  • U.S. Army Basic Combat Training | U.S. Army Boot Camp
    United States Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) is the recruit training program of the United States Army, for service in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. Basic Training is designed to be highly intense and challenging. The challenge comes as much from the difficulty of physical training as it does from the psychological adjustment to an unfamiliar way of life.
    Drill sergeants are the instructors responsible for most of the recruit training that takes place during Basic Combat Training. They accompany recruits throughout the entire training process, instructing and correcting actions in everything from firing weapons to the correct way to address a superior, and are also largely responsible for the safety of recruits.

    My Dad was a Drill Sergeant. He taught me so many things. Discipline, Courtesy. How to be observant. Professionalism. How to walk and speak with confidence. Appearance- how to spit shine my boots which I still do today. The importance of cleaning my room and making my bed. The understanding that perfection IS possible. Love you Dad- see you on the other side

      Easier said than done but don't get overwhelmed if you smile and you have 3 DS screaming at you. All you have to remember is every minute and step you take is a minute and step closer to graduating and getting the hell out of basic. It won't last forever but it'll feel like it does.

      Don’t worry about it. You’ll get smoked no matter what. Just know that every time they’re smoking you, you’re getting stronger and becoming a better soldier
      My recruiter told me he had that same problem. He said the drill sergeants nicknames him “smilie” and smoked him every time he smiled but he couldn’t help it. By the end of basic training he had the best PT score out anyone in his company
      That’s the mindset you gotta have. A mind set of not quitting, of knowing NBC everything you do is making to better, and knowing that one day this will end and you just got to get to that point

    Believe it or not Drill Sergeants do laugh. In 72 I was 17 when I enlisted. While still at Reception we were at rest waiting outside to get IDs. A Drill Sergeant came walking by and yelled out who here is 17. Like a dumb ass I raised my hand. He came up to me and yelled WHY ARE YOU NOT HOME WITH YOUR MOMMA. I YELLED RIGHT BACK AT HIM AND SAID I HAVE BEEN WONDERING THE SAME GOD DAMNED THING MYSELF DRILL SERGEANT. He looked at me laughing 😂 and just walked away. I miss those Drill sergeants they taught me a lot about life Thanks for your service.

      I read a similar comment on another video for Marines. This guy from Minnesota told his DI he didn't know how to swim, and the DI asked him "You come from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and you don't know how to swim?!?" Guy replied back, "Sir, most of the time they were frozen, Sir!". He said the DI had to turn around so the recruits wouldn't see him laughing.

From some of the comments that I have read, many sound like a bunch of sissies, cowards and among other things that I would like to say about your. Basic training was longer and like night and day compare to now. Over the years I have returned to see what the training is like for the new recruits and I don't feel that they in the long run are being prepared properly for survival in a war situation. I survived my tours in Vietnam and my military career because of the basic training and other advance training. So many don't realize how fortunate they are to be living in the United State of America.

    • @SadBaggieBoi
      @SadBaggieBoi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don’t be afraid. This video is Benning and that’s home of infantry. When you arrive to your bct you’re gonna learn that the worst part is reception. Reception for me in Sill had me second guessing, but when I made it to my battery it was a breeze. Just listen and execute.
      Make sure you learn The Army Song and Soldiers Creed, you’re still gonna get smoked because other people won’t know it, but that’s basic for you. Also, being physically fit will help you a lot. It’s true that you’ll come out stronger either way, but it helps out a lot. Also, for the love of god, do not be afraid of going to sick call. Seriously. If you are injured just go. I got a grade 4 stress fracture at the start of basic and I still graduated on time. Not going will make your injuries worse and you’ll end up being a recycle or you make it to AIT and won’t be able to do anything.
      My AIT was 6 months long and we had people who couldn’t do PT almost the entirety of that because they didn’t go to sick call in bct and were so messed up.

Needless to say that did NOT help my fear of heights.

    I went through Fort Jackson in 1974. My first day in the training area after I arrived from the reception center was one of the worst days I had. I was 17 and scared shitless with all those drill sergeants screaming in my face. We were supposed to execute a left face. I started right then went left. The Drill Sergeant dumped the contents of my gym bag on the ground and pulled my gym bag over my head, zipped it up around my neck but not before cracking open an ammonia capsule. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t see, I was gasping for air. He was snickering but I never confused my right with my left again.

    My late husband served in the U S Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam era (cell site in South Korea). He did his basic training at Fort Benning (around 1968 I think). He told me that you did not call the drill sergeants “sir”; apparently “sir” is only for commissioned officers. “DON’T YOU CALL ME SIR! I WORK FOR MY LIVING!!” is what he said a “sir” would get you. The proper term was apparently “yes, Drill Sergeant” or “no, Drill Sergeant”. Did anyone else here experience this?
