. I think that some of the super shoes are too soft and that appears to be the preference for many. I have loved the Pro 3's and also the New Balance RC Elite v2 for training in but for me I think that over soft maybe just lacks a little something on race day.
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics I am currently testing the new Flame shoes from 361º (the RS and the ST) and yes, they are on the firm side for racing a full marathom (IMO) but would work well for the half marathon!

Congratulations again for your Boston Marathon race in the Endorphin Elite.
I think there is no lace bite in Elite because eyelets are so close when sinched. If they designed the upper eyelet area were cut slightly more apart it would perhaps fit better for narrower feet (and possibly save some weight).
I have Pro 3 and I really like it. I recently ran a very comfortable 10-mile race in them despite still nursing a hip injury. I ran my last two marathons in Alphafly 1. I am thinking of replacing Alphafly 1 with Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro. But, I am gradually warming up to Elite but I don't think I will substantially faster in them vs Pro 3 with my current fitness. The firmness of the HG foam sounds more like Lightstrike Pro in Adios Pro 3 I believe. Maybe in the future and when/if the price has come down to more acceptable levels or I find a good discount, I might get a pair. Right now, I have more super shoes than I need. I need to do more races. 😅 And for that, at this point, I need to concentrate more on regaining my fitness before shoes can make a significant difference.
I hadn’t thought about it but now that you compare the HG to Lightstrike Pro I can say they do feel similar in some ways!

Nice recap! I got a pair of the Pro 2s, and I agree, a little too stiff for longer distances, but they help me kill it in tempo workouts. Saucony has made amazing strides in its quality at an affordable price of late. When do you expect the drop of the 4 series of Speeds/Pros/Shifts to drop?
The Pro 2s really are a solid option for speed work!

The Pro 4 and Speed 4 will probably drop in August. The Shift 4 will be a bit later in the year, probably October.
I ran a sub 8 5k in the Pro 3s today in high 80/90 degree temperatures/humidity. Something I am not able to do with any other training shoe. I was to preface that I am a middle of the pack runner. I am running Chicago again in Oct. Last year I ran in Adrenalines so having the Pro 3 will be a huge improvement regardless. Only reason I went with the Pro 3 was because the Elite sold out so fast. Now they have additional colors. Will the Elite make a significant difference for an average runner in your opinion.
Did you mean to write you ran a sub 18 or sub 28? It’s time to call Guinness if you really ran sub 8! 😁
I’m not sure the Elite will make enough of a difference for the average person. I think it comes down to what type of ride you prefer. The Pro 3 is an excellent shoe and quite a soft ride. Compared to that, the Elite is a lot firmer and feels a little more responsive because of the firmness.
@its_Matt_B_ haha sorry. 7.46 average pace. I've been doing a lot of speedwork but I am not fast. 9.30 to 10.30 is my average. But I also live in FL so the ☀️ summer is brutal. One last question, you said you got a few 100 on the pros. I expected to get 150 tops before it was time to replace. Did you race in yours after 150?
@@TheUsualSuspekt You are WAY faster than average! There will always be people quicker but there will be more who are slower. Your +/-24:08 5k is a phenomenal time, especially considering the heat! Very well done!
I have run 3 marathons in the Pro 3 and I currently have 110 miles on them. They still feel very good to me and I haven't noticed the performance decline at all. I think your expectation of getting 150 miles is ok, but I'd guess they'll last at least 200. Even if you don't race in them when they get a little wear, you can still wear them for speed work!
I'm been waiting on this one and after watching it I want the elites a lot less now and will continue running and racing in the pro 3's . I got a good mix going in now. Later on when I can maybe get a deal on the elites I may end up with a pair but for now doesn't seem like I personally can justify the $275 for a pair when they are a close in comparison to the pro 3. Excellent comparison, Matt! I haven't run in either or in any super shoe for that matter, but my new Kinvaras are the color of those Pro 3s and I'm all about prospect quartz right now. You make a great point about different runners and which each shoe might suit. There's a massive difference in running mechanics and ground contact force between 4:30/mi, 7:00/mi, and 10:00/mi pace, and comparisons too often get reduced to, "Which shoe is better?" with a one-size-fits-all winner. I'd be interested in knowing if and how your opinion changed on Monday.
Cheers, Eddie! The Elite didn’t disappoint on Monday! It felt good for the whole race and was very forgiving to my sloppy stride late in a race!
I had thought they may feel a little firm for my preference, but that wasn’t the case.
@@its_Matt_B_ Good to hear 👍 I am a similar pace to you and looking for low 3 hour+ goal pace. Definitely running Copenhagen 🇩🇰 in these in 3 weeks unless there's a deluge of rain on race day and even then I may still go with them. Totally agree that they are likely to be better on my legs once my form breaks down over the last few miles (based on a 22.2 mile LR in them a couple of weeks ago at the end of a tough training week that had an average pace quicker than my current PB but included WU and CD miles). I find that the slightly firmer foam keeps giving back where the Pro 3 reaches close to 20 miles and I struggle in it and find that it's too soft once my form starts to break down.
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics Good luck running CPH! I would still wear them if it's wet/raining. I found they performed very well when wet (I didn't notice any difference).
So, you had a faster-than-PB training run that included WU and CD? It sounds like you're going to get a fairly massive PB next month!! Good luck!
@@its_Matt_B_ Fingers crossed 🤞 My plan is to err on the side of caution and hopefully do enough to ensure that I secure GFA Boston 2024 qualification. We all know how Marathons can chew you up and spit you out if we're not careful. I have also talked about being cautious before and then that sensibility goes out of the window on race day 😂 I am confident heading into this one but anything can happen on race day. The final 5k prior to my CD of that training run was quick (included a 6:45 and 6:43 mile miles 19 and 20).

Hey Matt, with the miles you have on the pro 3 do u feel it’s lost much pop, would u still get as much out of it if u were to take it to a marathon now?
I’ve heard people say their Pro 3s lose a little something after a while but so far, with 109 miles, they still feel the same as they’ve always had to me.
The Pro 3 is my best shoe for marathons. (age 72)
I’ve run several marathons in them and can see why; they’re a good blend of softness and responsiveness!

How do you compare the front rocker between the 361 Flame and the Elite?

I run one run in the Pro 3. I have 10 shoes in the rotation so it takes time to get to it.. But I found the Pro 3 rocker and midsole much better than the Speed 3. Did today a 9K run with 400m gain in altitude and I am just bored to death with the Speed 3. Its mushy and I much prefer the energy return and rocker in the Pro 3 but 361 Flame feels faster. However I don't know how my legs will feel after a 20k run in the 361 Flame? I did do to test it a 10K easy run and it was excellent and VERY fast 6K run (VO2 max) and it was excellent as well.. Did a run in the Alphafly V1 and my Achilles Tendon was screaming.. Conclusion? Go eat peanuts 😂
When I’m doubt, eat peanuts. I’m with you on the Flame. They wouldn’t be my choice for a marathon, but they feel snappy enough where I’d consider them for a half marathon.
@@its_Matt_B_ I feel very fast in the Flame and got to see 300 W on the watch which is very high but analysis of the data gives good numbers but a bit below the Vaporfly V2. It surprised me because I felt much faster in 361 Flame.. Anyway.. I really enjoy running in the 361 Flame. By the way.. The Cyprus Marathon record (a couple of months ago) was 2:20 run in the 361 Flame..
I have ran 16+ mile training runs in the 361 Flame (the firmest of all my Carbon plated shoes). I have never been tempted to race a Marathon in them. I don't think that I have ever raced any distance in them but that's more to do with just having a preference for other shoes to race in at the time. I have had the Flame for years and still run in it now and again. I like the shoe and it is really durable.
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics I think firmest then any of my shoes.. I love the feeling and how the firm midsole works with the front rocker. Footlock is amazing for me.
I agree. Both are great shoes but I am not an elite (sub 3h marathon runner) and not even ran a marathon distance in my life, so I stay away from both of these expensive footwear. My endorphin speeds are going just fine for me. 😊…..

Surprisingly, the Elites are holding up very well! They have a lot of marathons left in them!
I have just over 500k in the pro 3. I don't see enough to convince me to "upgrade"😊
The Elite are not necessarily an upgrade if you love how the Pro 3 ride! The ride is just too different!

@@nehallavey-khan7209 My thoughts remain the same. The marathon was just a needed confirmation of how good the Elites are. They felt good and remained responsive the whole way. They are firmer than the Pro 3s but not too firm. After 3 hours in them they felt just as good as when I put them on.
