  • In this first episode of the Camry Series, I teach Kamilla how to change her own oil and spark plugs. There were a few surprises that popped up along the way, but she had a great time learning how to better care for her car. This is a very lighthearted video full of information and fun. Please stay tuned for more on the Camry and Kamilla as was have many more episodes to come. Don't forget to Like, Share, and Subscribe! Thanks!

      100% agree. Hard to find a car with the quality and ongoing reliability as these cars have. Especially for the price.

    How long should my car go before I change the oil, please?

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any time! I believe the recommended interval is every 3k miles. If yours came with an owners manual it should have the factory recommendation there for oil change intervals. Best of luck and enjoy your Camry!

    Think you'll ever do a cabin ceiling liner replacement video?

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! I wouldn’t rule it out. Kamilla has been suggesting some things she would like to do coming up. Also, there are some tasks that need to be completed. Since it’s her car I leave it up to her, but if that’s something she would like to do then, yes, we would do it. Thanks for the question.

      @@TheNonnell For sure, I have a neglected 1998 Camry and these videos are super helpful. Though, the quality of the paint on yours is much better, I have a lot of small rust spots I need to fix as well as clear coat peeling off in various places. Do you have videos for those by any chance?

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Renulph Unfortunately, I don't have any significant paint repair videos. I would recommend Chrisfix as he did a video that may help. I guess it depends on how much rust/bad paint there is, but here is a link to his video. th-cam.com/video/vUdSUDObwVc/w-d-xo.html
      I hope that helps and Kamilla and I are working on more Camry content, hopefully coming out soon.

    I have around 327K on a 97 I'm driving. It's amazing how many parts have never needed replacing, but at this mileage it's definitely struggling.
    Like a lot of cars, it's tempting to get cheaper aftermarket parts, but my biggest regrets have usually been from doing that. OEM parts sometimes last 5x longer but might cost 2x as much. I also went with NGK Iridium plugs because they are excellent, and the OEM twin electrode type can be overpriced. I also had a major issue with the EGR system. The solenoid under the intake fails commonly, and the modulator valve, and both had for me, but the port in the throttle body was so clogged I had to cut the tube and drill the crud out, then painstakingly work a wire through to break through to the TB port. But it finally worked, got that engine light off. I think the bad modulator let exhaust come through the ports and block them up, so fixing and cleaning all that out in a timely way might prevent it getting worse. It shouldn't affect driving much, but it's nice to have the light off. Getting about 31-32 mpg highway.
    2 timing belts and overdue for a 3rd. Oil pump gasket failed and was replaced once. This car has also been run low on oil, oil pressure light coming on, and still it keeps on going.

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whoa! 327K! That's awesome. I appreciate the information about what you were experiencing. We're hoping to change out the EGR components here in the next month or two. If I get the chance I'll be sure to check out those intricate places you said to clean. Thanks again!

    Look in parts store for Haydens repair manuals! I had a 97 & it had 267,000 miles & STILL didnt burn oil. Rusted out.😞 changed mine every 3,000 miles or 6mos.

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! It's funny you say that, because that's what I ordered last month. Thanks for the suggestion. Kamilla has about 148K on he Camry right now. She wants to get over 300K eventually. I'm hoping Kamilla gets some free time soon as we're planning to do some more work on the Camry. As of now it's still running and looking great. Thanks again for the comment.

      @@TheNonnell mine was the same color! I loved that car! NE area is tough on body/undercarriage.. 21yrs on a car, I'm blessed. I subscribed. She's a great gal! I got alot of parts at the junk yard. 😉 I bought a new car 2yrs ago but we all cant afford one, even me. So its a nice site to see ppl keepn their cars on the road. Thanks for takn the time. Looking forward to more of u two.

      @TheNonnell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome and thanks for the Sub. Hate that it rusted on you. You’re right, the NE is hard on vehicles. She’s fortunate in that the Camry has always been a southern car. She’s actually coming over today and we’re going to talk about what maintenance items to start next. It is amazing how with basic maintenance these cars can last so long. I’m looking forward to seeing this car around for many more years.

    You should do apple carplay infotainment system and heated seats

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree! I'm sure she would love the upgrade and ease of use. Everything else she owns is Apple so it would only make sense to transition her car into that mindset. I'll let her know you recommended it and see what she says. If that's something she wants to do then we'll definitely make a video on the installation. Thanks!

    o
    spark plug that had oil cyl 1 looked like newer spark plug

    • @TheNonnell
      @TheNonnell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. It did seem cleaner that's for sure. I guess if the car previously had a misfire then potentially they could have replaced only one spark plug to fix it. Although, I would find that to be odd, but that doesn't mean someone wouldn't take a shortcut. Unfortunately, we don't have any prior records to validate what has or has not been repaired. Thanks for the suggestion!

      Is 3.6liters oil enough when you replace filter? Is it from the toyota manual?
