  • John Bianchi first noticed a small shaking in his left hand in his 20s, but it was always manageable. As he approached his 50s, that changed. He couldn't see as sharply and his hands became less steady. After a lengthy diagnosis search, he was definitively told, "Parkinson's." The diagnosis led him to rethink how he treated his body, which led him to running. He began to run in July of 2023. The first race he ever ran was the Philadelphia Marathon in November 2023.
John picked up running as a way to balance his body. The benign tremulous Parkinson's only affects the left side of his body, and in his words, "Running provides me a stasis." His new hobby led him to the 2024 RBC Brooklyn Half, not only to continue his journey as a runner, but also because of the personal meaning the Borough of Kings holds for him. When John was a child, his grandparents took him to Coney Island and it serves as one of his earliest and fondest memories. In memory of his grandmother, Rose Iaconis, who also suffered from Parkinson's, John made his journey to the start of the 2024 RBC Brooklyn Half.
