    Love your price/budget mentality. I don’t mind a used car that runs, a studio to live in, cheap & great food to eat. I guess you can say I’m a minimalist. Less is better to enjoy life to the fullest. 😊

    86,000 to buy or rent at 400pm. As I am an old codger I will rent as it would take me 18 years paying 400pm before I reach the price of 86,000 and that is paying cash. With a mortgage and its associated interest payments it would be more like 150,000 so add another 13 years to the 18 years = 31 years.

      @@SideTripLife EV battery replacement makes the savings moot. Crazy prices for new batteries. There will be lots of very upset EV drivers in the near future.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      @J Williams thanks for the comment J, to which many may agree (but mainly due to mass misinformation campaigns via echo chamber 'news'/opinion gathering, ie Twitter, FB, 'Pragar U' lol;)
      1st, FOR the record, I do NOT agree with Govt's mandating we MUST switch to EVs by xx date etc, or mandating we MUST switch period (also we STILL need oil and will for some time to come). Also, I absolutely LOVE esp classic petrol cars.
      Regarding your points about EV batteries, that used to be true with 1st gen EVs years ago (ie: Nissan Leaf 1st generation). However, new tech EV batteries can now easily last beyond 200,000 miles or 15-20 years (Consumer Reports study) and currently degrade avg 2.3% per year (used and maintained well, better tech like Tesla lost just 12% after 200,000 miles). So new tech batteries can generally last the lifetime of an EV car or beyond. Tesla battery report: insideevs.com/news/664106/tesla-battery-capacity-degradation-average-2022/
      Currently, battery replacement is indeed costly (for the few that actually need to within their lifetime, est 1.5% of all EVs & mostly the old 1st generation ones). But even those costs have dropped from $1300 per kWh just a few years ago to just $130 per kWh now. That cost will continue to drop and the lifespan will continue to improve as will the technology. After a battery is past its optimum (likely 500,000 miles in near future) it can be used for home or commercial building solar storage etc, then used in forklifts etc etc and finally 90% recycled.
      Add to this electric cars cost less than half to 'fuel' + avg 20 moving drivetrain parts to maintain vs 2000+ on a petrol motor, plus, living in Bangkok choking on fumes and noise... heck, it's just starting to make more sense and well, cents.
      My bigger fear vs battery degradation, is those still stuck in an echo-chamber of old disinformation are unwittingly assisting us being left behind globally (along with the high paying jobs & assoc industries that come from the new tech). Meanwhile, the likes of China are literally charging ahead and probably laughing at us squabbling over disinformation (on both sides) squandering our time and opportunities, making it even easier for them to blow right by us. Sad... STL

    I love this channel. Question; is Thailand....getting hotter ? Do power failures happen like in Puerto Rico or other ...places ? In other words , if you didn't have air con....you would be toast ? I know, night time is the right time; what's the temp. in Farenheit at nite near the ocean...would you sleep with your windows open and get the breeze ?

    Just to clarify. 60k bhat is $1700 usd, today’s conversion. You can buy that 48 sq.ft condo for this price? Is that what I’m seeing?

    Be nice if you got a rug or something for the dashboard to stop the annoying reflection. A suggestion from a fellow west coast Canuck.

    This is definitely a high season video cause I was there last week (June 14) and it was dead and most places were shuttered. It was better a bit further north and the options were better too as an expat

      @SideTripLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope Kev, was there a week or so ahead of you (but on a Saturday thus more folks about, Long lay market also open). But as stated in the vid, weekdays almost got the place to yourself, esp in these dog days of low season. Btw, here's my vid from just a bit further North: th-cam.com/video/9wLQz5GvhxQ/w-d-xo.html

    As always great videos. I really want to move to Thailand. It is in my 10 yr plan!
    Also wanted to say the sq footage was off in this one. No way the first one was 67 sq meters. And no way the 3rd kne was 100 sq meters. They must be including those balcony (which you're not supposed to do) and even then I don't think it's right. Either way still great places at great value though!!

    is rent is only $400 bux i think it's a smarter choice to just rent than buy since it would take almost 18 years to cover that cost. and you're not tied down to that place and these days it's quite hard to make a return on renting out thai condos

    Is it safe to swin in the sea there? ( jellys etc)

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jelly season is Aug/Oct. Main jellies in Hua Hin & Sam Roi Yot area are the avg run o the mill kind. I made the following vid on Koh Phangan and added this visual and info on deadly (but extremely rare) BOX jellies so people can identify them: th-cam.com/video/pZogNlgr8o4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hKhVv7q3Ri8R4Uuj&t=953
      The one's you see around here are the bigger and tamer variety, I still go in the sea and just avoid em.
