First time watching; "mweh still not understand it". Second time wathcing; "Wait this seems logic". Thirth time watching; "OMG I UNDERSTAND IT I AM THE CHEMISTRY KING".
Thank you so much Sal, you have such an amazing gift to just make what you say stick. Everything is so clear when you describe it to us in your videos. You have carried me through all three semesters of calculus, differential equations, Electomagnetism, and now showing me the ways of o chem. Thank you so much again Sal, don't stop doing what you are doing, you are amazing!
3 years of community college chemistry classes and I still had no idea how hybridized orbitals worked. 16 minutes of your video cleared that up completely. We need more instructors, no wait, more people like you in the world. You are an amazing person and I hope you can continue doing what you do.
I 've been "learning" Chemistry since my first year in highschool (my teacher back than was more than amazing), I am now on my third year of studies at the univercity and only now i can say I 've finally FULLY understood what's going on with hybridization !! Congratz !!
You have helped me SO much in nearly every subject I've taken for years now, but watching this video has helped me more than any other video. I have been so lost in my chemistry class that I wanted to cry during lecture today, but after watching this I get it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I have been an ochem tutor for a year and could never fully grasp the concept of orbital hybridization and my professors couldn't explain it well to me either. THIS 16 MIN VIDEO CLEARED UP NEARLY A YEAR OF CHEMISTRY CONFUSION... THANK YOU!!!!
Came over here from the official website because I don't have the points to comment yet, but oh my goodness, THANK YOU. Four and a half years of undergraduate studies, a full semester of MCAT review, and I still never understood hybridization and struggled painfully through organic chem. And then around 8 minutes in, I feel like I've had an epiphany. I literally cannot thank you enough.
i cannot explain to you how clear this guy is, i could read a million textbooks, and his explanation would still be clearer. Thumbs up for a brilliant lesson. Thank you!
4 words :YOU ARE SIMPLY AWESOME! i was so sick of sitting in class like a dumb dumb for hours together...16 mins of ur vid and i actually understand!! thank you so so so so so much!!!!
I have to say the guy who does this video (as he's done many) I love how he repeats what he's writing several times as he writes it out. I have seen a few videos where the person doesn't say a word for like 12 seconds as they write it out and I keep thinking my headphones are dead or my connection was lost but nope... They just haven't said anything. Anyway as I am writing out tests I hear this guys voice in my head saying "this is a 4 bromo.. 4 ... bromo.. 4 bromo this is a 4 bromo hept remember this has 7 has 7 so it's hept..." Then I know I can't go wrong. It's like having this in my test with me. love it!
wow 5 books didn't explain it as well as this video did. great job, you're a life saver!!! my exams are in may 2012 so I HOPE HOPE HOPE you don't delete this video before then! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I had read my textbook before watching your videos and it seemed like Chinese actually. After watching your videos i returned to my textbook and read it again. Everything was just fine. Thank you again
When are people learning this? I'm in grade 11 Chemistry and I'm learning this right now but all the comments I see on here are university students lol.
I know this is an old comment but it depends on the level. I never took ap chem in high school only regular so i didn't learn this. But my freshman year at veterinary school I had to learn this.
amazing!!! thank you so much, your explanations are so easy to understand because you show the visualizations rather than just write a load of letters and numbers.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I have been SO confused on this topic, this is the most helpful video in explaining things and explaining all the little diagrams that my Chem Professor displayed during lecture
Thanks for the explaining. I'm really struggling with Chemistry, I'm doing it in uni (non-elective) and to get my degree I need a basic understanding on Chemistry. However I haven't been to school in awhile, and I think some important bits are left out in the uni classes, like exactly WHAT is an SP3 orbatal. I'm glad your video explained it. :) Makes things easier!
Organic chemistry just now is enough to drive one mad. It gives me the impression of a primeval forest full of the most remarkable things, a monstrous and boundless thicket, with no way of escape, into which one may well dread to enter. - Friedrich Wöhler
It's unfortunate that my college did not have good internet connection & that this video wasn't uploaded back during my A level days.. I really had a tough time visualizing those imaginary planes
thank you very much! I'm a non native english speaker yet it was quite easy to understand! you surely do know how to explain. i am surprised. having a test tomorrow^^
very similar to what I am wakened this quantum movements in dream realized by my father, having passed away on 2013, March 12, I visualize this from a bird view to see and understand how god maintains space we lived now, so beautiful
Thank you very much for creating and establishing a educational academy like this.PIONEERS AND experienced minds are in this kahana academy. You taught me which my teacher didn't.thanks once again and keep this good work its useful for students like me.
@ChronicFatigueSyn Actually, whenever an atom bonds, what we take into account is the number of VALENCE electrons. Valence electrons are found in the atom's outermost shell in their electron configuration. If you pay attention to the video, you see that in its configuration C has 4 electrons, 1s^2,2s^2,2p^2. You can also identify those by looking at the periodic table and look at the groups. C is listed in 4A, which is why it's got 4 valence electrons to share in bonding.
Why am i paying thousands of dollars to sit at lecture, early in the damn morning, when i'm learning everything from him? Thanks Khan. I will apply everything i learned from you on tomorrows exam =D
You just clarified in 16 minutes what I haven't understood in the past 6 weeks
Git gud
This is the magic of good teaching
Kahn, you rock. Sincerely, all medical students.
+Russell Brown engineers also lol
its "Khan" not Kahn. If you want to compliment someone at least spell his name right
uh dude chill, the man made a sincere mistake,
It's leviOsa not leviosA
Russell Brown AGREED
i love how u can make the textbook look like some guy who is trying to act smart by making simple things complicated
First time watching; "mweh still not understand it".
Second time wathcing; "Wait this seems logic".
Thirth time watching; "OMG I UNDERSTAND IT I AM THE CHEMISTRY KING".

ALL IN FAVOR!!
Joel Rurisa Please !!
yes please, he almost solved my entire life.
I agree. He should get a Nobel prize. He has more impact on students than any other teachers in the world!!!
Bro. you the real MVP
You continue to aid me in understanding my lecture notes, thank you

I wish you would get a portion of my tuition money. Keep on doing what you do!
u can donate to khan academy.org !

2 hours of biochem lecture didn't explain this but 16 minutes of Khan's video did. God bless you man
Lecture is too long
Thanks for explaining this! I was so confused about this 2sp3 hybrids, but you made it clear. You're a life saver!
Your voice.. Your way of teaching.. The way you look. You are the best teacher i have seen in my 23 years of life. Marry me Khan
The way you look?
Daidi Fantaye LOL

I think I should just tune out my crazy chemistry teacher and just look at this instead.
Should have done this earlier
i cannot explain to you how clear this guy is, i could read a million textbooks, and his explanation would still be clearer. Thumbs up for a brilliant lesson. Thank you!
Your explanations are still the most awesome , simple and understandable ones l have ever tried.
4 words :YOU ARE SIMPLY AWESOME! i was so sick of sitting in class like a dumb dumb for hours together...16 mins of ur vid and i actually understand!! thank you so so so so so much!!!!
I love Kahn like I love cake. Thanks teacher! You are my hero for now!

10/10 teaching skills. I only wish teachers around the world could teach like this because teaching itself is a skill which many fail to understand.
WOW taught me in 15 minutes what my prof couldn't in 3 weeks. God bless you man, if I am ever rich I won't forget you
I had read my textbook before watching your videos and it seemed like Chinese actually. After watching your videos i returned to my textbook and read it again. Everything was just fine. Thank you again
When are people learning this? I'm in grade 11 Chemistry and I'm learning this right now but all the comments I see on here are university students lol.
Clumpy true 😂😂😂
Its the same thing in different iterations. Like orgo is a lot different than 11th grade chem lol.
Clumpy which country do you live in? I am also in grade 11 and learning hybridization
I know this is an old comment but it depends on the level. I never took ap chem in high school only regular so i didn't learn this. But my freshman year at veterinary school I had to learn this.
calm down genius, do you want an award?
Khan deserves some kind of award
Definitely yes!
thank u sir, u r one of the few teachers that knows how important intuition and visualization is in order to truly grasp the concepts... i salute u
Within 2 mins and I've already absorbed content that my lecturer didn't even mention. Top job!!!
Thank you so much, it almost feels like books and professors just kind of expect you to know this stuff. You made it so much clearer
Thank you so much Khan Academy, I never was able to understand hybridization in my 1 hr lecture in a week, but this helped tremendously. :)
After I finish medical school I will pay you back. You're the only reason I can actually get in to medical school.
This guy is so freaking smart and knows so much about so many different topics
amazing!!! thank you so much, your explanations are so easy to understand because you show the visualizations rather than just write a load of letters and numbers.
i cant believe this man's lessons are free! (: thank u so much for ur help, Sal!
I needed 3 years of studying physics + this video to understand sp3 Orbitals :-D
Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I have been SO confused on this topic, this is the most helpful video in explaining things and explaining all the little diagrams that my Chem Professor displayed during lecture
much better than my professor... thank you

This is the best tutorial on this material. Way better than my professor. High Five for higher learning
Can't believe it! I just had this subject this morning than when i come home and browse khan's new videos and here we go. a brand new Review xD
I watch a lot of your videos from maths to chemistry. I study chemistry in Mexico and you are awesome
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH Khan!!! You saved my day for presentation about those hybridized orbitals !!!!!! Your explanation is just AWESOME!
You are the best. No matter how you don't know the subject, this will make you understand. Khan Academy is the best. BIG THANKS.
WOW! I finally understand this topic! Thanks to your 3-D graphs and drawings! ❤😊
It's unfortunate that my college did not have good internet connection & that this video wasn't uploaded back during my A level days.. I really had a tough time visualizing those imaginary planes
this helped much more than other hybridization vids. Thank you.
Finally! After watching 5-6 videos on TH-cam, I finally understand. Every other video just assumed that we know the concept of hybridization 😪
I M SO GRATEFUL THAT I HAVE FOUND OUT THIS CHANNEL!!!U SAVE MY GCE!THANK YOU!
thank you so much!!!!!!! for the first time in 5 years, i finally understand how the structure forms
This is amazing, we did this in class with balloons, and that wasn't nearly as clear as this, thanks Sal.
I did not expect to learn so much. It was very eye opening.
Great! This was reeeally helpful! I'm German, too, but your English is very clear. Thanks, hope this helps in my exam :)
super video, self studying for chemistry sat, this helped a lot!
sal...sir u made everything clear thankyou massive respect!!!!
Omg, thank you soooooo much khanacademy!! Relieved that despite my lack of concentration in my first Stage I chem lecture I'm able to catchup :DD
thank you very much! I'm a non native english speaker yet it was quite easy to understand! you surely do know how to explain. i am surprised. having a test tomorrow^^
With Sal all things are possible!
I have no words to admire you ........... just you are great!!!

Thanks a lot! I struggling learning about this material from the book, and when I see this, everything seems to come into its place
Thank god for you. my Chemistry prof should watch this before lecture.
thank you so much! using bright colours and explaining and drawing in 3 really help me understand a lot better! Kudos to you!
I watched about 8 videos before this and left confused. I finally understand, thank you khan academy..theres hope for me passing my exam after all!
Your videos are really awesome and the ones to spend time on instead of watching the cats even the six grader can understand calculus with you.
Today I came to know it is interesting before I never wised to look at. Thanks a lot
Thank you very helpful for my Organic Chem class!
very similar to what I am wakened this quantum movements in dream realized by my father, having passed away on 2013, March 12, I visualize this from a bird view to see and understand how god maintains space we lived now, so beautiful
I totally understood by watching it once. You are a great professor. Definitely subscribe to his channel.
Long video but very helpful! You rock!
Slowly but surely I’m getting it
My life makes sense now.
You are so good at what you do!! Thanks a tonnes. And good luck!!

i love his voice!
Heather Cheplick it's so comforting as you go through school :D
Lmfao veryy!
Give this man a Noble Prize Please!!!
I may have commented this on too many of your videos... but I love you.
I can understand every single concept from khan academy videos n now I Think like..."formulas in chemistry could be that easy? "
Is this guy a genius or something? He knows literally everything.
Caleb W He did go to Harvard and MIT, if that matters.
Why am i paying thousands of dollars to sit at lecture, early in the damn morning, when i'm learning everything from him?
Thanks Khan. I will apply everything i learned from you on tomorrows exam =D
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! You made things so clear!!!!!!
Wonderful. Keep it up! Cleared up a lot for me!
really really thanks now i can understand hybrid orbital better
