You know what I could tell about the Wicked movie? That it was actually gonna be a MUSICAL. Looking at you, Mean Girls trailer!!! Take notes! Also Adam, way to "Yes, eh" that first trailer. LOL
It was Gandalf in Rings of Power! He said the line, "when in doubt, always follow your nose." That's what he says thousands of years later to Frodo in the mines of Moria! It's Gandalf.
Megalopolis is an original idea from Francis Ford Coppola he's been working on since the 80s. It took him 40 years to finally get it made but I'm soon excited to see it.
My mind is absolutely blown that Francis Ford Coppola is still alive. That whole trailer, I was thinking, "Oh so his estate finally found someone to direct this movie." He was always a historical figure to me like Orson Welles or Henry Ford.
Sorry Adam, I know you didn't want people to skip, but after that lack of response to the Wicked trailer, I couldn't bear myself to continue. Still love watching you both though!
I would *love* to see you guys react to the original Orphan Black. With Adam having seen it, and Jay fresh, it would be so fun! Such a good series! I'm not sure how I feel about the trailer for the sequel, but I'll definitely be giving it a shot.
Jay's reaction to Wicked is why I love this channel. I felt kinda like Adam about Wicked, but not to the same degree. I loved The Wizard of Oz but I felt it was all I needed. Watching the joy bloom on Jay's face as the trailer progressed now has me excited to watch Wicked in November, and I didn't see that coming. So, thank you Jay
From what I understand Megalopolis is basically the American take on the German movie Metropolis. I'm understanding that it's meant to be a deconstruction and analysis of an alternate history US city that presents itself as a utopia which loops back around to being a dystopia. The original Metropolis was impressionistic, grand and almost mythical in its imagery and presentation, but this ones seems to be more oppressive, capitalist and modern overall
Or both depending on how it effects each person individually. Im always more intrigued when a film from a visionary director is divisive since it means hes taking BIG swings
Rings of Power suffered last time being released at the same time as House of the Dragon, it's a totally different kind of fantasy show. This time around, they're releasing it after HotD.
You guys always tell us not to skip, but eventually you'll realise that we're not watching for the trailers, we're watching for our two favourite dudes, and we want to watch the whole thing.
Calling my shot now: It's Saruman. Saruman was the first of the Wizards to arrive, and was a legendary hero throughout all of this age. All other Wizards, including Gandalf, the last to arrive, would have learned everything they knew from him. That is why his betrayal during The Lord Of The Rings is such a horrifying surprise. He has been their mentor and ally for Millennia. I think them using such clear Gandalf imagery as such a deliberate signal WITHOUT them giving us any of his names means it has to be a misdirect. Also, the first line of the show is "Nothing is evil in the beginning". It fits the central theme. And the Strangers musical theme has a subtle current of hammers striking metal running through it. If I was a brilliant composer like Bear McCreary that's the kind of auditory clue I'd bury within my music for people to find later.
@@Grandtheatrix maybe, but I feel like that would be a pretty substantial/weird misdirect to imply he’s Gandalf in a season finale only to have it be Saruman revealed later
@@Grandtheatrix People take a lot of what is written in Tolkien's world as factual to its universe. And a lot of it isn't. The Silmarillion is a mythology and thus everything in it is suspect. Any thing referenced in song or prose, is passed down stories, meaning they are all suspect. The timeline presented in Lord of the Rings is not factual. Thus it can't be a God's eye telling of events. And since the timeline tells of events that none of the principles witnessed, and with events long after they had left middle Earth, shows that the time line is just that a historical record, and historical records aren't factual. I also find it so surprising for anyone to complain about an adaption of Tolkien's work and describing it has slow, or a slog (pacing wise). Tolkien's material isn't fast paced and he isn't focused on the depiction of action. Action occurs but it's rarely the meat and potatoes of the his story telling. For the power of the rings trailer. The character who most believe is Gandalf says one of Gandalf’s infamous lines, “just follow your nose” in the last episode. No one else says that but him. Adam, does that count? Why not if no?
Jay made a good point about the Twisters movie. I watch a lot of storm chasers and it's been a bad year for that. They are busy and there are so many towns that have been destroyed this year. Brian did however eventually finish books after Frank's original 6 that seemingly finishes the saga that had been planned, but I feel like there's a bit of handwaviness about how much of that arc was Frank, and how much was moreso Brian/Kevin
For the Rings of Power, Amazon didn't get the rights to use Gandalf's name or any of the other wizards names as well. Honestly they got a bad deal deal with Tolkien folks - for the money, what they could and could not use. i consider the Amazon series like a "What if . ." version of the Middle Earth stories. Just wish they would let someone do a series based on the years of the trees and First Age. That would be epic!
and also that would be the ACTUAL Silmarillion. Everyone talks about "no one knows the Silmarillion" in relation to the Rings of Power. It's obvious that no one DOES know the Silmarillion by bringing this up because the it barely touches on the Second Age. Most of what we know of the Second Age from Tolkein is based on songs the characters sing in the Lord of the Rings and the Appendices of the Lord of the Rings. And maybe there are some other notes here and there (I'm not a Tolkein scholar). I'm not sure why I care so much, but every time I hear about people refer to the Silmarillion when talking about the Rings of Power series, it annoys me.
Megalopolis is inspired by the B&W German film Metropolis, as well as Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. But it is not based on, or a remake of, that film/book. The trailer for Orphan Black: Echoes really confused me. I thought that the series already released last year and was cancelled. Turns out the series aired in Australia in 2023 but the North American release was pushed back till now.
LOL😂😂😂I am Uber intrigued by Megalopolis. It's FFC for crying out aloud, and I love how confusing the trailer is making people. I'm looking forward to going in, not knowing what the heck to expect. The fact that it's not part of some existing IP is a huge plus in my eyes. Films may have satisfied me to some extent over the past 10 years or so, but nothing has truly surprised me in ages
Francis Dord Coppola originally came up with the idea in 1977. It is his passion project. People will love it, or hate it. But people will watch it, and debate why they feel/think the way they do about it. Thaymt is a huge part of the project that makes it a complete work of art.

6:35: this tickles me so much.
MY face was like Adam’s going into the trailer…and I was TOTALLY Jay by the end.😀👍
And…I haven’t seen the musical. Honestly, I knew close to nothing about it. Now, I’m really looking forward to it.
The trailer for Orphan Black: Echoes really confused me. I thought that the series already released last year and was cancelled. Turns out the series aired in Australia in 2023 but the North American release was pushed back till now.
Youre not gonna gaslight me into thinking GOT season 6 was bad. It was amazing!
It was a great comedic choice. I couldn't stop laughing at Adam's expressionless face while Jay lost his mind over the Wicked trailer. :)
Adam's face after trailer 1 is comedy gold!
24:00 Spat my drink out. WTF Lashy. Came outta nowhere with that one. 😂
Francis Dord Coppola originally came up with the idea in 1977. It is his passion project. People will love it, or hate it. But people will watch it, and debate why they feel/think the way they do about it. Thaymt is a huge part of the project that makes it a complete work of art.
